I miss when they were at the Historic Anderson house but the new place is fine too. I've only visited the new location twice so I'm not totally familiar with the menu yet. Seems great as a hangout. Most every customer I've encountered here is doing work or studying on a laptop so it can be quiet earlier in the day. Evening hours seem to be more social. It's still amazing to see the quick/huge growth of Luana's in the last few years, from mobile coffee cart to a full-fledged amazing coffeehouse. The menu is pretty cool despite it being just sandwiches and fun (coffee) drinks. If you sit outside, you don't really feel like you're off a major street except for the occasional firetruck whizzing by. Aaron has really made a fun vibe, and his staff reflect that, with the joy they reverberate. Parking, as most people mention, is pretty limited in their lot (like 8 spots), but luckily it's not a terrible neighborhood with plenty of street parking around. Everything on the menu has a cute name which makes it easy to remember what you ordered! Brunch is really big here, since the last time I visited they've added in unlimited mimosas for $16 on the weekends. Fair warning- it's probably bottom-shelf champs. The counter waitress had me sold on it if I didn't have errands to run that afternoon I most recently came by. Sandwiches here are absolutely fabulous no matter what you order. The BYO breakfast sandwich is umami when you go with what's suggested, for me it was focaccia, bacon & gouda. Went with a simple Dammmn Daniel drink suggested as well and have no regrets. If you grew up in or have fond memories of the 80's, this is the place for you. Adorned with electronics and artifacts that quickly disappeared in the 90's, Luana's offers a vibe-rich place to relax and have an eclectic and awesome selection of coffee drinks, alcoholic drinks, and food. The names of the food alone is a giveaway that "you are somewhere different". My wife and I came here on the recommendation of our daughter, a student at ASU. I could have sat there all day and enjoyed the nostalgia ride while drinking cappuccino's. I ate the Rexfast which is a interesting combination of Spam, buttered rice, and two fried eggs. It was like I was sitting at home in the early 80's in Texarkana all over again. My wife had the Basic College girl, which was brie, fig jam, apple slices on Focaccia. Brie and Fig are natural food allies and wife loved the combination. My daughter had the "And You Put Your Spell on Me Sandwich" and really enjoyed the spicy aoli on it. In summary: Coffee awesome. Checked this place out around 1pm for an early afternoon coffee, it was packed, which made sense after my experience. People clearly enjoy this place as much as I did. The atmosphere inside is cozy and organic, filled with plants and almost mid century modern furniture. I had the damn Daniel latte hot and it was delicious, my friend had the iced Liana's signature which he volunteered "very good" and I didn't even ask what he thought. I loved the subtle touches of suns support all over the coffee shop, from a hanging basketball pot to the Phoenix Luanas half court patio outside. We only had coffee but saw some pizza being taken to tables which looked delicious. Will definitely be back to try some! My only complaint is I wish there were multiple sizes for coffee, I love coffee and would have ordered a larger size. read more

First, this place nails the atmosphere angle. Bar none, best layout and decor. Love the division of spaces, both indoors and outdoors. They have the usual problem these places all have of empty tables for two, but two people taking up a table for eight. It happens, but try not ruin today for everyone by being you. The food is different and killer. They nailed it. A breakfast sandwich that is made like an Italian beef, but with turkey. Very different. Best breakfast I've had in awhile. We were lucky to find an seat indoors since it was hot out. Their parking lot is absolutely TINY. The best bet is to park somewhere in the neighborhood behind them. Mostly empty and some trees out there provide shade as well. We ordered the voldermort (since it was so famous), avocado toast, and rexfast (essentially spam fried rice). The Voldermort is equally delicious as it is instagramable. The flavor is just a perfectly creamy vanilla coconut milk. The rexfast was a little disappointing. They give you three relatively large cuts of spam, I honestly would have preferred it to be diced and mixed in with the rice as the plastic ware doesn't really cut into it well. The rice itself was also relatively bland, I know it's butter rice, but add some salt at least. Ideally they would serve it with some garlic rice. The avocado toast looks a little dinky, but tasted great. Really great quality there. The only knock on this place is how long the food took. It took about 45 min from ordering till we got our food. I know it was busy, but that was something else... Other than that, there were lots of nice tables and lots of different rooms. Would love to come study or work here, but only on the weekday, otherwise it's just way too busy. read more

