If I could give zero stars I would. Arrived at 1145 order apps got them at 1240, and chicken wings came out at 1250. Place isn't busy mind you. Potato Skins were cold and cheese wasn't melted. Ordered fried pickles they came out cold as well took one bite just went ahead and sent them back. Haven't got the check yet I'm sure they will still charge me for them, waitress never asked how our food was or even a sorry her legit response was idk what's taking so long. Asked for a Manager and was told she is the only one cooking right now. I will absolutely be back what a disgrace. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed. I have never seen so many unbussed tables in my life. The bar was lined with dozens of empty drinks. The employees were doing the best they could, there simply were not nearly enough of them. There was an empty beer bottle in front of us when we got there, it was still there when we left 2 hours later. The food was OK, mostly. Our artichoke dip took so long to get to us, the melted cheese had re-solidified. It and our salads came out about 10 minutes after our entrees, bizarrely. Look at all the other reviews over the months and years, stating this place is severely understaffed. Owner, do not give me this "we are shortstaffed, please be patient" BS. We love Macado's but warning, do NOT go on a game day. We have been a couple different times on a game day and they have been severely understaffed. Our most recent visit: We arrived after an App State home football game. We were told it was a 45 minute wait. We had to wait in the restaurant because they don't text or anything when your table is ready, they just yell your name. We tried to get a drink from the bar while waiting and there was only one bartender and he wouldn't even acknowledge us since we were just standing at the bar- not seated. We finally got seated and the restaraunt was only about half full, but we had to wait 45 minutes? Our waitress was nice but was running around like crazy. At one point, my husband asked for another beer and the waitress literally told us "can I get you something else, the keg is tapped and no one has a free second to change it." The food was typical bar food. The cinnamon roll was AMAZING as always!!!!!! The best part. The restaraunt is decorated cool with different magazine covers but warning, if you are at the back of the restaraunt, you can't see any of the TV's to watch football. As we were waiting for our large party brunch, we popped in here to grab a drink. I will say, service from the hostess was not the friendliest when we asked if our large group could post up at the bar. Eventually, after chatting with the bar manager we were able to grab seats there and enjoy a cocktail. I opted for a bloody mary that was actually quite good. The best part is that bought drinks for myself and my two friends for under $20. I'd say this is prob a spot to grab a good beer and bar food. One of the best crispy chicken wraps I've ever had!!! I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were staying for Land of Oz and needed to grab lunch before heading home to the Oz. I'm a chicken wrap snob and always looking for places that have wraps! It was SO good. The Buffalo sauce was amazing. Perfect level of spice. Boone, NC. Home to Appalachian State University. My daughter had a campus visit and Macado's has been a landmark in downtown for decades. They specialize in sandwiches of very many varieties. I mean DOZENS to choose from plus you can order burgers and such. All three of us ordered sandwiches. All of them were good. And per usual, I have an issue with the price. $39 for three sandwiches and fruit cup as a side. The fruit was an option, not an extra charge. Service was great and the place was clean and inviting. $12+ For a SANDWICH? I guess I'll never get used to how high prices have gotten over the last two years. Macado's does offer quality food and good service in a fun atmosphere. Located right on the main drag in downtown Boone, it's worth a trip to experience. Go App! read more

So, my lady is an App St alum, and she loved Macado's when in school. So we were in the mountains, and made an hour long detour to Boone so that she could have a treat. NOT a home game day. Bad idea. Got there, the place was only half full.... The sign said wait to be seated... We did... Nobody showed up to seat us. 10 minutes. 15... Servers walking around, but nobody showed up. Bad. Finally about 20 minutes later, we noticed there were two seats together at the bar... They hadn't been cleaned up from the last couple that was there.... But we walked over and sat down (there were still people behind us waiting to be seated). Bartender said that he'd be right over... great. He moved in slow motion though, like a sloth in a TV commercial or a DMV worker. We attempted to get his attention multiple times.... no dice. It was always better to talk to other employees or make a drink with slothlike speed Finally, after waiting 20 minutes for attention... F it. I wasted 40+ minutes of my time and couldn't even get a drink and put an order in. There were two busboys (one was a woman) who were walking around with trays full of dirty dishes, but I think they were just walking around, not actually bussing tables. Worst service of my life... and they didn't even make a sale. The employees looked totally apathethic and much more interested in talking to each other than serving customers. IF you are a manager here.... you will find your sales improve if you actually serve customers. If you are a server or bartender here... the same for your tips. Terrible. read more

