Pretty legit BBQ pork and roast duck! Tucked away in a older complex, Lucky City is one of those old school Chinese joints with the ducks and pork hanging and older folks speaking Cantonese inside. Prices are pretty fair and portions pretty big. I got a BBQ pork and roast duck combo with white rice (extra) and it was $20 but lasted me two meals. The BBQ pork was very tender with a food balance of meat and fatty parts. It's on the sweeter side especially with the sauce but it's really addicting. Will definitely be back to order by the pound as well. read more

Busier than I expected on a weekend lunch.. but got seated immediately, so not super packed. I think everybody in there was Chinese... There were good dishes and meh dishes. Meh: - crab fried rice, $70 but it's BIG. it just gets messy since it's crab legs. lot of rice. not that much flavor imo in the fried rice part. - roast pork: omg they gave us the fattiest section. the skin is crispy. but the actual "pork" part is no edible. Good / standard: - duck was standard. - chicken was standard. - salt and pepper pork chop. it's fried so can't go wrong there lol. - green veggies Each one of theses dishes was around $20. I can't believe I have not written a review for this place, we have eaten here for years and it's a sure bet for delicious food, fast service, and a good deal. The 4 dishes + soup is our favorite. If you can, order the Chinese bbq (pork and duck!). We love choosing dishes from the select menu. Today we ordered beef flat noodle, eggplant n garlic sauce, string beans, pineapple pork chop (a must!). Plus one bonus dish con xin tsai (or hollow heart veggie dish sautee with garlic). It's off menu so you gotta ask if they have it available. Of course we ordered the chicken corn soup. Everything comes out as it's cooked and you get a big bowl of steamed rice for the table. My daughter loves serving up the soup to everyone and then spinning the lazy susan to allow each person to grab a bowl of soup. Everything comes out delicious. The beef in the beef flat noodle is just so tender and perfectly seasoned. The meal isn't complete without the pineapple pork chop. A friend recently took me to Lucky City, a venue I hadn't visited in a decade. Its considerable distance from my residence may have contributed to my prolonged absence. However, a friend brought me there on a Saturday night, and it was packed with patrons. We sat down, but our food didn't arrive until an hour later. Upon arrival, I only enjoyed the fried shrimp. The orange beef was overly sweet, the tofu fish lacked flavor and was too hard. On a separate occasion, my mother ordered the seafood crispy noodle and soy sauce chicken, which were satisfactory. However, the seafood crispy noodle only included three small shrimp, mostly accompanied by imitation crabmeat. The flavor was acceptable, not overly salty. Nevertheless, I didn't appreciate the environment. Given the nature of the establishment, I didn't expect exceptional service. Will I return? Yes, I will, as the dishes were reasonably priced. They offer a promotion where you can choose three dishes and a soup for $40 or four dishes and a soup for $50. read more

Family of 7 outing and we decided to dine here on a weeknight. Upon entering we were seated pretty quick and order hot jasmine tea and family meal. It's a prefixed menu and it comes with soup, pork and chicken dishes, tofu, Peking duck with bun, stir fry veggies and mushrooms. The portion size is okay. The seasoning is good. I can't say it's the best Chinese food I've had especially when my hometown is NJ and I've dined in NY/NJ with many local mom pop good eats. However, given I'm on vacation, the food here is fine. The atmosphere here for sure is no difference than NY/NJ with people chatting, employees yelling at the chefs and servers and with occasional background noise of some clashing sound in the kitchen. read more

