My husband and I stopped in last Saturday night for dinner. I ordered shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. I'm not even sure you can call what they served me shrimp even. They are certainly not the type or size any other restaurant would use to stuff with anything. The shrimp alone were poorly cooked and gummy. The crab stuffing was watery and had minimal amounts of crab or binder. No flavor in the shrimp or crabmeat stuffing. My husband ordered the ribs. His comment to me was they were the worst ribs he has ever, had hands down. No flavor at all. The ribs had been overcooked to the point the flavor had been cooked out of them. There was no color in the meat except for a strange grey color. They didn't seem to be "fresh" ribs and possibly had been cooked several times over and over again. This could possibly explain the grey color, of the meat. The decor of the restaurant was nice old but nice it could be it could use a cleaning up. I would never recommend this place or return. read more

When checking the reviews , saw they were very mixed. We decided to try anyway. Ordered the crab bisque which was amazing. The steak and lobster also wonderful. Martini was fabulous. The decor may be out dated but who cares we don't. The service and food was wonderful we will definitely be back. Also no smell of smoke like seen in other reviews. I haven't been here to eat in 20 years and I will never return. The interior is extremely dated including carpet that was also there the last time I ate there. I would let this slide if the food was delicious, but unfortunately it was not. It wasn't even good, it was bland, lukewarm, and I'm not even sure if my chicken was fully cooked. I took a few bites of my chicken Oscar dish and returned it back to the kitchen. The waitress seemed as if this was a regular occurrence and completely understood. The cloth napkins smelled like they've been stored in my grandmother's attic for a solid amount of time. I had to request paper napkins because the stale smell of the cloth ones were nauseating. The only positive part of our dining experience was that the waitress was nice and accommodating. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few time each year over the past 10 years. I have never had an issue with any of the dinners I have ordered. The decor is a little dated. I always hope that things get better for this restaurant. Maybe a facelift for the restaurant and better advertising will help this place gain more customers. read more

Pleasantly surprised by how good our meals were. This place has been around for awhile and started out as a nightclub. Now it's a restaurant/bar. We had a party of 8 and everyone loved their meals. My husband got the 16 oz. lobster tail paired with the 10 oz. fillet. It's not on the menu, but they said they can pair any steak with any size lobster, etc. Both were cooked to perfection. I was there with my mother the day before Mother's Day 2023... The service was good, the food was tasty but for what you get, too pricy. Let me explain... The Cajun shrimp app, that came with a very small serving of their rice, was amazing, but that's where the amazing ended. I paid 29.99 for a 12oz choice ribeye steak, and I'm lucky if I got 8oz... Don't get me wrong, the steak was tasty, but the portion was nowhere near 12oz. The side was their carrots and fries, also good but very small portions!! Mom got the steak tips, again good, but very small portions for the price. Will I go there again? Sorry, but that's a no!! Unless, they start serving what they advertise. We had an enjoyable time here at Stoppers. Sat at the bar on a Sunday at 4pm having a few drinks and grabbing a bite to eat. Sat at the bar for almost 4 hours relaxing. The restaurant is decorated in a really warm and welcoming way with something interesting to look at almost everywhere you lay your eyes. The bar was mostly empty which was good, we had the whole plamostly to ourselves. The guy behind the bar was extremely friendly and polite which was a pleasure to be around. The food was most delicious too! We ordered wings, 2 orders of stuffed mushrooms, a cheeseburger and a crab cake sandwich (See my pictures). The food was great. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was that the delicious crab cake was a lil smaller than normal and my awesome cheeseburger should have been on a brioche bun and not a reg .99 cent bun. With that being said, at that point eating I really didn't even care about it because I had really enjoyed my stay there. read more

This is one of the worst places I've ever eaten in my entire life. Our waitress was texting half the time she was serving us, and didn't even refill our water until we were about to leave. Also, the food we ordered was clearly microwaved. My partner ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi. The pasta tasted like oil, the scallops were mushy, and the shrimp was severely over cooked. The entire dish was flaming hot from being microwaved. I ordered the prime rib and although good, it was severely over seasoned on edges so much that I gagged from salt and pepper overload. It also was lukewarm at best when I received it and completely cold by the time I was halfway done eating it. We will not be returning. I feel robbed of $52. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

