    Cuban Sandwich
    Meagan H.

I am glad we found this place! We are always looking for a new place to try, especially if it has outdoor seating. We ordered the Cuban, the Midnight and a sampler platter. The sandwiches were great, exactly as expected. They weren't lacking anything. The sampler was the Ace. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing these items and saved the second part of our sandwiches for later. The beef empanada was my favorite. Soooo much flavor and flaky pastry! The ham croquettes were awesome, I did not expect to enjoy them so much. I also liked the chicken empanada, tostones and sweet plantains. We washed it down with an iron beer! 10/10 will return.

Ordered a cafe con leche, beef empanada and a pork tamale. Phenomenal!!! It's a little toasty inside, but it's a cute little place with delicious food!!

Without a doubt, I have to say this reminds me back in Florida, reminds me of any spot that I go to, but some spots in Florida are not as good, but this spot here in Waynesville is banging good, I have to say the service is wonderful. The food is outstanding. The ambient is completely wonderful because it reminds me of a Cuban sandwich shop, I have to say drinking my Culotta was on spot that the fact they didn't put sugar in the coffee that doesn't make it truly authentic Cuban coffee, but you put it as you want to, but I say it has to be the sugar in the espresso that makes Cuban coffee. I like the ambience, it reminds me of when I was in Florida, like a traditional premium place. I learned that there's a second location in Tampa Florida, which is pretty cool. So there's a family a Puerto Rican that own the Cuban guys, but they have everything to the original. I recommend anybody he's looking for a quick place to get food or you know a good taste of difference in their palette, I would come here.

Truly the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. I've never had a Cuban sandwich before and this was the best first!!! The staff is amazing and sweet, PORTIONS ARE BIG and delicious. Thank you!!!

Why would you go to Hemingways when this is an option? And yes, I am saying travel the 45 min from AVL to this amazing spot. Walk the Main Street and have some cuban food that is on par with Miami- esp since the original owner, Angel, is from Miami. He has retired recently due to health concerns so a lovely Puerto Rican/Southern couple has taken over. What I appreciate is not paying $10 for 2 small empanadas, unlike another location. Now to take my friends who have never had good Cuban food. Great spot for an introduction.

An unexpected find in western NC. Kind people, quick service, good food and outdoor seating. Split a Cuban sandwich given how large they are. Perfection.

Mojo Pork, rice with vegetables, and the Cuban Sandwich

We visited The Cuban Guy restaurant for the first time today for lunch. Our friends love it, and after today, I see why they recommended it. My wife had the Cuban Sandwich and I had the Mojo Pork with vegetables and rice. Absolutely delicious!!! The sandwich was a fusion of flavors - ham, cheese, pork, and mustard - and was perfectly balanced on the crispy roll. The Mojo Pork was tender and seasoned just right. The Cuban Guy is a perfect alternative to the standard burger and fries lunch and is very reasonably priced. We will certainly be back!

The one who suggested this restaurant told the other right upfront that it's the best for this area of North Carolina and it is not Cuban food of Miami. My Cuban sandwich was just fine and tasted just like the one I had in Miami in my opinion as a gringo and everyone finished their meal without sending anything back so I would say the food was pretty good The restaurant is a order at the counter and staff will deliver it to your table. There is one unisex bathroom for All and I'm not sure about everyone else but of course our service dog was allowed. I did see two other dogs so I can only assume that pets are allowed as those two were not marked as service animals at all. The cafe is inviting although sparse. Chicky bowl had good flavor and the yellow rice really set off the flavor of the chicken. My lunch mate said it reminded her of a chicken cacciatore dish. Piggy bowl was really delicious with two different kinds of beans. The shredded pork was a nice blend of tart and crispy. Unfortunately the Cuban sammy left a lot to be desired. The bread was dry and hard, without any flavor. Yes it was "pressed " but we expected a sandwich with plenty of juicy meat and cheese hanging over the sides! Not so. Very little mayo or mustard to cut the dry bread, one pickle, and very little meat. (See photo) Three of us had the Cuban. All 3 of us agreed that this would not be something to recommend. One of my lunch mates had the schnitzel sandwich. The pork loin was breaded, dry and had no flavor. He also said he would not recommend this sammy. Overall, this would be a one and done for all of us. We are from Orlando and have some spectacular Cuban sandwich restaurants here. Lots of locals with great Cuban roots.

I very much love the filling on the inside which was a chocolate frosting and loved the chocolate layer on the outside of the cake. The cake part itself was definitely a bit dry. It was flakey when I put my spoon into it. Still good but the filling helped a lot. It did come with some kind of fruit sauce on the side (maybe strawberry?) but I didn't wanna make it a fruity chocolate cake so I dipped a few bites. I also saw they had Bavarian cream churros and since I've never had churros before, I wanted to try those as well. I'm not sure how churros are supposed to be but I was thinking they would be a little soft since they had filling but they weren't. They were on the crunchy side and I that kinda made it hard to taste the cream in the middle. They were good but like I said, not sure if that's how they're supposed to be. They came with a chocolate sauce and it was delicious but that definitely masked the flavor of the churro. Both were $7 each so not too bad. I think I'd get both again if I'm here in the future. Side note, no, I don't finish either dessert. I took them home. Lmao!

The hostess found our reservation right away and seated us inside--originally I asked for patio seating, but Mother Nature said "absolutely not," so indoors it was. Our waitress was fantastic. I'm about 87% sure her name was Sylvia (according to my girlfriend), but what I do know is that she was a fun, blondish woman from New Orleans with a personality that made the experience even better. We kept it light--just drinks and appetizers to share. I ordered a Coquito, my girlfriend ordered something sweet (the name escapes me, but the smile didn't). Food-wise, we shared the chicken empanadas, yuca fritas, and crispy Caribbean wings. Every bite was a win. We had to make a dramatic exit because we were heading to a walking ghost tour (priorities), so we grabbed dessert to go: pastelitos de guayaba. Even eaten on the move, they were absolutely delicious. Great food, great service, great vibes--10/10 would celebrate another month-versary here.
