So disappointed! I had such high expectations for M.C.'s. For starters, my Husband's menu had dried food on it. The waiter overfilled my water glass; water all over the table. Ok, we can easily get past that. But what we were most disturbed about was when we went to order our appetizer, the waitress informed us that we had to put our whole meal in at one time. Claiming it makes the kitchen and delivery of the food go smoother. 35 minutes later, we were done our entire meal! The courses came out so quickly. We had no time to linger, enjoy the view, or celebrate my birthday in a relaxing manner. To spend over $200 for dinner that lasts not quite 45 minutes is absurd! So so disappointed. read more

Was a little skeptical after reading some of the review, but my wife and I voted that this was the best place to eat in Ogunquit. Firstly, the busboy was very nice and made sure we had water. The waitress was sweet and cheerful, and knowledgeable about the menu. My wife ordered fried artichokes and I ordered the watermelon salad to start. I am not a fan of artichokes, but these were lightly fried tempura style and came either three different dipping sauces. The watermelon salad was just scrumptious with a whipped feta (as creamy and light as whipped cream), read onion, and sprigs of mint. For the main course, my wife had the brick-pressed chicken with layered potatoes and I had the grilled swordfish with cuscus. (The cuscus was so tasty. It is served cold, mixed with a dressing, green onions, and topped with a tomato-like sauce. VERY DELICIOUS.) We finished dinner with sharing the house crème broule (sp?) served with two herb cookies. The views were beautiful. Did I mention the waitress? I am not quite sure why this place is so underrated. This setting is lovely and the service was excellent. The squash bisque arrived piping hot with a little bit of cream but not overly so and was delicious. The tagliatelle with pork was a work of art. We truly enjoyed the peanut butter mousse dessert. I'm so surprised by the negative reviews. We had reservations for my husband's birthday and had a lovely experience. We were seated at a table adjacent to a large window overlooking the water. We ordered martinis to start along with a very tasty mussels appetizer. We enjoyed wine along with swordfish and an amazing lobster Mac-n-cheese for dinner. The bar and table service were both excellent and the chef stopped by our table to say hello and enquire about our meal. We would most definitely go back again. read more

Such a disappointing dining experience. We brought our out-of-town guest to MC Perkins Cove because of the reported fine dining experience and views. We have been to MC Perkins a number of times before but not since the former manager became the owner. The views are spectacular, but the service, attitude and management is the worst I have ever had. My partner ordered the chef's special, our guest and I both ordered the grilled sword fish over couscous. Within a couple of minutes after our order was placed, dinners were put on our table, problem was it was not our food. It belonged to the adjacent table. The manager realized the mistake and quickly scooped the plates up and put them on the table they belonged to. One of the plates was handed to the waiter by a person seated at our table. Ok, that happens sometimes but I thought to myself if a guest at a table handed a plate to a waiter and then they placed it in front of me I would not have accepted it. It gets worse, I ordered a glass of wine which was very nice. Our food arrived and the sword fish was topped with a red sauce. I tasted it with the fish and the couscous, and I thought to myself, "that taste like catsup and is the couscous supposed to be served chilled under the hot grilled swordfish". The guest across from me who ordered the same thing said to me, "is that catsup on top of the fish?" I completely stopped eating and thought within a couple of minutes, the waiter or someone would stop by to see if everything was prepared properly. After our waiter made at least 20 trips by our table totally ignoring us, I finally stopped him and asked if the couscous was supposed to be served chilled and was informed no but should be room temperature. The waiter stormed off and went to tell the manager/owner. The manager approached our table aggressively and asked if there was a problem. I told him the waiter passed by 20 times while I sat there no touching my food and an empty wine glass and told him the couscous was cold. The manager/owner told me it was supposed to be cold and asked me, "so, is the problem the cold couscous or because your glass of wine is empty?" I was floored by his reaction. He scooped up the plate of food that I had only taken one bite of and said as he walked away, "I will bring your check so you can get out of the restaurant". He walked over with the check and charged for my plate without even offering to prepare another one, would I like something else etc. My partner said let's just pay it and leave and I said absolutely not. Several minutes passed, and I guess they realized I was not leaving and they brought another check with the one meal removed. I paid the $110 bill and left the waiter a $20 tip which probably should not have done. We will stick to truly excellent restaurants such as The Crooked Pine, The Front Porch, Jackie's Too and Walkers Maine. read more

