Szechuan Wontons - I love the heat!
    Robert C.

I've reviewed various lists of best restaurants in Asheville and Red Ginger is nowhere to be found. This is surprising because the dim sum and other Asian small plates are all freshly and professionally prepared, not to mention delicious. We've eaten at Red Ginger twice and selected different items each time. They were each and all very good, it's hard to select a favorite. Maybe it's the Szechuan Wontons, I love the heat. Or maybe the Gua Bao, the small pancake buns are expertly made. We had the Tuna Tataki this time, so fresh and flavorful. After ordering we saw tables with Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings. We either missed these or they were an off-menu special. Im sure they were delicious. And we missed out on the Sticky Rice, the kitchen happened to be out when we dined there (sadness). Red Ginger doesn't take reservations. I recommend arriving for an early dinner to avoid a wait.

Some colleagues recommended this Asian restaurant and I had big expectations. The place is spacious and clean. We walked there since we were staying in a hotel nearby, so not sure about parking availability. I had the best wonton soup I've ever had, so by then I already knew this was a great selection. Some of my colleagues ordered two of the green beans, and they insisted that I should try it. The green beans were delicious and they quickly devoured those. I also ordered sushi and it was amazing. The hot sake made the experience even better. Our servers were attentive and pleasant. Overall, everyone was highly satisfied w their food and I will definitely come back next time I visit Asheville!

Recently on a trip to Asheville my husband and I visited red Ginger after what felt like hundreds of positive reviews from everyone we came in contact with so naturally we saved it for our last dinner of the trip and I'm so happy we did because I've been dreaming about the dim sum the crispy chicken and the fried rice ever since! If you find yourself visiting Asheville, this is a restaurant that you absolutely must visit

Was in Downtown Ashville for the day and was really craving some Chinese/Dimsum which unless you are in Ashville you are not going to find in the area. I pulled up Yelp and found the Red Ginger was only a 5 minute walk away so we headed in that direction. We came in for lunch and were able to get seated no problem. I will say Red Ginger is much better inside then I thought it was which was great. Once seated we looked over the menu and drinks of course too. I went with the 5 Spice Old Fashioned and Ashley got the Lychee Bellini which be both enjoyed. I will say Ashley mom though picked the winner drink wise. She got the Apple Valley Mule which we all agreed was the best of the 3. We of course went with a number of options since we love our Dimsum. We went with: Chicken Lettuce Wraps Pork Dumpling in Shanghai Style Gua Bao Spicy Chicken 5 Spice Chicken Vegetable Fried Rice Salt & Pepper Prawn We enjoyed all of it for sure but if I had to go with my favorites I would have to say my top 2 picks would be the Gua Bao and the Spicy Chicken. The Gua Bao might have been the best I have had. The pancake was so soft and perfectly streaming. The Pork Belly had so much flavor and just melted in your mouth these are a much try. The Spicy Chicken was also full of flavor. I liked how it was wok fried so it wasn't super heavy and the spicy level was great. Even if you're not a spicy person you can still handle this and the flavor is where it's at. Red Ginger if a must of you are looking for Dimsum or Chinese in Downtown Ashville.

Expected a bit more from the reviews. The dumplings and potstickers were standard fare, but the beef soup was a letdown due to the quality of the meat (too much gristle). Thankfully, the green bean sauté was delicious and saved the meal from being a total wash. It's an okay spot if you're nearby, but there are better options in Asheville. Our server was nice, but not very attentive.

    Garlic bok choy...delicious

We've eaten here twice now, over the past few years, and love it!! Service is super friendly, the spot is beautifully decorated, and food is delicious. We ordered an array of delicious dishes to share but the Scallion pancakes and the garlic sautéed bok choy were flavor stand outs!!!

Food was tasty, a little larger portions than we expected. Favorite food in order of preference - the best was Chow Fun, lettuce wrap, chicken wings, Bao and finally the Dan Dan Noodles. Chow fun was so tasty! Service was good. Decor was nice. We sat at the front by the door and it was very cold outside so we froze every time the door opened.

On a short vacation in NC we got this recommendation from a friend and it was really a good place to be in. The servers were good and gave a clear idea and expectations as we were a big group . The ambiance was cozy . The calamari was really crispy and crunchy . I generally dislike but it was really good . The grilled trout, spicy buns , garlic fusion wings , spice crispy chicken and all other dishes were really good. They give you a discount coupon to Sweet and Seats dessert place on the other side of the street, which is pretty fancy and good sweets.

