We have been coming here since our first born went to college. They have moved to a new bigger and updated location. They now offer canned & bottled drinks as well as freshly made hot & cold specialty coffees. The main attraction is their soft delicious cookies. If you're getting a dozen then be prepared to wait 20 minutes.....it is so worth it! The cookies are made fresh in house and they come in various flavors. I don't know how a cookie company from Boone, NC made its way to this California girl's Instagram feed, but I ain't mad at it! Granted, I have been ordering cookies nationwide due to Covid. It was only time that Appalachia Cookie Co. would make its way to my heart... and stomach. I'm a huge fan of specialty flavors, so what particularly caught my attention was Appalachia Cookie Co.'s Valentine's Day sampler. It consisted of red velvet, pink champagne and red wine dark chocolate. I mean, come on... pink champagne and red wine dark chocolate cookies?! So unique! I also ordered the best sellers pack for good measure, which included their most popular items: chocolate chip, blueberry white chocolate, cheesecake, sugar, snickerdoodle and honey peanut butter. I also very much appreciated that Appalachia Cookie Co. has cookies for people with specific dietary restrictions. For example, they have a menu of keto, vegan and gluten-free cookies. No person left behind! I took advantage of their free shipping promo, so a dozen cookies came out to about $42 for me. I found that this was such a great deal based on my experience so far ordering from bakeries on the East Coast. I placed an order of the cookies on a Wednesday and received them on the following Wednesday. Unfortunately my cookies were delayed a day due to inclement weather, but the cookies were packaged well and none were damaged during transit. I will say, however, that I think it's possible that the cookies lost their freshness since some were harder than others... but then again, perhaps harder cookies are their thing? I have 1 dozen of cookies to methodically go through, but I can assure you that the cookies are tasty based on the 4 cookies I've tried so far. I had the cheesecake cookie first, and it was definitely the way to go to make a lasting first impression. I've had many cheesecake cookies, but Appalachia Cookie Co.'s was probably the most accurate representation of a cheesecake cookie I've ever had. It really embodied the taste and texture of cheesecake. I also really enjoyed the white chocolate blueberry cookie. It was sweet and fragrant, and I loved the surprise oatmeal that attributed to the texture. This cookie was hard though. These were both really soft and chewy, and I loved that both were loaded with white chocolate chips and chocolate chips respectively. I think they should consider changing their business model to at least have some (basic flavor?) cookies available when someone walks in who hasn't placed an order ahead and doesn't want to wait or have time to wait 20 minutes for their cookie order to be ready. Yes, their cookies are good but 20 minutes is a long time to wait for them. Some customers don't really care about made to order nearly as much as quick service and convenience. I totally get the whole made to order thing they're doing but the problem is that it leaves a bad first impression for first-time brand new customers who aren't aware that the common way to order from here is to order ahead. Returning customers may know to do this but new customers expect to walk into a cookie shop, grab some cookies, and go. Personally, I went here a few years ago when I was in town and really enjoyed their cookies. I don't go to Boone that much so I was really looking forward to visiting here. This was literally the only business I named by name that I wanted to stop by. Obviously, I completely forgot about the 20 min wait and unfortunately didn't have time to wait as we were really just stopping by Boone for a quick pitstop so I was really disappointed that I couldn't get my hands on any of their cookies. I actually don't know what to say about his place that would be helpful for anyone. I mean, it's damn good. Obviously. There's plenty of options. Prices are reasonable. It does take a while to get your order, but that's because they are baking the cookies... duh. I suggest simply calling in over the phone and stopping by 20 minutes later to pick up your order. Make sure you announce you are there, and if you've been waiting a while, remind them who you are (once I sat for like literally 40 minutes because my cookies were ready, and they forgot I was there). You can, of course, also order for delivery. Eating inside is not an option. There's a long bench built into the walls of the place for you to wait while you pick up your order, but it would probably be weird for you to simply sit there and eat. There are not any tables available. I find the cookies from this place to be a favorite for my out-of-town guests. I suggest trying a variety of cookie options; the ones that seem rather unique have turned out to become my personal favorites. Also, for you artists or those creatively-minded (or kids), ask for a cookie box that you can decorate and have hung up on the wall as their decor. read more