Perfect from start to finish for our anniversary dinner. We were greeted instantly when we arrived and sat at a great table outside. I had the Halibut which was fantastic, and my wife the Lobster Mac and Cheese which was incredible. Excellent service throughout dinner and the honey cake was delicious for dessert. Truly Hate to do this, as this place used to be a major favorite of ours every time we visit the Northeast. I can't understand what happened and how this beautiful gem has gone so far downhill. This was just the absolute rudest treatment we have received at a restaurant. We arrived on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch with a total of six people. We were asked if we wanted and table and we said we wanted a bar table upstairs. (Unless it is busy/dinner, every time we have been here we walk to the upstairs bar area because we love the view and how cozy it is.) There were two tables seated upstairs, the rest of the bar area empty. We sat at a table, and were immediately scolded and told: 'this is a fine dining restaurant you don't seat yourself.' Then proceeded to tell us by two different people: 'That's why we asked when you walked in' And again, 'this is a fine dining restaurant.'. Ok- I understand. But in our defense we have been to your restaurant more than a half dozen times and have always gone upstairs. Furthermore- how rude to talk to customers in that tone. They then allowed us to choose a table. There wasn't one with enough room so we sat in the corner at a large table a few inches from a small table and pushed them together. We were immediately scolded and told: 'This is a fine dining restaurant. You don't move a chair or rearrange- that's how things break. If you had waited for a table we would have accommodated you.' Perhaps the other seven or eight times I have been to MC's the fine dining gestapos were not there, but we have always seated ourselves when we sit upstairs here! I honestly do not know why we didn't leave right then. We then proceeded to have the most awkward lunch that I can ever remember having. I felt like I was in trouble, inconveniencing the staff and having lunch in the principals office. If you are going to act like this- you DESERVE to be called out: dark haired guy at the bar downstairs that was back and forth upstairs: maybe you are the owner? You have absolutely no manners whatsoever. You must truly hate your job to treat people like this. Short dark haired female server: if your intent was to make us feel unwelcome, you get a gold star. Long haired female bartender: I am SO sorry we inconvenienced you with our lunch. After coming to our table and having one person request something and walking away before anyone else could ask for anything (because she didn't ask first). The third time before she could leave I asked everyone in our party- does anyone need anything - she proceeded to holler across the bar across the restaurant 'does anyone at THAT table need anything?' Not even going to comment at the food, as it was fine. But this could be the best food on the planet but you could not pay me to be treated like this. I will say the service was never amazing- but the rudeness and snobbery was so far beyond what anyone could be prepared for. If the owner was not there on Saturday, I hope they take an objective look at this and seriously review their crew. read more

Went to MC last night for 20th Anniversary, my wife got tenderloin which was excellent , I ordered pressed chicken which was inedible . The only discernible flavor was salt . I let the sever know she asked if I wanted anything else I sad no, I had eaten my rice and shared the tenderloin. She offered us a free dessert we declined but we're sent the dessert anyway , which we did not eat. Shortly after receiving our "free" dessert we received the check with the charge for the $29 inedible chicken on the bill. I told the server we would not pay for the chicken, she spoke to manager it was taken off the bill. We have been going to MC for years and the Hurricane prior to that . I believe our server had the best of intentions but the manager or chef or whoever made her leave the charge on the bill. We are frequent visitors to Ogunquit and only live 40 minutes away. We will not be returning and additionally will tell all what a miserable experience we had. read more

1st time here and the atmosphere and food was great. Wait staff was very good and efficient. A little too efficient!!! We felt very rushed and they were not busy. Reservation was at 7 we arrived at 6:40 to have a drink in the bar and they immediately took us too our table. We ordered drinks and then an appetizer. They came to take dinner order we ordered and the food was out quickly. We expressed we weren't in any hurry to order they came back 10 minutes later to take our order. Food was out 10 minutes later. I had a reservation tonite with a handicapped person. There is a handicapped spot in front of the restaurant - but it was filled with a Porsche, owned by the restaurant owner. I was told too bad - the spot was for the owner. They told me to drop my handicapped person in front of the restaurant, and go find a parking spot somewhere. The Porsche was also parked in front of the handicapped elevator - so we would have to walk up the flight of stairs. Needless to say, I found another restaurant. BIG THUMBS DOWN. read more

