We love going to Moose Cafe! We have even driven all the way Asheville just to eat there for breakfast! Sure they have some of the states best biscuits but they also have great staff, great food and some of the best views. If you have never been there then check them out. If you have been there then you know!!!

Grits, slaw, pintos, apples

On a road trip? Don't miss this place! Genuine home cooking at its best. I had a vegetable plate: pinto beans that come with a side of chopped onion and delicious chow chow, coleslaw just right- not too sweet and not too creamy, grits of perfect consistency and spiced apples, also a nice square of cornbread- real cornbread- not that sweet cake like cornbread.

Every time I go to the Farmers Market I go by the Moose Cafe, and today finally stopped in for a late lunch. It was surprisingly busy for 2:30pm - usually a good sign. Noise level was very reasonable for the number of folks eating. I was seated immediately, and my server arrived before I even had time to settle in. I went for the meatloaf lunch, with mashed potatoes and gravy, and a side of sliced pickled beets and a biscuit. The slice of meatloaf was huge, but a bit bland. The biscuit was also huge, and darned near as good as my grandmothers. Mashed potatoes and gravy were creamy and tasty, and the beets were great. Interesting artworks for sale on the walls, and there was a small gift shop. Food was generally 3 1/2 stars, I rounded up to 4 for the biscuit and extremely quick service.

We were visiting the Asheville area while attending a conference at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. We had about 20 people in our group and they wanted to eat at the Moose Cafe. It was super busy on a Thursday at 1pm for lunch. We waited maybe 15 minutes to be seated. We weren't all able to seat together but we were close by. The waitress staff were super busy and we could tell they didn't have time to play around. Some were short answered and really didn't have time to really wait for the full question. I ordered the Homemade Meatloaf and it was big! In my opinion it was just OK. I had coleslaw and fries with it. The coleslaw was really good! The fries had great flavor. The food came out super fast. My wife order the Vegetable Plate. She said it good! We also loved the biscuit with apple butter (yum and the best!) I would give the biscuits and apple butter a 5 stars!!!! If we were in the area again I think we would come back but I would order something different.

Well our food plate was delicious in everything we got. The server was good not too friendly but she was in top of everything we need in the table as a drinks. Place is very nice for family to eat.

Food is a solid 3.5 but the staff rounds up to a 4. There was a crowd when we arrived for a late lunch on Sunday but it still only took 10 minutes to be seated, a rarity in Asheville. The servers were all super quick and attentive. The food is classic southern and comes out quick. Chicken and dumplings is a side. The tables are close together but not nosey. Checks are paid at the counter and I think that helps the tables turn quicker. We also love a restaurant with a gift shop that sells apple butter and every size of moose themed decor.

Great server! Upbeat and pleasant. It is such a fun place with lots of country decor including a deer head. We all had the Side Plate with a choice of 4 sides. There was a lot to choose from! I had the Collard Greens and Pinto Beans along with other fresh cantaloupe and Watermelon. It came with biscuits and cornbread. Wow! It was all delicious.

10 out of 10. I absolutely loved it! The service was excellent. The waitress was friendly and helpful. They even had an electronic code to scan and pay at the end. Loved this place. The food was delicious too! Very southern, casual vibes, great views too if you sit by the window! I had the fried fish and it came with the most delicious apples as a side!

Biscuits and apple butter

This is our regular go-to place when we visit Asheville. They have country cooking in a comfortable, casual setting. There is a small gift shop to buy items and they even sell local honey and jams. We didn't have a long wait. We were seated at a booth. They started us out with complimentary biscuits and apple butter. The biscuits were large and as soft as pillows. The apple butter was very light and not very rich-tasting like you normally find. Most meals you get a main entree and 2 sides. My favorite is the fried NC Mountain Trout. It's meaty and fried to perfection. The tartar sauce that comes with it is very good. For sides, I got the baked squash, which did not have much flavor, and chicken & dumplings, which I didn't like very much. It was too soupy with just thin strands of chicken and big globs of dough they were trying to pass off as noodles. All of us got it as a side but none of us liked it. One person got the chicken pot pie and it had good flavor, but the crust was on the bottom, and that was weird. It would have had better texture and crispness if the crust was on top. One person got the meatloaf and holy cow that piece was huge ! It was very light though in texture, not dense and heavy despite the size. The cornbread that came with all meals was very good and a bit sweet. They served beverages in cute little Mason jars. The restaurant is directly off I40, so very convenient and close to Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village, and the Farmer's Market. It has a nice view and huge windows throughout the restaurant.

