Very friendly team, all were smiling (at 4:30 PM on Christmas Eve) and there was minimal wait time. We had a Hawaiian plus bacon to go, along with a giant cookie and a piece of cake. Yes, pricing is a bit on the higher side for a pizza, and the sauce, crust and cheese tasted like they were fresh and of quality - not your chain store pizza... plus the pineapple was super fresh on our Hawaiian. The customer service here has been really great. We are always greeted at the door and the service staff is very friendly and communicative. They have a little arcade, putt putt, coffee bar with ice cream, pizza and entire beer wall full bar for cocktails and we saw live piano on Thursday. Last night we ordered for take out a small (6 slices) Meaty Pizza which costed $32. The crust around the outer edge was so thick there was hardly any room for the toppings on the pizza. Anywhere else, I could get a large Meat Lovers pizza for $27. That would be 18-24 inches depending on the restaurant. We haven't been to Brick Oven in years and now we are reminded why. We were in Beech Mountain to spend our New Year and arrived this past Monday. It was very busy, but the line to order was steady. It was crowded and loud but everyone seemed to be having a nice time filling their bellies. Plastic ware was readily available which was convenient, as well as take out pizza boxes. We were able to find seating quickly while we waited. We're glad we decided to drive over and not call ahead for pick up since they seemed to pick up and hang up the phone everytime it rang. Not pizza dough. After many years, we gave this place a second chance. There will not be a third. Got into a discussion at the dog park on top of beech Mtn regarding the lack of good food on the mountain. A gentleman from Long Island insisted that Famous Brick Oven was legit pizza and could rival the best NY pie. I am not from NY but have spent time in the city and state. Based on this insistence, my partner and I decided to give it a go. (Short summary: dough sucks) We ordered two pies to pick up. One with spinach and veg, one pepperoni sausage and mushrooms. They were ready fast. Brick oven is supposed to be fast but we'll get to that in a second. Entering the restaurant, it was crowded. One line to order and one person handling everything. There were several people standing around but no one helping the girl doing it all. She was good but there's only so much one person can handle. I only had to wait ten minutes, which seemed quick for the line. My pizzas were ready and in a stack of about 15 other pies. In addition to that, there must have been another 15 pies waiting in the service window. Maybe less than 15 but it was a lot. This made me suspicious. My main suspicion was how consistent everything looked. I've eaten at a lot of brick oven pizzerias and the one constant is the inconsistency IYKYK. Burnt edges, bubbles, almost burnt pieces on the bottom; these are all normal and desired brick oven traits. Every pizza at this place looked exactly the same. Same doneness, same thickness, no bubbles, fancy folded crust; they all looked like they had been pre made and then run through a conveyor oven. I'm not saying that consistency is bad, but in this case it's a sign of either laziness, greediness, or bad taste. Let me say this to the owner if you are reading this. Your dough is terrible. It is not pizza dough, it's just bread dough. There is no chewiness, it was dense, and there was no flavor in the actual crust...Burnt garlic powder on the crust is not a good flavor. I would put this pizza on par with a good frozen pizza. Unfortunately at $60 for two "regular" size pies, it's worth it to run all the way down the Mtn. I'm actually ok with the price, given the location, but the quality needs to match. The only sizes available are "regular" and "large". read more

