We had dinner here last night and it was our first experience and it was an amazing dinner from the first cocktail to the last bite. Our Server (Kay) was great. He took great care of us. We enjoyed the beef tartar as a starter. the halibut and the ribs were fantastic and there was also a little side dish that was made on the fly, made by the kitchen that was beautiful with mushrooms, artichokes, and a lot of other things that I cannot remember. It was also delicious. The wine selection is fantastic here. The sommelier (Adam) was very friendly and knowledgeable. When booking a table, definitely make sure you do it correctly as I was not able to get through that experience correctly but even though we didn't have a reservation, there was a very nice spot in the bar area that we enjoyed. I was excited to try Scoundrel and made a reservation over a month in advance, which seems to be the norm given its Michelin star recognition. The location on Main Street (in the former Lemongrass space, I believe) is charming and comfortable, though seating can feel a bit tight unless you're lucky enough to get a booth. The atmosphere is lively but intimate. Food-wise, the salad and entrées were very good, and service was attentive throughout the evening. That said, I did leave slightly underwhelmed given the expectations that come with a Michelin-starred restaurant. One small surprise was seeing entrées served with fries as a standard--it felt a bit more casual than anticipated. I was so excited to try Scoundrel and decided to walk up right at 5 to see if I could snag a seat at the bar--and I'm so glad I did. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. I started with the broiled oysters (omg) and the osetra duck fat caviar bites, which I will genuinely be dreaming about for a long time. Every bite felt thoughtful and indulgent in the best way. They also have a fantastic wine selection. I had a Chenin Blanc that was completely out of this world and paired beautifully with everything. The bartenders were outstanding--knowledgeable, warm, and clearly passionate about what they're doing. It all came together to make this one of those meals you know you'll remember. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Greeenville! We try to have reservations every month for no reason at all and to celebrate special occasions. The food is always on point. It's essentially the best steak you've ever had and the best chicken you've ever had and the best ribs you've ever had and the best Caesar salad you've ever had! In the list honestly could go on and on. The dark ambience for dinner is something I love to. It's just enough light and just enough darkness to have an intimate setting. For a Michelin star I was a little underwhelmed. We've been to a handful of Michelin star restaurants and the service has been over the top. Here, the service was not what I would expect. They forgot my drink for half of dinner, it took forever to get a glass of wine. The server would come at the most inopportune times, but then go missing for long periods. I absolutely love the beef tar tar table side presentation but the restaurant is small, and the servers would bump into each other with the carts The food was good, but not over the top. It was fine. Spectacular meal. The service was amazing and thoughtful. The FROMAGE ET POIVRE was one of the best appetizers we've ever had. Perfectly cooked pasta, with a creamy, peppery sauce that we couldn't get enough of. The ribeye was some of the best steak we've ever had. You have to squeeze the roasted garlic over the steak. We had seen the buzz about the Michelin star and were able to get an earlier than expected seating so we took it! EVERY SINGLE BITE WAS BEYOND DELICIOUS. Subtle flavors that linger on the palate; excellent wine list as well as a good variety of beers. Because of the popularity and interest in this venue I felt we were somewhat pressured to conclude our visit earlier than we might have liked. There were several parties waiting for seating when we left so it's somewhat understandable. But overall, it was a delightful evening with dear friends, excellent food, excellent service and charming ambience. And let me add that I am absolutely on board with the current trend of using vintage china for serving dishes that many venues are using now. This entire review is heavily based on the fact that this restaurant has a Michelin star which should automatically hold itself on a different level that the average restaurant. That being said I do think the experience was a little underwhelming. I personally had been checking reservations consistently and snagged an evening time of 8:45 - upon booking you do put a card on file and they ask for special events - I indicated birthday. We arrived promptly but ultimately did have to wait slightly 5-10 minutes. They do have a small lounge