WOW!!!! This is the real deal right here! Expect a wait at the opening time, that is how delicious and amazing this place is! A must visit/staple when visiting Asheville, NC! I was grateful to be able to get a seat at the bar, with a less than 10 minute wait. It is honestly worth it! The staff was warm and welcoming, even with tending to loads of customers (this is a true skill and art). The ambiance is upbeat and lively! Imagine a roadside breakfast parlor. I sat at the bar and it was good vibes! The hostess used to live in my hometown (who woulda thunk it) & I met the coolest guy from Boston, who has a golden doodle named Nugget back home. Good vibes all the way, which added to a special experience. He was flying back home after his meal. Now, onto the food (the part you all have been patiently waiting for). I ordered a hibiscus tea as my beverage (warm and refreshing). I also ordered the carrot cake hotcakes, a side of bacon, and a side of home fries. The carrot hotcakes were luscious! They came with hazelnut butter, and amazing syrup!!! These hotcakes were savory and filling! The bacon had an essence of hickory! A perfect medley between crispy and tender! The home fries were seasoned nicely and I doused them with ketchup and hot sauce! This was an iconic and memorable restaurant experience for me! This breakfast spot is a must go when in Asheville. There will most likely be a wait the later you go in the morning, but it's so worth it. We went in early April and were seated inside. They have a great drink menu with dairy free options! I enjoyed a vanilla latte with oat milk and my friend liked her cappuccino. It's a pretty big menu with huge portions. It has a local breakfast joint diner vibe that is super cozy. It can get packed, but not in a bad way. My best friend got the breakfast burrito, she loved it and had leftovers because it was huge. I got the our favorite breakfast sandwich and also loved my pick. The side potatoes were really yummy too. I highly recommend this iconic brunch spot. read more

Sunny Point café has been an Asheville staple for a long time. We discovered it around 10 years ago and have been going every time we visit Asheville since then. The vibe is amazing. I love being able to sit outside and walk through the garden while drinking delicious coffee. The only issue with that can be on a cold morning. You can go next-door to warm up and get a pastry while you wait as the only con can be that there's often a long wait. The food is amazing! This time I ordered a chicken waffle sandwich with cheese grits. We ordered a plate of freshly made biscuits. They also had delicious butter and gravy for the biscuits. What a perfect spot! Amazing vibes inside and out, you'll likely encounter a wait no matter what day or time you go, but service moves quickly. The menu is so eclectic, I loved the focus on farm to table fresh ingredients. The peach pound cake bites are a must!! We couldn't stop eating them, it was our favorite bite of the meal. I recommended this place to quite a few people, one of them said rightly... "where is your Yelp review?" which is a totally fair statement. SO here it is, and it's glowing, which should not be a surprise if you read the thousands of other excellent reviews. We came here on an autumn weekday morning, like a Thursday. Walk around the arts district, and hopefully enjoy a nice mountain day. Inside, you could tell this place has become a well oiled machine, as they expect to be busy every day. Our server was somehow both laid back and enthusiastic. She made solid recommendations, though she definitely pulled a fast one over on us. Offered some kind of a special mimosa to drink. I didn't ask how much, because ffs... it's a mimosa. How expensive could it be? The answer was more than our appetizer. Clever girl. No wonder less people drink alcohol these days. Moving on, said appetizer, the pork belly wonton nachos was phenomenal. Everything from the perfectly crispy wonton chips, to the crispy outside, but well rendered pork, and the crema... definitely would have just ordered a 2nd round of these, not a "special" mimosa. I had shrimp and grits for the meal, and my gal had the chicken and waffles sandwich. Honestly, hard to tell who made the better choice. Both were oustanding. The shrimp and grits uses a red-eye gravy, tangy and a bit salty, but worked well with the creamy grits. A good portion of shrimp in there, not amazing, but good. Taste was definitely A+. My bite of her chicken and waffles sandwich, also a firm A+. Would also point out our excellent, not ridiculous mimosa priced, sweet teas that we should have just stuck with. Had to wait quite a while for a table on a Sunday morning. But it was nice out and we wandered around the garden and chatted. We were finally seated after about 40 minutes at a decent table inside in the corner. Very good variety of menu options and was hard to decide what to order, the waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and recommended a few things. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered, even though the waitress would ask if you would like avocado or cheese or a special butter with your meal and never mentioned there was an extra cost for any of it. Sunny Point has been good-to-excellent every time we've been there. This is one of those places that you need to visit if you have only a couple days in Asheville. Is the parking terrible? Yes! Is the waiting time annoyingly long? Absolutely! But we try to only come on weekdays, and everything we've had here has impressively good for what I consider reasonable prices. This place is West Asheville, through-and-through. Generally good service, but occasionally they can seem a little short-staffed. Extremely busy and parking is very very limited. There is a pay park across the street. Spots seem to open up quickly. Checked in and told an hour wait. Stepped over to the Rabbit Hole for a coffee while we waited. So it was pretty much right on an hour but we got bumped up by being ok with sitting at the bar. Pretty cool watching the food get made and chatting with the barista. Margo and Eli were very friendly and cool. So for food I got the figgin chicken. So delicious!! The full bite with the chicken, Brie, fig jam and mustard was so good. Chicken so tender. Had the mushroom soup as a side. Loaded with mushrooms. Really good. Deb had the stuffed French toast. We did have a forty minute wait for a table, but it was Sunday morning. There is a lovely little garden to wait in and you can order and have a beverage while you wait. I had the Mighty Good breakfast with the pepper bacon and home fries it was delicious and more than enough to eat. This restaurant is definitely a go to for a lot of people and at first I was hesitant to be let down. We arrived pretty early and still had around 20-30 min wait. They have a little cafe in another building next to this and we headed over for coffee and waited out of the snow. It was also delicious. They texted us for our table when it was ready . I got the huevos rancheros and they were perfect! I got no beans and was offered a sub for extra egg. What I assume was green tomatillo sauce was perfectly balanced and it was so flavorful. The carrot hot cakes are to die for!! Wow! Perfectly made, delicious whipped cream cheese on top. I'd come back here just for these over and over but everything was sooo good! The food here is absolutely amazing, but the lack of parking, the wait time to be seated, and the wait time for the food is just not the move. My mom and I arrived here on a Sunday a little bit before 9:30am. Their lot is so tiny that you most likely will have to find street parking in the nearby neighborhood. We were lucky and found one spot right away, but if that spot wasn't available...it was going to be a long walk to the restaurant. We put our name and number in and were quoted a 35 minute wait. It ended up being a 45 minute wait. They have a nice outdoor seating area while you wait for your table or you can browse their small bakery next door. Once it was our turn, I received a text and checked in with the hostess. She escorted us to our table and our server took our drink order (of waters) right away. However, I had to remind him after a few minutes to bring us waters because he forgot. They have a decent sized separate vegan menu so be sure to ask for it if that is your dietary preference. I ordered the carrot hotcakes and a side of fruit. It then took about 40 minutes for our food to come out once we ordered. My pancakes were SO good. It truly tasted like carrot cake in pancake form. The fruit was fresh with actual good fruit picks too (an orange, pineapple, grapes, blueberries, a strawberry, and black berries). Overall, I would go here again but only if i got there before 9am on a weekend to hopefully avoid a crowd. It was a bummer to spend our whole morning waiting to be seated and then for food. read more

