Ruined my Birthday!!!!!!! I grew up on the cost and love sea food especially oysters so this year for my birthday I decided that I wanted to get oysters as my special birthday dinner. After doing lots of research, I discovered that this restaurant was the only place to get them on the night we were dining. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was no host stand or anyone to greet us. I do have to note that they were not busy at all. After standing around for about two minutes, someone at the bar yelled over to just sit wherever. No one came to speak to us greet us or check on us at all for several minutes after we chose a table and sat down. Finally, the person who shucks the oysters got my husband and I a glass of water. Another minute or so later we hear, shouting and look over to see who I guess to be our waitress shouting at the oyster guy for bringing us water. She than dumps out the waters she was getting us (about 10 minutes after we sat). She than stomps over to our table and says "what do you want" in a rude way. We order cocktails and some appetizers. When we finally get our food it is nothing special. We finish our water, cocktails and starters. The dirty dishes continued to sit at our table and pile up through at our dinner with nobody taking them even after we asked several times. We also only received one refill of water the entire night from another waitress. My husband had a question about their wine special and she had no idea what wine we were even talking about much less how to a answer the question of whether or not it would pair nice with the trout dish. I order my oysters and a small cup of soup for my dinner and my husband gets the trout and we both get wine. When she leaves after taking our order she doesn't take away the pile of dirty dishes or drink glasses we had. Our table feeling quite crowded now and no way of flagging her down because she was not paying attention to us in the slightest, I start getting stressed and overwhelmed. The oyster person brings me my oysters (which were the only good thing about the entire dinner experience) and a food runner brings me my soup. About 20 minutes later and with my meal finished my husband gets his food, which was one of the most flavorless dishes I have ever tried. He ate about half of it and I could only eat about two bites before it was pushed aside in our pile of dirty dishes. There was also lots of yelling and shouting between workers and customers while we were there making the entire ambience of the restaurant seem very stressful. When it came time for dessert I told my husband that I didn't want to eat another bite at that restaurant. Nobody even knew was my birthday because nobody would even give us a second to tell them that we were celebrating. The food was beyond terrible, flavorless colorless, disgusting food that you expect to see sitting under a heat lamp at a buffet. The cocktails were nothing special and the service was the worst service I've ever had in my life. Thankfully, when we left there, we went up to the Station Bar up on the corner of Cherry Street and got a real cocktail which made up for the night a little bit. Definitely not worth the almost $200 check that the dinner had cost us or the 2 1/2 hour long dining experience while we sat around and waited for everything. read more

The grouper was amazing. The Mule drink was very good. The steak was requested to be medium rare but it was definitely medium. Next time will request rare. We have searched over 15 restaurants in New Orleans for the best bread pudding. Creole House Restaurant and Bar has the best. Que Sera bread pudding wasn't quite as good as Creole House but it was still excellent, maybe second or third place. We always look ditto going to Que Sera. read more

Decent spot for seafood. I enjoyed the mussels, raw oysters, and tomato salad. I wasn't a big fan of the fried crab claws though. Definitely get the key lime pie for dessert. Service was excellent and prices were good. They can also handle large groups which was what we were looking for. read more

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Que Sera. My wife thought the Shrimp Scampi was good. I had the Prime NY Strip with truffle pomme frites and poppyseed coleslaw. On a second visit we found the service spotty, with the wrong salad delivered to the table and the server needing to recheck the entire order. Fried oysters were unexceptional, and the quantity of Cole slaw was meager. Salads are excellent, however, and we can enthusiastically recommend the wedge salad, the beet salad, and the pear salad that appeared as a special. read more

We enjoyed the most delightful dinner here! We arrived right at 5 for our Friday reservation. (Amazed that some folks thought they'd walk in at 6:30 without a rez on Friday!) Two people in our party enjoyed special red snapper while I had two apps: the beet salad and tuna tataki. Their vodka martini was ON POINT. One thing we wished elegant restaurants like this would consider is to do something to deaden the echoes. With high ceilings and wood floors, the sound grew cacophonous as the dining room filled with customers. I'd put the average age at about 65-70 so I'm pretty sure others found it difficult to converse as well. The sound problem isn't unique to this establishment by far but they could start a trend of focusing on dinner conversations!! read more

My family of six dined have dined here many times but last night was disappointing. My brother's redfish was supposed to have crab meat but did not and the serving of the fish was very small. Other entrees were good, but all fish servings were quite small. When dessert was served (without spoons or forks to eat them) we asked for some spoons and a few dishes to share the desserts. A young girl tossed them on the table without a word. However, she didn't give us enough spoons so we asked for a few more. She stomped off and returned with a few more, again tossing them on the table as if this was an unreasonable request. I read several other reviews that mention an unpleasant girl tossing items on a table so I suspect this was the same person. I hope someone will speak with her and teach her how to interact with customers in a more appropriate manner. read more

Consistently good food at a reasonable tariff. Service can be a bit hit or miss though. If you're a known local you're golden, but visitors seem to receive a slightly cold shoulder. That aside, I never come to Black Mountain without a stop here. read more

