Very good food, though it feels over priced for tourists definitely feel like you need a side to go with your entree, but our server was super friendly

When you go to @Gemelli.avl for dinner of course you order their namesake dish. The house white wine was also delicious. Not pictured, the best arancini I've had yet.

I wasn't a huge fan of Gemelli as it existed at its former location. But its reincarnation in a beautifully restored historic building in Biltmore Village with a largely new menu completely changed my mind for the better. First, they did an amazing job on the interior. it's aesthetically beautiful but also homey and comfortable. A great combination. Putting this much money into refurbishing a building that is in a flood zone (at least minor, if not the "100 year" flood from Hurricane Helene), takes passion and guts. Kudos to them for investing in preserving Asheville! But an attractive interior alone doesn't guarantee a great restaurant. That really comes down to the food, as well as the service. Both are outstanding here. The service from beginning to end was friendly and attentive at the right level. But it's the food that will bring me back here. Let's start with the arancini appetizer: three large rice balls fried to perfect crispiness and full of tasty rice and cheese. The vodka sauce sealed the deal. Highly recommended! It's rare to find a vegetarian version of these, but no meat is needed in this stellar recipe. For entrees, we had lasagna, bucatini, truffle mushroom risotto and cacio e pepe. Serving sizes were good; the risotto was actually quite large. All the entrees were very good, but I'd have to give the nod to the cacio e pepe for being outstanding. This is a relatively simple dish in terms of ingredients, so when a restaurant can get it to this level, it's an amazing thing. It had all the richness and taste of a great alfredo, with more nuance and without the heaviness. Part of what makes this dish so good here comes down to the pasta that they make daily on-site. Some of the best pasta I've had. Even after these meals, we couldn't pass up dessert. Both the cannoli with its orange zest finish and the tiramisu with its multi-layer complexity were excellent. The tiramisu for its size might be a tad over-priced, but still worth it if you appreciate great tiramisu. My only suggestion comes down to bread, or lack thereof. They make bread on-site, but if you want it, you need to purchase bread service as an appetizer. If you order other appetizers, as we did, it feels excessive to order a bread service. My suggestion is to include one piece of bread as a side with all entrees. Not too much to ask I think. Hopefully someone from Gemelli will see this and make this improvement to their food service. Lastly, they have a good cocktail and wine selection, and a decent beer selection, including a couple of Italian beers. Highly recommended. We'll definitely come back.

Excellent pasta and dessert. Very authentic Italian. Lasagna some of best I've ever had and gelato very smooth and homemade texture. Tiramisu so tasty and moist. Service spot on and very relaxed , refined , and comfortable atmosphere. Little bit loud but tolerable. Definitely be back and looking forward to breakfast service for a brunch affogato!

This is a hidden gem in a strip mall! You must try it! We started off with the homemade foccacia and mussels. The bread was delicious and served hot. The mussels were flavorful and cooked perfectly. I ordered the chefs special which was beef tips, fingerling potatoes and asparagus. The beef was very flavorful and so tender! I could cut it with a butter knife. My husband had the ragu which had homemade pasta and was very good. We were too full for dessert but they had some delicious options. Service was fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is really well decorated and you would never know you were in a strip mall!

Food was amazing!! Had the vodka pasta and Cesar salad. Service was quick and waitress was super friendly. Cocktails were delicious. The inside of the place is cozy and we'll decorated to match the Italian theme. 10/10 would recommend!

I showed up here to blow a $50 gift card that I got for Christmas. Service and ambiance worked out well, especially for a newly opened location. For my first course, I got the calamari, served with a garlic aioli, shishito peppers, and a grilled lemon. The calamari was perfectly crispy and generously salted, the shishito peppers were soft, and the aioli reminded me of the one from Baby Bull. For my second course, I got the gluten-sensitive version of the bucatini, made with cured lamb sausage, broccolini, anchovy lamb fat butter, and grana padano. The GF pasta was cooked perfectly, as were the meat, and veg (including the garlic and scallions). All of the flavors worked in Italian harmony. For my third and final course, I got the risotto, made with saffron and leeks. The rice was cooked perfectly and the garnish added excellent flavor. Overall, this is true Italian cuisine and the perfect 110th review.