We came here with our extended family and they suggested to dine here as this was one of the few Chinese restaurants in the area. There were plenty of parking since its located in a strip mall right off of Coit road. We ordered the family style eight course meal. I will try to list the dishes as much a I could remember. We had the seafood vegetable soup, roasted duck in bao buns, bok choy stir fry, chicken mushroom stir fry, chicken with garlic sauce, pork and vegetable stir fry, and fried calamari. I think I am missing a dish, but nothing really stood out except the pork dish. All the dishes tasted fine and nothing I could say wow. The environment is a dark but the staff was very attentive. You can easily see the counter where they have the BBQ display (roast duck, roast pork, and other items). I ordered take out via through the phone. Order was ready when I arrived. I took advantage of the special of 3 entrees and 1 soup deal for under $40. This deal was enough to easily feed a family of 3-4 with left overs. The food portion was generous and great flavor. The food is more of a family/home cooking feeling. It definitely is worthy if you're looking for a great take out for a bargain. The issue I encountered was the slow, really slow, credit card system. It was so slow to process my transaction that I opted to pay cash so I don't hold up others customers. Hope they take care of this soon. Happened to be in the area and decided to place an order to go. They are not open for dine in, to go orders only. Easy to order, waited about 30 minutes. This place had a steady flow of to go pick up. Ordered crab rangoons, eggrolls, BBQ pork and roast duck, shrimp wonton noodle soup, fried pork chops, house seafood crispy noodles, and beef flat noodles. OMG. Everything was delicious!!! Server was super nice. Gave me a menu and recommended I call in order next time so I don't have to wait. Told her I didn't mind since I happened to be in the area. Lucky city I've been coming here for over 5 years and the food is always tasty. They have a dinner and lunch special. The food they serve is mostly Cantonese dishes and other popular dishes from all over China. Another place that is just like Lucky City is Sun Lok Kee and I've been going their for about 5 years. They have the same exact specials and dessert at one time. It's like they both are identical; It's like they copied their menus with each other. Going to these restaurants Lucky City is better because it's taste more fresh. The service and ambiance is ok. Your at a Chinese restaurant so the service is not that good something Authentic Chinese restaurants have in common. The food at Luck city is pretty good, everything is tender and has a pretty good taste. The things I recommend getting are the chicken and cha siu combo, walnut shrimp, beef crispy noodle, beef flat noodle, spicy pork chop, broccoli beef, Fish and tofu hot pot, and scallion beef. Overall this place is one of the best a authentic Chinese restaurants in Dallas. For other Cantonese family style restaurants in Dallas their is Pearl in Arlington, First Chinese BBQ Plano, A1, Sun Lok Kee Plano, Golden BBQ in Arlington and Garden restaurant in Garland . After going to all these restaurants I think Luck City is one of my top 3 restaurants next to First Chinese BBQ and Golden on my list for Authentic Chinese food. read more

Gotten takeout food from here a few times now and I already consider this my favorite Chinese food spot. Not really Szechuan style but the typical stuff you find in Bay Area, CA type restaurants. I don't know if there is another place offering roast pork in the area either. All 12+ different dishes I've tried have been great and fresh. The duck didn't have a bunch of grease in the box or anything....just very neat. The cuts they gave were very nice. Many of their entree dishes come with a side of steamed rice. Not all places include this. This isn't just my opinion either. My niece absolutely loves this place. We haven't had a negative opinion on any of their dishes. The English translation for dishes on their menu can be a bit peculiar though. The green beans/string beans are called round beans (with pork). Lo Mein is called Soft Noodle. Now one downside to this place though is that the wait for pickup can be a little long. They usually say 30 minutes and that's usually accurate. 30-40 minutes maybe. If it's the weekend, the phone can be busy for a while before you get through. Expect an hour wait or more when they first open on the weekends. I just love this place so much. This was the food I grew up eating and the quality is very high. read more

My family and I went there last night for dinner. We had their set dinner good for 3 people. We got the tofu with fish in hot pot, stir fry eggplants and stir fry beef with wide noodles (I don't know the proper name , I am just giving the dish a discription ) in addition to the dishes, it came with soup and plenty of rice. All the dishes were flavorful, hot and delectable. The servers were attentive. We were not only happy with the taste of the food but we were even more happy with the price of the food. A staple in my Chinese food diet. Lucky City has all the classic Chinese BBQ dishes from beef flat noodle, obviously the BBQ roast pork/duck and chicken, wonton soup, etc. My family literally comes at least once a week. They hit the sweet point for taste and value with generous portions that don't break the bank (great for penny pinching Chinese folk). My favorite dish is the fried pork chop with pineapple sauce, mmm. Even with the various competing restaurants in the area we find ourselves always coming back here. If you try to come for lunch then know that even though they open at 11am, their BBQ generally isn't ready until 11:30 or later. read more