Cannot give this place enough praise! From a coffee shop breakfast spot in the morning to cocktails, pizza and sandwiches throughout the day--it has everything. I hadn't been to the old location so my only experience is with the new one. I've been 3 times in the last few weeks since I moved into the area. Such cozy furniture, games and TVs there's something for everyone. Service is a little slow but not super noticeable and the friendliness of the staff makes up for it. The macaroni salad is so good I might just get an extra side of it next time. Pizzas are really good can't go wrong there and I have tried a few of the sandwiches and there wasn't one I didn't like. For coffee I got an americano with cream simple but the quality of coffee you can tell is amazing. Their cocktails are also nice I really enjoyed the habanero margarita. Came with macaroni salad and chips, so you get a good amount of food for the cost. Lots of character and cool decorations, it is definitely one of a kind. They moved to a new location on Thomas rd not too far from the old location. Great place for group meetup, study and relax in the middle of the city. We ordered veggie pizza and you open my eyes again sandwich (Mac cheese as side). Veggie pizza was fresh and puffy, topped with artichoke and pickles. Sandwich was crunchy crispy on top with savory deli slice in the middle. Customer service was excellent and they were patient and considerate with each customer. Love how spooky it is in here for Halloween! Cute place, great menu, and especially - creative drinks! The coffee menu will prove hard for you to narrow it down to just one drink. So far I've had a decent amount of drinks here but my favorites are: The "Beautiful Chaos" latte which had two muddled Reese's melted with espresso, drizzled with chocolate, and vanilla, AND "The Campfire Smores" which had mocha, hazelnut, cinnamon topped with a fire roasted marshmellow! I prefer them breve style but I'm sure they're great with any type of milk. Their drinks feel decadent and their baked goods are larger than your average coffee shop's, especially their brownies, cookies, and M&M bars, I'd say almost double in size. So far I've had the Carrot Cake Muffin, Pumpkin Whoopie Pie, and Oreo Brownie which have all been soft, moist, and all-around great. They also have sandwiches, pizza, as well as cocktails. Prices are very reasonable for being downtown. Inside, seating options are plenty and they have options for small as well as larger groups. Service is usually friendly, and honestly there's only one negative, that their parking lot only has a few spaces, maybe 7 spots, and most are usually taken; I tend to get lucky finding 1 or 2 open spots. They are close to the McDowell/Central Ave light rail stop though. Also, you can park in the historic neighborhood south of them or in the nearby Hance Park lot if need be. read more

I loved it here! Abe and Lex were such friendly faces who had a lot of regulars, which speaks to their level of service. The cafe itself is so quirky and cool. I loved that there's a ton of space so you have your choice of seating, like at a table or a sofa. There's plenty of outlets in case you want to work. My hot oat latte with a dash of honey was great. It had lots of foam and creaminess. It's not the best in the valley, but it soothed my soul, and it had beautiful latte art. They have tons of latte flavors, ranging from lavender to cocoa, so you can try a new flavor. I was so excited that Luanas opened within walking distance for me! This cute coffee shop is a great place to hang out and meet up with friends. They have pretty good coffee, I've enjoyed their ube latte several times. They also serve food which isn't bad. They have a decent breakfast sandwich and some other interesting food options throughout the day. I haven't loved their baked goods, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't. Luana's was one of the very first coffee shops I ever visited in Phoenix and for that, it has a special place in my heart. Retro decor, ample parking (with bike racks on the way, hopefully!), cool baristas, and plenty of seating for studying or hanging out with friends. On more than one occasion, I've come in during the day to study/work and then when the sun set, grabbed a beer for trivia night without skipping a beat. Some of my favorites from the drink menu are their Luana's Signature and the Voldemort (which packs a visual punch and harkens back to their coffee truck days), but you really can't go wrong with any of their drinks. They don't charge extra for dairy substitutions on principle, which is pretty cool. I haven't tried a lot of their food outside of their pizza (crispy, thin crust, surprisingly really good) and their baked goods by the counter (think cookies the size of your face), but I'm a sure fan of what I have tried! Don't forget to scope out their large hot sauce selection. Today, I had an iced Taro Latte that I saw floating on their instagram. Yum! Creamy and not too sweet, similar to a frothy milk tea. I got mine without espresso, but you can add it if you'd like a bit of extra caffeine. Although I miss their old location's sunny windows and the big ol bougainvillea's on the patio, they've kept the best parts of Luana's in their new spot on Thomas. Its menu is packed with equally grad-school-esque food featuring unique twists on fan favorites like BBQ pizza and dirty Chai. My friend grabbed the "Reminding Me to Carve My Own Path Sandwich" which is a hefty portion of sandwich complete with a side of Hawaiin Macaroni Salad a handful of chips. I ordered the "Buffalo Pizza" which has been renamed the "Buttery Chicken Pizza" --which one would think is Indian inspired like the popular dish but...no. It's just cheese pizza with chicken that's lightly drizzled with Buffalo Sauce. So I thought that was weird but, it was cooked well and so. damn. big. so no complaints here! I live in Encanto and am happy to have a place like this nearby. Easily reachable by walking or bike. Historically, I've had to drive to Lux or Copper or somewhere else a little further away but glad there is finally a closer spot.