We stepped into Macados because we smelled the cinnamon rolls and then decided to eat lunch at the bar. They have a menu with a nice variety of options. I had a Mary Wiseman Breakfast Stout which liked. It had an unexpected spice (hot pepper) flavor mixed in ( couldn't figure out how the name correlated to the flavor). The chicken and cheese quesadilla was tasty. I would have given a higher rating overall but the service was a bit random and not well organized, leaving tables not cleaned and quests waiting at times. My brother, his fiance, and I went to go take engagement photos in the mountains of Boone this weekend. We decided to stop for lunch and found this little restaurant! The environment was very southern and rustic. Our waitress Maddie was very attentive and kind. The food was excellent, I got their Mac n cheese burger and fries, and even got to try some of the homemade chips. Absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious. First time here in Boone, NC. Started with a couple local Highland brewery brews forgot the name, but very good! And ordered 20 breaded & fried garlic parm chicken wings, which we destroyed. Then on to a Blues Brothers burger - blue cheese and bacon, thinly sliced red onion, lettuce and tomato. The excellent: Bacon cheeseburger was perfect. Just like it has been in the past when we have eaten at a Macados. The ok: wait time wasn't bad - maybe 25 minutes. Server was nice enough but saw her exactly there times. At order. Came to see if we wanted our check. Brought receipt back at end. Never filled our drinks or even stopped to ask if everyone was ok. The bad: The fries had been laying around either in a pan or under a heat lamp. My wife's chicken breast was on the cold side and her house chips were likely leftover from lunch. Rubbery and cool. The burger saved what could have been a completely poor experience, but this is the second poor experience in three trips. Don't see a return visit to this location in my future. read more

My rating is based on a combined 3 experiences. The first two experiences would be rated a 4/5 while this last one, the one from today ... actually just a few minutes ago... would easily be 5/5. I can't remember exactly what I ordered my first two times, which was well over two years ago, but I remember thinking it was good/fine but not "the best ever" as sometimes this place was advertised as. One of those instances was during a happy hour with some folks, and it was a good time; good beer and good food. During that time, I was trying to eat primarily vegetarian, though, and I remember thinking my options were rather limited for sandwich items if I didn't want meat. I'm sure that's changed since. Today, however, is a different story. Since it's football today, my partner and I are watching a game - as I type this. I left him in charge of "football food" which probably wasn't the best idea. (He just got chicken tenders from Publix for dinner...lol, what? Nothing else? Where are the sides?) As such... I had to supplement or I knew we'd all be in trouble. I decided to order from Macado's tonight as they are partnering with DoorDash for delivery and I had to be around for kickoff. Best choice I've made in a while. I ordered one order of spinach artichoke dip with pita bread (could choose form that or tortilla chips) since that is what I was craving (around $9). I also ordered an appetizer called "Chips, Dips, & Things." It comes with 1 large salted pretzel + beer cheese dip, homemade onion dip + homemade potato chips, and salsa + tortilla chips. For only $10! Every single food item is delicious and perfect for tonight, and it was reasonable at only ~$20. For the first time ever, my bf is standing IN THE KITCHEN eating and watching the television from afar. Normally, he'd be yelling at the TV and not eating anything until the game was over. We were told 25 minutes but waited about 45 minutes to be seated. I didn't mind this though, I could clearly see they were understaffed and lacking servers. Once seated, after another wait, our server came and took our full orders. After another long wait the food finally arrived to mixed reviews. The appetizer, fried pickle spears, were quite tasty and cooked nicely. My husband ordered potato salad with his Reuben and received an underwhelming macaroni salad. His Reuben was excellent though. My son ordered these kids pizza and refused to eat it because of the huge chunks of tomatoes in the sauce. My husband tried it and said he didn't blame him, the tomatoes were too much. I ordered a cheeseburger cooked well, it arrived pink and wet in the middle to the point where I could not eat it. The best thing about this place was the cinnamon roll. Unfortunately... Too late, I realized that the ladies wearing gloves while making, baking, handling and plating the cinnamon rolls at the front of the restaurant were the same ladies that were wearing gloves while hostessing and those were the same ladies wearing gloves while cleaning and bussing tables. They changed their gloves not one single time moving from operation to operation. So the same gloves used to spray cleaning solution on a table were the same gloves passing out and collecting menus were the same gloves handling the cinnamon rolls. Yikes! And yuck. read more

