Camp Coffee Roasters has a cozy vibe and an obvious appreciation for the outdoors. It might have something to do with their neighbors; Footloggers, an outdoor store. Be sure to climb the stairs near the front door of the coffee shop. They lead to a loft, overlooking Footloggers, where you can relax in a wing back chair or get some work done at a table near a window. The barista was friendly and made a respectable cortado. This time, however, my mom and I were extremely disappointed. We were served by a young man who seemed to be the owner's son, while the owner and another young man stood behind the counter. He forgot to ask what sizes we wanted, and when I got my Campfire Cold Brew, it came without cream. The menu clearly said: Cold brew, marshmallow, Hershey chocolate, and cream. I thought maybe it wasn't my drink, but the young man confirmed it was. When I asked if it was supposed to have cream, he said no, but that he could add some. I double-checked the menu: "It says it comes with cream." That's when an older woman suddenly appeared, glaring. "There's cream right there," she snapped. I'm guessing she was his mom, given her signature mama bear energy. Sorry, lady! I was just trying to make sure I got what I paid for, especially since two small coffees cost $16. I've yet to get ice cream or anything like when I go to Blue Deer, but about the half time I stop by there's usually a small line which goes to show how good the quality is in general. It's very much a hole-in-the wall, especially with Blowing Rock being a very small town, but it's quaint and friendly, and it feels good to support a local business. The nice thing as well is that it's basically at the end of Main, so you can get your coffee and walk the entire drag exploring the shops. Whenever I'm in the area I love stopping in here and I'll definitely be doing so for a while :)

It took us 45 minutes to find a parking spot. I arrived at 1 in the afternoon with 2 hangry teenagers. One restaurant claimed a 1.5 hour wait and another 2 hours! Luckily the girls had spied some vintage clothing outside of a little Cafe. So back down the street we trudged. What a gem!! No crowd, our turkey and veggie burgers were cooked to our liking in minutes. Bonus-- each girl scored a lovely vintage piece of clothing that had them grinning from ear to ear. Beware, this is neither fancy nor anything close to gourmet. But in a pinch, it suited us wonderfully. You could NOT meet any nicer folks than Dean and Shanaat! Hugs all around when we left.

Social on Main is an easy walking distance if you are staying downtown. You may need to hunt for a downtown parking spot if driving, however. There are plenty of parking spots on the nearby side streets, and a large public lot (slightly hidden) off Maple Street. Don't let the lack of onsite parking deter you from a visit! We've tried the Charlie Sellers, Beth Ann Clark (new and amazing!), The Hammy, Butch Triplett, and Carl Freeman. One thing for sure is that SoM knows how to do cheesy scrambled eggs. I constantly lament that other breakfast places don't know how to properly cook scrambled eggs, and allow sufficient time for the cheese to melt. SoM's eggs are always perfect. They also do a proper crispy bacon. Their biscuits are "cat head" style--i.e., as big as a cat's head--and fluffy, and really good with butter. The Beth Ann Clark is their newest addition, with cheesy scrambled eggs, bacon or country ham, french toast, and a cup of fruit. I actually got this twice on our last trip to Blowing Rock--it was that good! But fried egg fans should also be glad that SoM also does perfect eggs over-medium. And their corned beef is perfectly crispy. I don't normally like corned beef, but it goes perfectly with their cheesy scrambled egg when my husband orders the Butch Triplett. Their hash browns are crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. We prefer them a bit crispier throughout, but they were still fine. Their coffee is noteworthy--strong and delicious. Many breakfast places serve weak coffee, but Social's version is perfect. Their servers are all efficient and friendly. One of our servers shared the story of how their plates were all named after Blowing Rock individuals, and that was really cool. One more thing - SoM accepts Apple Pay! This is definitely our go-to for breakfast in Blowing Rock.

They also have a full bar including breakfast martinis - which I did not opt for but went with a bloody mary instead. It was huge and delicious. They have a lot of breakfast options, but when I saw corn beef hash I knew I had to try that. They have a bunch of different breakfast options and the one I ordered came with eggs, ham, hash browns and I can't remember what else but it was huge. If breakfast isn't your thing and you want lunch - you can choose from their lunch specials which are a main and three sides for under $14 - wowza that is literally crazy! It is a cozy, charming spot with friendly service and I would definitely recommend if you are in Blowing Rock.