The food was excellent. Even though they're supposed to be small plates, I frankly found that they were a little more than a small plate so pace yourself. When ordering there's a lot of gluten-free options to choose from the food comes out pretty quickly. The service was very nice and very attentive. It was a cool Asian ambience. It felt more like a Thai type of restaurant. The prices were very reasonable. I have to comment on the fried rice which I thought was better than any fried rice I've had in the past. The edamame portion was very large. Usually, I could eat the whole portion myself, but this was enough for three people, and it wasn't overly salty so it was perfect.

Is it possible to give out more than 5 stars? Red Ginger is the perfect spot if you want to try a little bit of everything. I went here for a late lunch with my mom and we ordered a few dishes to share. We shared seaweed salad, pan-fried veggie dumplings, and crispy spring roles. My mom ordered another dish for herself - home style tofu stir-fry, but I picked at it for the vegetables. Everything was delicious and a decent amount of food for the price. It also came out in rounds so everything wasn't in front of us all at once which I liked. It might sound plain, but I thought the best dishes were the seaweed salad and the vegetables from my mom's stir-fry. We sat outside and they had a nice porch area connected to their restaurant. Service was quick and attentive. Red Ginger is located in downtown Asheville so there is no designated parking lot, but there was a parking garage right behind the restaurant. Parking was also affordable. I believe it was $1 for the first and second 30 minutes and then $1 for every hour after.

10/10 the most amazing calamari we've had. The food was amazing! We wish we could go back and definitely will if we're back in the area. We ordered several items to share and everything was so delicious and packed with so much flavor! The sticky rice came a little later and we were so full that we took it to go; still so good the next day! The restaurant was busy but we were able to get seated within 5 minutes and all the staff were so nice and helpful. The restrooms were easy to find and they have a bar area for seating as well.

Me and my husband stumbled on this restaurant when walking downtown during our Asheville visit. We saw that the line was out the door and figured it was the place to be! They had all their accolades posted right when you walk in, so we knew it must be legit. Our food was so good! Our waiter was very attentive. The ambiance was outstanding. I'm glad that we came here instead of eating where we had initially planned! Note: The food comes out to the table as it is prepared. Therefore, I had to wait a little longer for my grilled chicken skewers when we already had the rest of our food.

For our first time here, it was great! The service was excellent. Our waiter marked on the menu his top choices to choose from ,which made it less daunting to order. My fiancé and I tried multiple things. I had the pork dumpling Shanghai style which was very tasty. They fell apart because it was so juicy, but it was worth it. Very flavorful and happy to eat again in the future. I also tried the 5 spice crispy chicken, which was okay. There wasn't a lot of spice for it to represent its name. Also wasn't seasoned evenly; some pieces had more flavor than others. But overall, it was crispy which is what I wanted from it. Finally, I had the lychee Bellini. Straight champagne with a hint of lychee by the end of the drink. My fiancé tried steamed bbq pork buns which had good breading, but the flavor was a bit lackluster. He also tried beef noodle soup. Beef was flavorful and tender, not a lot of it though in the actual soup. Broth was good but not as spicy like he expected, still worth it. And he had a Shanghai Rose which was tart and good.

Ask the Community - Red Ginger Dimsum And Tapas

Is dim sum served all day?

Yes!!! I highly recommend their soup dumplings! Whole menu is available all day :) enjoy and don't forget to tip your servers!

    Are they allowing reservations?

No reservations, first come, first served.

Do they make their own pot-stickers now that Shanghai Dumplings opened, a couple of the pictures made them look better than the pre-made frozen ones they were using? Their Shu mai and chili oil dumplings were all solid, but pot stickers were blah

How much does Membership Cost and is it needed when doing Carryout or pick up of food?

I have eaten there several times and I don't know anything about a membership. They may have one for discounts or something but I've never needed one to eat there in the past. I ate there about a month ago and did not have a membership or see… Read more

Do they have high chairs for toddlers?

    Yes.

Two questions: One, do they have a parking lot? and Two, do they have dim sum carts? Thanks so…

Hi Lucy! No parking lot, but street parking is not hard to find and there are parking garages near by that are really cheap! We paid around $2.50 for a few hours. I don't think there are any carts either, but the food is incredible! Definitely check… Read more

Do they allow dogs on their outdoor porch?

I can't say 100% yes, but it's Asheville. Very dog and surprisingly, people friendly. Dogs are way cooler than people.

Are any of the vegetarian options vegan?

    Yes
