This place has become a favorite of my husband's and mine! The food and service are consistently excellent! The drinks are served up strong and service by our server tonight, Grace, was very attentive. Every time we come here we order the crispy potstickers appetizer and we agreed that their fried pickles are the best we've had anywhere. The dill dipping sauce that comes with the fried pickles is the bomb. My husband loves burgers and it's not always easy to find places that actually serve great burgers, but tonight he said "this is delicious!" Our server, Grace, was friendly, helpful and paid attention to the right time when to offer another drink or see if we want anything else. The music playing is a mix of genres so there's something for everyone and we enjoy it. They play it at the perfect volume. Loud enough to hear it well but not so loud that we can't hear each other talk. And, the outdoor patio seating is dog friendly! Reading some of the other reviews, I am baffled that people are leaving three and four stars when they have nothing but raving positive things to say (awesome, fantastic, etc) about the food, drinks, ambiance and service. Our friends & we go here for the rum buckets. We don't have a problem with the food or service. We were there Saturday Aug 1 celebrating our friend's birthday. We sat outside because last year this is where you had to sit to get the rum buckets. This year outside bar was closed & they had to get them from inside . Had we known this, we would have preferred to sit inside as 2 of us have hearing problems. You can imagine our reaction when live outside music was being set up. Ok. Fine. It was not awful as the volune was kept at a reasonable level. Our problem was when the singer stepped aside & brought 2 little girls up to sing. We are in a public restaurant & should not feel obligated to pay attention & listen to children while WE are trying to enjoy ourselves & celebrate a birthday. I visited Reading Pagoda and stopped in here on my way back. The food was pretty basic but yummy. My vodka punch was really great. They card everyone at the table if you get an alcoholic beverage. First time here and seated outdoors since it was a gorgeous day. Service was excellent. Our server was on point and attentive, and friendly. Food was great! I had the fried shrimp po'boy and it was that good that I will come again just for that alone. Fried pickles were excellent if you like pickles! Hit the spot. Even their chips are good. Came here with a friend after an outing this past Friday around 5pm. It was before the typically Friday night crowd so it was very open seating and a relaxed environment. They had outdoor and indoor seating, but we opted to sit indoors. We both ordered a drink, an app, as well as an entree. The drinks were strong, the app was really good, however the entree was a bit bland (the fries where the best part). Pet friendly! Extensive craft beer selection, outdoor patio where you can bring your dog, and a menu that at least tries to think outside the box. And that counts for something! Let's talk about the dogs for a moment - this can either be a pro or a con. If dogs frighten you, then take heed - you may run in to some here. Now, most people won't even be aware that you're ALLOWED to bring your dog and sit on the patio, but in summer months, don't be surprised to see at least one or two canines on the deck. Locals know about the pet-friendly nature of this establishment, and they take full advantage of it. The food gets an "A" for effort - there are some dishes on the menu that you just won't find in many other Berks County establishments. And in that regard, I like where their head's at. But at the same time, if you're going leave your comfort zone, you'd better know what you're doing. Take, for example, the lobster roll. A New England mainstay, this iconic sandwich is often imitated, never duplicated. Hell, even McDonald's has even rolled out their take this summer (https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/lobster-rolls-return-to-some-mcdonalds-locations-for-2016). There's a lobster roll on the menu here, and it's an abomination. The roll itself was a limp, soggy mess, but what should have been the star - ya know, the lobster - was a chalky, flavorless mess. Is there imitation lobster? I know there's imitation crab ("krab"), but at least the texture is somewhat similar. Perhaps humanity hasn't perfected imitation lobster just yet. Or maybe this was actual lobster but aged entirely too long (hint: aging lobster isn't a thing). Lobster meat should be a sumptuous delight. The lobster here has scarred me for life. Ok, that's it for the negativity. Some standouts? The beer selection. This place earns every right to have "taproom" in its name. Craft beer enthusiasts will be in for a treat. I also like their unique take on classic dishes. Take the pierogi appetizer for example. No, it's not a dozen pathetically sized frozen pierogies thrown on a plate with a side of sour cream. Try to imagine a giant potato pancake, folded in half, topped with sauteed peppers, melty cheese, and smothered in jalapeno ranch and fresh chunky salsa. Pierogies, meet the south west. Really pleasurable experience overall. The chefs can sometimes be a little overambitious for their own good, but I do appreciate their attempt to spruce up timeless classics. read more

