We love Macado's but warning, do NOT go on a game day. We have been a couple different times on a game day and they have been severely understaffed. Our most recent visit: We arrived after an App State home football game. We were told it was a 45 minute wait. We had to wait in the restaurant because they don't text or anything when your table is ready, they just yell your name. We tried to get a drink from the bar while waiting and there was only one bartender and he wouldn't even acknowledge us since we were just standing at the bar- not seated. We finally got seated and the restaraunt was only about half full, but we had to wait 45 minutes? Our waitress was nice but was running around like crazy. At one point, my husband asked for another beer and the waitress literally told us "can I get you something else, the keg is tapped and no one has a free second to change it." The food was typical bar food. The cinnamon roll was AMAZING as always!!!!!! The best part. The restaraunt is decorated cool with different magazine covers but warning, if you are at the back of the restaraunt, you can't see any of the TV's to watch football. I felt bad because the people working were really working so hard and running around like crazy. They truly did their best but the restaraunt was just severely understaffed.

BIGGEST RED FLAG--87.5 food rating but it was game day and we were tired and hungry ---and you would think this place would be over staffed to make sure people were getting in and out in a timely manner. table of four waited for 30 minutes and half the restaurant was empty. from sitting down to leaving we were there for almost 1hr and 45 mins. it took at least 30 minutes to get a beer and they brought a glass with a chip in the top of the glass. i almost cut my mouth..they did however bring me a new glass and beer. vibes are good food was terrible DO NOT get the nachos for an appetizer...who puts black olives on nachos??? lasagna tasted like straight sugar wings were good mac & cheese burger was dried out and the mac & cheese was non existent hot dog was the best thing the table ordered BUT it's hard to mess up a hot dog. maybe if they condensed the menu instead of having so much of everything it would be better...just a suggestion.

One of the best crispy chicken wraps I've ever had!!! I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were staying for Land of Oz and needed to grab lunch before heading home to the Oz. I'm a chicken wrap snob and always looking for places that have wraps! It was SO good. The Buffalo sauce was amazing. Perfect level of spice. My husband had the Diamond Jim, my son had the quesadilla. We all loved our food! We had the fried pickles as well. Highly recommend this place for sure!! Cute little vibe as well.

Boone, NC. Home to Appalachian State University. My daughter had a campus visit and Macado's has been a landmark in downtown for decades. They specialize in sandwiches of very many varieties. I mean DOZENS to choose from plus you can order burgers and such. All three of us ordered sandwiches. All of them were good. And per usual, I have an issue with the price. $39 for three sandwiches and fruit cup as a side. The fruit was an option, not an extra charge. Service was great and the place was clean and inviting. $12+ For a SANDWICH? I guess I'll never get used to how high prices have gotten over the last two years. Macado's does offer quality food and good service in a fun atmosphere. Located right on the main drag in downtown Boone, it's worth a trip to experience. Go App!

We were looking for a place to eat in downtown Boone and almost walked right by this place Busy as all get out at 2:00 pm on a Saturday. We sat at the bar so we could order faster. Short staffed all around. One bar tender who was filling bar drinks as well as table drinks and taking food orders He hustled non stop - Slim thanks for doing a great job. Not sure that the place is being managed well. Maybe good, reliable help is hard to find, but it is a college town and don't college students need work? The food was great. My first time having Irish Nachos, and I have been to Ireland. I would suggest holding the lettuce ..Nachos don't need lettuce

My first time eating out in Boone and I can honestly say I regret coming to this restaurant. We waited about 50 minutes to receive our food and they only brung out half of it and we waited another 15 for the rest . The food was mediocre wings were cold , broccoli on the Alfredo was uncooked and they waited till they brung out my food to tell me they were out of grilled chicken .Although the environment is nice everything else about this restaurant did not deliver at all .(mind you they weren't to busy )(tots were decent )

    Blues brothers burger

First time here in Boone, NC. Started with a couple local Highland brewery brews forgot the name, but very good! And ordered 20 breaded & fried garlic parm chicken wings, which we destroyed. Then on to a Blues Brothers burger - blue cheese and bacon, thinly sliced red onion, lettuce and tomato. Also ordered Mac & cheese with chicken tenders (very tasty) & a Betty Boop sandwich - turkey, and bacon with cheese. Finished with a hot cinnamon bun with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Good service cool building

We had a great lunch at Macado's today. I had the gourmet burger and my wife had fish and chips. They were short handed, but we had the most outstanding server Stephanie y, who handled every thing like a true professional. She remained calm and collected no matter what was going on.

