We were walking around the area and we found this food truck conveniently located at the Sparc apartment area. They weren't busy at all, so it's easy to just go up and order. We ordered our own bowls, but I mainly tried the crispy pork belly bowl. It didn't take too long for our order to be completed, so they were quite efficient! First opening the bowl, they had a variety of other things like corn, vegetables, etc. It's a nice balance in the bowl! My order also came with this dip that was pretty good, but I wasn't sure what it was lol. The crispy pork belly was very flavorful and the bowl itself was just a nice mix of everything. I will say this is a bit more on the oily side, but overall tasted pretty nice. Tastes very authentic! read more

I was getting groceries next door and decided to wander over to the Asian Street Food food hall for lunch, eventually settling on the Taiwanese biandang place, Lunch on the Plate. This seems to be the first B&M location for a food truck that roams around SLU. They sell a variety of different lunch boxes, with a kiosk in front of the stall for easy ordering. My food took about 10 minutes for them to fry up and assemble and soon I was digging in. Old School Fried Pork Chop Bento ($16.49) - They package food up in a plastic container with the lid on and tied in a plastic bag. I opened everything up as soon I as I picked up the food in order to preserve the freshly cooked texture. Upon opening the container, the strong fragrance of five spice and white pepper hits the nose, indicating liberal use on the two included pork chops. The pork chops are lightly breaded with coarse sweet potato starch and fried to a light crisp. They are exceptionally flavorful with the aforementioned spices and salt. There's a rim of fat along one side of each chop, conserving some of the moisture in the meat. The meat itself is not dried out or tough. On top of the fried pork chops, they scoop some minced preserved veggies, tangy, salty, and a bit spicy. Underneath the chops are a wide variety of vegetable based sides. There's corn in a butter and black pepper sauce, soft and tender stewed carrots, a mixture of cabbage, carrots, and black fungus, spinach, and finally half a marinated hard-boiled egg. This is all on a bed of perfectly cooked medium grain rice - fluffy but with a bite, allowing each individual grain to be felt. There's an excellent balance of protein, veggies, and rice, which is very well appreciated. Overall, the food feels more like home cooking rather than restaurant food, which is not a bad thing. It's probably way healthier and more nutritious than most restaurants around. (4/5) The food served at Lunch on the Plate is a bit on the pricey side, but portion sizes are pretty generous. It's a pretty good place to get a quick lunch after grocery shopping. Bathrooms - Larger ones as part of the food court. read more

I stopped by this truck in SLU for lunch on a Thursday. I came by around 1:20, so a little late for lunch, and there were not a ton of people (I've definitely seen dozens of people waiting around noon). I really appreciated that they have a self ordering screen, so I was able to quickly put in and pay for my order! My food was out within minutes, nice and warm. I grabbed chop sticks and napkins also conveniently left out. My entree had a pretty generous amount of non-rice. Cabbage, spinach, and corn, plus the egg and chicken made the meal pretty substantial! And of course it was quite flavorful. Lasted me two meals, and I will likely be back to try more food options! read more

Heard good things about them on social media so decided to try it out when they came around Esterra Park in Redmond. Went on a Friday afternoon, and the street parking around are all full. It wasn't clear if we could use the Garage parking but we did anyways. There was a small line when a few people continued showing up after. It took a while to get the food though, probably around half and hour, which imo is kind of slow for a food truck and just a few people. We got the Slow Braised Beef, Brasied Pork, Crispy Chicken Leg Quarter, Spicy Pepper Chicken and Braised Taiwanese Tofu. I have to say, the portion is not very large and the food is not that great. I got both the Bento box and the single dish, and I would recommend just going with the single dish orders. The price difference (around $7) is really not worth the difference in what you get. The slow braised beef is okay, not horrible, the braised pork sauce is probably the highlight, the crispy chicken leg quarter and spicy pepper chicken were again just okay. Just average. The braised taiwanese tofu was really bland and you get a few slices of tofu for $6.99. What? Anyways, I probably wouldn't come back again. If I wanted some yummy taiwanese chicken, I'd go to Monga Cafe. Much better value for the price and tastes better too. The service was fine, the food is lacking. read more