They should call it appalachia chowder co. My good friend mark and I went in this afternoon for some cookies. It's a classic day after a Boone monsoon kinda Saturday if you're catching my drift. We had just watched a movie, and were preparing to chow down on some delicious cookies before shopping for a new winter hat. I'd been dreaming of these cookies for weeks now. I finally found a spare moment and decided to spring for some sweet treats. Good experience starting out - nice fellow up front took my order, but perhaps could've been a bit more knowledgeable on pricing. I ordered the 4 "secret menu" cookies, which are actually no secret at all, as they frequently advertise them all over my Instagram feed, but I was a sucker and fell for it. I also ordered cheesecake and blueberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies to complete my half dozen. I was astounded to find out my cookies wouldn't be ready for 15-20 minutes, but alas, I wasn't angry because I knew they'd be fresh. After going for a walk with my friend steven who I mentioned prior, we came back to our cookies nice and ready. Ecstatic, we opened up the box outside and started chowing down. We began with the Cinnamon Toast Crunch looking cookie, but let me tell you, it was no cookie at all. This thing was a pile of goo, perhaps no more than halfway cooked through, and I'm being generous. Confused and bewildered, we continued. Next up was the s'more cookie, and my goodness, this thing was a thick pile of chocolatey, sticky, goopy, poopy, soupy, mushy, gushy, cookie dough chowder. This thing gave a whole new meaning to the word uncooked. Beaten down and morale dropping, we continued rummaging through this forest of cookie dough madness. We moved on to the pumpkin creme brûlée or whatever it was, along with the Reese's one. We were blessed to find the pumpkin one truly did resemble what I had envisioned when I had originally walked in. It was nicely cooked and delicious in flavor - a remarkable experience. The Reese's one however fell just in line with the first two. A sludge of near motor oil consistency with a hint of peanut butter chocolate flavor. Finally having persevered through the four secret menu cookies, we went on to the regular menu ones, the cheesecake and blueberry white chocolate oatmeal. We discovered both of these to be wonderful, coating my taste buds with that sweet cookie goodness I had been craving. Once we had tried all of the cookies, we went back in and asked if they were supposed to be so gooey, to find out that indeed they were. Disappointed, we left the store. Overall, this place really isn't that bad. We found that once the cookies sat out for about an hour, they firmed up nicely and were much more manageable. Just heed your expectations on the secret menu ones if you're going to try them out, we were extremely disappointed, especially when paying 5 dollars a cookie. read more

Updating my previous review. Very disappointed in the customer service last night. The employees were very distracted and loud while we were there. We placed our order and sat down to wait. Knowing that it takes a little bit for the cookies to bake, we weren't in a rush. We waited about 25 minutes for our cookies (we ordered 6). One of the employees brought out our box, said "sorry for the wait" and we left. When we got back to our hotel and opened the box, we noticed that our order was wrong. We're locals and have been supporting App Cookie Co since it's humble beginnings. We love it and are happy to support this shop, but before you go here, fair warning: ACC is very undependable. Cookie Cake examples: We've ordered cookie cakes from here with great results and break-my-kid's-heart results. This year, my son's birthday cookie cake was about half it's normal size. ACC's explanation? They were sent the wrong box size, whatever that means. (No, we didn't get a discount.) Also, we've shown up minutes before a party to pick up a cookie cake to be told that they didn't have a cake for us because they ran out of dough. (No, I didn't get a phone call or any notification, just a nasty surprise.) Taste examples: Most of the cookies, especially the Red Wine Dark Chocolate and their everyday Chocolate Chip are always divine. Sometimes the Ron Swanson is good and sometimes it's soggy. Sometimes the Honey Peanut Butter is good and sometimes it's dry-your-mouth-out tasteless. Feel free to roll the dice because the great cookies outweigh the so-so cookies 10 to two, but don't bank your ACC experience on one cookie. I'd advise you get a dozen to sample. :) Discount examples: Sometimes ACC gives random (i.e. student, BOGO, etc) discounts and sometimes the person behind the counter doesn't know what we're talking about. I've gotten to where I always awkwardly ask, so are you offering ANY discounts? My entire family highly recommends this place. As long as you're not in a hurry, can check your order before leaving, can deal with the occasional "off" cookie, and you're not counting on them to come through for you for an event, ACC is deliciously a-okay. read more