"You probably should go at least once." My wife and I's second time here. First time was in September and was actually quite a good experience, though it had its issues, but this time will be the focus of this review. We showed up about 10 minutes early for a 6 o'clock reservation. When we walked in the door, we were instantly greeted by the bartender who seemed genuinely happy to see us and directed us to the host's desk where the host seemed to be having trouble corralling a big crowd of staff. We were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating and we chose outdoor. The host gave oddly specific instructions to the guy who showed us to take a d when we got to the deck it was almost empty and the table that he was directed to bring us to was the only one not in the shade. Not sure if that was the purpose or not, but it out the sun directly in one person's eyes. It was pretty windy too but the temperature was just perfect so we didn't mind. There was one other couple on the deck, sitting off to the side and I guess they were waiting for an indoor seat? They got updated a couple times on waiting times I think. Waitress came over and was pleasant but aloof. My wife and I are a pretty unassuming pair. It felt like rather than be a bit more relaxed with us, it was like she was less than pleased to have people like us rather than the, Im sure, more well off patrons that are probably more common to see there. The time in between getting our drinks and getting our food was priceless. Just sitting, washed in the ocean air, the water ceaselessly lapping at the rocks, alternating sips of water and my IPA, so welcome after the walk down Marginal Way. Really, that time will be the vacation moment to remember. When the food arrived, it looked good. I had gotten the brisket and my wife got the lobster Mac and cheese. I liked the presentation of mine more than hers, but I could smell hers and it smelled very good. Brisket was VERY dry. Flavor of it was good, nothing super, though the sauce it was served with had a great flavor. The fried sage leaves on top were interesting. It kind of dominated the bite when you got a piece of one. I liked it on the first couple bites, but it quickly became overwhelming. It also had this grits concoction on the plate. Way too watery, and tasted like parmesan and butter with like one grit. In fairness, I'm not a huge fan of grits on a good day. My wife liked her lobster Mac and cheese a lot. I took a bite and I liked it too, but I'm more of a Buffalo Mac and cheese vs lobster. I didn't eat much and when the actress asked why, I did just tell her I wasn't that hungry, which was true. I basically never complain about food to the server. At the end of the visit, the waitress put the check in front of me and then kind of back pedaled and apologized for assuming and put it in the middle of the table. I find it odd that either she didn't pick up on the fact that we were married or that she thinks it really matters to a couple who is holding the check... Walking out, we had to go through a throng of staff at the bottom of the stairs again, a few of which definitely gave off the "This job would be great if it wasn't for the customers" vibe. It's off putting to see a crowd of staff even when when they all act like you're an old friend that haven't seen in years. Beer, mixed drink, 2 entrees, ~93 bucks. Not that bad when you realize your purchasing a moment, not the whole experience. That time sitting a d having a drink was worth the price of admission. We've already decided that next time in Ogunquit we will be looking for a new place to go for our fine dining night out. read more

