The food is delicious. Remarkable: biscuits and gravy-- homemade biscuits with a delicious white gravy. Ruben Sammie was outta sight: savory, saucy, satisfying! Don't miss the blackberry cobbler and ask about seasonal items, like pumpkin items in the fall. Service was prompt, friendly, and stopped by to check on us. Be aware, they pass on credit card / debit card charges to the customer, so paying cash is cheaper. The establishment was clean (floors, tables, and chairs / booths). The decorations fit the setting of West Jefferson and Appalachia: hillbilly but nice, warm, and comfortable. S.O.S is the proper name for this dish. If anyone has ever had chip beef, they will truly be disappointed. seeing the review about racism here, but was waited on by a Hispanic. She was very nice as were the other two girls questioned the lack of chip beef and was told they had others complain about it, but couldn't do anything about it. read more

We came here on our way to go canoeing, came with my extended family. At first, it took us a while to get in, but when we did, it was amazing. Just a short walk from downtown W Jefferson is the cutest diner! Sweet people, fast and excellent service, great food, and reasonable prices. There are comfortable and clean booths and tables inside, as well as outdoor seating for lovely days like today. My wife, daughter and I had variations of omelettes, each hit the spot. Went here to enjoy a nice home-cooked style breakfast, was disappointed. The eggs were undercooked, the biscuits tasted canned and not cooked all the way, still tasted dough. The gravy was bland and again, tasted like it was from a can. The bacon was good (it's bacon, never had any bad before) the pancake was overdone. This is a super cute place! The decor is amazing! I was extremely impressed by the service of every single worker in this establishment. They were always helping each other out, getting food out quickly, cleaning off tables quickly, and checking on every single patron there. The other customers were also super sweet as one gentleman moved tables so that our larger party could have a place to sit. The food was extremely fresh! Every single item was great! We love this place!! We ate here every day we were in West Jefferson. It's great because we woke up as we felt like it and never missed breakfast; they serve it all day! I love their grits, and the omelet was delicious. But the best part about the place is the people. Not only is the wait staff the best, our server always remembered I wanted decaf as soon as I walked in. The patrons are equally delightful! One man spoke to another about his breakfast order, then overheard his wife had recently been in the hospital and came over to make sure she was alright. The atmosphere has all the charm of a true small mountain town. Our service was very fast despite the crowd but the staff never seemed rushed. We plan to eat here every time we're in West Jefferson. I find that this is a great place for breakfast. We often bring the dogs and sit outside in the front and they provide dog bowls of water. They are very friendly toward their patrons and provide good service at a reasonable price. I highly recommend giving them a try, if you haven't been or you are from out of town. read more

They were racist to my son and his Caucasian Fraternity brother's. If my son would not have been there, they would have allowed his Caucasian brothers to enter and be seated at one of the several tables that were open and available for patrons. These young men witnessed the racism because my handsome who happens to have melanated beautiful black skin given to him by God was told that he had to wait while they allowed other Pale people to enter and be seated when they arrived there after my son and his Caucasian brother's. Thank God that these young men are all intelligent scholars and they recognized the covert racism from the ignorant person at the door and the went to a different restaurant. I would ask that all Black and Brown people boycott Hill Billy Grill! read more

We had SOS (creamed chipped beef on toast) for breakfast and it was just like mama used to make. Really enjoyed this nostalgic dish.

I stopped in on my vacation because I guess it sounded like a cool vibe. But it was actually pretty terrible. Took a very long time for food to arrive and when it arrived it wasn't very good but we chowed down because we were starving. In hindsight we probably should have ordered breakfast dishes not lunch because they do have a reputation for a good breakfast. They did a poor job of keeping water and soda refilled too.
