What a great discovery in a small town. It is definitely worth the short drive off the freeway. Southern Porch was formerly the Imperial Hotel. I chose to eat in the bar. There are several unique indoor areas to dine as well as on the porch. The service was excellent. I tried the fried bread and butter pickles. I only planned to eat a few but they were exceptional and I consumed them all before my sliders and wood chips (homemade potato chips). The location and setting of the restaurant are very nice in downtown Canton. We had a group of five on a Tuesday night. We arrived around 7 and the wait was close to an hour. We tried a variety of dishes. The cornbread appetizer was fantastic. We also had the French dip, wings, burger, cheesesteak, bacon collard dip, and jalapeño poppers. Overall the food was just ok. The French dip was dry. The bacon collard dip was super greasy. For those hanging out in the bar they had a great time and seems like a nice place to just come get a drink. read more

My family and I ate out on the porch with our two dogs, they opened up the porch just for us, it was a warm day in February. We really appreciated it! We were passing through canton on our way back from the smokies and wanted a good bite to eat on a beautiful Sunday. It said the southern porch was closed on yelp but we walked by and saw people eating inside. Boy am I glad we walked by, they were having a brunch menu offering. My started off with an app of fried green tomatoes, they were paired with a really tasty ramp and bacon jam. Very satisfying. My wife got the chicken biscuit sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. It came with pimento cheese, bacon, and honey. My meal was the biscuit with chicken and eggs, kind of like a Benedict but with fried egg instead of poached, biscuit instead of English muffin, and sausage gravy instead of hollandaise. The restaurant is in an old house and has really cool flooring and other things like the wood burning stove. The outside patio looks like it'd be really nice to sit on while enjoying dinner. The worst meal we've had in a long time. The chicken wings tasted like they were cooked the day before and just refried -- old, dry, and unpleasant. The salad was no better; it seemed like it had been made the night before and left in the refrigerator. The tomatoes were mushy, and the cucumbers were soggy. Ordered steak and baked potato. They were out of bakers. Then tried prime rib and sweet potato. They were out of both. Gave up and ordered bar bites. The fries were "bottom of the barrel"; soggy, mealy inside. I have been here many times over the years when we come back to visit family. My husband loves the shrimp and grits and I love the fried green tomatoes. The blue cheese dressing is often watered down. The food seems to be "hit or miss". This makes me sad because our memories of going there are much tastier. May need to rebook at tracking quality control and ordering of supplies (or suppliers). read more

This is truly a hidden gem. The food is very good and the service is pleasant. Our server was careful to get our order correct and to check on us frequently. Any of our requests were promptly addressed. The portions are more than enough and the prices are most reasonable. There is a full bar and the bartender is very capable of making excellent drinks. The restaurant is located on the first floor of a historic building. Seating is available on the inside in either the dining room or bar are. Plus, there is seating on the front porch. These features make the location inviting and interesting. There is a free public parking lot directly across the street. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Horrible! The service was very good but the food was absolutely awful. I'm not even sure how they can justify serving the food they did. We got the pimento cheese dip and hush puppies as an app. The hush puppy sauce was so over salted it and the hush puppies were over cooked. The pimento cheese was mediocre but at least eatable - the only item that ended up being eaten at all. For entrees we got the black bean patty with fries and pot roast with a side of cabbage-one bite of each and neither of us could stomach to eat anymore. Everything tastes like it was frozen and reheated. There is clearly no pride or passion in the kitchen. I'm a vegetarian and would rather have eaten a McDonald's meat burger than eat the food we were served. I'm actually in shock at how bad this food was and don't understand how anyone could say otherwise. What a waste and a shame. read more

Claire had steak tips with mashed potatoes and large homemade onion rings. I tried one they were great. She really liked the tips. I had pot roast and braised Collard Greens. The pot roast was very good a very tender. The greens were good. Just a little under for me. No bread served with dinner and I couldn't get pepper vinegar. They have a super bar. She had a lot of tables but made us feel special even with the multitasking. Now for the food. It was wing Mondays so they're a buck a pop. I ordered 6 just to have a taste. Then I also ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese. That was damn good. The wings hit as well. The ranch and blue cheese also delicious. My boyfriend ordered the meatloaf. It was so good. Southern Porch has a great location, and is a nice looking restaurant. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The place is clean, and there were plenty of people working to tend to the diners. We had lunch on a Tuesday. We ordered the special for the day which was buffalo chicken tacos. We also ordered the Low Bird chicken sandwich. Our sides were grits and onion rings. We also order jalapeño poppers as an appetizer. All the food was good. The poppers were awesome though. There was nothing wrong with the tacos or the sandwich. However, we would have liked a bit more flavor. It was a "good" meal, and we will eat at Southern Porch again. The service was very friendly and quick. Canton does have quite a few very good restaurants. Although there are better restaurants to dine at in Canton, Southern Porch has terrific ambiance with good food. I've had terrible experiences here with management. There was one occasion where the staff took our order.. and we were fine waiting 40+ minutes for the to go order only to find out they never cooked one of our orders. The manager refused to rectify this in any way. Insisted that not only we pay additional money for an order we placed at this point almost an hour prior but also then expected us to sit and wait like nothing had ever happened. This was some years ago but when we tried again recently another part of the meal was forgotten. My family will never be coming back. Food is wonderful, but it's clear that management is not customer focused. read more
