Cocktails are amazing- the Inside Job is a perfect take on an old fashioned. We snacked on apps and they were really good- cheese board, deviled eggs, pretzel bites and coconut shrimp. We really wanted to like this place--the food was solid once it finally arrived--but the service was unbelievably slow. We came in at 6:20pm with a baby and a 4-year-old, ordered our appetizers right away, and didn't get served until 8pm. My kids, who are usually very well-behaved in restaurants, were understandably losing it after waiting that long. I assumed they'd acknowledge the delay and comp something, but when the bill came, everything was still on it. I had to bring it up myself, and only then did they remove the appetizers. It was disappointing to have to advocate for that after such a long, stressful wait. I wouldn't recommend this spot if you're dining with kids. It's just not set up for families--no matter how well your kids handle restaurants. This place has some seriously good food, a great selection of beer for any enthusiast, and wonderful specialty cocktails. The staff is professional and knowledgeable, and the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality that is delivered. If you order something like the burger, you're going to get a lot of food with the fries and all, so be hungry. If you order one of the more upscale entrees, like the teres major or braised short ribs, order an appetizer if you're hungry, BUT let me tell you, the flavors that will come from that entree...yeah, you won't want to eat anything else. It's that good. The menu changes, and I love that too. I always have something new to try. The staff is friendly and the service is wonderful. Oh, and this place is clean. I always try to stop here when in town. The menu changes and the food is always pretty good. However, today I tried to order a mojito as it is National Mojito Day. There was mint and lime at the bar so it didn't seem to be a big deal. But, the bartender said the boss doesn't allow drinks that aren't on the menu. Hmmm... So I said okay, I'll take the classic margarita but let's make it with muddled mint, sugar, and lime wink wink. The bartender responds that margaritas don't have anything muddled in them. I might expect this in a corporate place, but c'mon! He checks with the boss and she says no because they make their mojitos with mint infused simple syrup and they didn't have any. Crazy! Turned down a $12 or $13 cocktail and another drink for my dad. Very disappointed! Probably skip it next time in town. Simple things! read more

Seated in their large room, greeted quickly by a very nice server. we were given menus that were extremely limited. very few choices. beer menu was large, wine menu had two choices, red or white, eleven dollars a glass, and I mean only two choices. very large room, so very loud we could really not hold a conversation. My experience with Fork & Ale has been hit & miss. I've had fish tacos that are very good, and my boyfriend has elk with a killer au jus. But the trout dish was ... confusing? It did taste good, but the "gnocchi" was more like spätzle (which came in lots of tiny bits plus one giant, grizzled clump) and the "butter sauce" was basically a broth (which did little to cling to or flavor the fish). The service is kind, and the spot gets bonus points for having hop water and a few nonalcoholic beers. The outdoor seating & outdoor bar are nice, and it's one of the few restaurant options that aren't either fancy high-end or Italian or diners. read more

The food was first class! Fried fish had such a lovely light coating almost like tempura. The kielbasa sandwich was excellent! The kielbasa was braised and served with a beer cheddar and onion sauce. Very good! I came for lunch and got a variety of appetizers and snacks and some cocktails and all of it was very good. We had the deviled eggs, pickles, pear bruschetta, arancini, and mushroom lettuce wraps. All of the food was very tasty and decent portions for snacks and appetizers. Second trip here and the summary is : disappointing. We got the short rib dish with basil risotto, Thai chili wings and a special seared halibut. Halibut was solid no complaints. Basil risotto was very basil flavored but that was about it, I think salt would have helped? The short ribs, if that's what they were were thin medallions of grisly beef. I eat a fair amount of short ribs and they are thick, tender and delicious just not at Fork & Ale. The wings, billed crispy on the menu were a bit soggy and possibly fully cooked but no given there. Sent the wings back but got billed for 'open food'? Loved it here the first time but can only ask: WTF happened? It's highly likely this was our last visit. read more

To be honest, I enjoyed this place, but I just didn't quite love it. I met a friend here for an early dinner one afternoon, as it was a happy medium for us both. We arrived for happy hour specials, and so we decided to stick to those. Their beer selection was kind of mediocre. If you've got ale in your name I expect somewhat of an upper class selection, however, there were only maybe two beers that came off as any bit enticing (and that's pushing it). The pricing wasn't terrible for the HH specials, and sizes certainly matched, however the flavor in my fried rice was sub par and a bit oily. The HH Mussel Soba noodles were delectable, however. There's a few items on the regular menu I'd still like to try, and I can guarantee I'll order those house pickles again. But I haven't been in a rush to get back regardless. Wow! This was wonderful!!! So glad we stopped and had lunch. This will be a regular stop on the way to Reading. The beer selection was great! Can't wait to sample the wines. Appetizers were superb - duck roll and tuna tataki. Perfect presentation. Main courses were also excellent - ahi tuna melt open face sandwich and pulled pork caprese sandwich. It's a keeper! The Fork & Ale had a nice calm atmosphere with friendly and accommodating service. Our questions about menu items were answered, and requests were taken directly to the chef. We enjoyed the day's special soup; potato leek, two orders of the Prime Rib Dip, as well as the Warm Brussel Sprout Salad. Each item was a sizable portion and tasty. Our only concern were the appetizer portions, there were four people in our party and only three deviled eggs to the app. The Sweet Potato Wedges were very good but again, a small portion size. I enjoyed a cocktail, The Inside Job, and felt the price matched the value of the beverage. All in all, I recommend a lunch or dinner here! Great service, flavor, and entrees. Just happened to find this out of the way restaurant, and stopped in on a Saturday night. The menu looked interesting, so we gave it a shot. Everything was tasty and well-prepared. The menu should read: Chicken Wings - $ based on availability and Mkt Price Sweet Street offers frozen world class desserts and are 15 minutes away . No reason in the world not to offer desserts .