First time dining here and we loved it! We ordered the fried artichokes- YUM! The ravioli were out of this world, best pasta dish I've had in a while - Tre formmagi-stuffed, verde crema, pistachio, torn basil, & grana. The burrata alla vodka - Creste di gallo, vodka sauce, burrata, & basil - also delicious. My boyfriend and i always share so it was nice to go back and forth between the two very different dishes. For desert we got the tiramisu, super delicious. Service was on point and very nice. Ambiance was nice with dim but not dark lighting and LOVE the couch dining and was very happy they accommodated the request for the couch. :)

With mostly empty seats, the hostess seated us nearest to the door, maybe everything was booked, let's hope. The lady leaded back to the wall after us, got served with water and things, no waiters even cast their glance while we were waiting. Finally, a guy with an apron saw us waiting, brought water and took our order. I had read great reviews about this place, but first impression is disappointing

Delicious, authentic Italian food! Like nothing you'll get anywhere else. It was absolutely the most wonderful meal. Fantastic ambience, the server was great and the cocktails were tasty :-) we got bread as an appetizer and it was beyond delicious as well as the fried artichokes! Wow! It is reasonably priced and extremely delicious. We highly recommend.

What a WONDERFUL find!!!! Gemelli is exactly as I had hoped, no disappointment here. When we are in town, we will be here. This time was for breakfast. The restaurant sets in a strip mall, so the parking is abundant. Inside is just the same, abundant amounts of comfortable seating. The ambiance here is delightful. The service is great, and serving staff is very polite and respectful. Their attentiveness to our table was very much appreciated. When you enter, approach the counter and order there before being seated. Try the Tuscan Poached Eggs......Oh My sweetbabyjeebus!!! Either that, the Forage Skillet Frittata, or the Benedict Hash. These are all wonderful brunch items. Definitely stop in and feed your inner Italian!!! You all have it, you just need reminders

I had ordered their Philly cheese steak with auju and it was sooooo filling, I love a hearty breakfast, but I could only finish one half. I ordered their local sausage patty and it was nice and Smokey and savory! The grits were chunky and cheesy which I really enjoyed, everything was great! Love it! My partner ordered a classic breakfast and their maple bacon is sooooooooo good, I told him he needed to learn to make it because I want more! Their fruits seemed home grown and I really appreciate their decor of sexy veggies on the way! Such a cool place to eat and hang out!

Cracker Barrel would have been a step up. Haven't been to this hipster, that has turned into more of a tourist trap breakfast cafe in years and probably won't go back anytime soon. Salad was basically a lettuce mix with nothing else? Added shrimp was ok. I guess a restaurant can cruise on a reputation that they once had for awhile(?) until folks realize it's just not that same restaurant anymore. Still a cute venue. Bottom line an overpriced mediocre hospital cafeteria meal that could have been a good meal with a little bit of TLC (tender loving care)...

Biltmore Village is pretty sleepy so didn't see many other options to eat besides this, but it was pretty good. We had a 7:30pm Sunday reservation and asked if we could sit on the patio since it was a gorgeous night. We had to wait about 5-10 min for a patio table, but no biggie. The service was great and our waiter was very attentive. And the food came out pretty fast as well. After ordering some wine we started with a cup of gazpacho. My husband really liked it, but i found it a little spicy. However, I really enjoyed the rest of our meal which was a meat and cheese app and pecan crusted trout. My husband and I split both and cleaned our plates. While dessert was tempting we had eaten a lot of candy on our drive to Asheville so decided to skip it. Overall, it was a nice first casual meal and we didn't even have to get dressed up which was nice after a long car ride. It looks like they have a great brunch too so we may be back this week to check it out!

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