Loud, bad service, food was okay. Wasn't what I was expecting and the moose burger was just "average" above McDonald's.

My daughter had the filet, which was cooked beautifully and just as delicious (although a bit small, as noted on the menu). The ambiance is cozy yet lively, and the place was absolutely packed... clearly a local favorite. Service was great, and the whole evening felt special from start to finish. I'll definitely make Chestnut a repeat stop whenever I'm traveling through Asheville. Highly recommend!

Our evening started with complimentary champagne....booked in advance and told the staff we were in town celebrating and they took great care of us. We skipped the apps, but were impressed that they offer smaller plates, along with their entrees. My wife ordered the 4 Oz filet, which was so tender that it didn't require a steak knife to cut it. Her butter knife was sufficient enough. Honestly, her fork would've been enough. You can tell they have good beef quality....the filet was very tasty. Was served with a sauce and whipped potatoes, along with fresh green beans. I ordered their scallops and polenta dish. Honestly, I think the garnish was a bit over the top.....however, their scallops were delicious and tender. I normally like a good sear but can appreciate how they prepared theirs. The seasoning was flavorful and their sauce with the garnish went well with it. The only mark I can make had to do with the polenta. It was quite tasty, but the consistency didn't match the description of the dish. Regardless, it paired very well with the scallops. Ended the night with complimentary dessert, which was their blackberry peach crumble with ice cream, which was delicious. One of the best desserts we've had in some time. Our waiter James was fantastic. He was great in describing dishes, and was timely with the service and making sure our drinks were taken care of. The manager on duty, Brooke, was wonderful as well and even extended well wishes on our celebration. All in all, their staff did a great job. You can also tell that the other tables got similar service as well. We had all intentions on coming back and checking out their brunch, which was highly recommended, but ended up doing something else the following day. This is a solid option for date night dining. Very intimate setting downtown. Parking is ridiculous to try and get close by, especially on a Friday night, but theres a parking deck under a mile away from the front door. This is another Asheville spot we'll have in the rotation. Very impressed and can't wait to try other options there in the future.

We hadn't had breakfast yet, but didn't want to be too full for lunch. We happened to park near Bebette's, so we popped in for a coffee and ordered beignets. We ordered inside and then grabbed a little table on the sidewalk of the quiet street. Our lattes and beignets were brought pretty quickly. the beignets (3 in an order) were steaming hot. And...OMG. The beignets were AMAZING. Truly some of the best beignets I've ever had, even compared to the several I had in New Orleans. I really wanted to try the beignet breakfast sandwich, but didn't want to get too full because of lunch. A couple sat next to us and we saw they had ordered the sandwiches. Wow. They were very large and looked incredibly delicious. On a future visit to Asheville, I'm definitely coming straight back for one of those for breakfast.

The navigation kind of got us a bit lost since but we eventually made our way to it. It's a small coffeehouse with limited staff. When we arrived they had to go get more dough so there was a bit of a delay. We got both got to iced lattes and two variations of beignets. The skinny finger sized ones and the classic squared. I loved that they served in traditionally in a brown paper bag and you kind of shake them up to get all the delicious powdered sugar on them. It was my friends first time trying them so I walked her through it because it can get messy quick lol while it did take a bit long for us to get our order, the two staff members were working hard to get us taken care of and at least give us the coffees first. Both lattes were great and we sat in a cozy corner to enjoy everything.