I will start with the atmosphere and our server did all she could do and was good at it. However, we were a party of 4, and the establishment, had no tea, so we all ended up with water. In addition to that, out of the 4 meals ordered, 3 of them, they didn't have all the ingredients to prepare the food. Out of many things. Finally got an order of food they had, and it took over an hour to get, and the food was disgusting. I ordered a salad, and the entire thing was wilting and like a weed off, even had a smell to it. I used to love this place. They absolutely had the best atmosphere and in my opinion, the best cinnamon rolls, Pre--Covid. I was so disappointed with the staffing and the care in service. Firstly, it took more than 30 minutes to get our food and most of it was cold or nearly. The temperature in the Restaurant was set to 60 degrees and the floors were so cold that even with shoes and thick socks, our feet were cold. Usually meals are kept warm under a heat lamp until everything for one table is complete, then everything is delivered to the table still hot... Nothing worse than cold Fries with a lukewarm hotdog. My wife's French Onion Soup was only warm, watery broth with no onions... Chef!, shame on you. The cinnamon rolls need to be re-evaluated. What used to be "to die for" delicious has become smaller, smashed in the middle and just filled with sugar icing. They are actually about half the size than what I remember from years ago. I'm almost ashamed that I recommended Macado's to family and friends because it was NOT as I had remembered and the food was less than par. We tipped Lee, our waiter well but we are hoping that They can get the staff trained and equipment repaired to make it a better experience. Just wish he would have told us about the outdoor seating, although limited, that's where I'd recommend sitting depending on the weather. The first stop was the hostess stand by the delicious smelling cinnamon rolls. Odd that they are famous for these, but aren't open for breakfast. They do lunch and dinner and are a night time bar. What a menu! Lots and lots of choices. We narrowed down our sandwich choices and while mine was great, I'm glad I didn't get the corned beef--it was mostly fat and gristle. I gave this spot 3 stars because even though the food was quite good, and they have these Cinnabon's which are as big your head, the service was a little subpar. I came here for lunch on a Sunday. It wasn't too packed, and there was definitely a fair amount of waitstaff present, but I still felt as though we were a little neglected at times. The food though was rather tasty. My brother got one of their salads, and I got their bacon burger, which was nicely medium rare, and pretty filling (I had to take half home). The one thing that could have been better was if the fries were hotter. We got 2 of their tasty Cinnabon's to go, and we devoured one at home later on. The icing was so tasty, and there was so much of it. This is a fairly good place to stop in at if you're ever in Boone. read more

Disgusting! We came to visit APP college and needed some where to relax. I would give NO stars if I could... We ordered the pretzels and they were soaking with way to much butter and/or oil! The bottoms were so hard we couldn't even chew them. We put the pretzel at the end of the table BC the smell was making us nauseous, not that our waiter even asked we were not eating them or if there was something wrong. My daughter ordered bacon on her sandwich and the bacon was completely RAW! As we were walking out people were walking and we told them don't waste your money! Needless to say waste of our money! Came into Macado's on a Thursday night. It was around 9:45pm and options were pretty limited in Boone at that hour for food. The place was pretty empty when I arrived so I sat at the bar. I was greeted quickly but the service kinda fell off after that. The best that I could tell was if you were a regular and/or an App Student, you got lots of time and attention. I get that. I ordered a hot dog with chili, slaw, and mustard and fries. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The hot dog itself was HUGE. Big bun, big dog, toppings piled pretty high. The let down: the chili on the dog was like soup-chili with beans. Everyone knows hot dog chili shouldn't have beans in it. Womp womp. Fries were ok. All in all, the meal was fine. If I was there at an early hour I would have probably chosen a different spot, but Macado's was open and had what I needed. read more

My family and I ate here for dinner and accidentally left a small bag of candy at our table that we had just picked up from the Mast General Store a few minutes prior. 10 minutes after we left the restaurant I realized our bag was left behind and we went back to go get it. When we came back to ask about the bag of candy the staff was eating it! Literally we were gone for 10 minutes and the staff started to eat my daughter's candy. She cried all the way home and was absolutely devastated to learn that the candy we bought for her was gone. I am astounded by the lack of professionalism.
