Excellent breakfast. Two of us had omelettes plus toast (of course). Many breakfast sides to choose from. They have a machine squeezing fresh OJ, so we had to try that. Everything served was hot and fresh. Interesting approach to service here. A sign at the entrance said "We practice team service. Every server is your server." It worked very well. read more

We had two servers during our visit--one of them was excellent. He was polite, attentive, and handled everything professionally, even picking up the slack when needed. Unfortunately, the other server created a very uncomfortable atmosphere. She appeared overwhelmed and was loudly expressing frustration, yelling toward the kitchen, and complaining about customers within earshot of the guests. At times, she seemed disengaged, pacing around without helping while our server took on most of the work. Later, she sat at the bar on her phone with her feet up, which didn't come across as very professional. The food itself was good, and we really appreciated the service from the server who took care of us. However, the behavior of the other staff member definitely impacted the overall experience. read more

The food was great - but very bad experiences and vibes in both bathrooms. The womans room has a dangerous sharp metal shelving unit in between the sink and the trash can that is too easy to hit your head on and I did and its an evil vibe of flow that made the restaurant a piece of trash. The mena room has a urinal directly next to the seared toilet so you inhale piss if you sit on toilet never to it. What a horrible bathroom situation for all genders. My wife and I ate here twice on our weekend jaunt to Blowing Rock, it's our go-to breakfast joint when we come to town. The food is always on point and the service is usually good. They team serve at this restaurant, which usually means each server is looking over all the tables and asking each table if they need anything if they're walking by. Sometimes you'll have multiple people asking within minutes of each other. You should rarely ever feel neglected. Saturday was great, just as team serve should work, but Sunday was horrible. Team serve works in low to moderate amounts of customers at this restaurant, but if you have a full house it falls apart like on Sunday. We felt neglected all over the place, I feel like I had to ask for everything, hardly anybody gave us the time of day. We still love the place and will still go when we're in town, we just won't go during busy hours. read more

I placed an order for pick up & Website said it would be ready @ 10:09 I arrived 5 minutes after this. I was immediately told it would be a longer wait and seemed to upset the staff member when I requested they check and give me an eta since I had left work to pick it up. Employee returned with my order and said they missed it the first time. Despite arriving 5 minutes after my order was meant to be ready, the food was ice cold when I sat down to eat it. It had to have been sitting in the kitchen for at least 10-15minutes prior to !0:09 when it was meant to be ready for pickup. Also I was so shocked at being told my order wasn't ready and I'd just have to wait that I didn't realize until I returned to work that I had not been given the $4 unsweetened tea that I had already paid for and despite multiple calls I couldn't reach anyone to request that it just be refunded to my card. I ended up having to leave work for a second time to go back and retrieve the tea that I had already been charged for. The size of the tea I was charged $4 for was Laughable. It looked like a kids cup, definitely not a $4 drink. Hilarious interaction when trying to have brunch with my family. 5 empty tables inside. 3 outside. Empty bar seats. Almost half the restaurant empty but staff unable seat us for 45 mins. It's breakfast, I've worked kitchens, the easiest to turn out. Too much for today. God help us in these times of adversity. I wouldn't want to be an owner these days and deal with work staff. Stopped here to have breakfast, because due to Helene we have no power in our house, and had to check into a motel in blowing rock, and discovered this place a short walk from our motel. My waitress was very friendly and took my order right away. I have to say that the corn beef hash I had with two eggs on top was literally the best I've ever had in my life. The eggs were cooked to perfection. When they say fresh squeezed orange juice that's exactly what they mean. This is my favorite place to eat in all of Blowing Rock. Every time we come here the food is spot on. I usually go for the french toast filled with strawberries and cream cheese but this time went for the build your own omelette. I got mine with chorizo and it was so delicious and their bacon is to die for. My friends and I also split a mimosa flight which was refreshing and yummy. We got peach, mango, classic and wild beery. The peach mimosa was definitely my favorite as it was sweet and light. I will definitely be returning because this place is the best breakfast place we know. read more

