Each time I've stopped in here the lattes I get are so fresh and revitalizing, it just makes life better. I've yet to get ice cream or anything like when I go to Blue Deer, but about the half time I stop by there's usually a small line which goes to show how good the quality is in general. It's very much a hole-in-the wall, especially with Blowing Rock being a very small town, but it's quaint and friendly, and it feels good to support a local business. The nice thing as well is that it's basically at the end of Main, so you can get your coffee and walk the entire drag exploring the shops. Whenever I'm in the area I love stopping in here and I'll definitely be doing so for a while :) read more

Nothing better on a hot day Came here after a long day of hiking and it hit the spot. Got the ice cream sandwich, chocolate chip and strawberry shortcake, with vanilla in the middle. Cookie was soft and chewy. Ice cream was not too sweet. The strawberry shortcake cookie brought a nice complementary twist. I was looking for a place to sit down and have a cup of coffee and a snack. Finally found a place that had seating, two tables with chairs and a window bar table with stools. They also have ice cream and cookies, but it is a bit cold in February for ice cream so I opted for a double chocolate cookie. It was very good but very small, see the photo. read more

My ice cream sandwich was delish! Their shop was super cute with merch to go with. And the customer service was great, with prompt delivery of my "custom" sandwich. Highly recommend! Plus, they were the only local dessert place open on a Friday night outside of Kilwins (which IMO, you can get anywhere). Love supporting local! read more

Phenomenal ice cream cookie sandwich! They let you design your own!! I chose a chocolate chip cookie, peanut butter cookie and chocolate ice cream. It was delicious!! The cookies held up and held the chocolate ice cream. I like the overall flavors. The service was awesome and they helped me find out how the cookies' sandwich magic was made. Came in on a rainy day to get something to warm us up. For the price, the coffee tasted watered down and the cookies (both texture and flavor-wise) felt store-bought. There was no bathroom, no free Wi-Fi that we could tell, and no water unless you purchased a bottle. Because of these things it seems like a place they want you in and out of quickly rather than sitting and enjoying your food and drinks. read more

Evening sip coffee in the local place, honey bear lavender very creamy and smooth, blue ridge mocha and passion lemonade all three combined gives warm and comforting, they also have ice cream cookies available, original with cookies and cream ice cream make your treat into next level. Had 1 espresso and 1 coffee (dark roast blend). Although 'had' isn't actually right, because they were both undrinkable. The espresso was burnt, and we know what decent as well as really good espresso is supposed to taste like. The coffee was also tossed out. On the positive side, the oatmeal cookie was delicious! I visited with my two kids and ordered a vanilla milkshake, chocolate ice cream and several cookies. The cookies were good and didn't taste "store bought" as others suggested. I suspect the cookie ice cream sandwich is the star of the menu. The ice cream was very creamy but not that sweet, which is a matter of personal preference but my son didn't like it. Went by yesterday while on vacation, and this place is amazing! I'm not a coffee person, my girlfriend is though and she loved what she got! I usually only get a form of tea when I'm places like this, so they made me a chai tea latte, and it was one of the best I've ever had! Not to mention the staff was excellent, friendly, and so polite! Nice quiet little spot, we had my dog with us, so this was a great place to warm up (it was 26° outside...) and they had a pup cup that my German Shepard loved! Will absolutely be back the next time we are out that way! read more

Oh, my, this place is phenomenal! We had a similar food truck near us that recently closed, and I really missed their homemade cookie/ice cream sandwiches. Blue Deer recently opened this storefront connected to Mellow Mushroom and The Bee and the Boxwood. The website didn't have the current cookie/ice cream combinations posted, but we did find other great options to try. We visited twice during our weekend visit, it was that good! I ordered an iced matcha green tea latte with oat milk. I watched the barista pour from a carton of Teavana green tea latte and pour a bunch of oat milk on top of it. The Teavana green tea latte carton, which I can buy at stores, is already pre-made! So by adding oat milk, I received a super-watered-down white latte with no noticeable matcha. I like that they are open so late and the staff were friendly. The chocolate chip cookie was not very good. Mine was raw. Funny they couldn't tell. I got an extra shot in my Americano and it still tasted weak and tasted more like a low quality cup of coffee than an americano. Not someplace I'd return to. read more