This place serves one of the best brunches I've ever had, and brunch is my favorite meal! Although I like to try new places when on vacation, this eatery has a solid spot on my go-to places list when visiting Asheville. There are so many things on the menu I wanted to try because they are so unique. On my latest visit, I got the green shakshuka, which was truly out of this world. The broth - which was different from any shakshuka I've had before - was so warm and comforting on a chilly winter day. The greens from their garden were so vibrant and fresh, really pulling all the flavors together. Sunny Point is a staple stop when visiting Asheville. Always a popular spot with friendly service and understandably a wait; however, it's a nice little walk around West Asheville. Very dog friendly, with little treats for the fur babies, and lots of seats outside to chit chat while you wait for your table. Service moves pretty quickly once seated and the food is always so yum. There's a whole community in Asheville who prefer an organic style eating and dining. These kind of places serve kale salads, sweet potato hash browns and other like foods.. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that kind of dining. I'm more old-fashioned, preferring my poached eggs served with 'home fries' - the kind that are diced and perhaps prepared with grilled onions, sometimes with green and red pepper. Actually that preparation is called O'Brien potatoes, but very few know that. There was such a mixture of pros and cons after having brunch here. The outdoor seating and the garden are gorgeous and a lovely place to sit. After waiting an hour and a half for a table, the biggest issue was that our service was extremely slow, we ended up being here for over 3 hours which is insane. The food and drinks were great, but not worth the wait at all. The server we had was very friendly and helpful, an even recognized that we were waiting for ages, but did not do anything to try and improve the situation, even just a drink off the bill would have been appreciated. We were looking for a good breakfast spot in Ashville, and thought we found it at Sunny Point Cafe, but we were sadly mistaken! While the food looked decent, a few things really took away from the experience. First, parking was a hassle--the lot is small, making it tough to find a spot, we had to park across the street and walk to the restaurant. The building itself could use a makeover, as it looks a bit rundown and the tables are small and crammed close together. However, the biggest issue was a fellow customer openly sharing his meal with his dog, using the same fork he was eating with and even placing his plate on the ground for the slobbering dog to finish and lick clean as he held it down with his paw. This was extremely unsanitary and made me nauseous. Shockingly, none of the staff or management intervened, which raises serious public health concerns. I understand that some places are pet-friendly, or this may have been a service dog; and don't get me wrong, I love dogs and have one myself, but there should be reasonable limits when it comes to hygiene in a restaurant. Unfortunately, this experience overshadowed our desire to dine here and we left. They need to improve cleanliness and enforcement of basic health standards. read more

