While in NC I decided I needed some Carolina BBQ. Heard decent things about Holy Smokes so decided to give it a try on a Monday night. Got there about 6:00pm because they close at 7pm! We were the only ones in the restaurant besides the staff. Ordering is Fast Casual style. They have the usual suspects: Chopped Pork, Brisket, Pulled Pork & Sausages in sandwiches or plates with 2 sides. I got the 2 meat plate ($21) with sliced chunks of Brisket which was very good & the chopped pork which was also good. Wifey got the brisket as well and our 3rd wheel had the brisket burnt ends which she loved. My sides of Mac & cheese was excellent & the coleslaw was fine. Seating is both available indoors at picnic tables or outside as well. Overall a very pleasant experience and worth trying if you're in the area. read more

Wow! Such a beautiful view and very delicious food. They have a gift shop area and they sell fudge. Some of the stuff is Wizard of Oz because the Land of Oz attraction is close by. You order your food at the counter and choose your own seating. They have a ton of options but we had to go with the patio view which was stunning. Definitely gotta try the sauces! We even took a bottle home which they sell near where you place your order. The staff was very friendly and kind. I will 100% be back next time we visit. We really enjoyed our time! read more

We stopped by Holy Smokes BBQ during peak lunch on a very busy holiday Friday, so the line was no joke--about 30-40 minutes. That said, once we ordered, the food came out surprisingly fast (5-10 minutes), and they clearly had a solid system in place for how busy they were. It's an order-then-find-a-seat kind of spot. The $15.99 combo special is absolutely the move: a main/sandwich/hot dog, two sides, a drink, and a small piece of fudge. The sides are on the smaller side, but the sandwiches and hot dogs are generously sized, so it balances out. Plus, the fudge at the end is a nice little sweet touch. Plenty of BBQ sauce options that slapped, too. Food-wise, everything we had was really good--flavorful and satisfying. The only hiccup (and the reason for the 4 stars) was with a couple of items. My hot dog was supposed to come with nacho cheese sauce and caramelized onions (I even watched it get rung in), but it came out completely plain. The mozzarella sticks also came out cold, which was not great--especially when you're expecting a cheese pull. When I brought the items back, I was asked if I wanted the mozz sticks microwaved... which was a hard NO. I asked for them to be remade properly which is when an older woman--possibly a manager or owner-- stepped in and did offer to remake them but seemed visibly annoyed. I get your busy, but hey -- my order was wrong so you should probably address that before rushing to the next order. For the hotdog, I told her what was missing and instead of the nacho cheese sauce and caramelized onions that was supposed to come on it, I was handed cold shredded cheese and chopped raw red onions. The food still ended up tasting good, but the reaction to the mistake was disappointing. Overall, it's a solid BBQ spot with great value and good food. I'd recommend it and would go back, though I might try a few other places first. With better handling of small mistakes, this could easily be a 5-star experience. read more

Cozy shop and restaurant. The dining room has a nice view off the mountain and of the slopes. Counter service was great and they bring your order to the table. I got the bbq pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese and slaw. Being a SC girl I had to try the mustard based sauce. Overall everything was excellent. The barbecue had a good smoky flavor and the sauce was on point. The coleslaw wasn't too sweet and went well with the barbecue sandwich. Macaroni and cheese was chefs kiss. We ran in on a foggy Sunday to grab some cue and it does not disappoint! Had the 3 meats platter - sausage, shreadded pork & burnt ends. Soooo good. Green beans like grandma makes. Refreshing cole slaw ..... and the tooper u cannot leave without is hush puppies with some honey butter. We had plenty for 2 and bonus lunch leftovers next day. Yum yum yum. Canned green beans, potato salad which was run through a food mill and heavily seasoned, hush puppies were fabulous. Pulled pork lacked flavor and was super wet, our two orders of burned ends were just under cooked fatty bits! Service was quick and the atmosphere both inside and outside seating was ample. So as a business owner I tend let a lot slide. That said, a place called holy smokes needs to bring the flavor. While some things are 'good' to ok / I wasn't wow'd by flavor. I ordered the whole rack of ribs which came unsauced. The idea, I gather, was to add your own sauce (which there are many to choose from). This tends to make for a much dryer set of ribs and sadly this was the case. The sides are snack size to say the least, three bites maybe four. If I found any redemptive quality it was the hush puppies. Surely it wasn't the brisket which comes cubed or the heat lamp "smoked" ribs. The food is mediocre at best but for the mountain climate is likely your only choice. Worst part was the cleaning agent being used while we ate which smelled like a hospital floor. That smell is Not good while eating and should be a practice that is reviewed. Sorry guys but you can and should do better. read more

Really wanted to like this more. The folks in there are super friendly. Best thing we got was the pulled pork sandwich. Sauces were great too and tons of options. Other than that, Mac was good not great. Potato salad was way too creamy/mayo-like, couldn't even taste the potato. Green beans were canned. Pork belly chopped too small and kinda dry. Eat here for some great barbecue! I love the brisket, slow cooked to perfection. You must try their collard greens, as they are tender and tasty. Also, the mac & cheese is a good choice. What can I say about this place except it sucked. Ran out of food 2 hrs before closing so what they did have left was slop. The pulled chicken had no sauce to be served with and they ran out of sweet tea but let us order it anyway, so we could pay the Fontaine drink charge for Pepsi zero. The hush puppies tasted reheated and my wife's pulled chicken. A chow were Tostitos with some nacho cheese, dry chicken and a squirt of canned white queso. Nice little place to stop by for a bite. I felt like the BBQ was ok. I had the platter with three meats: brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. The brisket was a little drier than preferred, closer to the texture of ham. The pulled pork and chicken had a nice smoke to them, though the sauces helped out with a little bit of dryness there, too. The fudge was creamy and full of flavor! He offered us a cup of the Beef Brisket; smoked to perfection and full of juicy flavor!!!! Pretty classic BBQ food. The cashiers were nice and the place was relatively clean. My friends got all the BBQ they could manage, and I got a bunch of sides, all of which were totally fine. I'll probably go back again next time I'm in Beech Mountain, but that's in part because there aren't too many restaurants up there. read more

Brought the family to go skiing at Beech Mountain for the first time. I was unfamiliar with the area. I called in advance and they informed me that they only take orders ink person, but that three line was not too busy at present. Holy Smokes was very close and easy to find even in bad weather. Took about 15 min in line but food was ready quickly. Service was excellent and the food was really great, reasonably priced, and overall it was a very nice experience. The shop had lots of little nick nacks, things you might have forgotten like gloves and sleds, snacks, fudge, souvenirs, etc., while waiting for food. I would definitely come back here. The food at my elementary school was better. The food was pathetic. It was rubbery, no flavor and gross. The food was all barely heated and it was definitely not real bbq let alone cooked at all. I think it was just heated up. The Mac n cheese was barely heated, the brisket was awful, the burger had a hair in it and the sausage was just unpackaged and warmed up. The chili was cold and had a sweet like flavor. I don't know if there was even a grill or smoker at the restaurant. Of course it was over priced but I'm not even complaining about that. The tables were dirty and the staff was overwhelmed. If homestyle is considered microwaved warmed up food right out of the package then this is your place.
