WORD TO THE WISE - IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR TOENAILS, AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! Seriously though... This review is long overdue as my nightmare occurred back in October, but all the same... So I came here at the suggestion of my mom, who had a good experience with Mimi. I was super excited because we had been on the hunt for a new nail tech since ours had become less and less concerned with the quality of her work. I made an afternoon pedicure appointment with Mimi and was fortunate to have the salon mostly to myself, aside from a couple other ladies getting manicures. She was friendly and conversational, but she did not listen to my requests. A couple days prior, I had cut the nail on the side of both of my big toes after a long day at Disneyland made my feet sore. My nails grow round, so I don't have an issue with ingrown toenails, but the skin can cause rubbing in my tennis shoes. I let Mimi know ahead of time the areas were still a little tender, and asked her to avoid cutting in the area, as it didn't need it. She kind of acknowledged me, but then began trimming in the area anyway. I let her know it was tender (maybe there was a language barrier) and she said it needed it. I was apprehensive but let her continue and OMG... BIG MISTAKE. She put the nail clippers under the nail and hit the nail bed. Ladies, you all know how this feels... IT.WAS.HORRIBLE. She backed away at that point, but the damage was done. First and foremost, I was no longer relaxed, and was worried. for the rest of my appointment that she'd cause me more pain. In addition, the staff decided to have a meeting during business hours, with customers in the store with no regard to the fact that this distracted the nail techs from what they were doing. And this was at the request of the manager! Idiot... She even 'apologized' toward the end, like she knew it was an inconvenience, but clearly didn't care since she did it anyway. Once we were done, I was told that I could pay for the service by card, but not the tip... HUGE inconvenience not to be told ahead of time, particularly since I don't carry cash. Rather than accommodating me, they insisted I go get cash and come back. TALK ABOUT RUDE! I did, since my nails were cute, but left in a haste. Fast forward a month or so and I'm back at my regular salon (while not best in quality, they never hurt me). When we took off the polish, we were both horrified! The corners of both of my large toes where she hit the nail bed were purple and black! I.WAS.PISSED. And disgusted obviously. It didn't hurt however, so we went on with the pedicure as normal and I just assumed it'd heal on it's own. Oh man, boy was I wrong. I took off the polish myself about a month later and now half of my nail was completely black - both of them! When I went to trim them, the nail peeled back - she caused so much trauma to the nail bed that she killed the nails! Never have I ever had this happen. And to put it in perspective, today was the first time I've had a pedicure since then because my nails slowly peeled off as they grew out. ALMOST 6 MONTHS LATER. I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB, which I should've done already, but alas, life happens. Their reviews are already less than stellar, but hopefully their lack of professionalism is better highlighted in this review.
PS - If you're wondering, they take cash tips to avoid claiming the income on their taxes. Common practice for many in tip-based professions, as the IRS can't track cash, but it's still illegal. read more
