Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had! On our way to Asheville/Weaverville and decided to stop at Black Mountain for dinner. This place kind of stood out as a local favorite so we thought we give it a shot. Wait was pretty long and had people just kind of milling around on the sidewalk outside, but it was worth it. Staff was friendly and very attentive. I had a blue cheeseburger, and it was fantastic! It was the standard burger with blue cheese added, and a side of french fries. We also got an appetizer order of the onion rings, which were equally amazing! Highly recommend! This is going to be our go to pitstop between Charlotte and Asheville from here on out!

Great food! Not just typical bar food. The hamburger was delicious, not greasy and the hand cut fries were awesome. Quick service and attentive. They serve Coca-Cola- which I love with a burger and fries!

We enjoyed a late lunch here this afternoon! We shared the salmon cakes appetizer (yummy!), then I enjoyed the shrimp tacos special. We split pumpkin beer, and that was yummy too. Service was good--seated promptly, friendly server. Glad we stopped!

The Trailhead is one of my favorite eats in the Black Mountain area. Unless you choose the bar to enjoy your beer and food, you will probably have to wait for a table. But the wait is worth it. Friendly neighborhood atmosphere and still professional. If you can secure a "Breakfast Burger" and some onion rings... you will remember me...

Special--grilled andouille, crawfish over cheesy garlic grits. Yum!

On our way to Waynesville, we stopped here because we were hungry, and we have (adorable) dogs. This restaurant was recommended on Bring Fido and highly rated on yelp, so we thought we'd give it a try. Good choice! A variety of delicious foods I wanted to eat and good drinks. My husband had the special, which was a Cajun dish with crawfish and andouille sausage over cheesy grits, and I had jambalaya and the famous onion rings. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. Jackson, our waiter, was friendly and efficient and brought our dogs water right away. The restaurant was crowded and had a little bit of a wait on a gorgeous Thursday night, but the wait and was worth it, and we will come here again. We have been to Black Mountain many times, but it was particularly charming tonight, so we will make a return visit during our stay here

Dropped into this cool little downtown hot spot after a long day of hiking & exploring the nearby areas. Given that it was 4th of July weekend we expected a bit of a wait but were pleasantly surprised at the quick seating & prompt, friendly attention from the wait staff. The inside is a bit of an echo chamber but they do a great job of spacing the table out so there's not much reverb & unintentional eavesdropping of nearby people. To start with an appetizer we tried the Black Mountain Chili which came with chives, sour cream & a melted layer of cheese. Fantastic way to start the meal as the chili was decadent & delicious! For entrees we tried the Trailblazer which is a 1/2 pound angus burger with their house made slaw, bacon, caramelized onions, & cheddar cheese topped with garlic mayo. I was slightly jealous that my better half ordered this one and I didn't as this was one of the better burgers i've had in awhile. At the price point of $11 it's really a great value for the burger. I myself tried the Linville Falls which is a fried chicken breast which is pickle-brined, topped with lettuce, tomato & provolone on a toasted Brioche bun. You have the option to toss the chicken breast in one of their house-made wing sauces. On the server's recommendation I tossed it in the Sweet Asian sauce & that decision was a good one. If we're ever in the area again, I'll be stopping in to try more of their menu!

Located in the charming town of Black Mountain that serves affordable food..all homemade from local ingredients. Many gluten free items. Super friendly staff . Seating indoors and out. Started with Beer Pickle Spears which are Ale Battered with homemade ranch. Very good..not too greasy. Also tried The Gully Creek which were 2 grilled Mahi Mahi seasoned with Jerk sauce topped with Mango Salsa,Caribbean Slaw and cilantro served with black beans and chips. Good portion size and very favorable. My wife had The Beacon Heights on gluten free bread which was basically a BLT. She thought it was one of the best Gluten Free sandwiches she had ever had! When driving to or from Asheville/Charlotte..stop in and enjoy some real good home cooking

House chili

That's fine in normal cold weather, but at 22 degrees the overhead heaters just don't quite cut it. I think this part of the experience could use a little revision. My wife had pancakes with vanilla syrup and sausage. I ordered the classic breakfast with eggs, grits, sausage, and toast. Everything was very flavorful. My only complaint was that my food was lukewarm. It seemed like my food may have been finished and sat for a few minutes while my wife's pancakes were completed. On a cold morning, I would have preferred a hotter meal, the grits weren't warm enough to melt the butter, and the toast was cold, so I didn't even attempt to butter it. That said, even with the temperature issue, the food was still very tasty, and given how cold it was outside, I'm willing to let it slide. Everything arrived quickly, and the restaurant itself is very quaint, set in an old home that is very clean. On our first visit, they offered chocolate chip cookies to go, and they were excellent! They didn't have any this time, but we'll be back again to try our luck. To those about to nosh, I salute you!!

In my experience, if eggs "over easy" are cooked at too high a temp the whites become leathery. I know some people like that leathery white thing, but just not my preference. And no, the eggs being room temp didn't offset being cooked in too hot oil. The biscuit was doughy (maybe just undercooked) but I was able to eat around the edges of it and the edges were actually tasty. Sure would've liked to have had a whole biscuit tho! I know some people like to eat their biscuits at room temp, but just not my preference. I prefer them hot, I think they taste better. A hot biscuit also helps to melt the butter and at the risk of sounding like a prima donna the cold little bricks of butter I tried and failed to spread on it became a bit of a turnoff. The home fries seemed undercooked but I was able to eat a few. Nothing really special about them, just seemed like a potato chopped up and pushed around in grease. I did like the jam/jelly selection, nicely done. Some may wonder why I didn't complain or send this back. I had an appointment down the road and wouldn't have made that considering the initial order took 12 minutes from payment to plate landing on the table, so a re-do would've been??? no idea how long. Sometimes it's better to just tough it out. It wasn't busy, there was no line to order, about 6-8 patrons total in the restaurant. I was surprised at the wait, but part of that was my order getting crossed with someone else. The other guy who first got my plate shouted over to me that he didn't sneeze on my food, so that was nice.

Their deli sandwiches were spectacular. We tried the caprese, turkey and chicken salad versions - all great. Full bar inside too for tipsy shopping. For breakfast we had egg sandwiches and biscuits and gravy - excellent, no notes. Staff and owners very friendly and efficient. Dog friendly patio was a plus (hi Cooper!).