They then had the audacity to ask how our food was when they didn't give us silverware. Once we got the silverware it was dirty my friend went through four forks before finally getting a clean one. I felt sad for this little cafe, having to close off half of it's restaurant because they cannot find enough help to run at full capacity. With that said, our seating was immediately attended to by the manager and the one experienced waiter attended to our order and needs while training a new waitstaff person. They were efficient and cool, even under the pressure. I decided to order the "Famous Hash" since it was my first visit here and after all is was "famous." Duh! This is described as "a blend of our house-made corned beef and shredded potatoes. Topped with two eggs any style and house-made Hollandaise with a side of toast." Sounds really good. Except the hash was much more potato than corned beef and the Hollandaise sauce was excessive. Would you like some hash with your bowl of Hollandaise sauce? Except it wasn't in a bowl. But it was good. I just moved much of the excess to the side and carried on. The dish would have been outstanding if the ratio of corned beef was higher than to the potato's so that there was a meatier chew/flavor and back off a bit on the sauce. However, the atmosphere and attitudes of the employee's under a stressful duress was pleasant and outstanding. For that, I will not ding them a star over the food. I am leaving this review because there is an employee here that absolutely should not have a job in customer service. When I walked in to dine it was not busy, only five tables occupied. I waited to be seated...and waited, and waited. There was an employee sweeping the floors and he was very obviously ignoring anyone that happened to walk in. He finally seated a party of three who had been there before me and then went right back to sweeping the floors! I stood there over five minutes without him acknowledging me, and then I finally got tired of it and approached him and asked if I was invisible and then explained I'd been clearly standing there over five minutes. He acted completely clueless and asked for my name which was beyond confusing because they clearly were not busy whatsoever AND as far as I know they don't even take reservations. It was like he briefly was looking for a reason to not seat me or something, because my name wasn't on some imaginary list. Another group of four ladies approached him immediately after I was seated and I heard them say that they had been waiting for twenty minutes for him to seat them and again he acted clueless and like he just hadn't noticed them. He then insulted them by saying they couldn't sit down at all until he finished sweeping the floors and told them they had to remain standing even though plenty of tables were open. They were so offended and offput by his comments that they left. I now understood why the other places in Blowing Rock were jam packed with people but almost no one was at Famous Toastery...because this employee is ignoring and offending people to the point that they'd rather leave. My waitress Kayla actually did her job. I saw another table ask the rude employee for napkins but he never brought them...there was no excuse for this because as previously mentioned the place wasn't busy whatsoever so how could he forget them? They then asked Kayla for napkins and she brought some right away. I also saw another customer just walk up to the employee at the bar to try to pay his bill, because the employee never returned to their table to pick up payment. As for the food, it was fine. I had the chicken bacon wrap and chips. For some reason it took 30 minutes to come out and tasted no better than something I could have made at home. I also want to mention that the menu prices are NOT accurate, another table complained that certain items on their bill were higher than what was listed on the menu. The waitress Kayla explained that they set their own pricing because they are a franchise and can do that? She made no offer to adjust the bill to the advertised menu prices. What a horrible and shady business practice. Also beware ordering the iced tea...it cost $4! For freaking iced tea! Anyways, this rude employee was a tall guy with light brown hair and a nose ring. I hope the manager reads this, they need to know that he is blatantly ignoring those that are waiting to be seated and is being so rude that he's causing customers to just leave. He only wanted to pay attention to sweeping the floor and using his phone to change the music in the restaurant. We decided to give this place a try this morning. I'm glad we did. Our food was pretty good. The menu options offered a diverse selection of breakfast item. I ordered the Cali Benedict. It was an English muffin topped with tomato, avocado, and poached egg as well as the usual hollandaise sauce. I chose a side of grits. The egg was slightly over cooked but the rest was perfect. The grits were perfectly seasoned. My daughter got the avocado omelette. I tried it and it was really good. The presentation was pretty. The service was friendly but odd. It appears that the entire staff of servers intermittently wait on each unassigned table. Hmm? The dining area looked very clean. The silverware was clean and wrapped in a cloth napkin. We have been to the Toastery many times over the last four years. It's always been a struggle with their service. They don't "assign" any one server. Just anyone who happens to seat you and initially takes your order. Food is delivered. Then you're on your own. No one has responsibility over your table so no one checks to see how the meal is. No one checks to refill your coffee or water. No one checks to see that you've had your credit card sitting on the table w the check for 15 minutes when you're ready to check out. When I finally was able to make eye contact w a service she made us feel like we were imposing. Don't understand this style of management and service. read more

Food was yummy and the waiters were very nice! I would say for the prices the portions are definitely smaller than I expected, but I didn't mind. I spent the summer in Europe and am now happy to have smaller or normal sized dishes, aka not a ton of extra I don't need but end up eating anyways haha.
