This is a tough one to rate. The bar list is ok, and the food in general is ok. But you're paying for banal food masquerading as pedantry. A few sprigs of a seemingly exotic herb does not a fancy meal make. I would like to see more wines like riesling and gewurztraminer along with certain Burgundy terroirs to suit their mixed fare. I was disappointed after reading the glowing reviews. We arrived without a reservation, but were seated upstairs quickly. It was more than 8 minutes before we were greeted by our server. I asked what bourbons they have, I could see him reading the labels over my shoulder. I would later notice he did offer Blanton as an option. I ordered a Old Fashion. It was PINK and topped with soda. It was downhill from there. The food was ok and portion size was very small for the price. Ultimately, service could have improved the experience, but the service was awful. read more

I was incredibly disappointed by my whole experience. The dining room was nice but the service was pretty appalling. Lots of clearly trying to get us to move on, and I felt pressurized to go. The food was flavorless, and I'm not entirely sure what the sausage was meant to be beyond dead...very, very dead. Less said about the Haddock, the better. I gave it two stars because of the view, everything else was bang average and this place is best left avoided. read more

You pay for the view, not an excellent meal. These guys are highly acclaimed chefs, but they must be resting on their laurels, because the food here underwhelmed extraordinarily. The space is gorgeous, just look at all the pictures; there is no denying that though. Our oysters weren't shucked properly, which is a HUGE pet peeve. My duck was dried out, and under seasoned. My wife complained her fish was severely under seasoned, as well. Our sides were so unmemorable that I've literally forgotten which of them we had. We went for our 31st anniversary, they would not move us to a window seat as I watched a couple of elderly ladies come in and not like their seat and ask for the same table . Also folks from the Cliff house we know got a table by the window ( no reservations) They gave them table (good for them) and then told us the chef wanted us to order apps and everything at one time: I responded that I don't work for the chef and our server laughed and said she would come by and take our main order. Overall just a crap place. No excuses. Try harder. Oh and the meat was 75% fat . Thanks for a great anniversary. read more

Sitting outside on the rooftop is magical at sunset time. However the bench seat is very uncomfortable and higher than the chair seating so it's not a great feeling of relaxation while dining. Best of The night is the infused raspberry vodka. Strawberry good but not as good as raspberry. Everything else was just alright. Pressed chicken fine but not a big portion. Special halibut had too much sauce. Grilled artichoke not special and expensive. Salad with the crispy peas was tasty. They need lesson from a real barista on how to make a cappuccino. Best view in Ogunquit. Been in before to sit at the down stairs & up stairs bars. Thought I'd bring a date, which seemed like a great idea at the time. I arrived at 5 to find no one working at the fully occupied downstairs bar. I started to head upstairs, when one of the 4 people having a tete a tete at the corner desk snippily informed me that upstairs was closed. I retreated to the bar, where I stood for several minutes without anyone asking if I'd like to order anything. Realizing that bar service wasn't going to happen tonight, I headed back to the hostess stand, asked for a table for two and decided to take my chances with dinner. I was seated promptly and a nice young girl asked me if I'd like some water. I ordered a bottle of still and perused the wine list in an attempt to finally get that drink when she informed me that she was "just the busgirl" and couldn't take my wine order. I waited. And waited. Cuticles checked, menu perused, decor analyzed, stitches in carpet counted, and still no service. A seemingly eternal 20 minutes passed before I was approached by another restaurant employee. I was ready to cut my losses and spend my dining dollars elsewhere, but my date really wanted to dine here so I shelved my better judgment and (finally!) ordered a bottle of wine. The waiter brought the wine, poured it and promptly disappeared, a fact temporarily shielded from my notice by the arrival of my date. We spent about 10 minutes talking and catching up when a new server appeared and asked if we were ready to order. We weren't, but I ordered some oysters as an appetizer and my date and I continued to catch up. After a reasonable time, the second server appeared again to see if we were ready to order. We'd begun looking at the menu, but weren't quite ready so I thought I'd order a second bottle of wine. She informed me that "The chef prefers people to order all at once instead of sporadically," and she also informed me that for that reason, our oyster order had not yet been placed. That was enough for me. The attitude and poor service was only going to spoil my date if I continued to have my date here. I asked for the check, which was dumped in (yet another) huff. I paid, leaving an industry tip and waited at the bar (now bereft of life, with a sole occupant nursing his drink in the corner) while my date used the restroom. The "host" was there and we made eye contact, but he didn't so much as acknowledge us on our way out to another restaurant. I believe that this place is run by the Arrows Company. I had high expectations and anticipated a far better experience from them so I'm even more disappointed than I would be had this been a randomly chosen restaurant. I hope they can pull it together - and I'll give them another chance in the future to show that they have - but one more experience like this and one of the dozens of other area establishments hungry for my business and eager to show it will earn my patronage. read more

