Passing through town, we stopped for an early dinner. At 4:30 we expected the restaurant to be empty .... but NOOOOO. The place was jumping. We were happy they could seat us. My husband and I assessed Austin's differently. He ordered prime rib which he said was nothing short of perfect. Cooked medium rare as requested, tender, juicy -- he savored every bite. I scanned the menu. Nothing jumped out at me. (I generally don't gravitate to steakhouse-type restaurants.) I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs. My point of comparison is Longhorn's which offers more of a bang-for-a-buck, and in my opinion better tasting ribs. Not to say that Austin's aren't good. They are. Based on the popularity of Austin's, it's clear management knows what they're doing. But I think a small salad and baked potato should be available with the price of the entree -- not worth the extra $7 I was going to be charged. The salad is listed as 'field greens,' -- which it's not -- but reading the menu you'll see they mean iceberg and romaine. The salad was good, enhanced by their garlic ranch dressing. We washed down our meals with well-priced drinks: merlot ($8.90) and Blue Moon ($6.90), then splurged on dessert. Austin's flourless double chocolate brownie a la mode is very rich. One order for two adults is plenty. Austin's is aptly described as a family restaurant. A lot of kids. A lot of noise. Service is friendly and on-the-ball. While not my kind of restaurant, if prime rib is your thing -- this could be the place! read more

The ribs are fall off the bone AMAZING!!! We both got the half rack with chicken tenders (huge portion). Fries, and coleslaw! Yum! Great service,too! We came with my Grandmother in a wheelchair, the evening before Easter. The staff were wonderful accomodating. Restaurant was sparkling clean, Food was fantastic- can't say enough good things. We had the shrimp and scallop dinner, Pad Thai, and filet mignon dinner. All were great- thanks for a great dinner! read more

As it turns out, Austin's is a beacon of trust & reliability in the ever disappointing, disappearing, & decaying landscape of the restaurant business. Their unapologetic commitment to consistency, formula, & "if it ain't broke don't fix it" has built a following large enough to keep those giant booths filled every day. Who knew delivering generous portions of American Classics the same way EVERY SINGLE VISIT would hold people's attention for 30 years. Went to Austin's for my birthday and it did not disappoint. The place is dark and dim in the best way; clean, cozy, and gives off a diner vibe but with some class. Our server was super nice and knew the menu like the back of their hand. I started with the crab corn chowder and honestly... it might be the best soup I've ever had. Creamy, flavorful, and the crab wasn't overpowering at all. I could eat that over and over. For my entrée, I had the steak, mashed potatoes, and string beans. Everything was solid. The potatoes weren't my fave, but still pretty good. Overall, a great spot and a perfect birthday dinner. I'll be back for sure. 10/10 Recommend read more

I was really impressed by this place. It is not cheap but you get a good meal and good service. I had the shrimp pasta and it had incredible flavor with some good size shrimp in it. Also had the cheesesteak egg rolls for an appetizer and they were amazing. Our waitress was very friendly and kept our drinks full. I would without a doubt come back here. read more

My wife and I just left Austin's. We generally eat here few times a month. Normally, a wonderful place to grab a quiet dinner. Unfortunately, this evening a very loud and obnoxious table could be heard throughout the restaurant. Bad enough for servers to apologize for having to scream. Everything was just eh! Service was kind and friendly, but didn't stop by often to check. Ambiance is nice, though as others mentioned, it was dark. They gave us a huge booth for just the three of us, and that was nice. Food was good, but nothing superb. None of our food was very hot, though it was all cooked. Baked potato was barely room temperature. Crab and artichoke dip was very crab heavy. We went on a Sunday so our child could eat free, and that was about the biggest perk. It was all just fine-- not great and not bad. We'll continue to try other places first before returning here. read more

A good friend recently suffered the loss of his mother. As he lives out of the area, he utilized the Austin's Restaurant and Bar in Reading to host a small reception for family members to gather, enjoy a meal and share memories of his parents. The food was very good and reasonably priced. More important was that the staff at this site was great to work with. They allowed my friend and his relatives to have a somewhat secluded section of the restaurant and then the team working at Austin's provided outstanding service. From taking orders, refreshing drinks, quickly responding to multiple small requests and just ensuring and overall friendly environment. They made the day much easier on my friend and allowed him spend time with friends and family. Parking is plentiful and free. I would highly recommended Austin's for the combination of staff and food. read more

This a great spot for a special occasion or just a good meal out. I love the old school dark Sinatra era decor and music. The booths are super comfortable and big enough for 4-6 people We come for lunch a lot and you can order off the lunch or the regular menu. This visit I went with the soup and salad combo. The lobster bisque is the best I have ever had I think. There was a LOT of fresh lobster meat served on top. The salad was fresh mixed greens. We got a loaf of their bread which was a bit dry today but usually is really a great addition to the meal. This is a shared service restaurant which usually means you get a lot of fast service. Our section was very busy and was double sat with a large party and a four top so I think that just threw things off a little bit. Austin's is a great place for friends and family to get together no matter the occasion. I will definitely be back! read more

Normally had excellent things to say about this place, but we were there earlier this week for my wife's birthday. She ordered a petite filet mignon, and it was definitely a ribeye. Love Austin's and while I didn't get a picture of it, their baked potato soup is bomb! We also ordered the lobster bisque which was also delicious. All of our food was tasty and cooked just right. We had no complaints. The atmosphere of the restaurant is dim, but the tables are lit very well (for anyone that has lighting sensitivity or have concerns reading menus in dark restaurants). The restaurant always has a classy but cozy vibe and very friendly wait staff. Drinks are always good- recommend their white wine, Covid Crush & Pineapple Express (these are the drinks we ordered and enjoyed them)! There is outdoor seating but we sat inside. I believe there are also heaters available if you want to sit outside. Sitting outside would be nice on a warmer night so I would like to do that sometime. Always make a reservation if you want to eat here especially on Fridays or Saturdays. Overall I recommend this place! read more

This place is incredible. More people need to know about it. I had half a rack of ribs and they were phenomenal. The barbecue sauce is what did it. I got them with the cinnamon apples and French fries and both of those sides were mouthwatering. The only thing that would make this place better is if it had a TouchTunes jukebox. read more

The chicken bourchetta was pretty bland. It was really surprising how bland it was. The service was also quite poor. They kept trying to rush me to leave as a solo dinner even though the restaurant was not busy and it was closing soon but they didn't even let me know that. Even so, they still had large groups still there and were not rushing them. I also asked for some of my food to go and they tossed me a styrofoam box to pack my own food. Out of my frustration, I left after paying and then realized I had left my food in the styrofoam box. I turned around and after some minutes of discussion near the kitchen, they came back and said they threw it away. I'm very stingy with my stars VERY STINGY but this place deserves it. Lobster Bisque was wonderful with big pieces of meat in it. Had the short ribs they just fell apart full of flavor and everything came out hot! The bread with the maple butter was a treat.
