Today we tried the classic biscuit sandwich - cat head biscuit with an egg and cheese. It was phenomenal- also very big! For a side we choose the cheesy grits. They were also very tasty. It's been months and I'm still thinking about these biscuits and gravy... On our last day in NC, we stopped by Biscuit Head to try biscuits and gravy to go. The ordering process online was super easy, and their text updates made it easy to know when our order was ready. I'm grateful for the two sided line-- one for dine in and one for takeout-- so I didn't have to wait in the fairly long dine in line. Pickup was a breeze, but I will say there wasn't a ton of seating outside. We were on our way to the airport, so it would've been nice to have a place to sit and munch before we had to leave. The biscuit was SO tasty; super buttery and flaky. But the star of the show? That gravy. Not too soupy but not solid, had a good amount of seasoning, but didn't overpower the buttery biscuit. Come hungry...then realize you didn't actually need to worry! The mimosa fried chicken looked intimidating at first. It's a mountain of food, but surprisingly it didn't feel heavy. The coleslaw helped balance things out with a nice refreshing crunch. The mimosa flavor on the chicken was very subtle though, almost hard to notice. The Filthy Animal was great and the gravy was fantastic. Honestly though, the smaller things stole the show. The iced bacon maple latte was excellent and the jam bar is such a fun touch. Peach rosemary was our favorite. Watch out for the chili mango jam. It has a real spicy kick in the best way. Even the bottled hot sauces were unique and worth trying. The biscuits tasted like Bisquick, the sausage gravy tasted more fatty than any other I've eaten (even dive restaurants that only take cash), and the pimento cheese grits didn't taste like any pimento cheese I've have before. While this may be a local favorite, it is not the Southern food I've had in South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, or the Eastern part of North Carolina. There is a bar with butters, jams and jellies. A biscuit is a necessary purchase so you can sample the variety of delicious toppings. I wanted to like the place more than I actually did. I ordered the biscuit + special bacon and my husband got the Fried Green Tomato Biscuit dish. He really enjoyed his fried green tomato and thought that made the dish. My bacon was pretty good but the biscuit was just okay. They have a butter and jam station where you can try different samplings. However, the butter was rock hard and I couldn't get any out. And the paper containers that you put the sample jams in was utterly small so trying to get the jams in the small cups to bring to your table was just a sticky mess. Also, the bacon was all curled up, which I didn't like. I prefer my bacon in flat strips, not in these bacon balls that they served. The home fries were seasoned perfectly. They were delicious and the biscuit was pretty good too. My partner ordered the strawberry and banana pancakes that were on special. She sent back her first order because the whipped cream had melted all over the pancakes and it just did not look appetizing. However, when they remade the pancakes, they brought them back with no fresh strawberry slices like they had originally came out the first time. Apparently, they ran out of fresh strawberries. She did like her pancakes. They did have strawberries in the batter which you could taste. I ordered an orange cherry spiced mimosa. I didn't taste any cherry but what's not to like about a mimosa. The star of the show was definitely the Jam Bar. I got samples of a lot of different jams and most were amazing. I later purchased the Sweet Potato Butter which was fantastic. They do sell each of the jams so that's a win. As we were ordering our food, we got to see other people's food come out. The biscuits are huge and fluffy! I must say everything on a biscuit looked spectacular, especially that Mimosa Chicken biscuit. Between the four of us, we had the Fried Tomato Biscuit, a Biscuit with Sausage Gravy, the Asheville Benedict, and the Full Breakfast with two over easy eggs, fried green tomatoes, bacon, and a cat head biscuit. The only person who wasn't totally in love with her meal was the one with the fried tomato biscuit (she said it wasn't hot enough), but the rest of us really enjoyed our meals. I was totally impressed by their butter and jam bar with all the flavored butters and different delicious jams. There were so many unique flavors of jam; sour cherry, rosemary peach, chai sweet potato, apple pie, and mango chili along with the regular berry and strawberry. My family and I were visiting the Biltmore early in the morning and needed a place to grab breakfast beforehand. I saw that Biscuit Head opened at 8:00am and other Yelpers said to make sure to arrive right when they open. We arrived at 7:55am and there was a line of people waiting to get seated inside. It's a bit hidden from the since the entrance doesn't face the main road but we were able to find it with the GPS. I was surprised how busy it was even on a Monday morning. It definitely seems like a local spot. You order at the counter and the staff brings your food over to your table. I had the Southern Scramble and it was delicious!
