We recently tried The Original Chickies and had a mixed--but overall decent--experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, which definitely made a positive impression right away. The cheeseburger was okay, but the patty was smaller than expected and could have used a bit more seasoning to really stand out. It wasn't bad, just a little underwhelming compared to other spots. The loaded fries were a highlight--topped with cheese, Italian beef, and fresh jalapeños. They were flavorful and absolutely massive, easily a meal on their own. We also had the breaded steak sandwich, which was decent but could have used some jalapeños for extra flavor. Portion-wise, it was very generous and easily enough for two people to share. The chicken fingers were just okay--good size, but again, a bit more seasoning would have helped. The mushrooms were solid, and the onion rings were better than most--big and crispy--but there were quite a few broken pieces. We also tried the famous cannoli shake, which tasted exactly like you'd expect--a cannoli in liquid form. If you like cannolis, you'll probably enjoy it. Overall, not a bad spot with generous portions and friendly service, but some items--especially the burgers--could use a bit more flavor and a larger patty to really stand out. read more

Had one final opportunity to try a Chicago Italian Beef sandwich before my wife and I headed back to California from our Chicago visit. So decided to stop-in to Chickies (very close to our aunt's home) for carryout during our final night. It's large inside for dining in, and has a classic Chicago-style set-up. You order and pay for your food first, and then wait for your number/name to be called. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be ready, and the big order was accurate and given to us fresh/hot. As a whole the food was good. The chicken tenders were definitely service food grade, but was prepared well and came with greasy fries. My wife's Italian beef sandwich was well flavored, and I thought my one bite was really good: plenty of thinly sliced beef in a flavorful gravy (definitely better than the Italian beef from Portillos lately). One unusual menu item I tried was the italian beef egg rolls: a bit of italian beef with provolone cheese, wrapped tightly in an egg roll wrapper. It comes with au jus (gravy) for dipping. Not sure if it really should work, but was tasty, nevertheless. What I really wanted was a Chicago-style hot dog. They do have vienna beef served here, but neither their hot dogs or burgers has fresh tomato as a topping...so no Chicago-style available. read more

Pretty solid beef hot dipped. My first visit was pretty good. Beef has a bit of a chew but good flavor and heat from the giardiniera. Make it a meal and you'll get a ridiculous amount of fries. Barq's root beer always a plus. Staff was a bit distracted and wasn't paying attention to the words coming out of my mouth. I joked with him about it. Dining room was well kept. Definitely surpassed expectations. I ordered the Chickies Italian beef with hot giardiniera with fries and drink, plus a hamburger and small cannoli. The beef and burgers were both great. The beef here was solid, and if this review was only about the beef and it was sold at a Johnnie's-like price point, this would be a six-out-of-five star meal. It was that good, and the fries were fantastic. But the price of the beef, plus the combo (a side of fries and a fountain soda) was $17.10 after tax. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for a beef and fries, folks. I know America is struggling right now, but is it struggling so much that I have to pay date-night prices for a freakin' beef? This was a great meal but now I'm going to think twice before going back. The base price of the beef was, I think, $12.99. I'll have to verify that through other sources, but even that price straight up is a ton higher than what you'd pay at Johnnie's, Al's, Portillo's, or a comparable outlet. Chickies is always a solid choice. The dogs and meatball sandwich are excellent, fries are some of the best anywhere, and the cannoli milkshake is a must. This is just a Beef review. Wish I could give a higher score but this sandwich really was not good. It was a 2.5 Beef was tough Juice did not have a lot of flavor Peppers were underwhelming. I never heard of ate here until a friend recommended it because we were looking for something in the area and suggest Chickies and when he told me breaded steak sandwich I was sold. I took my youngest and my parents and the place is on a main road but I was amazed I had never seen it before. I ordered the breaded steak and fries and my daughter ordered a hot dog fries. First of all, fresh cut fries! A huge portion and they were great fries. My sandwich was very tasty and the marinara was on point. I know they also known for the Italian beef but I'll have to go back for that. There's a Chicago feel to the decor and food and it was clean and inviting. If I wasn't so full I would had an Italian ice, but again maybe next time. The girl at the register was a little slow and just walked away at one point, but the food came out relatively fast and was hot so. I usually go to Chickies on my lunch break at 12noon - The food always have been great - On 1/14/2025 I went to Chickies @ 8:45pm for the 1st time. I ordered a plain double cheeseburger via Drive - Thru. I get to the window and see the cook touching the broom and making my sandwich without gloves on. The cashier bring me my double cheeseburger with everything on it. The cashier told the cook it suppose to be plain. The cook looked at her and Shrug his shoulders. The cashier came back to me and said your sandwich have everything on it - Do you still want it? I told her NO thats not what i ordered. I asked for it to be dipped and it was expertly dipped. The fries were fresh cut with the skins on. They were very lightly salted. Just know that there are two different types of giardiniera that they carry. Their own house made blend that is reminiscent of Mr. Beef. It's heavy on the celery and not pickled or the regular kind. I didn't know that and ordered just giardiniera and was disappointed. This place is light on the salt (I say this as a none high blood pressure person loll) so the salt from the pickled giardiniera is needed. This place is a staple in the area. They sell Italian ice, their famous and original cannoli shake and an assortment of sandwiches. They also carry pizza. I ordered through the drive thru which was weirdly situated to me. So I had heard a lot about this place on some Facebook foodie pages that I'm on and had to check it out to see what all the hullabaloo was about. I must say that the good things I've heard about Chickie's were spot on. Decided to get a combo so I could check out both the beef and sausage. With sweet peppers (75 cents extra), the sandwich came to $10.70. I "made it a meal" for an additional $3.75. Separately a soda would cost $2.49 and fries are $3.25, so the meal deal makes sense. Sizeable portion - the beef seemed to be of a slightly higher quality than typically offered at most beef joints. Sausage had great flavor. And if you're looking for a LOT of handcut fries - you'll get them at Chickie's. One of the largest orders I've seen. I don't live in their area, so dining in is my only practical option. But it's worth an occasional drive - I'll be back. read more