This restaurant has greatly dropped in quality since the last time I went here. First off, their "15 minute wait" was actually 45 minutes. We stood at the bar awkwardly and had drinks, while customers pushed in and out of the front door. The bar tender, however, was excellent. The appetizers were good but small, so we finished them quickly and then twiddled our thumbs for at least half an hour... Two of the three main courses were unacceptable for a restaurant of this level. The burger (ordered medium rare) arrived as "medium" (waiter misheard) but looked much closer to well done, it was also tasteless. The dinner salad consisted of two pieces of tiny toast, two little bites of jamon, and a lot of green stuff - while crunchy, this is not an $11 salad. We left MC Perkins Cove very upset and a little hungry. This place used to be highly recommended by us; we're not coming back. read more

Service was good, wait times were fine, but to pay that high of a price for three courses and to still leave hungry was pretty disappointing. Our French fries were burnt as well as our trout entree. The most disappointing however was the size of the $16 salad was about four pieces of lettuce. If I'm paying top dollar for food, I would at the very least like to not leave hungry. Fast forward 3 years since my last review. (We we're here for each NYE since and only once received a different table). we arrived for our 7:00 pm New Years Eve reservation right on time. Approached the Hostess who, after giving our name, checked with the Manager on where to seat us. No one waiting for a table and there were a few tables available. Our choice was, Wait for it...table number 8! Really?? Our other option was upstairs, which is not an option for us It can't possibly be a coincidence that, once again, we got the same table. Actually it's rather comical. What I don't understand is why they would put 2 people at a table for 4 when there is a table for 2 available. When you call and make a reservation they will not guarantee a specific table. Shouldn't it be first come first served? Well I did ask the hostess if there was a reason we weren't seated at the table for 2 and she asked the manager who gave her to OK to move us. So all in all we got a nice table but, after reading other reviews, it seems like the seating is a problem. So why do we keep going back?? The food is delicious!! I had the price fixe: vichyssoise with lobster profiterole, butter lettuce salad with blue cheese and pecans, bacon wrapped tenderloin of beef and dessert. My partner doesn't sway from the lobster Mac n cheese. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our table for a change! read more

I went up to Maine to spend my Birthday and ended up at this place one night. We were seated on the second floor in these nice booths but it was away from the window so there wasn't a great view. We got 1/2 dozen oysters, the chef's special of the day (which were scallops), and lobster mac and cheese. The oysters were delicious but pricy. They were more than 3 dollars per oyster! I have never seen that type of price before. The entrees were also pricy but they weren't anything special at all. Just decent. Total the bill came to about 100 dollars. They didn't even accept Discover and i did not see a sign for that when I walked in. There are better places to go than here. Overpriced for meh food. read more