It might have just been the holiday rush, but I always figure "busy means good," so my expectations were high--and The Local didn't disappoint. We started with the nachos; they were delicious, though I do wish they came with a bit more meat. For mains, the burger was outstanding--probably one of the best we've had in the entire area. We also ordered the Brazilian steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with great plantains. The quinoa with tofu was good, too, though it was a little dry and would have been perfect with a sauce. The service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and refilled my water at least four times without me asking. Great ambiance and an all-around good experience. Definitely worth the wait!

Their bartenders are, to a person, superlative. Haley, Lexi, and Emily (still in-training, though…read moreshe has more-than-ample experience) were all professional and delightful this Boonerang weekend. If only the establishment would spring for cable during the World Cup, my experience of The Social as a "sports bar" would've been unparalleled compared to the other pretenders who decided the U.S. Open was the only "sport" worth airing. If I'd only come for wings and such, I'd've had no notes. But guys, your salads are culinarily (and decidedly) confused. My burrata was delivered atop a spiral of beefsteak wedges, nestled among wild greens, with zero seasoning, which is a hate crime when it comes to tomatoes; golden beets would've elevated it considerably, normally without much consideration... however. I'd thankfully chosen to add salmon, which was cooked to perfection, saving the dish. Haley suggested salt and pepper, which was a clutch move. Given the pleasant part of my previous experience, the salmon salad I ordered two nights later was even more discombobulated. Emily asked what kind of dressing I'd prefer, and I managed to avoid recoiling from the options provided: bleu cheese, ranch, thousand island... and then, finally, a cilantro-lime vinaigrette - the only suitable option. Instead of a deep plate, this was served essentially as a "bowl" that one might receive from delivery, only in a ceramic vessel. "Crispy" garbanzo beans (?!) were in one section of the plate, worse green olives than came with my martinis in another, four sad cucumber slices and pickled red onions in yet another, and in the saddest section, under-cooked yellow beets - half-run through a mandoline to make matchsticks, only still-connected at one end into slices to make Hell-deemed beet sporks. Again, all atop mixed greens, which are commonly available, even at Wal-Mart. I didn't deign to more than glance at my neighbors' plates, for fear I'd take even more offense, but the people making food at The Social are either under-staffed or inexperienced, as being unserious would likely wash out if anyone were to pay attention. Regardless, management is to blame for such disappointing experiences, and not their cooks, and certainly not their bartenders. Do better by Boone, and stop reinforcing the notion that standards are somehow lower in the High Country. Don't make me go to Macado's when I visit again next year.

We stopped at South End Brewing for lunch and loved the cozy, laid-back vibe. I tried a pumpkin beer while Steve went for an espresso martini--both were fantastic choices for a fall afternoon. It came with quinoa and spring mix as the base, topped with edamame, cucumbers, guacamole, cabbage, crispy wontons, and fresh ahi tuna. It was flavorful and beautifully presented, though I honestly couldn't find much quinoa--it felt more like a salad than a grain bowl. The Tuna Poke Nachos were incredible, almost comparable to the ones at Yard House, and the Flounder Sandwich was also a tasty choice. However, there were a couple of misses. I also grabbed a Caesar salad, but the croutons were a little weird and personally weren't my favorite. They have an open kitchen concept that could be an amazing experience (huge wood fire oven you can watch the cooks work, watch the pizza crust being tossed in the air, toppings added, and pies created) but sitting at the bar totally ruined that - trash all over the floor, employees throwing order tickets on the floor, rags and a towel under the prep sink, and worst of all - the over flowing trash cans with rubber gloves falling out. It was gross. The employee's had no respect for the open concept or keeping a clean cooking area. All the pieces to make the kitchen amazing (as it was obviously designed) are there, I just wish it was being used that way. Put away the clean dishes vs leaving them in those cleaning racks for everyone to look at, empty the trash, take some pride in the work. If it was treated like a sushi bar and glorified the way it can be, I'd give it 10 out of 5 stars!

But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.
