Morning Bun, Sticky Bun with Walnuts & Raisins, Maple Walnut Scone, Spinach Cheddar Scone
Onvara A.

Breakfast at Stick Boy Kitchen was a great deal - really tasty and affordable! We got a few things to eat there - a bacon & caramelized onion quiche which was a specialty that day, and the Classic Chicken Biscuit which is on their regular menu. The quiche was decent, but I didn't taste much of the caramelized onion in it which was a bummer. Classic Chicken Biscuit was very good! We also got some pastries to-go and for me the pastries are something you've really got to try. The Morning Bun, Sticky Bun with Walnuts and Raisins, Maple Walnut Scone, and Spinach Cheddar Scone were all incredible!

El Presidente

Grabbed lunch with a few friends here. Though the line was out the door, it moved quickly, and a staff member was out asking if anyone had questions or needed help, so by the time people reached the counter they were ready to order right away. I had the El Presidente with a fruit cup, and my friends had a couple other sandwiches and fries. My sandwich was okay. The fresh bread was delicious, but between the tomatoes, avocado, and aioli, it was a very wet sandwich and I wished the bread was toasted or a crustier variety than the sandwich slices used. The insides of the sandwich were also VERY cold. As in, the tomatoes felt like they had just come from the very back of a fridge, and hurt my teeth to bite into. The fries were very good and crispy. Fruit cup was great--everything in it was fresh and it had a nice mix of berries, orange, and pineapple. Not just cheap melon chunks!

Multigrain bagel with hummus

This is the cafe offshoot of a local bakery. It has a slightly confusing entrance that requires you to walk into a building and then take a side door. I found resplendent options, albeit a slightly unclear menu. I got a multigrain bagel with hummus seeking a hearty start to the day, and the toasted flavor was delicious and the bagel helpfully sliced. I got something indulgent for later, and the chocolate hazelnut pastry that I eventually gave in to was enough to make someone forget about Nutella. The beverage options looked quite good, and I didn't try one but ended up kind of wishing I had. Salads and sandwiches are available for lunch. The selection of baked good was slightly smaller than their dedicated bakery, but certainly enough to be worth perusing.

Four cheese quiche with fruit

Super cute little breakfast spot - ordering was easy and our food came fast. I ordered the four cheese quiche, and my partner ordered the pastrami bagel. The quiche was delicious! The crust was buttery and flaky, while the filling was rich and cheesy. The fruit on the side was also fresh. Would definitely come back to try other options as well as some of their coffee!

When I first sat down to write this, my gut said to give it three stars. Why? Well, I wasn't quite sure to be honest. As I parsed through my thoughts, I decided that in fact it was a four star place, but you need to have the right expectations. We stopped in for lunch, and Stick Boy Kitchen serves hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, quiche, and of course a large selection of Stick Boy Bakery pastries. They also serve a wide range of smoothies and coffee drinks. I would describe the ambience and offerings as more of a cafe than a restaurant, and that's where I think my own expectations were misaligned. All that said, we had a good meal with good service! Pros: 1.) Stick Boy baked goods. If you've not visited the bakery just down the road before, then you'll need to sample some of the pastries here. Get whatever looks good to you--it's all good! Pair it with some Hatchet coffee! 2.) Mains. The sandwiches we had were all quite good. Interesting takes on standard offerings, such as the Kluckin Kop, a twist on the usual grilled chicken sandwich. Their quiche was also excellent. 3.) Service. The service was quite prompt, and staff addressed any questions we had very quickly and comprehensively. Cons: 1.) Sides. I feel like this is a big miss at an otherwise great restaurant. The sides available with our sandwiches were bagged chips, cut fruit, hummus and carrots, or fries. All were okay, but to have such great mains with relatively uninspired sides was a bit of a let down. Overall, a nice spot for a leisurely lunch and coffee.

Food was good, service was good, ambiance was good, but can't say anything was overall great. I would definitely be back if somebody asked me to go, but just not my favorite spot. Definitely give this spot a try!

Twilight sparkling lemonade

This place was great! The highlight was the Hearty Arti sandwich- a warm sandwich with tempeh, Swiss cheese, artichokes, red pepper, and garlic aioli. It was so savory and satisfying! The twilight sparking lemonade (featuring hibiscus and pea flower) was special and delicious on a hot day. The cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting was really a notch above what you usually get other places. The decor was beautiful with plants and pretty art. My dining companion got the chickpea sandwich and she loved it! The staff were friendly, even if they did have a little confusion with our orders. Would definitely stop back in the next time I'm in Boone!

Two Specialty Lattes - 12 oz

Easy fast service. We wanted to go to the place that was recommended based on the fact that that fine dining restaurant sourced their desserts from Stick Boy bakery. The breakfast did not disappoint, well seasoned and flavorful meal. They even had the Hatchet coffee beans here for our coffees, which was fun.