Best ice cream ever. Whatever you're doing - stop doing it and go here to get some ice cream. We had the cookies and cream ice cream, and an ice cream sandwich with the chocolate chip cookie and macadamia nut white chocolate chip cookie. All I can say is WOW. Often ice cream sandwiches with cookies are dry/hard/mediocre and none of those words can be used to describe the soft, chewy, yet crunchy-edged cookies that I had tonight. I'm a cookie snob and my husband has an ice cream problem and we were both left wanting more. I also tried a sample of the lemon crunch ice cream and will for sure be back tomorrow to get a scoop of that. Will try not to devour it before a picture is taken so I can add it to the review. TLDR; go get this delicious ice cream - you won't regret it. PS - the staff was awesome and friendly. read more

We opened Blue Deer Cookies in May of 2018 with the hope of bringing something new and exciting to the areas of Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Not only did we want to offer a new and awesome dessert option, but we also wanted to offer customers an experience unlike any other in the area. Our historic, yet newly restored, location can be found in the heart of main street Blowing Rock right next to mellow mushroom! Our menu consists of a revolving array of delicious homemade cookies along with Homeland Creamery ice cream from Julian, NC. Each of our cookies are baked fresh daily, and can be enjoyed with a glass of cold milk or lemonade!

Where to start my review of this truly horrible luncheon experience. In a town that is geared…read moretowards tourists (I'm a resident), and where one restaurant tries to outdo the other, this restaurant is sorely lacking, in everything from wait staff to food. What they do have is a lot of different types of beer. So I guess if you just want a beer with tasteless food then this is the place to go. My friend and I had lunch at around 12 noon. There were literally only four other tables with a few people. Our waiter came to take our order and basically gave the impression that he wishes he was anywhere other than in this restaurant working. Not even a smile or a hello how are you doing? He was truly uncaring and answered us in half syllables when we had questions about the menu. OK whatever -/so we ordered a burger and the turkey Gruyère sandwich. At $19 for a burger (most other places in Blowing Rock charge around 12) and another 19 for a turkey sandwich you would expect at least french fries or coleslaw as a side. The sides are potato chips ( how cheap can you get) or green beans?????? if you want anything else like a side salad or fruit you have to pay an additional five dollars. Literally every other restaurant in town that serves sandwiches or burgers gives you a choice of several sides that come with the meal . But here a hamburger with a side of fruit was $23. Our waiter never came back to check on us, but another waitress did come a couple times and filled my tea glass with ice and asked us how everything was and brought samples of the beer. Thank you to whoever that was. Wish you could have been our waitress. Because our waiter was so unconcerned about waiting on us that he apparently forgot we were there. After a half an hour of not receiving our food in a restaurant that was mostly empty, I flagged him down and asked him what happened to our food. He said he would go and check on it. He came back and said that ours was the next ticket up.!! so basically this waiter held onto our ticket and then got reminded that he had to actually put it in for us to get our food. So we waited another 10 minutes. The burger was so tiny you practically needed a magnifying glass to see it. Burned to a crisp because of course the waiter also forgot to ask how we wanted it cooked. We like it medium rare, and definitely not charred and well done. The Turkey sandwich with Gruyère was just some turkey slices and I'm assuming gruyere cheese which I couldn't really taste. The whole sandwich was definitely forgettable. So that's my review. I still gave the waiter 10% tip, which he did not deserve. He did not deserve a tip at all. Needless to say, will never be back at this restaurant again. Nor will I ever recommend it. Because lunch for almost $60 for two people with two disgusting sandwiches was obscene.

We also shared a premade salad, which was okay. It could have used something extra, maybe croutons, nuts, or a little more cheese, but their ranch dressing was excellent. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because the warmed up items were still a tad bit cold inside. This is the second time we've been here, and had a similar experience the first round. With proper heating time, these would have been top notch and 5 star all around. We'll be back for more bakery goodness for sure. We'll politely ask that the items get heated through next time just in case.

He is an owner and a Marine Veteran. We had some good laughs and I learned a lot about Banner Elk and the surrounding area. After visiting Fred and Larry's Coffee the first time, I realized I wanted to make exploring local coffee shops a part of my life; and here I am almost 500 coffee shops later.
