Were out of the pulled pork, so chose others. 2 of the 3 were cold, maybe that's how they serve them. Got two chip dishes both not enough chips to finish the dips. Other than the beer being decent after adding up the alacarts I may as well go to a Mexican restaurant and get better quality and more to eat. The appetizer, Parmesan fries, came out hot and delicious. That lemon aioli is scrumptious! Our entrees- Shrimp and Gouda Grits and the braised short ribs were both solid choices. Both tasty. Great Taco's! Went up for a middle of the week R&R and it was Taco Tuesday all the ones available were great tasty and worth the $.

Our first impression is that the service isn't going to be great/slow. The staff seem a little on the slow moving side perhaps due to being busy? Our waitress who was the bartender is tending to the whole bar (about 6 people), a group of 6 (us) and a family of 10. They have two separate menus with different offerings for lunch & dinner. I have attached photos of the dinner menu. The food came out quickly and our Waitress, Heather took good care of us and ensured we had everything. Went to dinner with family and had another wonderful meal at this restaurant. Although owned by Boojum brewery they also have a full bar. We had the fried pickles and calamari to start both were very tasty. One niece had the waffle which was huge but she ate the entire thing. Several of us had wings which were also cooked great. Crispy. One had chicken fried steak and one had fish and chips. Wa have been several times and they are very consistent Our server was so cheerful, funny and helpful. We had lunch today at Red Fox. We had the Maple Chicken and Waffle sandwich and the BBQ Cowboy Tacos. The chicken sandwich was nice and spicy (as advertised). The waffles were outstanding. Really flavorful! As for the tacos, they were tasty as well. We all had fries as our side dish, and they were crispy, fresh, and well seasoned. Although this restaurant is owned by the same people that own Boojum Brewing Company on Main Street, the menus are definitely different (so it's not like just eating at Boojum in a different location. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and well arranged regarding seating (booths, tables, and bar). It's nice that they have a full bar with a nice selection (for those that want a drink). There were plenty of people working, so the service was fast and friendly. Despite the current construction on Russ avenue, the Red Fox is easy to get in and out of. This restaurant is a nice addition to the already wonderful assortment of great restaurants in Waynesville. read more

The Red Fox is new in town but my B&B said it was getting good reviews having just opened. I went twice during my visit to Waynesville. For the first visit I got the Country Fried Steak. The steak tasked like they hand pounded it on the spot and breaded and cooked it and was clearly not a precooked reheat from a supplier. The mashed potatoes were hand mashed and had some chunky texture and tasted great. Oh the Broccolini...i think it qualifies as an addictive drug. It is coated in a perfectly salt/olive oil/butter mixture and cooked al dente. I'm not one to like broccoli stalk but with that coating i had to and wanted to just suck it off of it. A fantastic meal for sure. I tried the peach cobbler and the topping tastes more like a cake topping that a granola. It is small so if someone in your party says I'll just try a bite slap that spoon out of their hand and tell them to get their own so not shareable in my opinion but maybe i have an issue!! For my second visit i tried the Trout and Grits. the trout was lightly breaded and fried. the cheese grits were really good and the sauce was just fantastic that tied it all together. another must try. i tried the panacotta for dessert and it had some crispy topping to go with the fresh strawberries. it was a solid panacotta and would say it is a best option so far. also small so not sharable. the staff on the two visit were friendly and helpful and attentive. First I want to say I understand it was New Year's Eve so most businesses were closed which is why we saw this as a place to feed my family. We looked at the menu and felt that it looked like we would definitely enjoy the food. On arrival we went into the lobby and could see a couple of people waiting to be sat. We then stood there for about 12 minutes before we were even acknowledged and when we were we were told it would be about 15 minutes for a table. Seeing that they were moderately busy we had no issue with that. When we sat down my kids typically request a kids meal because they don't like to eat a full meal. They were told that because they were over 12 they were unable to get a kid's meal. Not quite sure why businesses make such a big deal of it because if you don't have anything that you provide prior to the meal (like Mexican restaurants or other chain restaurants) then I tend to wonder how is the business losing money by feeding my kids the kids meals. It doesn't make sense to me but hey they just shared a regular meal which was less than two kids meals. As you can see I got the taco Tuesday deal which was very good and I definitely would recommend getting them when you go. The service was pretty decent because he did keep our drinks full. I would visit this location again but the lack of allowing my kids to get what they want versus being told they're not allowed to have it for whatever reason definitely won't make it my first choice in the future. read more

We have eaten there several times and for the most part find the food very mediocre. The only dish that I personally find good is the gouda shrimp and grits which is only available for dinner. Even though this is owned by the same people that own Boojum's I feel that the two are not comparable as Boojum's food is much better. When we entered, a friendly hostess greeted us and seated us in the bar area, right next to a very lively group of eight. We mentioned we were meeting two more people, and she casually suggested we just pull up another table. The noise was intense, so I went over to the front of the bar to ask the waitstaff if we could change tables. They said, "Sure." We found an empty booth by the window and settled in, only to have the hostess tell us we couldn't sit there. She moved us back to the middle section, then promptly seated a different couple at the booth we'd left. We were not thrilled. Then are friends arrived. Once seated, the waitress took our drink order, and we browsed the menu. I asked about the chicken-fried steak, wondering if it was freshly prepared or just frozen and fried. She confirmed it was the latter, which wasn't encouraging. Even though we weren't blown away, we gave The Red Fox another try two months later. I asked the waitress if the chicken-fried steak was fresh or did they just drop it into the deep fryer. She replied it's taken out and dropped in the deep fryer. It was the same frozen, deep-fried version I was told about on our first visit. I ordered something else. The noise level was high, making conversation tough. At one point, my wife joked she couldn't hear me. I laughed and replied, "Of course, you can't, we're in the BEST bar in Waynesville!" My husband was in the hospital and was finally allowed (Drs orders) to have solid food. I ordered a smash burger to go. The food was 5 stars worthy. I'm giving 4 stars only because the take out experience was horrific. 45 minutes I waited after I called in the order approx 20 mins prior. To their credit the restaurant was busy, but servers are responsible for take out orders. I had to wait in the waiting line for a table before anyone would help me then my order was wrong and had to wait for them to make a side of veggies. Not sure why the bartender or host couldn't handle the take out order? Maybe they are short staffed like the rest of the area? Anyway, even after all that the food was excellent. This was our first time eating here and we loved it. The atmosphere is great, very clean and open, kinda loud but not bad at all like some open space restaurants are where you can't hear yourself think. The service was excellent, both the hostess and our server. Very friendly and helpful. I also saw the other servers on top of taking care of their tables. The food was very reasonably priced compared to similar style restaurants and good portions. My wife and I both said we'd give it a 4.8 out of 5. What would make it a perfect 5? A few nitpicky things: 1. Wife said the ratio of "cowboy caviar" to bbq chicken was off. Less chicken and a lot more cowboy caviar would have been better. 2. Her Gouda grits were great but just a little less Gouda would have been even better. 3. We both thought the seasoned fries could have used about half the amount of seasoning. Tasted great but some bites were just too overwhelming. All of these are personal preference, so I wouldn't put too much weight on those things. We decided to try The Red Fox for an early Father's Day dinner. We were greeted by a very sweet hostess and seated very quickly. I hadn't been in the building since it was a seafood restaurant and was amazed at the transformation. It is stunning inside! I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted, as I wanted to try several things. We ordered the smoked trout dip. I'm not a huge trout fan, but this is DEEEEEELICIOUS. The crackers are divine.
