I recently experienced Lucky Dog for the first time. I have passed by a couple of their locations frequently, but never stopped. I had a taste for hot dogs and my curiosity for the best of me. As I entered the restaurant, I was surprised by the size of it. I was greeted promptly and with a smile. I explained that this was my first visit, and the employee told me to ask if I had any questions regarding the menu. The menu selection was also surprisingly large There was also a very nice selection of beverages to choose from. I placed my order and it didn't take long at all. I had a long drive home. Had my first-ever Lucky Dog experience. Typical fare for a local hot dog/beef place. I went with an Italian beef and it was pretty good and had a balanced ratio of juice and bread to keep it steady. Tried some of the gyro and it was also decent. Fries are crinkle cut, mostly crispy, and better with a side of cheese. Drinks are Pepsi products with Dr. Pepper available. We did not wait long to have our order taken and made. We ate there and plenty of good seats were available. Gaming machines were tucked away in the back near the counter. Lots of Vienna Beef posters on the walls. They have a drive thru. read more

Lucky Dog is a quick neighborhood restaurant to come and grab some food while running errands or something simple to eat. I have been coming to this location in Berwyn for years and it has definitely changed for the worse. The food is ok and the customer service is terrible. The ladies at the drive thru always seems to have an attitude or getting your order messed up. The prices are constantly going up. FYI: Please make sure to check you order before speeding off. I keep in simple and safe by ordering the 2 steak tacos and fries. I have tried the beans and rice and it wasn't good. There are other locations that I have tried as well and the food is even worse. In the Oak Park area there are two excellent drive-thrus (the other being Mr. Beef which has its own strong points). My favorite thing on the menu is the chicken soft taco, even though I never expected it to be. I ordered it on a whim, but I have to say their green salsa is excellent and the chicken is delicious. We often get the cheese burger, chicago dog and cheese curds in our order, and they never miss. Also their italian ice is quite good. read more

Upon arrival there's was a long line to begin with.... slow, but I mean super slow... but, we were willing to wait. We approach to order. Mind you I'm in the passenger side my wife is about to order when she gets a "hold on" ghetto to begin with and moments later, "what you want" I'm think is this fool really talking to my wife like that. She's done ordering with a "that's all thank you" and he's like "move up" I'm like dude?!?! But, we can't there is a line where do we go right and he's like "you forgot something", no I'm just looking at your menu while I await to move while these cars move. "You have space, move up" I was going to let the manager know (and I wasn't going to let that go either) but after 10 mins of still waiting to pay and get our order and let them know. We told them TWICE to make a cheese dog with fries and a large pepsi and a chicken with pickles and mayo only. They put tons of cheese, which I am quite allergic to, all over my sandwich. Never gave mom the pepsi she ASKED FOR TWICE. My mom and I called back and the manager or whoever answered was snippy and rude and barely even wanted to do the minimum. She got mad at us for "asking for free food" when we were driving for 3 hours to begin with and would have to go back there to get the food remade when they could've doordashed it to us. The food here is not what it used to be. I just got back from there and it's Sunday. You could not eat in the restaurant only drive thru. I ordered the number 9. When I got my food I looked in bag and noticed the fries were not there. I asked the guy at the window and he states they are wrapped with the sand which. I took his word and drove off. However after driving for 2 minutes I checked and there wasn't anything wrapped in with the sand which. So I go back and tried to get in but doors were locked. Along Harlem avenue in Berwyn sits an eatery called The Lucky Dog. I've passed it on numerous occasions but up until recently hadn't had the opportunity to stop by. In walking in the first thing that I noticed is that it's quite a bit larger on the inside than it appears from the outside there's two counters to order, one for regular food and a second one for ice cream. The inside reminds me a bit of the older decor for Portillo's or Buona Beef. In visiting The Lucky Dog I decided to go for a hot dog with fries. The hot dog here came on a classic Chicago style poppy seed bun. The bun was a little on the dry side and was actually had a cracked a bit on the side. There was a long pickle spear that wasn't too sour. A chunk of tomato which unfortunately was not long enough to get tomato in every bite. There were a pair of sport peppers on the dog, mustard, relish and no detectable celery salt. The overall combination was pretty good but far from perfect, the biggest problem with this hot dog was the somewhat dry and cracked bun. It also came with some long crinkle cut fries. These fries weren't particularly salty nor did they have a tasty potato paste on the inside, they were just kind of bland. If I were to return and get fries I'd get a cup of cheese or something to give these more flavor. Overall I liked The Lucky Dog, I found it to be an above average place to get a Chicago style hot dog and would recommend stopping if you happen to pass by it. Hopefully my experience was representative of the food there most of the time and that I wasn't simply a Lucky Dog myself. I'm going to give The Lucky Dog four stars and a recommendation if you happen to be nearby. read more