Yesterday we took our friend and his wife, who are visiting from Europe to Ogunquit for some famous Maine lobster. I have never, ever, had such an unpleasant dining experience as I did last night. The initial impression was quite nice...an inviting atmosphere with nice décor and very pretty views. We were greeted by a fairly pleasant hostess and told to wait for our table. Despite the availability of many tables, we were hurried into a "booth" by the bar, We tried to ask for a table by the window, but no one seemed interested in listening to us. Anyhow, we sat by the bar and were greeted by a very unhappy server dressed in jeans and a blue shirt. He barely answered any questions we had, and if he did, it was NOT with a smile on his face. He was quite annoyed that we were there and he had to serve us. We ordered a bottle of wine, a beer, and bottled water for all of us. We asked for a sample of the clam chowder for our 12 year old daughter because she was concerned about the bacon it contained. He brought the sample in a small dipping dish without a spoon. When we asked for a spoon, he simply said " oh, I would just sip it" and refused to bring a spoon. When our friend, being from Europe and unfamiliar with clam chowder, asked for a sample, he said "no, now you have to order it". We placed our order for appetizers; two salads, calamari, chowders and a dozen oysters and littlenecks - he stood there and demanded that we need to place the entire order since the kitchen makes everything from scratch. He told us he will be back when we make up our minds on entrées and ran off....OK?????? He came back after a few minutes and we placed our "entire" order: the above appetizers, 4 steamed lobster entrées, a clam chowder and a side of French Fries for my 12 year old. We also ordered a second bottle of wine. The majority of the serving was executed by the busboys, which was not a problem for us since they were the friendliest ones there. When we finished, the busboys cleared our table and we waited for the customary hand towels for cleaning our hands after eating lobster. We would have waited all night, if we did not request the towels. The server finally came over and hurriedly asked if we wanted desert. We commented that he seemed in a rush and if they needed the table for other customers, we would forego desert. He snapped back at us "I'm also tending the bar" in an extremely rude tone. Despite, his attitude, we ordered two deserts to share and cappuccinos and espresso. Our friend requested a bottle of sparkling water and when he brought it, he continued to pour it into our half full glasses of plain water. When the check arrived, my husband was very surprised that an automatic 20% gratuity was added to the bill total. Perhaps this is a Maine custom which we are not aware of, however, we are used to the automatic gratuity being added for large parties and at that, it is always 18%. Not that we wouldn't have left a tip, servers work very hard and we always tip a minimum of 20% - 30% when dining out, however, this time a 15% gratuity would have been more than justified. This was the most unpleasant dining experience I have ever had. If asked if we would go back, well, if the wait staff is changed - maybe. The entire dining experience was diminished by the distasteful attitude of this server/bartender. For a tab of $450 for 4 adults and a 12 year old, one would expect much better service. My fiance took me here for our first date, and he took me here again to propose to me! So it has a special place in our hearts, and we love that the management and staff went out of their way to make our evening special the night we got engaged. They even let my fiance bring in his own musicians! On the other end of the formality spectrum, we sometimes come here after my evening yoga class, and they don't even blink when we show up in our sweaty sweats. We really like the staff here, and have had some very amusing (but nevertheless professional) waiters. They are also good about finding us seating when we fail to make reservations in the peak of tourist season. I am not recommending you do this--I am just saying it to point out how swell the staff is. The location is lovely (book an earlier time to get a view before the sun sets), and when the weather is warm, we go for a walk on Marginal Way after dinner. (MW is a path along the ocean bluff -- ask the staff for directions.) Parking can be hard once tourist season starts, even though there is public parking nearby. The food -- well, I know the owner-chefs are famous, but I have to say it is a mixed bag... The ingredients are always fresh--lots of it from their own gardens at Arrows, their sister restaurant. I guess my main complaint is that some of their dishes are waaaay to salty, and others seem kind of bland. Also, the steaks don't always come out the way you order them. Quality control, people!!! (Are you guys listening?) And what is with charging extra--and so much!!!--for the veggies!?!?! Why, oh, why can't I sub them in for those Evil Carbs? (you have to give them irony points for calling them Evil Carbs, most of which are soooo good.) For example, I love the trout--but it is sometimes too salty. Same with the baby bok choy (for which I have to pay extra!). I couldn't even eat the cauliflower, which is one of my favorite veggies. On the other hand, the steaks are great (if they happen to come out cooked to your liking), and the fried chicken is also good. The duck never fails to please us. And the corn bread-like corn pudding (as a southern girl, I would almost call it spoon bread) is crazy good. If that is wrong, you just don't want to be right. I also liked the calamari (but not as much as I like the one at York Harbor Inn), especially with the green pesto-like dip it comes with. And don't even get me started on the complementary peanuts that start off the evening... So, is MCs all that? Not always, but we love it anyways, and will keep forking out the money to eat there in whatever we happen to be wearing at the time. read more

Unfortunately - the stigma about all restaurants with amazing views not having the food to match is proven true here. We had a table by the windows facing the ocean , cozy, romantic, great decor, properly greeted, welcoming, etc. It all ended there. Waiter thought one menu to share between four people was enough, It took 40 minutes to get first appetizer which was a seafood platter (actually was not bad at all - not sure it was worth $46). Salad that followed had some veggies that were browning and of average taste. New York strip followed, over cooked and flavorless. For sides ($8 each) - eggplant was ok, salty miso, bok choi was lifeless. I would not come back - but I'm sure plenty of tourists will give them a try just because of the views. I really would like to find a restaurant that has the food to match the scenery. Someday. read more

This will be the second time my wife and I have eaten here. The first time was a pleasant experience - the second was just as pleasant. Great room, good service. I ordered the sirloin (30.00) with Lee's A1 Sauce and Israel Cous Cous. The strip was about 8oz and was perfectly cooked (medium-rare) and very juicy. I was very happy with it. The cous - cous was very well cooked and prepared with some mild spices. My wife ordered the Mac-Cheese with lobster. (32.00) The cheese was a delightful blend of mild white cheddar and sharp cheddar. The macaroni was the big noodles and the dish was from scratch. The dish came out hot and with a lobster chopped in half. The other half was in the mac and cheese. Very plentiful of meat and well worth the price. She also ordered a side of creamed spinach which was delightful. Very tasty and the cream was light. I mixed some of the spinach in my couscous and I think they will put that on he menu next time..:-) Overall, the dining experience was nice. We went up during the Hurricane Earl scare. The cove and the rest. was quiet so we got a lovely seat at the window overlooking the cove. My only gripe - with the prices above average, the multitude of servers back and fro, I would have liked my Lobster Red Ale in a nicer glass other than a Miller Lite pint glass...very tacky. read more

