Louise's reputation precedes itself. Both locals and visitors alike make the trek here. It's a Black Mountain "must do". Breakfast and lunch only - I think they close up shop around 3PM. The pancakes are enough for two people - served with fresh strawberries and vanilla bean syrup. Sounds a bit weird and different but is really, very good! Our group tried everything from the Curried chicken salad, the biscuits and gravy, Philly Cheesesteak with pimento cheese sauce to the amazing breakfast burrito. Love the kitschy self-serve coffee station with all the cool retro mugs! Order at the counter - get a playing card and find a seat - the food will find you! Reasonable prices for the quantity and quality. Bottled beer for beer drinkers. Canned drinks for pop drinkers. Louise's can definitely get crowded. Cute and quaint in a remodeled house. The wrap around porch, offers more outside seating options and had a cool breeze this morning. When you first walk in the door you are hit with the sweet aroma of pancakes and waffles. The team is courteous and welcoming. You feel right at home. I got the pancakes, light and fluffy, topped with strawberries and a handmade vanilla syrup that isn't the least bit sickly sweet. The iced coffee is amazing, no need for cream or sugar. We stopped by, placed our order and were quickly seated on the porch. It was a beautiful morning and there were several flowering trees and bushes blooming around the stately old house. The service at Louise's was friendly and efficient. My wife got the "Classic Breakfast" with bacon, eggs, grits and a biscuit. I got "Eggs Louise", an open-faced biscuit with sausage, eggs and a divine sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the location took full advantage of a gorgeous setting. I have been a fan of Louises for years. Finally, I'm adding my review. One of the main issues with Louises is their popularity. There's very little parking, and there's generally a good solid line of people ready to order their food. Especially on the weekend in the summer, when the local camp cohorts are changing, and Black Mountain is overrun with visitors. But they really do a great job with moving the line through quickly, relatively, and there are lots of places to sit. It might be a bit crowded, but doesn't really feel claustrophobic. On to the food! Without a doubt, my favorite here is the Jamaica jerk smoked pork quesadilla special, with the black beans/corn salad as the side. I have had numerous other things as well, Reuben is really good, and everything else I've had here is tasty. But every time I order something else, I look at people having the quesadilla, and think, "I could've had a V-8!," or more accurately, "I could've had the Jamaica jerk quesadilla!" It does take me about 20 minutes to drive here, so I don't come here as often as I otherwise might. Wifey and I chatted up the owners, last time we were here. They try to source local ingredients as much as possible, and avoid the Sysco syndrome. Great, fun people with excellent customer service ethos. Louises is definitely worth the effort. read more

At many order and sit places you won't get this level of service after placing your initial order. The blueberry waffle was perfect, and the chop shop sausage a treat. Classic breakfast and lunch restaurant in black mountain. The restaurant is in the bottom floor of an old house. Really cool setting. It is order at the counter and they have breakfast all day. I have been a handful of times but this review is based off a lunch visit with my wife. I ordered the Black Mountain Cheese Steak A Philly classic with a southern twist. Served with sauteed peppers and onions, and Louise's pimento cheese. It was very good. The beef was juicy and tender. The bread was great. I wish it had more cheese on it but other than that it was great. The side of pasta salad was good I wish there was more of it. One note since it is an old house it was pretty cold inside so bring a jacket if it is cold outside. read more

I would have given this place five stars if it did not take forever to get your food. This place is described as good home cooking by locals. It looks like a renovated house and is extremely cute. The decorations and the colors of the walls are extremely cheerful. I got the special, which was a lemon chicken wrap. It was absolutely delicious. My friend got a breakfast bowl, which is not on the menu, but I would love to try it next time. It has home fries, eggs, and vegan turkey among other things. Another thing I would want to try is the biscuits and jam. Some of my friends tried them and and they loved it so much they bought jars of the jam. It did take over 20 minutes for us to get our food. I don't know if that was a fluke, but we were getting pretty restless. You order at the counter and then find your own seats. I limped up a few steps to see a sign saying to go around to the side of the building and get on the serpentine line going back to the front of the eatery to place your order. I have spinal stenosis. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Louise's Kitchen. The first thing that caught my eye was the physical appearance of the restaurant/house. From the time I laid eyes on the property, I knew it would be something special. Entering the front door, a sign tells patrons to proceed to the counter that is located right at the KITCHEN! A menu board posted above the counter allows you to easily order from their dozen or so menu options. I love it when it's simple. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and meatless sausage. Other than the meatless sausage, sausage and bacon appear to be the only breakfast meat options. I took my seat and waited less than ten minutes for my order. I imagine the wait to be longer on a busy weekend morning. Whole waiting, I buried myself looking at local paintings that were displayed on the wall for sale. (It was breakfast so I wasn't prepared to drop $250 on art) The pancakes arrived with vanilla bean syrup. They were cooked to perfection and the syrup was just sweet enough to add a bit extra. The four pancakes were roughly five inches each in diameter. They were not enough to fill me, so...I ordered a second round. I definitely recommend this spot for those who find themselves near Black Mountain. The value was decent, but the home turned restaurant feel was great. read more

Eh. I think I need to try again. I thought the veggie quesadillas were ok, but they might be better in summer, when greens are in season. Mine today seem to have lettuce in them. I'm not a fan of hot, wilted lettuce. Hubby had a standard breakfast of grits, eggs over easy, and toast. The grits were tasty but not very hot. Usually you expect grits to be dangerously hot. Constant, never-ending interruptions asking if we wanted our coffee topped off made conversation disjointed. And there is no question to why, what a fantastic family owned place! Great southern comfort breakfast (the coffee is incredible too). What not to love?! You head to the counter to order and pay (sometimes there's a line, but it moves super fast since nobody has to hold up tables while they wait for their order to be taken or to pay the bill - get that out of the way first, so smart!) the restaurant was originally a modest-size house, so it's small and the kitchen is smaller than most residential kitchens. Keep that in mind when ordering. It is a slightly limited menu because of the small space. But they have mastered it! You get a table marker before you grab your drink and find a table, and they bring the food out when it's ready. Service is great, and they bus the tables for you. The best part though is the FOOD!!!! Sooooo good. Waffle, pancakes, and the grit cakes are my favorites. Dogs are welcome outside, which is our favorite place to sit.
