Came in today and put a $20 in a skills machine....took my $20....had to wait for someone to contact the owner....was told someone would contact me....leaving now and no one has contacted me....ripped off for $20! Would not recommend. read more

After returning from the bathroom, the owner said he needs the table and that we were in the bathroom "so long". When we explained we still intended to sit and eat and drink more from the restaurant, he walked away, mumbling, "I need a fucking table I need to make money". We talked to the waitress and she was kind so we said we could move to a communal table to make room for others. I'm still not sure why we were asked to move, as everyone was there from the start of the Eagles game as well. Very bad experience with the owner with no apology from him. read more

This place isn't bad. It had an odd menu and the food is kind of mid. The staff is friendly but not super attentive and our bartender was kind of a pain. (Would ask us the same question a few times, then bring us the wrong thing or get things mixed up, this was a Friday at like 3pm). First off I never say anything negative because I give people the benefit of the doubt but every time I have come here, whether with my husband for brunch or when we bring the kids for brunch the bar tender is always nasty to me. The first time I thought maybe she is having an off day when I said "May I please have more champagne and a splash of juice in my mimosa and she said "Don't tell me what to do" with an attitude and I thought she was joking but she wasn't. I was so stunned she even said that that my husband and I looked at each other, wondering if she was actually serious. As a bartender your job is to prepare my drink as I ask you to, not to give me an attitude!!. Another time, this time with my kids she gave an attitude when they didn't have the beer my husband asked for. Today I went with friends and the sun was shining in all of our eyes and neighboring tables(Who thanked me btw), so I went over and closed the blind to not disturb anyone and she came over with and a disgusted looked on her face as if I did something wrong and told me next time to "Ask someone from the staff to close it." I was not in a staff area or anything like that, just went over to the window where tables were, pulled the cord and she actually embarrassed me and acted as though I did something wrong. I never pull the race card but I feel as though it is because I am a white female that for whatever reason I am on her radar and she seems to lash out on me. I will never go here again and she continues to make me feel uncomfortable for being a mere patron of the restaurant. She is an over-weight, dark haired bartender and I refuse to go anywhere and pay to be embarrassed or treated poorly. Service is EVERYTHING! Please control your bartenders as you have lost and will lose more customers due to her ignorance and poor attitude! She treated me like garbage and no one should feel that way when going out and paying for a meal and service. I feel sorry for anyone else who has had to deal with this individual. This place hits on so many positives so I will put this into business quadrants. 1) Food -great options for food, examples best pizza outside of the legendary Pizzeria Beddia in Philly, Salids( eating healthy , great options, great appetizers like the buffalo chicken dipp. 2) great drinks, the beer is cold, the drink options for kids and non alcoholic drinks are abundant , and the mix drinks are strong 3) atmosphere -by far the most to offer in the Reading /Wyomissing area . More TVs, great music, and lively atmosphere . The facilty is clean, bright and great temperature. 4) management -attentive , on there game and active 5) bartenders , friendly , attentive and fast 6) serving staff, attentive , friendly and going once a week , they actually recognize you and are so greatful for your patronage. In addition , the staff stays, so its not a constant rotation of new people. 7) family friendly -yes great place for kids to watch a game but understand its a restaurant with a bar so be mindful that certain times and days are best. Example , Saturday night after 8:30, 3rd and Spruce gets a great adult crowd, its more of a fun bar atmosphere and not best for kids at that time and day. We waited 45 minutes for salads at lunch that were overly salted with wilted lettuce. They need additional servers at lunch. Our server was unable to take care of all of his tables. Basic deep fried bar food with a wide range of beer choices. I was taken there for a business meeting while visiting Reading and it's not a comfortable setting to meet for work. I had a terrible experience at this place. My friends and I were excited to check it out, but we were turned away at the door because two of us were wearing beanies. The first of us to give an ID was first accused of wearing black sweatpants... they were black jeans. The person checking IDs was rude and didn't even give us a chance to explain before the bouncer came over and told us we couldn't come in because of the beanies. The sign clearly doesn't say no beanies it says no durags which to me seems problematic to begin with. Additionally there were countless people with baseball caps so you would think the rule would apply to all headwear. Not to mention the Halloween costume some had because it was the Saturday following Halloween. It's ridiculous that they enforce such arbitrary dress code rules. To make matters worse, these rules seem to target specific cultural items like durags and long chains, which feels like racial profiling. We won't be coming back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a welcoming and fair establishment. We used to love it here because of the welcoming atmosphere and dart board. They actually just got rid of that as well so unless you like low end bar food and disrespectful staff/policy I'd say save yourself the trouble and skip it. read more