We were so excited to be dining at Que Sera,greeted by a very unfriendly young girl. Our waitress was lovely and welcoming, making up for the unfriendly greeting. I think I asked three times if I could get oysters, Rockefeller without bacon and was told, I absolutely could when the oyster Rockefeller arrived, It was practically thrown at us by another young girl and it arrived with bacon. I was then told that they couldn't make oysters Rockefeller without the piece of bacon that was in between the oyster and the greens. I then ordered an over cheesy oyster with jalapeño on the top that I cannot recommend. For our meal, we had trout and a lobster pasta, which were good, When they arrived, a young girl that delivered our meal, not our waitress, practically threw the food at us again. No one goes to a restaurant to be treated badly. Certainly this restaurant needs to educate young employees how to treat customers. The recommendation online was for a blackberry martini. The first one came out amazing and the second one looked and tasted nothing like the first. Unfortunately, experience is everything and being treated badly by two young girls we won't be back. Want to know what made it special, our server QUINCIE (yes, I have her permission to use her name). She just made us feel like we were the most important table of the night. So when my son's steak came out way overcooked from his choice of medium rare, she told us before we discovered it and offered options. Have trouble deciding on wine or beer, she offered to let my wife taste samples before she chose. Need help choosing an entree? She asked questions of our taste before answering. What is we enjoy? Fried Oysters - crisp and delicious Oyster on toast - another solid hit. Fried Oyster salad - fried oyster was AMAZING , however the salad and dressing not so much. Redfish - really complex flavors and really delicious. Snapper with Brussel Sprouts - perfect DF and GF dish. New Orleans Bread Pudding - OUTSTANDING. Parking is free and nearby on the street or in free lots. Service, as I mentioned, was fantastic. What went wrong? A few over cooked dishes, food took a long time to come out even though we were well passed the rush. A busboy slammed a water bottle on our table and walked away. It really is nit picking to point this out and I did not hesitate to give it five stars. However, if you are a nit picker and these things bother you then beware. read more

We attempted to make a reservation on Tuesday and we missed out so we managed one for Wednesday. There is a to die for oyster special mid week that my hosts hight suggested. The restaurant is in a nice location and it is two store fronts in one. Our hostess sat the first group of us and the others found their way soon after. We were a party of six and we had a quiet spot in the back all to ourselves. As we started to consider our orders, we were told the oysters had not arrived so the special was not available. The staff was very understanding that this special was the reason for our visit and we were working together towards a plan for the next day....when the oysters arrived to the restaurant before we left the table. We all put in a dozen oyster orders each. Ordered wine and bread. The oysters were worth the wait. All but two in our party ate fresh raw shucked oysters. The two ate steamed oysters. At every turn, the staff was pleasant and helpful. This special may not be here the next time I'm in Black Mountain but the staff would be worth a return and to explore the rest of the menu. read more

Charming place with wonderful, friendly service. Food is a little hit or miss. The deviled egg appetizer with a fried oyster on top was totally delicious! We had the mussels which had a little bit of grit in them and the broth was not especially flavorful. My husband got the filet mignon which came with a fabulously cheesy baked potato and 3 onion rings. I tried all 3 - they were good. I got the steak frites and it was objectively overcooked and under seasoned. My husband and I both requested medium rare for our steaks; his was about right, but mine was well done to medium well, and had quite a bit of gristle. The fries with it were great, but the "creamed spinach" was not creamy at all, it was a cooked spinach over a watery sauce that was also completely unseasoned and not mixed together. I think it's a solid neighborhood place most of the time, and it's cool to watch the train go by so closely. read more

There to celebrate on a Friday night with my husband. A lively crowd but sound levels were not too high for us to have good conversation at normal sound. Variety of groups and ages from young families to a table older celebrating a birthday. Started with the Beef Carpaccio. It was a nice dish with shaved shaved Parmesan, baby arugula, and bread crisps. The idea is to make an open-faced sandwich of sorts. If you stack it in this order you should find it hold together nicely: bread, beef, horseradish sauce, arugula. Then for the entree, Trout Almandine. The trout is from a local farm. It's served with a nice corn cake and grilled romaine crowns and topped with almonds in a lemon sage butter sauce. The key with this dish is to get a bit of everything all in one bite. The desserts sounded nice but no room so perhaps on another trip. They kept our glasses filled and served us with a friendly smile. read more

Oysters and happy hour in a romantic setting. Do you need anything else? The whole menu is amazing but honestly I come for the happy hour & oysters, end up staying to try something from the seasonal selection. When the beef carpatio is on the menu, don't miss out. I could make a meal out of it and the oysters. They've got amazing soup too. And now that it's getting cold outside, its soup weather. The wine selection is also impressive. I feel like this place is a little slice of New Orleans in Black Mountain. It's fancy, but you don't have to worry about impressing anyone. The bar is usually full of friendly faces. Or grab a table and enjoy your company. I appreciate they take reservations so I can always get a table on the bar side. They are also doing a great job at social distancing their tables. We were a group of 6 to celebrate a friends birthday and they were able to seat us perfectly out of the way of others. It was a nice intimate time with friends. Enjoyed a nice evening at Que Sera. I started with oysters with garlic butter which were good but could have been more buttery to merit the toasts that were placed on top of each oyster. We also had etouffee and the redfish. The former was tasty but not traditional. It was creamy and tomato-y. The redfish was also unexpected as it wasn't blackened. Service was good. read more

Wanted to write a review, having been to Que Sera several times now. My wife and I were rewarded for choosing this restaurant for very special occasions, an anniversary and two birthdays. First of all the place has a very warm setting, cozy but not cramped. The food has been fabulous and the service first rate. The coffee rub fillet mignon can't be beat, cooked perfectly and the sides (twice baked potato and asparagus) were perfect compliments. Oh my... the deserts .... I had the Bread Pudding (which I am very particular about) just freaking delicious, Key Lime pie (you would be hard pressed to find better). Love this place and plan many more visits in the future. read more