I've been a drink critic for the last 5 minutes here at Liberty Taproom. Ethan, my man, has made the most exquisite Arnold Palmer I have ever tasted in my career. I highly recommend this bar. After being a critic for 10 minutes I have decided this is an incredible bar and grill. I had the Honeydew Martini and my friend had the Blood Orange Margarita. Both were absolutely phenomenal and I was extremely impressed. We enjoyed the Crab Pretzel and of course the classic chicken tenders and fries. Both dishes were absolutely revolutionary. While enjoying our meal the sous chef conversed with us. All of the workers were incredibly kind and presented a comfortable and fun ambiance. Ethan informed us he had created the entire cocktail menu himself, proving his skills in mixology. Overall this experience was top ten in my book. read more

We had a great time here last night! We decided to come here again at the last minute around 10:30pm. The place was almost packed. The music was jamming from a live DJ and most everyone was feeling the good music vibes! Our waitress was ok even though she seemed like she wanted to be elsewhere. We ordered their wings. This place is one my top 3 wing places in Berks County! The wings here are definitely different. They're breaded, crispy, large and juicy! The variety of wing sauces are good too. The only thing is, their wing sauce is different than everywhere else. Normal mild sauce is mild hot sauce with a shot of butter. Their mild hot sauce is cream based. Went yesterday with a friend to watch football and grab a bite. It was pretty empty. So we sit at the bar and have the male bartender ignore us. Finally a nice young lady came around from the other side and helped us. I ordered wings. When I got them it was obvious they were reheated and not fresh made. The blue cheese was watered down. I took most of them home so I could heat them properly. Next, I notice the male bartender sneezing into his hands several times, after which he grabs customers' mugs, sometimes with both hands, and gives them refills. It was disgusting. I won't be back. And just a note, the two young ladies working the bar were friendly and provided good service. But someone needs to retrain the rude dude on how to treat customers and to stay home if you're sick. read more

We went there the day after Christmas 2022. A really nicely appointed bar with lots of TV's. We sat at the bar and had a choice of 32 different beers on tap. Most beers at 5.00 dollars for a pint glass. Lots of bottled beers available also. And all the usual spirts but some specialty cocktails that we would like to try. The food was very good. 3 stars only because my date and myself were seated for quite some time and did not receive service, and eventually I had to summon a waitress (the bar was full of people and had a bartender on duty, but we had sat at a table). The chicken quesadillas were excellent, some of the better ones I have had around, and the crab pretzel was very good too. They have an interesting menu with a few Asian dishes, and also have lots of local drafts. Also I believe they have an outside seating area which looks like a nice time when summer comes around. As I wander across the country seeking out great beer spots my Yelp Mobile App has struck gold once again. Well maybe not gold but at least great golden beer! These folks have 32 drafts and a very impressive list of 450 bottles. I've visited plenty of places with more taps but rarely have I experienced this many bottles. If you are a beer aficionado it's certain you will be pleased. Part of that pleasure will come from competent bartenders that know their beers. My guy was Pat and he knew his stuff. I had a chance to chat with my fellow bar patrons and they mentioned that other bartenders here are also very knowledgeable. The bar atmosphere is more brew pub than sports bar but the eighteen TVs will likely satisfy the sports fans. The stools are comfortable. I perused the menu and decided to go for the Stromboli. You can choose Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham, or all three with Green Peppers, Mushrooms, and Mozzarella. (Large $15.75, Medium $9.75, Personal $7.75) I was hungry so I went for a medium combo of all three. Silly me! This thing was gigantic! I felt like Adam on Man vs. Food. When it was placed in front of me I expected my fellow patrons to start chanting and cheering me on. It was slightly under-cooked but still very good. Needless to say "Food" won this day. No T-shirt for me! I come from the Philly area where Yelp activity is very high. Many places have dozens if not hundreds of reviews. As I write this these folks have 15 reviews with a solid 4 star rating. Don't let the small number of reviews dissuade you. Hearing from my relatives about this palace for beer aficionados I somehow expected it to have a "snobby sports bar / nightclub" vibe, but the decor seems to be a reboot of whatever modest restaurant or bar previously occupied the building. Which is good, because it means they probably didn't go (as) broke opening the place and they'll give you a four beer tasting flight for $8. "beer tasting flight." (Wine tasting for men?) Came here with my cousin and got these four: - Anchor steam summer ale - a pleasant surprise, this went down super easy kind of like Kirin or Singha, and might even make you feel hydrated on a warm day. - Mojo IPA: a nicely balanced brew, didn't leave too strong of an impression though because I also had: - Blue Moon Pumpkin, which was a fairly subtle flavoring of the mass market craftbrew, and: - Devious Imperial Pumpkin, which I would call a totally non-subtle pumpkin cider claiming to be beer... and I loved it, at least in a 4 oz portion. Not sure if I could handle a pint of it, but man was it flavorful and spicy. Service was especially attentive and friendly (and attractive? can I say that?) probably because we were the only people there at 4pm on a Friday. Our server seemed to know quite a bit about the beers on offer. Oh, right, we got two or three appetizers to accompany the beer and now in total violation of writing style guidelines I'll abruptly segue to what I remember of them. They were all especially warm and fresh (jalapeno poppers nicely fried), and the "not knots" which came drizzled in just enough garlic and oil were fairly awesome, a bit like a doughier version of Auntie Anne's pretzels. The egg on the loaded tots was cooked over hard- pretty sure the reason there's an egg on top in the first place is so that you can slice into the yolk and have it mix in. Also, the scallions were missing, as was the garlic aioli on the burger I ordered, but this seems like small potatoes in comparison to my husband's chicken bruschetta sandwich being RAW in the middle. The server was grossed out and took it off the bill. We declined to get another, since what we had tasted was pretty bland. Been a few years since I have been here and came with a bunch of friends on a Saturday night. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Their draft beer selection is really good. Lots of regional beers of all types. Service was excellent as we constantly had bartenders asking if we needed anything. I have a garlic allergy so I let them know and they let me know what I could and could not order. I got the sea bass special and it was really good. Probably the best I have had in a very long time. They got a new chef a few months ago and what an improvement!! I had a pizza and it was delicious!! Despite having fried chicken and bacon on it, it was not at all greasy. The crust was cooked perfectly. I also had the giant pierogi which was awesome and my boyfriend's chicken cheese steak was excellent as well (fresh cut fries!). The beer selection is one of the best around. Prices are reasonable and they fill growlers too. We have been here a lot more frequently thanks to the new chef! Great food and great beer. read more

