    Seasonal Jam Frybread
    Jade G.

Always delicious, fast and filling. I love the braised bison tacos as they are jam packed with flavor. The servers are always personable and kind. The ambience is a little loud and lively sometimes because the museum and a lot of little kids but it's nice for a simple lunch.

Delicious Frybread. I've had the Frybread with preserves, the taco frybread, and the Powwow burger (the latter is not on the cafe menu but at the food truck). I hope they expand to have another brick and mortar store outside of the Burke museum so there's another place to get the burger. I love that they are at the Burke museum (great museum to visit in the PNW), great place to sit, eat, and chat while at the museum. Appears quite clean. I've also been to the food truck at Stoup brewery. Love the cafe and the staff both at the cafe and the food trucks are awesome.

We had the beef chili and bison tacos - I preferred the bison (more flavorful than expected) but both were good. We also had the sweet fry bread with lemon curd which added a good tart sweetness. I had the cedar blackberry tea latte which I didn't like. I didn't think the milk added well to the tea flavor.

This place is definitely a hidden gem on the uw campus. Located right in the Burke Museum they are serving up fried bread. You can choose from sweet or savory versions and I got the bqq pulled pork. This was sooo good and super juicy. The pulled pork was soft and oily but the coleslaw balanced it out perfectly. The fried dough was fluffy too. This place is perfect when you want a quick snack or a lunch. It's also great to study or work here!! Great ambiance and when it's warm outside, they will open the patio windows!

The Burke Museum is obviously beautiful, so it's a treat to have such a good cafe as well. Seating was a bit tricky, but we were still able to grab a spot at the high table by the windows for a group of 5. The food was great and fresh and the latte with huckleberry wasn't too sweet. The food came out pretty quickly, which was a plus.

    Seasonal Jam (Passionfruit Jam) Frybread

If the seasonal jam is passion fruit jam you better get the Seasonal Jam Frybread! best thing i have had this year so far, it made me so happy. i love this place so much and i always find something new i like. the employees are always nice too.

I love Indian fry bread, and haven't had any in a long time, especially since they're not too easy to find. I already had lunch, so when the food truck came to our building, I still had to try a fry bread. I got one with the seasonal jam, which was passionfruit curd. Fry bread was yummy. Definitely want to try with the other fruit jams or honey. Also want to try the tacos next time. Service was quick and friendly.

We decided to visit Off the Rez during the U District Cherry Blossom Festival, excited to try their food after eating mostly mediocre frybread on a recent trip to Utah. This cafe is located inside the Burke Museum but has a separate door next to the museum entrance, making it easy to access. There's no need to walk through the museum or pay admission. Beef Chili Indian Taco ($7.50) - I wondered why the price was so cheap, given that basically no meals in Seattle are this affordable, not to mention that most Indian Tacos I've eaten in the Great Plains region are more expensive. Then it came out and I saw that this is essentially a miniature Indian Taco, served on a piece of frybread perhaps only 5 inches in diameter. Starting with the frybread base - it's very light in terms of both weight and richness of the dough. There's a decently crunchy exterior, where the elements with moisture don't contact the bread. The puck has a hollow dimple in the center - almost like they flatten the dough by hand and place more pressure in the middle from the palm, causing it to flatten out into a saucer shape and allowing air to puff it up like pita when frying. Surrounding the hollow center is a ring of chewy, but light and fluffy dough. Still, it's much thinner than other frybreads I've eaten and doesn't give enough of that fried dough bite that I so enjoy. On top of the fry bread is beef chili that has plenty of ground beef and beans. It's savory and a tiny bit spicy. They then pile shredded cheddar cheese and lettuce on top, following by pickled onions and a spicy, but cooling drizzle of smoky chipotle sauce. Overall, this Indian taco somehow just feels healthy and light, I guess par for the course in this area given the health conscious attitudes here. The Indian Tacos I've eaten from elsewhere in the country, I could barely finish a single taco, but this one, I feel like I could down at least three. I do have to say this dish is kind of hard to eat in the small boat it's served in. Cutting into the taco with the provided plastic knife is very messy, making the lettuce fly around, landing outside of the boat. (4/5) Seasonal Jam Frybread ($6) - During the U District Cherry Blossom festival, Off The Rez served a Cherry jam frybread. Very sweet and tangy jam and their frybread base. Not much else to say. (3/5) Honey Frybread ($6) - Honey always works so well with fry bread and this one is no exception. Drizzled with plenty of honey, yet still leaving some parts of the fry bread untouched to allow the natural taste and texture of the bread to come through. The honey is sweet, but not sweet enough to completely overpower the frybread, unlike the cherry jam. (4/5) I'm used to eating frybread that's much heavier on the stomach, probably made with copious amounts of lard. The frybread Off the Rez serves seems to be Seattle-fied, being very light and not very filling. It's not bad at all, it's just a different style of frybread I haven't had before and is basically a snack instead of an entire meal. Bathrooms - None in the cafe itself, but plenty in the museum.

