We live in our motorhome and travel the country while still working! To help break up our day and to get a flavor for the local communities we visit, we will typically find a local coffee shop and work out of there in the morning! Today was Camp Coffee! The shop itself had a wonderful feel from the time you stepped in the door. We were greeted by Solomon, who we could tell was smiling, even through his mask! He was so helpful as we tried to decide what beverage to order. He gave us a sample of the cold brew and that sealed the deal! We set up camp (see what I did there?) and started to work! The coffee was just perfect and what you expect a delicious cold brew should be! The music selection was fantastic and apparently Solomon thought so too! We could hear him singing as he went about his work. I can't tell you how many times Michelle commented, "I really like it here!" as she worked. It was the perfect start to our day and we highly recommend you starting your day this way too! Solomon and their delicious coffee will put a smile on your face for sure! :) Update: Second morning at the Camp. We were able to meet Alana! She's equally amazing but doesn't sing. But she does a fun trick with her arms... if you are lucky, she will show you! :) #CampRoast #WeAreRoamingRoyals

The atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, with a modern meets classic charm that sets the tone for a thoughtful dining experience. I had my eye on the shrimp gnocchi, which several reviewers rave about, but unfortunately it was unavailable that day. We started with side Caesars which was fresh and crisp, though fairly standard. I ordered the Jadore Chicken Garden Salad and asked if I could substitute grilled chicken for crispy, but was told no. Oddly, when the salad arrived, it had grilled chicken after all. It was good, just not particularly memorable. My husband had the steak and eggs, which he said were cooked perfectly. Again, solid execution, but nothing that stood out. That said, the overall quality of the main courses was very good. Looking over the dinner menu, we are eager to come back in the evening. The real magic happened at dessert. We overheard a staff member mention that one of the women behind the counter makes many of the desserts herself, and she may be from Italy. Our server couldn't stop praising her crème brûlée and key lime tart, so we had to try both. The crème brûlée was smooth and flavorful, though a bit softer than I prefer. But the key lime tart? Absolutely phenomenal. My husband, a Tampa native and self-proclaimed key lime aficionado, broke his keto diet for it--and declared it one of the best he's ever had. I don't usually like key lime, but even I was impressed. Tangy, creamy, and perfectly balanced--it's a must-try if you're anywhere near Hudson. Service was friendly, and while there were a few small hiccups, the warmth and pride the staff take in their food really shines through. We'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu, and to get another slice of that unforgettable tart.

Our table setup included two chairs and a couch. While comfortable, the couch sat noticeably lower than the tabletop, making it a bit awkward for dining. This was the only minor knock during our visit. Service, however, was outstanding. Our server, Austin, was kind, engaging, and genuinely attentive to our needs. The pacing was spot-on and the hospitality felt effortless and warm. Now for the food. We ordered the Farm Burger featuring Kobe beef, an over-easy egg, bourbon pork belly, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions, and baby mixed greens. It arrived beautifully plated and cooked exactly as ordered. We upgraded to the truffle fries, which were absolutely worth it. Crispy, flavorful, and indulgent without being over the top. We also enjoyed the seasonal roasted beet salad, a refreshing and well-balanced dish with strawberries, roasted candied pecans, and a variety of beets that played together nicely in both flavor and texture. Pricing felt appropriate for the quality of ingredients, thoughtful plating, and excellent flavors coming out of the kitchen. All in all, a fantastic experience with just a small seating hiccup keeping it from a full five stars. A return visit is definitely planned.

I opted for the latter given time constraints, which led me to search out a bakery. Lo and behold, the first resulted in Karen's Cakes & Cafe Pharr. I perused the site late Friday night (9/1), impressed by what I had seen of the photos, which was an obvious display of someone with great cake design talents. I couldn't believe my luck at this being the first result and exhaustion led me to retire for the night. I awakened Saturday (9/2) morning and resumed my task by reading the reviews which ultimately led to a phone call. It was not a regular business day, but as luck would have it, I got to speaking with Karen herself; the first call was an inquiry to find out about placing orders. Karen informed me of what I can order and the call ended thereafter. I gave it some thought and called back a second time; this time placing my order for cinnamon rolls, which Karen stated, "everyone loves". The time arrived for pickup and I got the opportunity to be warmly greeted by Karen, her husband Mike, and my order. I absolutely loved our exchange of conversation. To my surprise, Karen had included a couple of treats; a slice of her iced blueberry lemon cake, a slice of red velvet cheesecake AND extras that were totally unexpected and only found out when we got home. Thank you!! Thank you!! At this point, I couldn't wait to get home and when I did, my daughter, who had accompanied me on the trip, opened up the containers with the cake slices and we dug right into our treats and let me tell you, they were mouth watering and deliciously flavorful AND we didn't stop there; we knew we had to sample the cinnamon rolls and Karen, you weren't kidding about those rolls. They were absolutely and delightfully soft with just the right amount of sweet. It was not long before we decided that this is where I would be ordering my birthday cake. I am now torn between the iced blueberry lemon and the coconut cream cake!! Though I think my daughter has already decided on the iced blueberry lemon. Overall, the reviews are exactly what I experienced; a delightful business owner who had charm and appeal, whose smile was infectiously warm and inviting, who knows her products, swears by her customers' satisfaction, and guarantees that you would love it AND love it we did!! These appear to be the characteristics that continue to make Karen's Cake & Cafe Pharr a successful business for over 30 years. Thank you Karen for the last minute accommodation given such short notice. It was a pleasure meeting you and getting the opportunity to experience your expertise!! See you in October!!
