Fig was a pleasant surprise for a late lunch in Biltmore Village. After a full morning of sightseeing in the River Arts District, we stopped at Fig for something simple, but also had low expectations since the surrounding area seemed a bit touristy. We had the pup in tow so we were forced to sit outside on the patio where it was quite chilly. However, they offered us outdoor space heaters which kept us perfectly warm. Our server was super friendly and gave us great recommendations. I started with a cup of hot coffee but was quickly convinced to follow it up with a glass of red wine. I had to order the bolognese after recommendation from the server and it was fantastic. The pasta was al dente and the red sauce was tasty. I also tried the seasonal soup - the butternut squash, which was hearty and perfect on such a cold day. The egg salad sandwich was STACKED and topped with smoked salmon. My friend recently had her bridal luncheon here for her wedding in Asheville. This spot is SO cute! They set us up at a table on patio and it was perfect weather. The mimosas were so tasty and they definitely didn't skip out on the champagne. We split some charcuterie, salads and BLT and everything was amazingly delicious. Mostly a wine place, but we just needed a coffee and a place to sit for 20 minutes before our dinner reservation across the street. Out of drip coffee, so we ordered 2 americanos. Prepared in just a couple minutes. As we were leaving the hostess offered us a free donut as it was close to closing time. We decided to split the pumpkin donut. The coffee was great. I stopped in for lunch and I'm so glad I did. First of all, the lighting at lunch is fabulous. They have windows on both sides of the restaurant and it is just lovely. Bright, light, airy. Perfect lunch environment. Today I wanted something small and light so I asked my server what she suggested and she recommended the duck confit salad which was not on the menu so of course I went with that. This place is an absolute gym. I just came here for lunch and it was so delicious. Deviled eggs - beautifully presented just slightly lacking in flavor but not terrible. Grilled cheese- this has got to be the absolute best grilled cheese I've ever had in my life. The bread is toasted to perfection, it's light and buttery, and the combination of cheese and green apple is divine. My server's name was Ty or Tay. He made an old fashioned for me and it was his first time making one - I couldn't tell. This had to have been the most delicious old-fashioned I have ever tasted in my life. Place was clean and had a great ambiance. Food was plain boring and simple for what they charge. I had a lobster roll that was nothing like any lobster roll I tried. It came with a salad that was dry. I asked for extra dressing and it was overpowering with olive oil. My husband had a burger that was dry and no flavor. Lobster roll had barely any lobster. My wife and I ate lunch here on a Wednesday and sat outside in the courtyard. We got the cheese plate as an appetizer and I got the smash burger. My wife got the quiche. The food and service were outstanding. Unfortunately the only off putting thing was there was a man sleeping on a park bench in the courtyard outside the restaurant (about 40 feet away), who had 2 large bottles of malt liquor in front of him. He woke up and proceeded to urinate on one of the brick pillars of the building. Several female customers saw this happen. Not exactly what you want to see when you're eating a meal. read more

The food was fantastic! We compared it with Alice Water's Chez Panise restaurant in Berkeley CA but you don't have reserve 2 months in advance! Fig is a classic French bistro and has right the balance of excellent food and attentive service. The ambience is casually modern. Noise levels were not overly high and conversation was easy without having to shout. Their outside patio looked beautiful but the night we were there it was just a bit too cold, although they do have heaters. Might be perfect for outdoor dining during lunch service. Definitely check their website for hours. Lunch service is only during weekdays while dinner is only 4 nights per week I believe it's Thursday-Sunday. We'll definitely be back!! read more

