Happy we took a chance on Bru! My partner and I were in Asheville for the day, saw Bru featured on Yelp and thought we'd pop in for brunch. First impressions were that the interior was beautifully done- the lighting and mural gave the space a great vibe. We visited on a Monday morning, so I'm not sure if there's usually a wait, but we were seated upon arrival and the hostess/waitress who took care of us was very sweet. I ordered the shakshuka and my partner ordered the steak and eggs as well as a cappuccino. Our food was brought out by who we suspect was the chef himself, which felt so personal- that was a lovely touch. The presentation of both meals wad excellent! My shakshuka was very tasty, the salad that came with was dressed with the most amazing vinaigrette, and the bread was toasted to perfection. On to the steak and eggs- the steak was very well seasoned, the fries were fantastic, and the eggs were cooked just as they should be. The only negatives are that the steak came out a little cool and the cappuccino wasn't made properly- the drink was mainly warm milk and barely any foam. Regardless, we enjoyed our meals, loved the ambience, and thought the price was reasonable.

Went for breakfast and I have to say it was phenomenal. It's a very cool place and everybody there is very nice. I had an iced cold brew coffee and my husband had his favorite iced tea. I had avocado toast and gluten-free bread. And I have to say that gluten-free bread usually is subpar, but this one was the best I've had. My husband had a grilled cheese sandwich with blueberry compote and a cup of tomato soup. It was fabulous. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food out fairly quickly to our table.

Fantastic breakfast spot with great food and plenty of options with delicious coffee as well. We loved it! I had the cottage cheese eggs which was the perfect amount of food. Husband had the huevos rancheros which was good too!

I am obsessed with Bru! I travel to AVL fairly frequently and try to plan my mornings to make sure I have time to sit down and eat here. The staff is so friendly and it's a very chill environment. The food is incredible. The coffee is fabulous and the food is even better. I genuinely crave this place.

I came here with my husband a couple days ago when we were visiting Asheville. The service was great, our waitress was very helpful and attentive. And the food was also quite tasty, I ordered the baked cottage cheese eggs (10/10) and my husband got the huevos rancheros. We both really enjoyed our dishes. As for the drinks, I got the cookies & cream latte and it was very yummy. My husband just got an Americano (he's boring) but he liked it. The ambiance is comfortable and inviting, it's a cute little cafe. 10/10 would go again!

This locally owned and operated business just opened in Asheville. The name Brü refers to the fact they are both a coffee bar and a beer bar, also serving food. It's a small narrow place with bar stools for sitting at several long bars, including one with a roll-up window that faces onto Biltmore Ave, so you can sit and watch the world go by. Great when it is rolled up and you get the breeze. Like many places in Asheville these days, you order at the counter and they bring your order to you. The service was friendly and efficient. The taps were not operational yet when we went during their soft opening, so we had coffee instead of beer. The dark roast was very good and very reasonably priced. They had their draft beer list posted already and it looked like a great selection of beers, mostly local, but some out of the area -- but all interesting craft beers in any case. The menu includes breakfast and lunch items. The menu is fairly small, but very innovative and the food was very good. We were there at lunch time. We had to try the pastrami tacos. Where have you ever seen that on a menu? Thick tasty chunks of pastrami with tasty toppings in a taco shell. Our only suggestion would be to maybe add a small side of chips or greens. There were 2 good-sized tacos, but they'd be even better if there was some kind of side. We also had the salmon bowl, which was next level, like you'd get at a really good Japanese restaurant. The salmon serving itself wasn't huge, but tasted so good and was so well prepared that it was worth it. The skin was cooked to perfection, with the inside left a little fleshier, almost like you'd get typically with pan-seared tuna. We ordered it because it came with cucumbers, edamame, avocado and basil leaves, all served over white rice. That sounded kind of weird, so we wanted to see if it all worked together, and did it ever! Everything played well off each other and the meal was healthy, fresh and just filling enough. One suggestion might be to maybe serve it over a combination of rice (brown or white) and quinoa. The quinoa could give it just a little more crunchiness and character. But overall, everything was really good. A cute little place that's a great new addition to the Asheville food scene. We'll be back for beers, more food and the cool vibe.

I've been here several times now and it's my new favorite breakfast spot. My favorite drink is the Hazelnut Cortado and my favorite breakfast is the Baked Cottage Cheese Eggs. SO good!! They also serve lunch, dinner and beer and it's on my list to try. Great vibes and awesome staff as well!

This place is fantastic! The coffee was delicious and flavored with in-house syrups that weren't too sweet! The food (breakfast sandwich) was incredible - locally sourced beef and perfectly cooked egg were so good. I would be here every day if I lived in the area! Great service as well and everyone was very kind!

I stopped in here to study, and the open floor plan and huge open windows for fresh air made it the perfect spot! My favorite part: a gluten free and local smash burger. Like a REAL comfort food smash burger without the guilt. The man working the bar recommended it to me and it was amazing!! The fries were so fresh and super crispy. 10/10 recommend especially if you have dietary restrictions that make eating out hard!

Like many cafés in Asheville, it's a self-bussing establishment, so guests return their own dishes after eating. The cafe is charming, with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were warm, welcoming, and food was very good. We ordered drinks which was okay...next time I'll opt for water. Luckily, the Buddha Bowl and the breakfast sandwich served on a perfectly baked biscuit, and both were fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I figured I'd have to get there right when they opened to beat the crowd. Then I hit snooze about a thousand times and stumbled in a few hours later. Somehow there were only three people in line. While the cashier at the counter cut me off after I ordered two items, telling me I was "going too fast"... I thought she was about to ruin my morning. Turns out she was an angel, guiding me to the light. She recommended The Standard, which I assumed was just a basic-ass breakfast sandwich, then told me to get it on the biscuit instead of the bread/roll/bun/whatever. That flaky, buttery, soft biscuit made me feel like I was in heaven. And don't forget the herb mayo--the cherry on top of one of the best milkshakes... I mean sandwiches... I've ever had. The lavender, fairy-dust, moon-water, up-your-ass spritzer seasonal special or whatever the hell it was... also delicious. Such an amazing way to start my day that when I told my friends about it, they immediately wanted to go for lunch. I RARELY, IF EVER, EAT AT THE SAME RESTAURANT TWICE IN ONE DAY. By lunchtime I felt like I should've been getting employee discounts. Hell, it was so damn hot in Asheville I bought one of their tank tops after breakfast... then came back wearing it for lunch like I'd worked there for years. I'll spare you the details of everything we ordered, but let me tell you this: not a single complaint. And that's saying something with the group of professional complainers I seem to have surrounded myself with. If you're reading this, lady at the counter--you were right. I hope you're out there telling other lost souls they're going too fast... and to get the biscuit. Asheville might've gotten the Michelin recognition, but you deserve a star too. Verdict: I'd eat here twice in one day again

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Many falafel rolls come with add-ons that I don't like, but the pickled turnip offering here was both flavorful and colorful.