We spent a while at the sledding hill behind the pizzeria and decided to go for lunch. We had a group of 2 adults and 8 kids. Ordered two pizzas and then when they came realized we needed a third. My biggest complaint about the place is the size of the pizzas and the cost. The flavor was decent, nothing to write home about but not bad. We got 2 cheese and pepperoni split and one of the buffalo chicken pizza. The buffalo chicken might as well have just been a pizza with a bit of chicken, it honestly didn't taste like buffalo chicken. Definitely not worth the $31 I paid for the large! The other two were fine. Generally two pizzas feeds our whole group but the slices were small and the crust in the bottom is so thin it's not filling. We didn't get a thin crust pizza or something. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great! We came mid day and there were not a lot of people but I bet it's super cool in the evenings! The service was good, very kind people. It's a local haven for anyone who enjoys fresh pizza and the dough is fresh and amazing. It has a nice crunch and you get all the flavor from the meat! Being up on Beech Mountain, your food choices are VERY limited. From what I could tell from my 3 days there, the choices are Sandwiches, Mexican, Breakfast/Coffee, American/Bar/Brewery, Pizza, and Barbecue. To have something else, you must drive 10 minutes down the mountain for slightly more choices. But being a touristy mountain town, just know all the food is overpriced. The alternative is cooking wherever you're staying but who wants to do that on vacation? One of my daughter's favorite foods is pizza. It's quick, it's easy, and it hits the spot. Because our schedule was erratic because of skiing at Beech Mountain, we would eat either a late lunch or early dinner. A chunk of restaurants on the mountain don't open on that schedule and some even close early, so we ended up eating here twice. At peak times, this place is packed. We went at 7 PM on a Friday and we had to wait about 35 minutes to just put our order in. There's ample seating and a lot of people take their food to go, it's just waiting to get the food is what takes so long. The 2nd time we went for lunch at about 2:30 PM and it wasn't packed at all. Here's what I do know. If you like pizza, pasta, wings, or calzones, this is your place. If you like fresh, daily made desserts, this is your place. If you like beers, this is your place. For the pizzas, you can either build your own (which I would advise against because the individual toppings end up outpricing pre-configured options) or get a pre-configured pizza. The first time we had The Works, which is similar to what Papa John's has and the second time I got the Hawaiian. There are two sizes, regular and large. The cost difference between the two is minimal, anywhere from $2-3 difference for a considerable slice difference. What hurts is the fact that my Works was around $35 for the large (8 slices). I don't recall the wings pricing but there's a small & large order as well. The pizza is good and that's one of the reasons we went twice. The edge crust is braided and the toppings-to-cheese-to-sauce ratio is perfect. Big wings scare me because sometimes they aren't cooked enough and small wings make me angry because it's a rip-off and you end up with chicken jerky. Their wings were the crispy, had ample sauce tossed on them, and the perfect size not too big/not too small. Overall, I really like this place despite the price. It's good food in a cool atmosphere. There is an arcade in the back of the restaurant but I didn't have any cash or coins, so I didn't even bother taking my daughter back there. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area! read more

Because of his enthusiasm, I chose his pizza over all other pizza options on the mountain and in the area. They did not disappoint! I ordered two bottles of wine; one for while I waited and one to enjoy with my meal. I ordered the large Formaggio Pizza (3 kinds of cheese). The big marshmallows you see are large dollops of ricotta cheese! I ordered a side of sauce because I LOVE SAUCE and bathing in it should be an option at a good pizza joint! Peak holiday week - this place was overwhelmingly crowded. It was a long line at 5pm, and after that, a fairly long wait for pizza to be ready, and limited available seating due to crowds. We tried going into the arcade but I couldn't get the kiosk machine to work to take any of my cards (credit card, debit card, etc,), so we didn't play games. I suppose after all of that... I did expect the pizza to be magical. But in reality - The pizza (and cookies) were really good but not "magical" I think they may have a hard time keeping up with big crowds at peak season (which I can understand). I do love the idea of this place and next time I plan to call ahead and order as take-out! We WERE there during the three weekends of the year that the Land of Oz turns all of Beech Mountain into a filled to the gills tourist town. That's exactly what this is. Tourist food. There is no brick oven. More than half of the menu isn't available. The staff is rude. People are shoving by just to get a table. There is an arcade in the back that I didn't even want to step foot into because it looked too stressful. We hadn't eaten in many an hour as we walked all over Oz and we were quite hungry. After we waited in a winding line, we got to the counter and placed an order. We were told all the items that weren't available and changed accordingly. When I asked about how long the wait was, I got an eye roll. She then pointed to a sign about ordering cheese bread if we are hungry..so I did. The food came out all at the same time anyway. I had gotten two beers from the cooler wall, where there is an employee in a little room that checks ID (she was super friendly, but the concept is odd). We started eating and I thought...what is this famous for? Everything was a little under cooked. The cheese bread that was supposed to save the day was just...boo. There was not one sprinkle of salt on anything, and I really doubt there was a brick oven involved. They get points for cute pizza parlor décor to include all the Ninja Turtles. read more

When I physically picked up the pizzas, they seemed unusually heavy. My first thoughts were, "these pizzas must be really doughy or they've included the brick oven." Then you're hit with the next shocker, as in, sticker shock... the price, $65.00. It's almost impossible to comprehend how they can justify that price for mediocre pizza.