Visiting from out of town and was so excited we discovered Sunny Point! Went early on a Wednesday morning and had to wait about 15 minutes for 2 people. We didn't mind the wait since it gave us time to walk around / sit in their beautiful garden. They have a separate vegan menu you have to ask for. My husband and I both got the green shakshuka (one with no cheese and gluten-free toast) and it was SO good. So good that we got it again for takeout the day we were leaving town. I'll tell you the truth. Anytime I'm in Asheville looking for good brunch food, I'll visit Sunny Point and never hesitate or doubt it - even if there's a wait. This restaurant serves a wide variety of delicious and more "traditional" breakfast and brunch options in a casual, cozy environment. Think shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, eggs + potatoes + deliciousness + carbs etc. They also serve a nice variety of "breakfast cocktails" like mimosas and bloody Mary's. Extra kudos - they have NA breakfast cocktails too! I can imagine that most times this place has a wait. However, the bakery next door (which is owned by them/ the same establishment) serves pastries/coffee and drinks. During our wait we walked over and played chess! They have board games and such so we weren't bored and had somewhere warm to sit while we waited. While I was next door, our table was ready before I'd finished my mimosa - and we just walked over with our drinks via the little garden and sat down for brunch with no rush or running around. Being able to just play a quick board game was really nice and allowed us to relax pre-food. Everything was DELICIOUS, well-thought and came out hot and fresh. I love that you can get veggie chorizo as a replacement for meat in many dishes. The shrimp and grits were very Cajun/Creole flavored and AMAZING. The huevos rancheros were super hearty and flavorful. Just overall - the food was filling, hearty and tasted incredible. FURTHER COOLNESS: The pups are allowed in their outdoor areas so be prepared to see cuteness and fluff. Outside they have an ADORABLE garden area with added seating. It's appropriate for the kiddos as well - so bring the whole family. The only con is - parking can be a little challenging when they're super busy. Fortunately - my overall experience was so positive that it doesn't deduct any points. I loved this place and will be back every chance I get. New favorite brunch spot in AVL unlocked. read more

I knew ahead of time that they don't take reservations, and that parking may be difficult. All true, and depending on the time you go, you may have to wait up to an hour for a table! Another ~30 minutes for the food. Despite all of this, we were all willing to try the food bc it *has* to be good. And it was! Every dish was flavorful, and I'd definitely order each one again if I didn't also want to try so many of their other menu items! I loved the smoked salmon rosti, it had a bright citrus zing with the smoky salmon and bitter arugula. I wish they had hashbrowns as a side to order with the crema. The potatoes were nice and crisp. The chicken and waffles had a sweet spice from the jam, some pimento cheesy tang, and thick maple pepper bacon. No syrup or honey needed, though if that's preferred, it would still be good. The huevos rancheros here was different from most places I've gotten it from, but delicious all the same. It was crunchy and creamy, the black bean cake it has was a nice surprise too! The omelette was stuffed and comes with a biscuit and a side, which made it one of the more heavy items we ordered. A classic breakfast with not so classic yet yummy filling. The southern crab cake benny with added bacon and avocado (not necessary in the slightest) unsurprisingly was also tasty. You can taste the crab, and it's great with egg yolk and hollandaise. We were so pleased with our food, we considered returning the next day for it. For those who aren't particularly patient, I still would recommend getting in line and waiting for a table. Sunny Point Cafe has a little garden to explore, but you can walk around the surrounding area. You may find something interesting. I certainly did! read more

We found some paid parking in a church lot close by. We did have a wait, but it was short, and the outside waiting area is very pleasant. They have water and coffee available while you wait. We sat outside, which was very nice. Our waitress was very attentive. I ordered the Greens Shakshuka. It was simple ingredients, perfectly executed. I would have this every week if I lived close. First breakfast of my Asheville vacation and it was stellar. They set the bar too high because today's breakfast elsewhere was just OK. We got there about 20 minutes after opening and the tiny parking area was unsurprisingly full. It took 5 minutes or so to drive in and out of the streets nearby to find a spot. That was fine, but certainly something to consider, especially if you come later. Loved the outdoor host stand (I assume a COVID holdover). Line was short and moved quickly. Host was pleasant and seated us inside. Our waiter was fantastic. I wish I was good at remembering names! He gave my mom a free taste of their bacon, which she said was delicious. We both loved our selections. I had the Fall omelette with spinach, butternut squash, and goat cheese. It came with a homemade biscuit (ah-may-zing!) and fresh fruit. This place is one of those places that everybody needs to stop by at least once. I don't think I would ever come with a large group because it could be very chaotic however, the food is delicious though the wait time can be a little bit long so have your patient cap on, and make sure you order a cocktail. I don't care if it's only a 9:00 in the morning get the cocktail because it's going to take a minute before you get your breakfast.