This is my first time coming to this new location. It's been awhile since I've had their beef so decided to give it another try. The inside is very spacious, and they also have a large outdoor patio as well. The food comes out very quick and fresh. I got my usual beef dipped with hot peppers. Also decided to add fries and drink for about $12. A little pricey for lunch, but what the heck. They give you large bag of fries so although your wallet might feel empty, your stomach definitely won't. The beef was tasty, it was well seasoned and juicy, just wish they could of packed it with more meat. They definitely skimped me on some meat. Beef sandwiches should be full of meat. I've never been a big fan of their hot peppers, but at the end of the day, I left satisfied. Don't see me coming here often, but it's definitely worth coming where once in a while. read more

Chickies has so many items on the menu to choose from ranging from pizza, Italian beef to keto bowls. I love their hot dogs and fresh cut fries! They never disappoint. But one of my favorites on the menu are the Italian beef rolls which are egg rolls with Italian beef, cheese & giardineira served with beef juice. Very tasty! I grew up in the area and a lot of people tell me it's pretty good. So I try it from time to time. The fries our good especially if you like that fresh cut taste. The pizza slice is also solid 4/5 imo. Especially for a slice. My slice was hot and had not been sitting there all day as can happen with slices esp. Depending upon the time you go. I also tried a combination the bread was good and the beef was solid but the sausage was just ok. Overall I would definitely go back. They offer a wide variety of foods the key will be to find what they do really good. Right now I would strongly recommend the fries and the pizza is right there. Chickies has one of the best beefs in Chicagoland. We get it with both their hot peppers and traditional giardinera. Hot dogs are amazing. Steak sandwich is delicious, pizza is very good, but most important save room for Italian Ice. Always friendly over there the staff and the owners. Very disappointed from all the hype I have heard about this place and seeing they made it to Chicago's Best. I ordered the Combo juicy with the homemade hot peppers. The sandwich is way over priced at $10. The beef and sausage were both very bland. I was also surprised to see how greasy it was. Their hot peppers were unique but nothing special. I went with 2 dogs (everything of course) and a standard Diet Coke. Well the dog tastes the same and the fries (albeit a bit greasy) are amazing! They are fresh cut and we're salted perfectly!
