I met a friend here for lunch. Amazing venue and hospitality. Truly a hidden gem - breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Fairly priced for the portions and the phenomenal food. Fun outdoor space, with a small stage for live music. Owner is personable and wants to meet you, so swing by, order something special, sit back and enjoy the day!

Love this restaurant! The vibe, the drink selection, and food are incredible. A hidden gem in Black Mountain. It's near downtown and just far enough out of it, that it feels like you're in someone's garden and home. Oh, and they have piggies !! Food may feel unfamiliar but everything is delicious. For a warm day- their salad is refreshing and dressing is so yummy! For a cooler evening- their curry is delicious, and tastes like a home cooked meal. Makes you want seconds. Gluten free and vegetarian are labeled and you can make some adjustments on certain menu items. They have tons of wine options, especially South African wines. Great cocktails. My favorite drink is actually a non alcoholic- GINGEMBRE. Beautiful Mountain View's. Perfect for watching the sunset. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.

I didn't expect to enjoy South African cuisine as much as we did at Bush Farmhouse in Black Mountain, North Carolina. We had reservations for a group of six, and everything from start to finish was fantastic. The staff was incredibly welcoming, quick, and friendly, making us feel right at home and sharing personal stories and recommendations. I ordered the Bobotie, which was flavorful and comforting, with fragrant minced meat and rice. The Sausage Rolls we shared, and they were flakey and delicious. The farmhouse Salad was beautifully plated. The Malva, a traditional South African dessert comprised of an apricot infused spongy cake served with warm custard and whipped cream was a standout. It's a sweet, rich dessert that ended the meal beautifully. The restaurant also offers a selection of South African wines, carefully curated by the staff during visits to the country. We enjoyed a Cap Maritime Coastal Pinot Noir 2023 and a Reyneke 2020 Syrah. South African treats and biscuits (including Malva mix) are also available to take home. The property is also unique. Housing a small selection of animals, like baby pigs, and a garden area. Highly recommended if you're looking to try something different and delicious.

South African food in an old farm house. Lovely backyard with ample outdoor seating and a stage for music. The chicken coop is cute for the kiddos! The food is all done very well. We have come for brunch and dinner now. Highly recommend the bush breakfast platter! Loaded with all your morning cravings:) The staff are friendly and seem to enjoy working there.

Not your run of the mill mountain restaurant - this place is unique in every sense of the word. Eclectic space with large outdoor dining and lounging area. Live music and fire pit along with corn hole and some toys for the kiddos. Very friendly team and the food...the food is so good. Great Bloody Mary too. Afterwards be sure to give the pigs a scratch, although unfortunately (well, fortunately for them I suppose) the donkeys have been re-homed to a more appropriate and larger abode.

What a gem! Everything I tried here was delicious! I had the prawns as my main dish and it was delicious. The inside is very cozy and the outdoor area had farm animals. They even have a stage for live performances there and a fire pit going that's perfect for the cold weather. The service was great here as well and we didn't encounter any problems with our orders. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Black Mountain.

Third time coming to bush farmhouse, love the food and atmosphere. It is a must eat spot everytime we visit black mountain. The soups and curries are great for when it's super cold. The food is always super flavorful and drinks were so good. The atmosphere is super cute. The inside feels like a farmhouse and the outside area for kids and chilling is also super nice.

I had the lamb chops and they we're very flavorful. As was the burrata. Our server was very helpful. We were disappointed to hear that they were lacking in multiple ingredients for different things on the menu as they were on the process of switching items out. The back patio had some live animals and a nice lounge area with outside seating. The chillier weather made the bonfire a enjoyable place to sit during the evening

Whoa. Tonight was an epic dining experience. We have been before but I have never ordered the harvest bowl. We also ordered the farmhouse salad . Clean bowls all around.