Legit taiwanese fried pork chops and chicken, sometimes difficult to find hours and locations that work since they are all over the place. I came here to get takeout when they were at the stone lounge in bellevue on a Sunday afternoon. The parking lot was not too full and there were 5 other customers. They don't have seating and we're not clearly marked. The service was good. The lady who took my order was kind and offered good recommendations. They were able to prepare the food in 10-15 minutes and completed my order well. The food itself was well seasoned and tasty. The owner had told me it wouldn't be soggy in an hr, but unfortunately at 40 minutes it was soggy so hard to give a complete review. I ordered the fried pork chop bento and a side of the spicy chicken. They were both well seasoned. The bento had corn, spinach, and a half a brown seasoned egg. The portion was decent and it was all served over warm rice. The side of spicy chicken was crispier as it was in a paper box and came with a sauce that was spicy and a little sweet. In combo it was a good amount of food for 2 people and satisfying though soggy. The price was a little high for a food truck, but probably average with inflation at around $15 a bento with the side being $7 so it came out to around $25 with tax. It wouldn't discourage me from coming back. Overall, well made delicious food, but a bit soggy for takeout and they don't really offer seating or places to eat there (except in your car). Reasonable prices, but difficult to track down. However, would recommend a taste with all things considered. The loss of a star is really due to the inconsistent location/times and lack of immediate eating space/ sogginess. read more

I heard a lot about this food truck and finally had a chance to try. It was across from Aloft hotel by entry of parking garage which was convenient. I got in line with people who picked and ordered. When it's my turn, I ordered an old school pork chop bento, spicy chicken bento, side pork chop and Taiwanese apple soda on the tablet and got a text for confirmation. Since it's raining, I waited in my car. After 25 minutes, I went to pick up at the same window. The staff was friendly and would double check my order. I really like spicy chicken and seasoning of pork chop but wish there was more seasoning flavor inside. It would be great if there are 2 separate windows for ordering and pick-up so everyone waited in one line. Overall, I will definitely try other bentos next time. read more

If you guys haven't tried out Lunch on the Plate, you guys are missing out! These Taiwanese bentos are absolutely authentic and super worth. Each rice bento comes with vegetables, eggs and let me say all the sides are wonderfully flavored and not bland at all. The flavors don't clash with each other either. I also got the Taiwanese style kimchi / pickled vegetables and they remind me of the vegetables we used to eat back when we went back to Taiwan. Definitely do not miss the chance to grab a bento. Took a flyer on this food truck when they were outside a Chinese cultural event. Order the fried chicken leg bowl. Chicken was honestly the best I've ever had. Wasn't even that hungry but my wife mine go back and order another chicken leg and a pepper chicken as well. The bowl itself was mixed good sauces (slightly sweet), with carrots, spinach, corn, and cabbage one rice. There was a shaokao station nearby and we ordered that as well but ended up liking this chicken much better, but used their cumin sauce for the chicken for a slightly spicier flavor. I had a braised pork bento. The pork and rice were great. They're described as being braised in a sweet sauce but, it did not taste particularly sweet to me. I believe one of the included vegetables was intended to be a pickle but, it was not particularly pickle-y. My favorite item was goofily enough the beans. The rice was also perfectly cooked. It was a filling balanced bento. They were out of some items on arrival. Would love to have the opportunity to try their famed chicken bento on another visit. Also, hopeful they establish some kind of online ordering portal. As other reviewers state their bentos are on the larger side. My one bento lasted me two meals. A value win. read more