for waiting. The aesthetic of the restaurant is very dark - with the curtains and brick wall etc. It is very comfortable and cozy but did have a moderate noise level. We ordered the caesar salad, fromage et poivre, the filet mignon steak frites, dirty rotten scoundrel and the crème brûlée for dessert. The caesar salad was one of my favorites for the first few bites but as we ate more, we quickly realized it was very very salty - to the point we did have to stop and drink water afterwards to clear our mouth of the taste. Which is also a very small cup of water you receive and aren't refilled as quickly as it should be. The fromage et poivre- was probably the winner of the two due to this. It was perfectly cooked pasta in a delicious earthy peppery sauce topped with cheese. For the entrees, the steak frites - probably the best filet mignon i've had ever. It was perfectly cooked to the temperature asked for and it was incredibly tender and full of flavor. They do give you a large amount of fries for the plate . I definitely did not finish them and upon the server clearing the plates I personally had to ask to get it boxed. The tables itself are also pretty close together where we were seated - it was a wall of a booth paired with a chair on the other side and several tables lined that way. The couple beside us, we could overhear them celebrating a birthday as well and their server offered a complimentary chocolate cake. We got excited for when it came time to order dessert as we had indicated on the reservation we were celebrating. However, nothing was mentioned to us at all of this. I did not inquire, and instead ordered the creme brûlée which was delicious but not out of ordinary. It is a very large portion and definitely can be shared. Overall, nothing I ate or experienced would make me beg to come back here. Things like the missed complimentary cake or the salty salad or having to ask for boxing are things that shouldn't occur with michelin star restaurants. A star indicates exceptional service, a harmony of flavors not overwhelming saltiness , and consistency which is not offering one thing to one customer and not to the other. The highlight was definitely the steak but nothing else. I would say it's a one and done for me. read more

Four of us had a wonderful meal celebrating our June anniversaries. The broiled oysters, Caesar salad, and steak frittes are reasons alone to return and very shareable. Ahh I really wanted to love this place. It's so cute inside but Overall it was not as good as I hoped. I of course reserved a reservation a month in advance as soon as I heard about the star. Wow I mean what an accomplishment. As soon as we arrived we were seated. The tables are very small for the meal we purchased so If you're lucky to get the booth with two people as some did take it. Started off with the Colin's baguette because duh bread. Wow this was my favorite part of the visit. I ended up ordering 2. As first time visitors I was very disappointed with my server. She didn't ask if it was our first time or even give us a rundown of the menu or what was recomended ,I think what was more disappointing was the couple that sat to the right of me who ordered a bottle of wine was given the full run down of the menu. We shared the waitress but I was seated first and she treated them much better than my table. And then to the left of me I witnessed not one but 2 couples come and go with a waiter and he gave both couples a full run down. I just wish my service would have been better however the girl (Kate) who refilled the water was so attentive and kind to us. I wish she would have been our waitress. Back to the food after seeing and talking to a few who were disappointed with their items we decided to play it safe and order the Tomahawk Ribeye with melted broccoli rabe, green salad, duck fat fries and the sauces. First we ordered our ribeye medium well and our waitress said I'll cook it medium because you can cook up not down. Well our steak was for sure not medium well. It did taste good however it wasn't special. The garlic was good. As for the salad which came out first. It was so wet which was fine but very vinegary. The melted broccoli rabe was so salty we could barely eat it which was disappointing and as for the duck fat fries. Nothing special. Skinny string fries with garnish. As for the sauces. I liked the light white sauce and then the gravy and then the basil? Last . During my wait for my steak which they say takes around an hour to prepare so order early. I asked for more bread. Well after 20 minutes of waiting we asked the water server about our bread and I think she informed our waitress because she came back and said I'm sorry I heard you say you were good with bread, not that you wanted more. Do you still want it? And I said yes. Bread came out 5 minutes later. I feel like after spending $260 which didn't include alcohol because we didn't drink during this meal. I just happened to snag a 715 reservation on a Friday during restaurant week. We have been wanting to go for a while now. First off I love the ambience and vibe. I like that it's a smaller scale venue. Our server Mel is top notch amazing and very entertaining. We really enjoyed her. I decided to order from the restaurant week menu. The table started with the beef tartare, escargot (not pictured, we devoured it quickly) and Caesar salad. All of the above were delicious. I particularly loved the French butter that came w the baguette. I would say their Caesar is on my top 5 favorites. I prefer a strip steak vs a filet so I ordered the coulotte. It was tender and flavorful. I would order again. Our children joined us and they had ordered the burger, it was very flavorful. We ended the meal with creme brûlée and chocolate cake. Went in close to when they opened and they were already full! But put yourself on the waitlist, sometimes it isn't as long as predicted. We were able to get in at the happy hour/bar side. The staff were all pleasant to interact with. We ordered the Caesar salad to start and the beef tartare. Both were very delicious and reasonably priced. The steak and frites was my favorite. The sauce that comes with it is so delicious. And such a great price point! The place was busy but not too noisy. It has a very nice dim environment. My son was entertaining his new music manager and decided to go to Scoundrel. I had been here once before so I knew what to expect. Scoundrel has a great atmosphere, welcoming ambiance and the staff is very accommodating, helpful and friendly. We ordered a good bit of food and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I am a picky eater on a gluten free pescatarian diet BUT there is a lot of seafood that I do not eat so there wasn't a large selection for me to choose from. The menu selection is definitely unique but very fitting as Scoundrel is unique in its own right. I chose the chicken which was delicious but I wish I didn't have to adjust my regimen for a lack of options. That's really my only complaint. I would definitely recommend it to others. The best steak of my life by far. Succulent, well flavored, nicely seasoned without ruining the natural flavor, cooked exactly right, and not too fatty either. So I have had a variety of foods but never escargot or foie gras.. I had the opportunity to try both.as my party ordered both as an appetizer. So the escargot is just not for me ...but my friends loved it. The foie gras was good....just not my thing. The French fries --- were okay....again. I did not think they were that much better than some other places . (Just sayin) The Scottish salmon was delicious very different than how I am used to it being prepared My friends had the fish special which was a whole fish with shrimp and was quite a lot of meat. This was a lot even for two people.. I had a taste and fltl that it was okay... So if you like French food this may be a great place for you. Such a great experience! We went for Happy Hour with a group of 6 and sat in the lounge area. We were first in line, having gotten there at 4:30, 30 mins before the doors opened! We began with a couple of cosmos, an old fashioned, a glass of rose, plus a couple of drinks not on the Happy Hour menu, Miss Moneypenny and Red Lopez. All of the drinks were not skimpy on the alcohol! We ordered the escargot, fried panisse, grilled bone marrow, and steak tartare as appetizers. Everything was delicious, especially the steak tartare, so we ordered another! Then we all had the Lil Scoundrel burger and duck fat fries. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was so good, but the fries stole the show! We were so full, but we still shared the crème brûlée and the pistachio cronut for dessert! Forget about going to scoundrel's. March 1 I reserved a table for April 16 on a Thursday evening. My wife and I came home cleaned up and dressed up nicely to go to the restaurant. When greeted we were told that we had no reservation unless we have proof on an email receipt. This is the third time we tried to visit this restaurant and we will never go back. Happy Hour Done Right My wife and I stopped into Scoundrel for happy hour and were completely blown away. We sat in the cozy lounge chairs, which made the experience feel relaxed and intimate. The lighting was perfectly dimmed, and the music set just the right mood--not too loud, not too soft. We had the caviar, escargot, bone marrow, Caesar salad, burger, duck fat fries, and the house red wine--every dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The food was so good, we couldn't resist ordering dessert: the crème brûlée and fried croissant bites were the perfect finish. The food was so good we forgot to take pictures of everything.