Although I've only gotten food here to-go I'm confident on giving them 4 stars. I had a hankering for roast pork and/or duck and luckily they have this combo but not listed on the menu. Just let them know you want it over rice so they don't give you a whole duck and a pound of roast pork. It was great, satisfying and very Cantonese. I love the bbq pork here because it's well flavored and cut into thick slices. One time they subbed the bbq pork/duck combo dish with roast pork without telling me - I wasn't happy about that esp because I didn't like the roast pork. My guess is the language barrier prevented them from communicating this. After all, there was confusion on the phone when I asked them what the difference was between the dry and wet beef noodle. this place is around the corner from where i live and they serve peking duck ...what?! ...sadly that's as exciting as it gets. everything else is just meh. the duck came out and is presented beautifully, but it's warm - not hot - and therefore the skin isn't super crispy. flavor is good though. we ordered a bunch of dishes ...soup, stir fry, fried ...and everything was warm...the only thing that was hot was the tofu hotpot, and that's because it's served on a flame at the table. most of the dishes i felt were oversalted. also, not a fan of how they roll the dirty dish cart to the table to collect dirty plates at the end of the meal. :/ #fattypatty not impressed read more

The lady that helped me was friendly and nice. The food was okay. I ordered the 3 dishes and a soup deal- a little over $42 including tax, cheap compared to other Chinese restaurants I've been to.. The westlake beef soup was bland compared to others I've tried. Out of the three things I ordered, the fish fillet tofu pot was the tastiest. My picky girls enjoyed the fish. The other two dishes were okay, different from what I am used to, probably should have picked other dishes. Whenever we think about going out for Chinese food, this restaurant comes into our mind. It's typical Chinese Hong Kong style cuisine. Our family has been to this place many times. All the dishes we have tried are very good. The variety of dishes they offer can be intimidating if you're not familiar with Chinese or specifically Cantonese food. But most of them are good, so you won't go wrong. This time, we ordered a set meal, which means, for a fixed price, you get to pick a number of dishes + a soup. We picked salted fish and tofu, fried beef and Chinese broccoli; fried chicken, and the beef soup. The chicken was nicely fried. The meat we could tell was seasoned well before it was cooked. The best part actually is the crispy skin. The crispiness almost determines the quality of this dish. They did a good job on this. The beef and Chinese broccoli was decent. The beef was well seasoned, tender, and tasty. The broccoli was nice and green. As to the salted fish and tofu, the taste of the salted fish was there, but we didn't find any visible pieces of salted fish anywhere. They may have been minced and mixed with the tofu. Salted fish is very common in Hong Kong, but mixing with tofu is not that common. It usually goes with pork. If this dish is done skillfully, the aroma is awesome. As to the soup, it was quite disappointing. This soup (called "West Lake beef soup" in Chinese) is quite common, and each restaurant does it differently. But the two major ingredients are ground (or minced) beef and cilantro. If it's done right, it looks very eye appealing. The green cilantro and light brown ground beef flow on top of the white soup. However, I didn't see any of these two guys in the soup. It was still quite delicious. But I felt like it was not authentic enough. To wrap up the meal, they gave us a complimentary dessert, which was sweet tapioca soup. It was creamy and smooth. Very yummy! Another good thing about this place is the portion, which is much more generous than most Chinese restaurants offer. This is very characteristic of Chinese cooking or hospitality. You want your guests to leave your house full, very full. So they wouldn't complain. As I said the variety is so good, I'm sure I'll come back again and again. read more
