So I have to admit this was my first Chicago style hot dog... And I don't know why the rest of us have been doing it so boring. Putting a whole salad on a hot dog takes what could have been a guilty fast food meal and makes it feel fresh and dare I say, healthy? The peppers were such a great kick and the I also appreciated that the relish was NOT sweet! Both a pickle spear and dill relish on the same dog? Yes ma'am! My friend who grew up here had the protip of getting a cup of cheese for the fries, why not? I just ate so many veggies! We also got an Italian beef with sweet peppers to split. I have had Italian beef before, so this wasn't a new flavor, but it's been awhile, and when I tell you I didn't remember the beef being so flavorful. I think next time I would get it with hot peppers, but the sweets weren't bad. Get a lemon ice if it's warm out, it was smooth and tart and a great finish to a great meal to round out my Chicago trip! read more

Ordered a combo juicy with sweet peppers. This order came with fries and a drink. The combo was full of beef and the Italian sausage had a great flavor. Juicy as I expected add that pepper in a bite and it was layered in flavor. Fries were hot and delicious. Service for my order was fast but I imagine depending on what you order being they cook fresh some items will be a minuet or two. Also I noticed police frequently eat there so it has to be good. As to parking I am a tad fussy as to spacing of parking space so I was not to thrilled about parking but that's me. Overall parking was available and the lot moved in out fast due to the speed of service. There are tables in the restaurant so you can sit in to eat. I enjoyed my experience and recommend Pete's in Oak Park. There is a second Pete's but have not stopped there. Which is funny I pass that Pete's 2 all the time when I am in the area. read more

Iconic, classic Chicago hot dog stand. All drive through, dogs made the way they're supposed to be and excellent French fries. I've moved out of state, so I pay whatever it costs to get great Chicago food staples. However, Pete's was really reasonable. Seating is a couple of picnic benches out front and they could use an update - but that was all part of the charm. Plenty of parking, fast, value priced and excellent. Highly recommend. read more

Have to give this 4 out of 5. There beef is one of the best I ever had. The only reason they don't get a 5 star is the Italian sausage lacks some flavor and needs to be grilled more. Thebplace is small but has some benches for indoor or outdoor eating. The service is really fast and you are in and out very quickly. At the time of writing this. Finally made the stop here for an Italian beef. This place has been on my beef list for quite some time and I was somewhat in the area so I stopped. I ordered a beef hot to go. That's it. The beef made about a 30 minute drive home with me. Upon unwrapping the sandwich I could see it still looked wonderful. Now taste time..........Wow! It was excellent. The beef,giard,bread.Wow again. Seasoning was spot on. I now see why so many love it. This beef is hovering at my top 5. That good. With a welcoming mom and pop vibe this place just reeks of 90's classic restaurant. The service was above expectations and the turn around time was mine blowing. So to me the star of the show at this place for me is the Italian beef. Their Italian beef is top tier. I'd have to say they are definitely in my top 3 of beef's in Chicago. They have one of the best chicken salads around! I was bummed when my former spot in Greek Town closed that I would get them from but now I'm back happy! This place has been around forever but I've never tried their chicken salad until recently and I'm hooked. The salad is a very nice size and two people can easily share. You get plenty of grilled chicken and fresh vegetables. Come with a piece of Italian bread and butter. Definitely my go to spot for a chicken salad. read more

Was there today. Hadn't been there in awhile. Disappointing. Gyros sandwich had much less meat than usual and pita bread mushy and obviously spent 0 time on the grill as no "crisp"to it or a some brown marks as if they didn't warm it up so tasted almost raw if that makes any sense. And whole sandwich seemed much smaller. Mushrooms which are normally very good were with very little breading and the coating that was there was burnt. Ordered gyro meal, cheeseburger meal , and hot dog special for the family. The gyro was at best 1/5. The tzatziki sauce tasted like watered down sour cream. The burger was made incorrectly and after returning it was still undesirable. The hotdog was fine. The fries were overcooked. I will not be back. Today I was looking for somewhere new for a gyro... my usual places have been lacking in quality. nobody has all three: good cucumber sauce, good meat, and good service. Today I found all of the above. The sauce was soooo good, I just wish there was more of it. I'll definitely ask for extra next time. Only complaints are that the pita bread was super thin and didn't taste fresh. It was crunchy in spots. And that they don't put any salt on the fries. Pete's Red Hot's ma old stompin grounds back in Da day when I lived out yonder in Oak Park is on da corner of Roosevelt & Ridgeland kiddie corner to dat big ole Turano's bakery. I was headin on Home afta da meetin tryin ta find me sum vittles as I shore was hongry. Pete's has been on this corner since 1980 serving fast food meal combinations for a decent price. I've eaten at Pete's many times before when I lived in Oak Park. I haven't been here for quite a few years so I was a bit surprised by the jump up in prices. I guess everyone needs to make money. I was just talkin to a buddy about their Grecian Chicken & it shore is good. You can get a 1/2 a Grecian Chicken meal for $9.99 that comes w/rice or fries (I chose the rice) a salad & a piece of French bread (probably from Turano's).