One of the best local hangouts, especially if you are staying or residing in downtown Black Mountain, Bush Farmhouse is a glorious place with mouthwatering, heavenly South African-inspired cuisine and some of the most satisfying cocktails I have had in my life. What was great about Bush was that it was literally walking distance from our Airbnb. Therefore, we ate dinner there, had pre-dinner drinks there, and had nightcap drinks there. The atrium-like outdoor bar area has all the feels of a neighborhood hangout with a South African-Bush-like atmosphere that is down-to-earth, chill, and most welcoming to anyone. When you walk towards the front entrance, the building itself is this bucolic cape property, with its own garden and greenhouse in the back where they grow their own vegetables and herbs. The front of the building has porch seating before you enter the main part of the first-floor house, which almost serves as some sort of general store, as they sell South African-produced goods. In there, you can wait for one of the servers to check your reservation and be seated. While there are a couple of tables indoors where you can take your meal and pick up some South African-produced goods, the atrium-like patio bar area is where you will want to grab a seat. We were greeted by Mark, the owner and executive chef, a really cool dude who made us feel at home immediately. We chose to sit at the bar, which is where we ended up going every other time we stopped at Bush Farmhouse for food and drinks... but most of the time, it was drinks. There are a variety of wonderful cocktails to enjoy there such as the Just Now with a synergetic blend of rooibos gin, honey, lemon, egg white, and amaro nocino. The Sundowner Negroni was quite good that included capertif, while my favorite and go-to was the Corpse Reviver #2, made with Mancini vermouth, lemon juice, Cointreau, and lots of love. If you're looking for after-dinner imbibements, their espresso martini and lychee spritz (made with gin) are terrific options. Food-wise, you can't go wrong with the scrumptious grilled octopus served with fresh veggies from the garden, like mixed greens and tomatoes, and pickled onions. If you want a real taste of South Africa, you can't go wrong with the Bobotie, which consists of a cape Malay curry-infused meatloaf cooked and served in a ramekin dish with egg and served with rice and chutney. The pap and boerewors were also delicious, consisting of maize meal, morogo, and farm sausage, and served with a tomato onion gravy. For dessert, the chocolate mousse-like dessert was fabulous without being too heavy and good to the last bite. Bush Farmhouse was a fabulous find, a local hangout that offers excellent South African cuisine made from fresh ingredients and titillating cocktails that will make you thankful you walked there and can walk back to where you came from.

I see a lot of comments about the service. That's the one area I cannot fault. I went last night with my son - we stopped in on the way back from Tail of the Dragon, headed to Raleigh. Having grown up in SA, I'd heard about this place and wanted to give it a try. I left disappointed. Food was okay, prices seemed high. First was the biltong/droe wors. Ridiculously small serving for $15. Both the biltong and the dry wors were lacking - definitely not enough coriander seed or seasoning (black pepper/salt/worcestershire sauce) used. My son had the bush pie - he enjoyed it, but complained about the size of the serving. I had the lamb bunny chow. I used to get bunny chow as a younger man, in Durban, at UND. This didn't bring back the nostalgia I longed for. Maybe I'm losing my mind, but was it served with tzatziki sauce?! I wanted to try the melk tert, but given the lack of execution on the prior dishes, I decided to save myself further disappointment. Long story short... it didn't deliver what I hoped it would.

My family and I love this restaurant. We always make it a point to come here whenever we are in Black Mountain. We are also so happy the restaurant is open and thriving. The service is always on point, as well as the food and drinks. The atmosphere hasn't changed. Very chill and laid back.

Wow, wow, wow! This place is so nice and comfortable. I felt like I was right at home. My husband and I stopped in to grab lunch. He got the grilled octopus and I ordered the rotisserie chicken it was great!! We then ordered the Apricot infused cake wow it was amazing!! I would highly recommend this place to everyone! We will be back. Our server was great. She helped us with the menu and offered us options for dessert! Thanks!!

Every time we go, I'm kind of shocked it's not absolutely packed. This is part of the Foothills Meats family, and if you know their spots (the butcher shop, the food truck, The Grange, etc.), you already know--they don't miss. So we went in the first time pretty confident, and they absolutely delivered. The space itself is great, but the rooftop is the real standout--easily one of the best views in Black Mountain. It's such a good spot to sit, have a drink, and hang out. Speaking of drinks--the bar is excellent. The bartenders have always been great, super easy to sit at the bar and enjoy yourself. They've got a strong liquor selection and fun, well-balanced cocktails. Now the food. Everything we've had has been consistently good, but our last visit really stood out. We shared the pork katsu sandwich, the sweet potato biscuits, and the poutine. The pork katsu was done really well--crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that classic crunch from the cabbage and a slightly sweet, tangy katsu-style sauce. I also really liked that the sauce was on the side so you could control each bite. The sweet potato biscuits surprised us--in the best way. Those are easy to mess up, and these were not. Soft, flavorful, slightly sweet with that savory balance, paired with ham, sorghum butter, smoked cheddar, and red eye gravy--it's a really thoughtful combination that just works. And the poutine... so good. Crispy fries, rich mushroom gravy, and cheese curds that actually hold their texture. It's hearty without being heavy, and every bite felt balanced. For the level of quality they're putting out, the prices are very reasonable--which makes it even more surprising that it's not more crowded. It's right in downtown Black Mountain, but we actually drive all the way from Flat Rock to come here--and it's absolutely worth it every time. Overall, this place just nails it. Great drinks, really solid food, beautiful setting--and somehow still flying a bit under the radar. Definitely worth checking out.