We have followed owners and chefs Mark and Clark since they first opened the restaurant Arrows which gave them recognition in the food world including from Julia Childs. MC is the prime location due to a view of perfection. The food every season has been the same Not outstanding for too much money This past Friday our experience was one in which convinced us that we will NEVER return. My husband ordered brisket which of course he had had there before. This presentation was so small and cold and sliced incorrectly with the grain. He returned it to get a still cold now dry piece of fatty meat. Each year included was a corn dish listed on the menu cutely as Evil Carbs. It was part of the choice of the dinner. THIS year it was a burnt extra for $6.00. My chicken was fine. My Evil Carb choice was jasmine rice. Not only was it ice cold, I cannot be convinced it was Jasmine rice. It did not have that sweet flavor. The coffee mug as in the past has no handles so you cannot drink your coffee hot since if the coffee is appropriately hot so is the cup. Mark and Clark your restaurant is of a size that you could stop standing in the kitchen as we see you and walk out to get a pulse on the diners in your restaurant. First impressions do count and this one spoke volumes but I didn't listen. We made the reservation one month before we planned to visit to ensure a preferred table by the windows. And/or in the general area. The woman on the phone was less then courteous, was not welcoming, and frankly sounded like the phone call was a nuisance. I mentioned the exchange to my fiancé. We decided to keep the reservation because the food was highly recommended by friends. I contacted them one week before and they did not have the reservation. I neglected to heed my inner voice. But we were forced to make the reservation for 6 PM this time. I mentioned the desire to sit by the windows again and they assured me every table has a beautiful view. I told them as long as we are in the main dining area we will be satisfied. We arrived on time and attempted to have some pleasantries with the hostess including our eagerness to be seated in the dining room that was clearly in view. She told us they were seating first available table. We were led up three sets of stairs to a small room with three tables. It felt like it was meant for a small private party. We expressed our dissatisfaction politely and reiterated our attempts of avoiding this exact situation. She tells us there was nothing she could do. All of a sudden we hear this man's voice almost shouting in a very agitated way they have a wedding that night and he doesn't have anymore available tables. Why didn't our efforts and the reservation mean anything? It went quite poorly following that conflict and we ended up walking out. No food is worth putting up with these unprofessional and rude behaviors. I wish I could have applied a minus star. We will and have visited the other wonderful restaurants in Ogunquit. read more

Overhyped and overpriced. The cod and clam roast was awful with a small piece of cod and a few clams stuck in a bag with overpowering dill. Tasted awful the way it was cooked and not worth $40. My wife's tenderloin for $42 was nothing more than a fatty six or seven bites of steak you could buy at a grocery store. We had high expectations paying $45 dollars for a steak but experienced extremely poor service and were ripped off. Waitress was unable to answer any questions asked including how much our steak was at market value! Paid with a $100 gift card plus cash. Waitress tracked us down in a nearby store and said our gift card did not go thru and brought us back to the restaurant. Spoke to the manager and she said only $80 dollars went thru and said we owed another $20 cash which we paid. Called the gift card and were told they took the full $100 and then took another $20 from us in cash. Called manager and they refused to give us our money back!!!! 1st and last time here!!! This was my first time here and had no idea what to expect. It was suggested to me by a local. We walked in and were told we needed a reservation, but they ended up finding us a table and probably the best one at that. We had corner downstairs table with a view of the ocean. The food was amazing, fresh and creative. I had a clementine martini. It was perfect. Our server was gracious and quick. They continually sent people to pick up dirty plates and fill water which was nice too. Can't wait to go back! read more

We were anticipating our visit to MC Perkins on July 6, 2018 but were highly disappointed with our experience. The servers treated us rudely and ignored us when we requested a different table on their outside patio area. They did reseat us and then ignored us. We had to flag down a different server to order cocktails. You would be better served by any other restaurant in Ogunquit. Save your time and your money. Such a disappointment. read more

We ate here on Friday night and the food was fantastic. Staff was great. The ONLY disappointment was that we were rushed. The couple at a table next to us felt the same as we chatted outside after dinner. The entire meal from drinks to apps to salads to our entrees and even a shared desert all happened in 1 hour! Usually we would feel like we ate in a fast food restaurant at this pace but again the food was great. Our advice to all especially if going for a romantic dinner is take your time and don't be rushed. The ambience is great and we will return but will plan to ask for more time between plates. Came here for Brunch and loved my visit! What a great place! Loved the decor, and the view was really calm and soothing. They had live jazz, which was a really nice touch on a gorgeous Sunday morning. The bloody mary is SO good. Classic and perfect are the two words that I would use to describe it. No bells and whistles.. no fancy ingredients.. just... yumminess. I ordered the burger which was truly fantastic. Very juicy and the bread was sooooo fresh. Plus, the sweet potato fries are tempura battered! yummmmmmmmmm. My mom had the poached egg with crab salad. The crab was a little fishy smelling but it was still pretty darn delicious.