This place is literally so bad, that it's been almost a year since we ate there and we still cant stop talking about how bad it was. Laughibly epically bad. My wife is currently slurping down a grilled salmon in an airport, and just exclaimed "even airports can cook a salmon, unlike that MC perkins place" .. its truly awful. The fact that this business is around is shocking. It's probably all tourists, because I cannot imagine any scenario where they would get repeat business. Ogunquit deserves better than this. It's become an overpriced tourist trap, which is sad because I have so many fond childhood memories coming here...avoid like the plague. We went for a special dinner for my birthday. It was fantastic. We had a great table by the window, our reservation was honored perfectly, we were seated right away. The waitress recommended a very good, reasonably priced bottle wine. We started with oysters. They were very very fresh and tasty. We then then had the crab cake and the watermelon salad. The salad was fine, was not really anything great, but it was fresh. But the Crab Cakes were amazing. So rich, tasty, and perfectly cooked. Some of best I have ever had. We ordered the tuna special. It was delicious. And I ordered the chicken. It was a simply prepared, roasted under a brick type thing... but it was so declicious. Came out perfectly hot, and really good. Really really tasty. The corn pudding and mashed potatoes were super decedent but really good. The service was great. The waitress was attentive and pleasant all night and the owner came over and chatted us up for a few minutes. He seemed genuninely happy we were enjoying our night. It was my birthday, and they brought out a nice Happy birthday desert with a candle... just a nice touch. View 10, Rude abrasive female manager 0. We are in for the season every year and have dined several times a month at M.C. The food is great the view a 10 and the bartenders and wait staff very nice. The female manager is nasty and abrasive. One visit she was literally threatening the waiters in front of us... super awkward! Another time we sat at the bar and she was berating the bartender tender for talking to our 25 year old daughter, just really strange. We were out for a family celebration and she managed to ruiAfter our meal I asked to speak with her and she was rude, dismissive and condescending. After years of being a loyal customer we will never go back as long as she is there. I am 60 years old and have been in the hotel and restaurant business for 30 years, 20 of these years as a manager. Table was directly under an air conditioner vent, needs some adjustments to redirect the airflow , it was cold ! I've been coming to MC Perkins since 2013. Tonight left a lasting impression worthy of comment. Very mixed feeling about the experience. The view is spectacular, the food is amazing and we had the opportunity to meet Clark, the ""C" in MC - so far so good.... Then we decide, as we are finishing our second glass of a delicious Cabernet that we will after all have dessert only to have the waitress tell us time is up - she had already told the management we were being given the check!!!! So $300 for the two of us to have lovely meal o Ly to be rushed out the door!!! Good riddance MC Perkins! The drive to Maine from Marblehead is not worth your lack of hospitality and the ranking of 3 is for you lack of manners offset by what is still very good food. Made reservations and requested outside dining. Reservation was taken and then later confirmed. When we showed up, we were told that outside dining was full. A manager said they would "never" guarantee outside reservations and they give those tables out first come first serve. He stated that a lot of people who make reservations don't show. I understand this policy during this very challenging time for restaurants. However, we should have been told this when we made reservations. My wife and I are still not comfortable dining inside at restaurants. I have dined at this restaurant many times. The food and staff have always been wonderful. read more

Beautiful view. Greeted immediately by most professional staff very attentive presentation phenomenal and taste profile was great way not a 5 star. Really the only issue was Sunday brunch crab cakes with slaw 3 for $19. Flavor was excellent but I swear on my mothers grave. 3 , each the size of a quarter and a tablespoon size serving on slaw . All other entrees where hearty and satisfying the 3 individuals that got the cakes all left hungry and went immediately up the street to That Place for a healthy and satisfying equally as gourmet bite. Recently I met a friend at MC Perkins for lunch. What a beautiful location with so much potential. If I were rating the space- it is a five star space and view! However- the food was mediocre and not as outstanding as the picture perfect view. My calamari was dry and the cornmeal crust underwhelming. My fish tacos lacked flavor and again the cornmeal breading was gritty and the dish lacked flavor. Our server was pleasant, but she didn't know the menu well, and she couldn't make any recommendations when we asked about the menu. I think MC Perkins has so much potential, but the menu needs to be reviewed and changes considered. read more

Untrustworthy. After researching we thought the menu was good and the prices reasonable. We also had a large party so we were given a room for all 13 of us, and it turns out they took advantage of that. They gave us a changed menu with inflated prices and limited options at first we didn't notice and decided to order. Soon after the meal our grandfather who was paying for everyone because this was his first vacation to the beach in a while. Me and my cousins are watching as his reaction turns empty and is shocked. Though the food was decent it was no where near being worth it's new price. Even the waiters and bus boys seemed nervous like this was some scheme. If you are looking to get nice seafood or just classic American food in this area of Maine, I urge you to go somewhere else where the food is worth every Penny you pay. read more

That's $5.00 a basket (a pretty freakin small basket). Sorry that is beyond tacky. Get your act together - what more can we do for you? Try making an effort for the very small window you even have to - July and August. Gorgeous views, delicious food and drinks, and attentive service! The views of the Maine coastline are breathtaking at this romantic restaurant. We took our 2 young kids, one of whom has food allergies, and the staff was extremely thorough and helpful in preparing her a safe meal. And our meals were delicious - the hangar steak with grilled romaine, feta and chimichurri was so good that I finished every last bite, and the champagne and wine were both terrific.