#Pastrami

Great pre-hike meal! I came here before hiking nearby and had a good pastrami breakfast sandwich, chocolate biscotti, and turtle latte. I arrived around 2pm and there was still a line out the door, but it moved fast and I had placed an order within 15 mins. I wanted to sit outside but someone moved my water bottle that I left on the table while I went to use the restroom. I ended up inside but it was nice there too. Overall, it's a cute, quaint spot. Friendly service, and everything was pretty tasty. My sandwich came on a bagel - I don't know why I was expecting toast or an English muffin...I guess I would have preferred the option to choose, but it was still tasty, so were my latte and biscotti - perfect fuel for my hike! I would recommend this to anyone passing through Boone.

No evil seed oils!
Vince M.

This is a delightful little bakery. On our first visit, we loved the banana-walnut bread. Other than being delicious, my wife pointed out that the ingredients included coconut oil rather than any of those vile, evil seed oils. Atmosphere is quaint and service is friendly and attentive. We hope to return.

Bakery that sits just off the road. . Fresh bread and baked goods. Friendly staff, not aware of the Yelp promo of 50% off for smoothies and coffee, but they honored it when it was presented.

Quick service after you stand in a fast moving line. The restaurant is small and clean, modern looking and has fabulous outdoor space for overlooking a parking lot. Lots of plants! Dogs are welcome outside. The bread is greasy and makes the meal. Everything we had was great: Harvest Salad, French Dip, El President, and whistle stop. Super sweet Sticky buns were taken to go.

Custom built smoothie! Yogurt, peach, mango, spinach

Post hike chill and refuel---- we love stick boy! This location has tons of indoor and outdoor seating options- fresh bread and bakery options on top of delicious lunch and breakfast items to choose from- healthy and eco conscious place!

Cupcrazed - Carrot cake

Cupcrazed

I have mixed feelings about this place…read more We stumbled upon this place while walking down sides streets, after having a not so great breakfast elsewhere. It looked really cute and funky and I was looking to get a coffee to go. I noticed a small building that looked like a bakery and indeed had bakery goods and cupcakes inside. I went in, hoping to get a coffee and a cupcake. There was someone working behind the counter but she never looked up or said a thing to me. I thought maybe I shouldn't have been there, so I left. We went inside the building and finally someone asked if they could help us and they did go get me a coffee. We noticed there was a bar inside the larger building and my husband started chatting up the woman there (who I'm 99% sure was the owner) but she was super bitchy and not having any part of the conversation. That was enough for me (you don't me around? fine, I'll stay away) but for some reason my husband really found that bar charming and a few days later we went back. Luckily for us, Patrick was bartending that night! He was super friendly, and we spent the evening chatting with him. The drinks were good, and we did order dinner that we both enjoyed. He really made the night a fun one. If I was back in the area, we'd probably stop back in, and hope Patrick was working!

Like others have mentioned, the woman who answered was very rude and with an attitude. This was the conversation: "hi, is this the cupcrazed cafe in blowing rock?" "how can I help you" "what are your hours today?" "we're not open" "so are you guys permanently closed?" "We're not open" "okay, what time do you guys open?" "we're not open this weekend" "okay bye bye". For whatever reason, they don't want customers, and they don't want people to know when they're open. Wild if people think they can run a restaurant that way. You couldn't pay me to go there now

This pastry business is located in a tiny cottage, think She Shed, on a small side street in downtown Blowing Rock. Everything was nicely labeled and priced but there were names I hadn't heard before. Julie was very informative and kindly answered all of our, "Ooooh, what's that?" questions. We were torn between a couple of items, so like any sensible person, we bought both. She told us to eat them at room temperature for best enjoyment. She said the "Crème" is homemade puff pastry with a thick layer of Mousseline Cream. That means they take their crème patisserie and then add silky butter. Is your mouth watering yet? We each got a Crème and a Cream Puff. We ate the Crème first and sweet mother of all things delicious, it was otherworldly. We immediately prayed that the Puff would have the same filling. It did. When we go back next year, I'll be getting a treat for everyday we are there. TIP #1: Beware Donna. She was in the next store Serves You Right. She offered to take our pink pastry box. Everyone in BR is so nice, we thought she was being helpful so we could shop. Then we saw the humorous glint in her eyes! Pastry Thief! LOL! Donna and Karen told us that Julie is the daughter and her mother is from Germany. The mom makes everything in Hickory and they drive it up fresh every day. They raved about everything! TIP #2: They are closed every Wednesday, so plan ahead.

It wasn't the best macaron I've ever had, but it was certainly the biggest haha. Service was fast & friendly; ambiance isn't really applicable, Flavia's itself doesn't have seating. Street parking is free in Blowing Rock, I believe. 7.5/10 would recommend!

At the recommendation of one of the knowledgeable baristas, I ordered the maple cardamom latte, and it absolutely delivered. The maple brought a warm, natural sweetness, while the cardamom added a subtle aromatic spice that made the whole drink feel layered and intentional. It was comforting without being heavy. That paired perfectly with a cinnamon orange white chocolate scone -- bright citrus notes, gentle spice, and just enough sweetness from the white chocolate to tie it all together. The flavors played off the latte beautifully. I finished with an amaretto latte, which was strong on the nose with that classic almond aroma, yet surprisingly smooth and easy on the palate. Bold but balanced -- a great way to end the visit. Great coffee, thoughtful flavor combinations, and baristas who know their craft. Espresso News is absolutely worth a stop when you're in Boone.
