This review would be 4-stars if it weren't for delivery. The food is good. Had a veggie pie, fried calamari, stuffed garlic knots (which are basically ham and cheese sliders), a chicken Caesar salad, and veal parm with a side salad. The pizza was fine, the salads were good, I liked the calamari though my dad said it was "too bready and overcooked," and my favorite was the veal. Delivery came on time. However, I guess the buzzer wasn't working and the person didn't think to call my cell phone??? He just left the food OUTSIDE...in the middle of a few-hundred unit apartment complex. I have to admit, Luigi's is a solid local pizzeria that I had never visited in all of my years in the area. They serve the typical cheese and specialty (ex: buffalo chicken, bbq chicken, white pizza, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella) pizza slices that most pizzerias in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood sell these days. My wife and I came in on cool Saturday evening at 7pm and there weren't many customers inside, but the employees were still very friendly. We took a quick look at the pizza slices and we both got 2 each. My wife went with the fresh mozzarella and buffalo chicken, while I got the white pizza and bbq chicken. Like I said, it was solid and I was surprised at how fresh tasting the pizza was after heating, despite it probably sitting outside for hours. In addition, the flavors on all of the pizzas were really good - the fresh mozzarella had good tang, the buffalo chicken was one of the better buffalo chicken slices I had in a while, the white pizza was very cheesy and the bbq chicken was interesting, but I loved the combination. There was nothing else really special about the pizzeria, other than the fact that the employees were relatively friendly, which unfortunately IS a surprise these days at local restaurants. One of the better pizzerias on Avenue U. They've been around for decades and have been pretty consistent in their products. I came in near closing because I had a craving for garlic knots and the worker there was kind enough to get a new batch started for me since there were only 4 pieces left for the day. They don't have anything unique or a signature like what you would find in the city, but for a pizzeria deep in Brooklyn, they serve their purpose well. I like the chicken rolls which are always fresh and crispy . The owner always lets you know that he appreciates your business . Luigi is our go-to pizza shop when we are craving a nice slice of cheese pizza! Prices aren't too steep and the pizzas here are pretty good! With a purchase over $30 (I think) you get a free bottle of soda which is always nice to have. A cheese pie here is $16 so $2 a slice but in comparison to other pizza shops in the area, I'd pay a little more to have a better slice than just an okay slice. I've had their garlic knots here as well- aside from it being just VERY oily, it comes in a decent size and good to have once in a while. read more

Terrible delivery experience. My boyfriend and I ordered from Luigi at 10:15pm, and our order arrived at 11pm - 45 mins. being completely acceptable for me, so that's not where my complaints begin. We ordered the following things: A large cheese pizza, spinach roll, caesar salad, garlic knots, rice ball, and zeppoles. The pizza was solid. It was decent Brooklyn pizza. I'd give it a 3/5. There was nothing particularly bad about it, but nothing particularly great about it either. A decent slice, that became more solid once I chopped up some fresh basil, ground some fresh black pepper, and grated some Parmesan cheese. You really shouldn't have to go through such measures for a decent slice, but after ordering an entire large pie - you gotta do what you gotta do to make it enjoyable. The spinach roll was awful. The spinach tasted metallic. It left the taste of a handful of pennies in my mouth. The spinach was either canned and/or overcooked, and Luigi's makes one of the worst mistakes you could possibly make with spinach rolls - the spinach wasn't chopped! So you take a bite of the roll, and pull out an entire wad of 6 inch long pieces of spinach with each bite. Quite uncouth. There was no ricotta in the roll, which isn't a necessity, but is usually a nice extra touch, but the mozzarella in the roll, and the zeppole-tasting dough couldn't make up for the terrible spinach. Shame. The caesar salad tasted quite good. Kudos on the dressing. But the reality is that my order of salad was little more than a foil container full of chopped romaine lettuce, 5 or 6 croutons, and dressing. That really isn't a caesar salad. I went out of my way to shred my own Parmesan into it, grind my own pepper, add lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce - I pretty much paid $6 for a bowl of lettuce with some dressing, and did everything else myself. The garlic knots were good. They were very garlicky, which I enjoy. The dough was soft and chewy. They tasted as they should, and the marinara sauce that came with them was very tasty as well. No complaints there. The rice ball was AWFUL. It was mostly breading. As nice of a size as it was (I'd say about 5 inches in diameter), there was no rice in it! It was about 80% breading, and 20% actual rice and filling. What a disappointment. It didn't taste particularly bad, but I didn't pay for a breading ball, I paid for a rice ball, and it's one of the worst I've ever had. The zeppoles might've been the biggest disappointment. They were cold, hard, and tough. I tried microwaving them to a warm and edible consistency, but they just ended up as chewy as car tires. Plus - huge pizzeria no-no when it comes to zeppoles - they should be COVERED in powdered sugar, and there was hardly any. Long story short, I will more than likely not order from here again. Far too many disappointments, and not enough positive points. The plain slices were ok, and everything else left way too much to be desired. I'd definitely suggest trying another pizzeria in the area if that's what you're craving. read more

I've heard about the bad pizza, but personally have never tried it. Too busy loving the chicken and shrimp parm heroes and the pasta bolognese! Those are so delicious that we haven't really explored the menu because we always crave the sandwiches. The pasta is a great value and I usually like to save part of my portion for lunch the next day. The heroes are amazing. The bread is so soft and the perfect amount of chewy. The spices/sauces that are in the hero just taste so good together. I love the shrimp parm with good shrimp that has a good crunch. Repeatedly saying that he's double-parked. I speculate that he's just trying to make up time from being late to his other deliveries. Nonetheless, I start walking towards the elevator from the other end of the hallway. Two steps into walking towards him, he puts the pizza right on the floor. Had to go inside a second time because the guy "forgot" to cut my slice in half. Then when he cut it he missed. The slice was a 30/70 ratio. The slice overall lacked flavor.