The BBQ Pulled Pork Indian Taco was super satisfying--tender, saucy pork layered on warm, golden frybread. The frybread itself is the real MVP: crisp on the outside, soft and chewy inside. I followed it up with the Sweet Frybread with Strawberry Jam, which was simple but hit the spot in the best way. Their latte was solid--smooth, not too strong, just a good cup of coffee. The cedar blackberry tea latte though... not for me. It sounded interesting but the flavors didn't land. Still, for a cozy, Indigenous-owned café tucked inside the Burke Museum serving up frybread like this, it's 100% worth a visit.

Vegan review: Not a good spot for vegans. The fry bread itself is not vegan as it has milk powder in it. For food, you can either get the veggie chilli Indian tacos with corn tortillas instead of fry bread or the quinoa salad. For the coffee drinks it's a +$1 for soy, almond, or oat milk. I got the OTR Cedar Blackberry Tea Latte with oat milk. The latte had an earthy flavor to it, though I couldn't specifically tell it was cedar and blackberry? I liked it, but it didn't blow me away and I wouldn't go back for it again. For $5.55 I'd rather get something else to drink. In terms of ambience, the restaurant has high ceilings with industrial style decor. The floor to ceiling windows give a view to the museum interior and the parking lot. The trees are so tall and beautiful though, you really don't notice the cars. The restaurant is attached to the Burke Museum, but you don't need to purchase tickets to access it. If you are visiting the museum though, keep in mind you can't walk around with food or drinks. There is wifi available and this feels like it would be a good study spot with nice views. I visited on a weekday evening, and it was pretty empty. I can also definitely appreciate that the museum is committing to supporting indigenous businesses.

We came to the Burke museum for the first time and found Off the Rez has a cafe here! I'd heard of their food truck so I was excited to finally try it out. It's located at the entrance of the museum so you dont have to pay to go into the cafe, but the parking lot is on campus so you have to pay unless it's Sunday. I went with the bbq pulled pork Indian taco while my husband ordered the classic chili Indian taco. The bbq pulled pork was perfect, and I really like the fluffy frybread. One taco alone is actually pretty big and quite filling. The chili one had that classic chili flavor that mixed with the slaw and sauces in this frybread taco really nicely and I would definitely get another one based on taste alone.

Sweet fry bread w/ passionfruit jam ($5)

Four of us were visiting the cherry blossoms at the University of Washington Quad and needed a little mid-morning snack. This small café is located at the Burke Museum and was bustling on this particular Saturday. They offer a small menu of breakfast options, Indian (Native American) tacos, sides and sweets. Many of the items feature their homemade fry bread. We each ordered a SWEET FRY BREAD ($5) which came with a choice of lemon curd, honey, cinnamon sugar, Nutella or jam (strawberry or seasonal). When I heard the seasonal option was passionfruit, I went with that. Our four pieces of bread with topping totaled $22 (including tax), which is quite pricey. A single piece of bread without toppings costs $4. The bread is served hot and fresh right out of the fryer. It was soft inside with a nice chewy exterior and surprisingly tasted just like a donut! The cup of passionfruit jam had the consistency of a thin sauce and I dipped bites of bread into it. While it was on the sweeter side, the ripe passionfruit flavor shined. The others in my group enjoyed the lemon curd and cinnamon sugar on their bread. On separate occasions, my sister had their bison tacos (which use fry bread instead of tortillas) and their chili, both of which she enjoyed. I would love to try either of those the next time I visit. Considering how busy it was, our order was ready pretty quickly in under 10 minutes. Unfortunately, other than that, I wouldn't consider the service to be that great. The cashier was basically expressionless when he processed our order, and same with the employee who called out to us when our food was ready. No smile nor energy from either of them, so I'm not sure what was going on. I hope they were just having an off day. Despite Off the Rez being located on the college campus, this appears to be a spot that both students and non-students enjoy.

BISON INDIAN TACO - $7.80 - Braised Bison, cheddar, shredded lettuce, crema and pickled onions. Served on handmade frybread.

However, it still tasted like it had a really nice flavor, and had a soft interior. It being actually spicy would've moved this dish up a lot, though each taco was primarily made out of this chicken - and there was so much of it it was practically insane - but I loved this amount shoutout to the onions as well - they were great I asked for the habanero sauce - which i thought was ok - wasn't spicy at all and didn't add much flavor. will go with another sauce next time tried mixing in some taco bell fire sauce which was interesting i love that these came wrapped in aluminium foil to preserve heat. a great touch overall, as far as taste, these were pretty good, but when you consider the amount of meat you're getting, along with overall portion size - it's simply a fantastic meal.