What a gastronomic delight! The restaurant is limited on seating, but certainly not on the quality of their food. We stumbled across Fig Bistro while on an anniversary trip to Asheville from Chattanooga, TN. So glad we did. The owner and Meghan, our waitress, made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked through the door of this bustling establishment. Luckily, they were able to seat us, but I would highly recommend making a reservation because you don't want to miss this dining experience. We appreciated Meghan guiding us through the menu and libation choices. She was spot on in all respects. We can't wait until our next trip to this lovely city. No figs on the menu cause FIG stands for Food Is Good. And it is!!! Best meal we've had all summer. But the most amazing thing about our meal was the Cozy Fig cocktail. This is a hidden gem and a must for a fantastic meal in the Biltmore a village. It's a small place. I really enjoy sitting outside where there were only a handful of tables. It was very peaceful. The food, all of it is fresh and fantastic. I had the salmon that was crispy on the outside and a tiny raw on the inside. And it was perfect. The texture and taste was exquisite! I opted for the Bolognese, my wife for the pork tenderloin but we started with some papas fritas (fancy fries) which seem to be a local popular item as we noticed it on a lot of menus...there's was the best version we tried (with just the right amount of truffle oil). My Bolognese was simple but super tasty as was the pork loin. Drink choices were solid and we didn't have room for dessert. Reservation is highly recommended as this place seems popular. For parking, there is free parking in an underground parking lot right next to the building underneath some shops. Fig does have outdoor dining in the courtyard which was one of the reasons for the visit. As for food, we ordered the Steak Au Poivre with roasted fingerling potatoes and garlic haricot verts (similar to green beans) and Salmon with red potatoes, braised red cabbage, with a herb cream sauce. The steak itself was very juicy and the sauce was extremely flavorful. The salmon, cooked medium well, was cooked perfectly. I did wish for a bit more seasoning on the red potatoes and on the fingerling potatoes. The service was fantastic and our waiter was very courteous. read more

I truly hate to have to write reviews like this but based on the service I received and was told, "it's my banks fault" I will NEVER come here again. I was double-charged for my meal. I've had this happen before and been able to remedy it with ease. So I did the right thing and let them know via FB messenger. As I stated I was told it was my banks fault, which is a joke. I would suspect Capital One 360 is not in the habit of double charging people. Fig said call your bank and work it out. Capital One was very kind and scoffed at the fact that they had not ran my card twice, already knew that though. So I'm on vacation and if I report this to my bank via the computer my card would be shut down which I don't need. I called and my bank is taking care of me. Fact of the matter is though is that I had to spend my time while on vacation to fix this. That is unacceptable, period! The food was OK at best especially considering I paid $150 with tip. What I wouldn't do to take that tip back for my misery of dealing with jumping through the hoops of being refunded. Please watch out for this place unscrupulous charge practices. If you're not paying attention they will pull a fast one on you! read more

What a wonderful restaurant! The food choices were very diverse- ranging from vegan to meat containing. The lavender lemon Rossito was divine. The flounder special was served on baby black lentils and some interesting rice with a sauce that was incredibly delicious. We also had the timmed sardine appetizer served with salmon roe, a carrot salad and banquettes was also delicious. I usually don't eat sardines but my husband's Oooh's and ah's made me try them. Just saying... Fig is NOT accurate to refer to itself as a "French Bistro." More like an Italian-French fusion café maybe? I feel like I had a VERY expensive tomato soup and salad dinner. My husband had the escargot (in tomato sauce) and he referred to it as 'snails in rice and spaghetti sauce'. The atmosphere was way too loud and crowded. It was a chilly evening and my husband and I kept yelling across the table and our waiter kept having to ask us to repeat what we said and we had to ask him to repeat himself as well. Our waiter was great. He kept our glasses full and tried to hear us over the incredibly loud conversations all around us. He brought my husband a replacement fork and me a replacement napkin without being asked. The hostess was great. The people bringing the food to our table were friendly, but friendly couldn't overcome meh food or high prices. The food is absolutely not BAD: the snails were fresh, the salads were fresh, the soup tasted like tomato soup, but it did not live up to the value of what we were expecting. Most of the food had tomato. The duck was supposed to be served medium rare and it was served closer to rare. The brussel sprouts were more like shavings. The bean paste was flavorless except for the sweetness of the either raisin or fig mixed into the brussel sprouts. My husband said his short rib was good, but he laughed and asked me if I make my gnocchi on the grill, burned. I asked what he meant and he showed me his dark brown on one side gnocchi. Maybe it was boiled first? I hope! The Espresso is from a Nespresso machine. In my opinion, if I spend over $200 for a 4 course meal for 2, I want it to be more than something I can throw together myself at home in a half hour. We ate our entire meal. Like I said, the food wasn't inedible, just unmemorable (except for the excellent waitstaff and the unpleasant atmosphere and high price). No military discount here. This was the only restaurant we ate at this week that did not give us a military discount. read more

Very delightful little bistro. Menu is short but entrees are complete and creative as with apps and desserts. Two reasons I didn't give a five star, just didn't realize menu was short but again coverage for any taste was there. Only other downside, which was our fault, is it was a little hard to find. It kinda blended in and for first timers just a little hard to find. But, worth it, food and service were excellent! Ambiance was well appointed and just the right size.