Family dinner for our 1st visit. The interior is clean with nice wood finish throughout. Staff is super friendly and knows the menu well. A full bar, including an extensive variety of martinis rounds out the evening nicely. The food is served in a reasonable amount of time and the price is well worth the portions you get. Our table of 3 had the prime rib, the filet mignot and the stuffed shrimp... all cooked to perfection. We'll be eating here again when in the area. read more

Oh my. Such a cute place with great location but terrible menu. Not a single vegetarian option. Made a platter from their sides and those were terribly bland. Another guest, also vegetarian, ordered a salad without chicken - it came with chicken on it anyway and no price reduction for the item deduction. My wife and I recently went here for our anniversary dinner. We have passed this place several times and were curious to try it. From the outside, it looks somewhat like a roadside dive. (I saw some good reviews online which prompted me to think otherwise) As other reviewers have noted, there is an odd odor upon entering the bar, but I didn't notice it in the adjoining dining area. We arrived on the early part of Saturday evening dinner to avoid any potential crowds. Our server was fairly attentive and efficient, although we had to get her attention later for water refills. My wife ordered the seafood platter: crab cake, snow crab legs, and jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat. I had the steak tips. We both enjoyed our dinners. The reason for only 4 stars: we received a nut cracker for the crab legs, making it challenging to break them open; the bathroom was very cozy with no trash receptacle for paper towels. (I looked everywhere for one and finally left it on our table); dessert options were very limited, so we skipped it. Despite the little glitches that night, we had a good time and enjoyed our dinner. But heck, I went ahead and gave them five because for what they do, they do it better than anyone else in the area. My husband and I dine at Stopper's regularly, and the quality of the food ranges from good to great. We are seafood lovers who have enjoyed fresh seafood in such places as northern Maine, the Western Isles of Scotland, the Adriatic coast of Italy, and...Berks County?! Yup, thanks to Stopper's, you won't need to drive to the Jersey Shore for fresh seafood. And best of all, you won't pay an arm and a leg for it. An expertly prepared, delicately seasoned, buttery piece of broiled haddock cost me all of $11.95 the other night. At that price I was able to add on five giant, crispy, sweet coconut shrimp for only $4.95. (And whatever they put in that dipping sauce, it is addictive!) Also terrific are the scallops, the blackened salmon, and the crab stuffed flounder. You simply won't find better seafood in Berks. Stopper's has a decidedly casual decor with dark real wood paneling, green leather banquettes with Tiffany lamps suspended over the tables, a motley mix of collectibles decorating the walls, and 1970s rock ballads playing softly on the radio. This all adds up to a slightly kitschy, but definitely cozy atmosphere. I love stopping in here on a rainy night (or any night, really). Also, the service is impressive...always cheerful, attentive, and competent (that last quality is not to be underrated). It appears that the management actually takes the time to properly train their waitstaff. Each time we visit Stopper's, we have an all around good experience. read more

I went into Stoppers last weekend with my family and i've never been to such a terrible restaurant before. My family and I asked for ketchup multiple times from different people. The staff was a mess and the girls serving my drinks were obviously not 18. Our waitress was in the back texting and every time she walked over all I smelled was cigarette smoke. Consistently good food, a local spot that I always seem to order the sane thing--steak, baked potato and a salad. Great martini list and a big, old, stone fireplace that's always going in the cold of winter. Ask for a spot by it and you'll be warmed by its romantic glow. Please beware! My husband and I went to dinner here tonight and they added an up charge for my order twice and added it also on my Husbands order! If I did get the menu and check they would have charged us twice for my upgrade! I had added bacon to my burger and it was burnt so i asked the waitress for another more bacon! She did bring me more but it was shady how they added it ! It was supposed be $1 which is fine but they charged me $2 and my hubby $1 ! He didnt order any bacon!! Very disappointed. Chicken strips and fries.... 1 tiny strip and 1 flattened out piece of chicken. Shoestring fries were so thin you couldn't even get them on the fork. Crab imperial was a crab cake. And when we brought this to the attention of our server, she shrugged it off and said "it's crab imperial" but it wasn't it was a crab cake. Crabby shrimp Alfredo.... where was the crab and shrimp? While house sitting in Reading, I met family here for dinner. When I entered the bar area I said hi to one of the staff, who completely ignored me. The server for our table was great, though.