After hearing nothing but negative feedback about this place since it changed ownership, my family and I decided to go. We made reservations and were sat quickly by a server. We did call prior to bump up our reservations, which they were able to accommodate. Mollie was our server and one of the stars is for her. She was super nice and quick to get the things we needed when asked. We started off with drinks. They were out of kids cups, which was a bit difficult at times having two smaller children. My husband ordered a beer, which wound up being out, but got another one. I had ordered a mojito, which took about 10 minutes or so to get. Now, I understand the bar was busy. However, when I see multiple drinks coming out but mine - irritating. The drink wasn't very good for the money I spent on it. It tasted like straight up like juice and club soda with no rum to be found. I also didn't enjoy the lack of mint or limes a mojito typically has in it. My husband had come here with friends prior and loved the old fashioned. This one he did not. He said something was missing and the first one he ever had there was great. We ordered the kids' food and a couple of apps to start with. The curds and hot mama wings came out prior to the kids' food, which again, took forever given the crowd. The curds were excellent but the side of sauce could be a bit bigger. The wings... the wings had excellent flavor. However, charging almost $10 for the tiniest itty bitty wings is awful. Yes, being in the industry I understand the inflation on wings, but then remove them from your menu. The size of these wings were embarrassing. We then ordered the haus dip and quesadillas. The dip had a great flavor with some kick, but it wasn't overly hot. I had asked for no chorizo in my quesadilla, but it came out with so much chorizo and very little chicken. Therefore, I couldn't eat it. Mollie did however ask if I wanted a new one. But given the amount of time it was taking for food, we skipped it. Lastly we ordered their special mussels. They weren't overly hot and the broth it was in tasted almost like plain milk. Overall, our bill was $126 for everything. The food wasn't anything to write home about. The service wasn't too bad. I do feel like this place has the potential but needs more help or even time. I really wanted to love it here as I had always enjoyed coming here before new ownership took place. I most likely won't be returning unless I hear that things are changing for the better. read more

Very nice place! Great food, I'm not yet 21 so I can't drink but I assume it has good drinks as well! My food came out much quicker than I expected, mainly because most other places don't make food as fast, and its not because there aren't as many people coming in, becase there are a lot of people coming in, but because they aren't just sitting in the kitchen. I think anyone who comes in here can see that this place is just something else, it has better service, food, and general looks of things than many places have, I've been coming here for many years and have thought the same thing every time I come in here but somehow it still gets better! read more

Worst service EVER! If I could give this place a negative star I would! The bartender that served us last night was so RUDE! She acted like she couldn't be bothered with us! Like we were inconveniencing her. She didn't smile once. Slammed our drinks on the bar and walked away. My wife and I were unsure if we offended her in someway. Or maybe she was having a bad night. But After watching her interact with other patrons we realized she was just ignorant. She was overheard calling other patrons derogatory names. Apparently this is the norm. The people around us said she always behaves this way. Calling customers C**ts should not be the norm! How is anyone tipping her? My hubbie and I were craving some apps after a long week. We hadn't been to 3rd and Spruce since the pandemic had begun but knew they had fresh oysters on the menu. We were immediately impressed when we walked in at the upgrades. The restaurant seems very clean, bar stools were comfortable and in style too. Best of all the draft list had a beer for everyone. We had a dozen oysters which the outgoing and joyful staff helped us pick out. The oysters were fresh and from an assortment of places. Being a transplant and originally from the shore in New England I am picky about seafood. I was impressed by the oysters quality! We also tried the duck flatbread. This was exceptional, there was ample duck meat and the flatbread was warm. We devoured it. Every sport you could want was on and the natural light around 6pm was awesome. I returned to the Spruce after a long absence as I heard ownership recently changed. I was pleased to see the Spruce given the refresh it deserved from exterior to interior. I have returned multiple times as the staff is welcoming and friendly. The beer selection is as good as any in Berks and the food is always fantastic. I have said many times their french Fries are the best in Berks. I brought a group of friends in for lunch and all enjoyed the service and food. The atmosphere provides a metro vibe which is so very much needed in Berks county. The longboard shuffleboard table is first class is a must play!!! read more

I was able to host a gender reveal for my daughter there a couple weeks ago and the customer service was awesome. Morgan was our Bartender and she was very attentive and her drinks are on point. Ericka and I hope that is her name was our chef and the food she whipped up was also very tasty & she is super sweet. Everyone enjoyed the food and the drinks. I highly recommend having a gathering there. It's affordable and they are open to letting you decorate to fit your needs. The manager was also very helpful, he reached out to me via text and email. One small thing make sure if you have kids at your event, you order from the kids menu which is an additional cost. Under 12 are free but the food selection is from the reg. menu. There is probably something for everyone here no mater your tastes. Great food and really eclectic menu from Burgers to Seafood to Steak and a terrific selection of beer, both on tap and bottled. The young lady behind the bar was first rate! The table service was efficient and the presentation good. If you like fresh oysters or wings we found them especially good. Live entertainment on several nights They have a banquet room with its own bar. There are sports on TV and a game area. For those who aren't familliar, the Spruce was closed for some time and, after undergoing extensive renovation, reopened in the Spring of 2021 under new ownership and with a new crew. We found prices reasonable and I saw vegetarian options available too. We're glad it's back and being run well. Good place to hang out. Actually better than I remember. Give it a try. Oh yeah, they have their own off-street parking lot. read more