When the food truck was at Esterra Park, we got the Braised Taiwanese Tofu Bento. I ordered this because I am vegan. It is marketed as "vegan" on their Instagram but as soon as we got an order we noticed an egg on top of the bento box. There was tofu along with a mysterious meat like substance. Not sure what it was, it looked like ham, so I didn't eat it. The tofu had a good flavor and texture. Overall it was bland. And not worth it for the price. My very-picky, Taiwan-born husband said he didn't have high expectations upon ordering, but we were both blown away by how delicious our food was. This was probably the best fried chicken I've had in years. He ordered the pork belly (lu ro, I think), his favorite and one his mom had perfected in her own kitchen, and was so happy with it. It's a lot of food for a pretty good price, given all the things driving prices up these days. The owner was very kind, as well. They've only been to Rooftop Brewery once since we moved here 7 months ago, and are in the Ballard area frequently. Good, delicious, reasonably priced. I liked that their bento boxes tried to add a little more variety in the bowl than most other bento/Taiwanese food trucks. They definitely cram a lot into a single bowl. First thing I do when I sat down was to start a little disassembly so I could get at all of the elements. Flavors are on point. Definitely pretty close to the flavors I grew up with. I had the pork chop bento and it wasn't terribly soggy (due to being in the container). I don't think there's any way to keep it really crispy unless it was served on a plate. Containers just trap moisture. For lunch, I thought it was a pretty reasonable amount of food. I love rice (I know) so I liked that at the end of the meal I felt like there was an uneven amount of entree+side to rice ratio. At the same time, that might mean that for the average person that might be too much rice. They're a relatively new truck (as of Dec 2020) so I'm looking forward to see what they do for their menu. I hadn't heard of Lunch on the Plate until a few weeks ago when one of my friends posted a picture of one of their dishes online. The food looked SO delicious that I knew I had to try it. It definitely lived up to the visuals; I've tried most of the dishes by now and they're all great, but I would say that the spicy pepper chicken is my favorite by far. The quantity is reasonable for the amount you pay - the dishes range from around ~$10-$12 and I'm always stuffed by the time I'm finished. A couple of recommendations that would bump my rating up to 5 stars: - Advance ordering: Currently, there's no way to order in advance. Customers have to physically go to the truck, place an order, and wait (~10 mins). It would save patrons time if an online or phone ordering system was implemented. - Create a website: The truck's weekly schedule is only posted on Instagram and Facebook. I know some people who I'd love to recommend this place to, but they don't have social media. A website would make schedule information more accessible to everyone. - Add more truck lighting: The first time we visited the truck, it was parked on a dark street with the ordering window facing away from us towards the sidewalk. We almost drove past it as it legitimately looked like a storage truck from the street side, and the truck's name was barely visible in the darkness. Adding more lighting on the back of the truck would definitely be helpful for visibility. - Consistent schedule: I totally get that Lunch on the Plate is a newer truck, and that scouting out and scheduling locations is likely a huge endeavor. But since the truck's location changes day-to-day and week-to-week, it's difficult for individuals and families who like to plan in advance to map out their meal schedules. It would be great if eventually customers knew that the truck will always be parked at a location at a certain time on X day of the week or X day of the month (for example). I'm loving the great Taiwanese food that's been popping up around the Seattle area these past few years, and Lunch on the Plate is no exception. Hoping it succeeds and does well! read more

The bowl is a good size for a meal, filling without being too much.Chicken leg bento had a good assortment of veg (roast corn, greens, a little kimchi), a half egg, and rice. Chicken was crispy and salty and juicy with a sauce that is thick, sweet, and a little spicy with fried garlic on the side. Since it's my first try I don't know if the sauce is always an option, but it's delicious! I got a side of Kimchi as well, it's more vinegary and only the tiniest bit spicy. I didn't notice the spice at all in the bowl, probably as it was mixed with rice. The woman taking orders was nice and efficient. I ordered the side of "Crispy chicken leg quarter" The woman helping me asked three separate times if that's what I really wanted. "Yes, I want the side portion because I'm not very hungry" I then go sit down and wait for a text saying my food is done. Twenty minutes later, no text. I go to the truck and she tells me that she charged me for the bento plate, which I didn't want as I don't like their version of bento. She offered to refund but I would have to repurchase the side. At this time I'm close to having to leave for an appointment and I'm tired of repeating myself so I take the bento. Ate the chicken, threw the bento away and left. Today I have two charges from Lunch on the Plate. One for $18.18 and another for $21.82. No one is answering the phone. 1 out of five stars.