Lucky Dog is highly recommended! The best place to go if you want some hot dogs, burgers, gyros, and other sandwiches. Their menu is full of amazing and affordable offers. I ordered some of their beef sandwiches, fries, and mozzarella sticks. Everything was delicious and quality. They are also way cheaper than other fast food spots around the area. Their location is very accessible and they are also near other popular places. You can visit them anytime you want. But I recommend getting a reservation first before you visit. Lucky Dog is a busy place and most of the time full of customers, so it is nice if you are going to book a reservation first. Their employees here are kind, attentive, and professional. They treat the customers right and know how to do their job properly. Very helpful and decent staff. I would love to go back here again because of their awesome offers but also because their staff and their service are really good. Can't wait to explore their menu and try their new offers. I actually like Lucky Dog. I used to be in the area quite a bit from 2004 - 2010. Now obviously I will not drive over an hour to get a hot dog, but some days I'm pretty tempted to. They have a good sized menu with different options, but I always get the hot dog "dragged thru da garden" with fries. I like their fries; they are the crinkle-cut style, and I've never had them be over salted, over cooked, etc. I've never had an issue with the hot dogs, either. Maybe I'm just "lucky." I've both dined in and gone through the drive-thru. It doesn't really matter because service seems to be the same no matter which route you choose. read more

January 2017 Update: In a past review, I wrote that Lucky Dog was better than typical fast food, with some of the best sandwiches in the area. This may still be true, but now there are also a lot of other options. The service here is still friendly, and it's a convenient location if you live in the area. But nothing much has changed here over the years. The only thing new at Lucky Dog is the addition of slot machines, which kinda makes the place look sad. Sorry, but my gyro doesn't as good when I have to watch sad gambling addicts piss their lives away. As if Berwyn wasn't depressing enough anyway. I still go here from time to time. It is close to my house. But really, I feel like fast food should be more fun than this. read more

Ah, Berwyn. I should have guessed the experience quality that I was about to embark on when there's a passed out Polish guy in a track suit in front of an establishment. My chili cheese dog was good; though I wasn't thrilled with the sliced American cheese that didn't bother to melt on my dog. The fries were meh. I usually don't leave reviews but this had to be done .I live relatively close to this location and decided to get something since they are ALWAYS super busy . I got the charbroiled chicken sandwich and it was absolutely disgusting. The bun was hot&soggy - steaming hot I couldn't even hold the sand which I had to let it cook ! It's As if it were microwaved ..def not toasted or put on the grill that's for sure. The chicken wasn't great either . Very dry with a super strong lemon after taste . We went here recently. It was close. I haven't lived in Chicago for very long. I'e been hunting around for Italian Beef. I got a combo from here and it was rockin'. I've had some good ones and i've had some really crappy ones, (I know, right?). The combo I had at Lucky Dog was really very good. The meat was hot, paper thin, and nicely flavored. They did not skimp on hot peppers. It was dipped. The sausage was spicy and cooked just right, apparently. It was a rather large sammich, so I had to save about half for later. Staff was friendly enough and it seemed clean to me. This place is def worth checking out. read more