Philadelphia has Chickies and Pete's, Baltimore has the ESPN Zone, and Reading has the Liberty Taproom! Okay maybe not the exact same class, but it is a cool spot nonetheless. This is a great spot to hang out and watch a game on one of their gazillion TV's (maybe closer to 15 Tv's). It doesn't have taproom in its name just for the heck of it, this place has a beast of a selection of draught beers. They have a beer list that changes every day, or at most every couple of days. The rotation is extremely fresh, and about two pages on a special beer menu that is located at every table. If you don't care for a draught beer then check out the bottle options (you can view it online, and there must be over 100 beers to choose from). So I hope I got my point across to you - this place is a must for any beer lover. By the way, if you really enjoyed a beer here, after your dinner you can go to their takeout room and get a 6 pack of that beer to go, this is fabulous and more places should have something like this. As far as the food goes, this place is good on that too! The menu is a large bar type of food variety, and the food ranges from pizza and wings to tacos. They have really good cheese fries, and speaking of the fries they are the crispier kind. The personal pizzas are really good, the crust is a light but crispy. Pizza is one of my favorite menu items that they offer. There have been times however that there were small inconsistencies in the food or the service, but this place gets packed, and I mean packed! The happy hour crowd will merge and blend into the late night crowd, and it can be tough to grab a table, let alone a waiter or a waitress that is attentive to your needs. However this is not a fine dining spot, so I give them a bit of a pass. In the spring and fall it is nice to sit out on their patio, and this might be the other spot that they can improve upon. They have a damaged part of the patio, and it is very noticeable (part of a retaining wall is collapsing), I would hope that they have plans to fix it soon. They also have live bands or DJs that will perform from time to time, so if you get there late be prepared to have a loud atmosphere. Had Wings my first visit, they were OK, but nothing special...Second visit I was excited to try the JB Burger...with Bacon and a fried egg...and was very disappointed...the burger itself was packed way to tight, like a hockey puck...and cooked thru, even tho I asked for medium...It was very dry and bland. The poor thing never had a chance, it was packed so tight i'm sure I could have thrown it to my buddy like a frisbee...A hand formed patty should be on the brink of falling apart in your hands, not like you could use it as a coaster. The egg may have saved it, but it came on top of the cheese, which is a very thick slab that won't allow any yolk to penetrate...rookie mistake, I should have flipped the burger upside down and put the egg on the beef...but the real disappointment was the bacon...I pulled it off and tossed it, seemed like it didn't even hit the grill. Very soft and chewy, not the crunchy and flavorful texture I want on a burger. I'm not sure who would want that on a burger, it was really gross! Liberty has great food at reasonable prices and a decent happy hour. However the bar staff are very poor ! My fiancé and multiple times sat with an empty drink as the bartender's stood gossiping and texting. I wish the bar atmosphere was more personable as I feel the bartenders are there to hang out and chat with each other rather than serve the customers. read more

Food is good. I'll stop there. The bartender who is actually the General Manager has the personality of a zit. His name is Alex. He thinks we are doing him a favor by coming there. Lazy and inattentive. Worrying about his phone instead of his customers. Asked for a menu, after 20 minutes I got up and left. Never came back to see if I wanted food and there were no more than 8 people at the bar. This isn't the first time this has happened but it will be the last.
