This was a great diner style restaurant that's been around a long time in Waynesville. All the food is really good, and the vegetables are plenty for. The cobbler that I had was absolutely astounding! The portions are really big. We both took home enough for dinner as well. The salads are monsters and full of fresh ingredients. Honestly, everything is good here and it's a restaurant you need to go to to hang out with the locals. I have a service dog and he's only 4.5 lbs. They made me put him on the floor and refused to give me a bowl so he could have water. The other restaurants are gracious and even bring him a small bowl full of water. The food was ok, but not anything to rave about. The way they treated my SERVICE DOG was so disrespectful. The mushroom gravy on the beef tips tasted like package gravy with canned mushrooms, beets and onions had no onions and tasted exactly like the ones in a jar that I buy in a grocery store. My beef tips, I asked for RARE and they were medium. The best thing I had was the baked potato. It was perfect! I will not be back here. The server was ok but with the way my service dog was treated, I can't give her but a 1 star as well. read more

Food is what you'd expect from a diner. Nothing terrible, just not great either. Basically just kinda "is." Price is very affordable, so big plus there. Ambiance is, again, typical for a diner. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Service wasn't bad, but wasn't exceptionally great either. Again, standard fare. Everyone was raving about the fried chicken here so I went with it. I didn't think it was so great. I found it dry and tasteless. They did serve me quite a lot which I was never able to finish. This is THE diner to eat at in Maggie Valley. The place was hopping (and that's an understatement) but still had seating. Everyone knew each other and the waitress was the nicest person that side of the Mississippi. The food came out faster than people flocked the tables and was grandma approved. If you have room, definitely get the seasonal cobbler (it wasn't even strawberry season but it tasted AMAZING). The gravy wasn't the best ever, so maybe don't get something with a ton of it and if you're used to jiffy cornbread, theirs is a little different. Excellent. My husband ordered the same. The daily specials are 11.99 which include an entree, 3 sides and rolls for 11.99. We were at a booth by the door which was very cold and people were waiting around us. Decor is nothing special and it was pretty busy and crowded on a Saturday at 430 pm. If you're looking for a simple place to get southern food and southern hospitality; look no further. Clyde's in Waynesville if perfect for the family or a small gathering. From burgers and chicken to fish and shrimp, you'll sure to find something that for the picky eater in the group. Unfortunately, since 2021, they have stopped their breakfast which was the best for breakfast in town. Clyde's offerings are second to none. However, their quality of the food has slipped since COVID. Although the amount of food that is given is enough to give them leniency. Unlike others that is overpriced, little food but does have some flavor; Clyde's slides in for the win. Service: Clyde's offers fast and friendly service. Don't get me wrong; you won't get your food within 5 minutes; given the crowd they draw, they will be busy, but you will find you food being delivered within 10-15 minutes. Atmosphere: This restaurant ahas a diner feel in front and a southern diner feel on the sides. It's usually pretty cool inside which is perfect for hot days. If you get cold easy, a jacket might be needed. Otherwise, it provides a comfortable feel. Overall food: It's alright. Does need some improvement, but it is worth the money. It was about $12-13 per person with water. Dish 1: Chicken tenders with fries, mac n' cheese and classic honey mustard. Their chicken tenders are okay, but didn't have much flavor and seemed overcooked. Though crispy, and little tender, it's not much to brag about. Their crinkle fries what a little crisp. It seemed like frozen and not hand cut (which most majority crinkle cut fries are). Mac n' cheese seemed thick, almost as if they used some kind of cream instead of regular milk but had enough flavor to satisfy the right person. Fish 2: Fish (fried flounder), with fires, coleslaw, hushpuppies and tartar sauce. The fish didn't have much meat on it, so it was hard to tell texture. The batter seemed like it was cornmeal but did have a non-fishy flavor. Dish 3: Fried Chicken with fried squash, potato salad and spiced apples. The chicken was much like the tenders, not much meat but did come with 3 pieces. Squash was particularly good, crisp on the edges. It was thin cut which is how I prefer fried squash. The potato salad was not the best on the market as it did seem a little gritty. The apples were a most favorite off of this dish. Drinks: We all ordered water. Not much to review here. read more

One star is for the service and the other for the quick turnaround of the food. If the nature of the food is what you're used to (mostly fried , very little seasoning used than maybe a little salt , dry as opposed to "cakey" cornbread , pot pie that's made with bisquiclk t/o as opposed to in a pie crust or with big egg noodles..) , then maybe this it's your bag , but not mine. Blueberry cobbler was missing the cobbler ... more bisquick and mostly sugary pie glaze .... Hard to find the blueberries . Oh/ I am so disappointed. I was lured in by a highway billboard with an old school font. Very disappointed. The place was packed at noon on a Sunday and the crowd was building as I left. There appeared to be a very robust takeaway service and most of the tables were filled. I was so excited about an authentic meat and three. I ordered roast beef as rare as they would serve it. I was served an nearly inedible piece of grey/brown dried slab that had been reheated on a flat top. The Mac and cheese was a commercial preparation of blah; the mashed potatoes were too thin to be from potatoes; and the broccoli casserole was a disaster of frozen over blended pieces of the vegetable that would have gotten the average person kicked out of a potluck. And what happened to serving real butter with a roll? I had a dreamy idea of nostalgia on a plate and what I got was an over processed stretch from homemade. read more

we went there a year ago, in 2024. they overhauled their menu and i decided to try an asian dish--BIG MISTAKE! not only were they slow, they harvested maggots for my rice from a customer in the restaurant, who was eating there. the meat was ok... well, i found out later, it was roadkill and the rice wasnt rice at all--it was maggots. alive and crawling on my plate. they refused to take it back and made up some lame excuse about it and charged my family twice the price... I've been wanting to try this place for a while but usually found myself over that way on the days they are closed. Pulled into the parking lot 5 minutes before they opened and there were 5-6 cars with people in them waiting for it to open. That was the first sign that it was popular. Waitress was very good.
