Dropped in randomly on a Sunday afternoon for dinner. This place had been on our radar for a while so why not get some grub. Wasn't aware you need a reservation - as it comes recommended. However the female bartender found us a table in the back. Thank goodness it was only two of us. Our server Chloe quickly greeted us and got our orders. But overall delicious. The kale salad is fresh and I'd eat it for a nice lunch. The chopped brisket was good but the portion size for a platter was small. I felt I would've been able to make just one sandwich. Most bbq places offered a platter worth for filling your stomach with leftovers. The Brussels were decent and the Cajun smashers gave loaded potato vibes. Didn't taste the Cajun. We were still hungry and ordered the giant wings. They came four for $15. I went with my family for a Memorial Day weekend meal, and I was looking forward to some ribs. I ordered the ribs, which came as a half slab with two sides. I got waffle fries and cornbread. The ribs looked okay when they came out, but when I tried to tear off a rib for myself, I was unable to because it was so tough. Generally, ribs come with a knife, but it is to keep your fingers clean, not because it is necessary. I needed the knife to cut these ribs. They were not smoked long enough or at all, it seemed. When I bit into it, it tasted like a dry, fatty pork chop, which is not what I want from a rack of ribs. The fries were nice and crispy, but the cornbread was very dry and served with a scoop of butter placed sloppily next to it, honey butter touching the ribs. For dessert, we were looking forward to the skillet cookie with ice cream, but they were out of ice cream and could only bring the cookie out, which was a sub-par chocolate chip cookie that was overcooked. The banana pudding was fine, but not special, like something you'd find at the grocery store. The berry cobbler was good. I do not plan to return to this restaurant, the ribs alone ruined it for me!!! read more

This place is a real gem. Great vibe and atmosphere. Really friendly and attentive staff all around. And the food is excellent. First time there I had the brisket sandwich. Given the seeming dearth of genuine barbecue in Chicago, I am far from knowledgeable. But this was REAL barbecue. Not the stuff that other places in Chicago try to pass off as bbq. Get some roast beef and slather on barbecue sauce. This beef had definitely seen the inside of a smoker. The cottage fries that went with it were absolute perfection. Fried potatoes I know about. Take out order on a Sunday night. Brisket plate without much in the way of brisket for $25 was insulting. There were 2 slices of brisket, after a rather fatty strip was 1/4 of the slice was removed ends up looking more like an appetizer at best. The side dishes which ironically are supposed to be, well, "sides" far outweigh the main part of this dish. The pulled pork platter isn't that much better, and would not even make for one sandwhich at most bbq restaurants. The meaty beans and the kale salad both were good however. Additionally, the pretzel appetizer, along with two other sides of onion rings and slaw completed the meal. At $60.08 for mostly side dishes with a sample of meats overshadowed the experience by far. We usually go to Fitzgeralds Sidebar and have cocktails and some Po Boys with extras while there. this past Friday we decided to order Po Boys plus for a family member that just came out of hospital and wanted to sample some southern cooking. We picked up the orders and after opening we noticed that it wasn't up to the quality standards we were used to getting when at the bar. My wife called and talked to staff and Mgr Robin called and apologized and said they would comp the meal. We had Sunday brunch. Bloody was tasty - garnish could be elevated. Had shrimp & grits - 5 medium sized shrimp & over easy eggs both completely over cooked which was unfortunate.
