Filet and good amount of asparagus

At long last, Longhorn may have surpassed the mighty Outback in the casual steak chain arena. As Americans, we've just sort of lost our infatuation with the land down under. I'm not sure if we'll ever be able to recapture the magic of peak Aussie-MANIA in the 80s. Since then, it's slowly gone downhill, from Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin to the Hemsworth brothers. If they want to breathe new life into the franchise, it should try to be truly authentic with walls adorned with box jellyfish, Eastern brown snakes, funnel-web spiders, and leaves of the suicide plant, known colloquially as "gympie-gympie." Speaking of ambiance, I think that's where LongHorn has really pulled through. Holy cow, I just realized the "H" is capitalized in LongHorn. I have been typing this wrong for years. But yes, once inside it really feels like a spacious, romantic cabin. Everything is dark amber woodgrain. Black metal chandeliers with those lights made to look like candlesticks hang high above. Great, moody lighting. Some real elaborate paintings as well - giant, like those old creepy 20-foot tall Beauty and the Beast-era portraits. It really gives it all such a whimsical sense of grandeur. As for the food, it's good ol' homestyle frontier cookin'. You ever eat on the frontier? Re-enact your favorite scene from Westworld? They had grilled shrimp skewers in the wild west, right? Surely old prospectors sat by the fire under the stars chowing down on their loaded baked potatoes. I swear LongHorn used to be more rootin' and tootin', more rodeo clown and denim cowboy. Back in those days, they used that super light colored wood from floor to ceiling, and if I'm not mistaken, the servers dressed up in cowboy shirts and hats. Now you might almost say it's classy. It's no longer where the wild things are. Frontier life has been brought to the modern era, and it sure is tasty.

This was the worst experience. Was told 20 min wait, because we called ahead, waited a hour. Finally sat the floor under the table had large pieces of food and the floor in general had food and trash. I understand they were busy but I worked in restaurants for 20 years clean table means cleaning seats and floor around it sever was holding plates of food up against his body and bread was all but in the plates My food came out looking like it sat in the heat window forever steak was dry but plate was filled with grease Just disappointed completely

    The Longhorn Steak. Yes sir.

The shrimp appetizer is worth the trip alone. Not my favorite steak but definitely still great food.

They lit the fire and turned on the music for us, which was a nice touch. Overall the ambience was very nice and they took care of us. It's rare I order seafood from a landlocked state but the menu was small enough that you either could get steak, seafood, or a wrap. I went with the special of the day which was a flounder with rice pilaf. The flounder was good but the salmon was much better, would only recommend the salmon. The rice pilaf was good as well as the broccolini. The mashed potatoes were fantastic and the roasted vegetables were what you'd expect. Also had the ice cream cheesecake which was odd and wouldn't get again. Bill came out to about 120 for 2 glasses of wine, 2 seafood entrees, and a dessert. Overall, had a great dinner.

After the show went back in hoping they'd have late night food...nope one drink, turned on the lights at 11 and pretty much told us we had to go.

My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place!

I got the mini bandeja paisa, my wife got some chicken cutlet with plantains and my baby girl got the cheeseburger with fries. They had 2 different sauces; one's some mayo type sauce and the other, their home made jalapeno sauce. That jalapeno sauce was some of the best sauces, period, that I've ever had - it had a nice kick, but not too spicy, a hint of sweetness, but more tangy and flavorful... So good that we bought their big bottle ($15). 2 days later and we are halfway done. :( My baby girl was making a huge mess with her PEZ candy and they were dropping all over, but the lady who took care of us, was extremely patient and understood our frustration. She was graceful towards us! Everywhere I look, and I don't mean to offend anyone but, too many "American" restaurants that serve the same or very similar dishes and there isn't much around that offers distinctive cuisine, but this place is different and I was glad that we ended going there, especially after going to a very disappointing restaurant the night before. Been coming here for many years since it opened, never had any issues. But unfortunately this visit wasn't too good. Ordered drinks , looked over the menu and chose some appetizers - tater skins and some fried pickles since we haven't had those in a while, decided to try something else other then the usual rattlesnake bits which are also a favorite. I ordered the 16oz sirloin with fries and applesauce, my wife went with the country fried chicken with salad and loaded sweet potato. Drinks came out , few minutes later the salad arrived. My wife finished the salad and we were waiting on our appetizers to arrive. 10-15 minutes went by still no appetizers. Waitress never checked on us to see if we needed anything , she mainly wandered around the bar area , didn't look like she had any other tables since it wasn't busy. Maybe another 10 or so minutes passed and out come our entrees. They were delivered to us by a completely different waiter. I told him about the situation that the appetizers were never delivered. The waiter went and quickly found the manager and sent him to find our waitress. He did apologize for the issue and offered us a $10 free entree on our next visit. He then asked if we needed anything , so my wife asked for another drink. $10 is enough to cover just an appetizer , but the tip for the waitress went out the window on that visit. The appetizers were taken off the bill. Not sure if our waitress was "new" but I was surprised that we had this issue when she wrote our order down. Better luck next time.
