    BBQ wings
    Jeff R.

The best wings around! Smoked and lightly fried. Cracked Hot, Irish Pride, Sweet Old Bay and BBQ were sampled. Each flavor was on point with its own merits. The wings were nit over sauced. The service was excellent at the take out counter. I drive 30 minutes for these wings. The best of Berks County for sure!

Ask the Community - The Van Reed Inn

Do they have a wing night and if so when is it?

Monday night is wing night but it has been cancelled until Covid restrictions allow us to open fully.

Are dogs allowed on the patio? Thank you for your answer!

Hello! We are HUGE dog lovers but unfortunately because our patio does not have an exterior entrance all patrons have to walk through the restaurant to get to it. As a result unfortunately we can’t allow dogs. Sorry.

Problem was the service or lack thereof . After we were seated and handed on menus by the hostess, it took 10 minutes for the waitress Makayla E to show up and introduce herself. Then after the main course was delivered, she never checked back with us to see if we're enjoying our food. Basically myself and my dad were pretty much ignored. Worse yet. We got to observe the middle-aged manager with a ponytail yell at two of these staff. One was our waitress, and the other was a young African-American gentleman. Instead of doing it in his office in private, he chose to do it in the bar where my dad and I could hear the whole conversation. Apparently the ponytailed manager was complaining that $34 was missing from the register and he wanted to know which one of them had been in the register. Totally unprofessional for a "manager "to have this conversation in earshots of the guest. The final straw. Not only did our waitress ignore us but The ponytail manager walked back-and-forth past our table multiple times without once saying hello or seeing if we are enjoying our meal. Overall, food was good. Service was horrible disrespectful to ignore your guest. Never going back.

The drinks are served up strong and service by our server tonight, Grace, was very attentive. Every time we come here we order the crispy potstickers appetizer and we agreed that their fried pickles are the best we've had anywhere. The dill dipping sauce that comes with the fried pickles is the bomb. My husband loves burgers and it's not always easy to find places that actually serve great burgers, but tonight he said "this is delicious!" Our server, Grace, was friendly, helpful and paid attention to the right time when to offer another drink or see if we want anything else. The music playing is a mix of genres so there's something for everyone and we enjoy it. They play it at the perfect volume. Loud enough to hear it well but not so loud that we can't hear each other talk. And, the outdoor patio seating is dog friendly! Reading some of the other reviews, I am baffled that people are leaving three and four stars when they have nothing but raving positive things to say (awesome, fantastic, etc) about the food, drinks, ambiance and service. That makes a place worthy of a five star review. Do yourself a favor and visit the Liberty Taproom!

My wife ordered a mixed drink from the bar and I ordered Weihenstephaner beer; both were delightful. We tried the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers (best we have had in years) and their fritters. They are a from scratch kitchen, so everything was fresh... and they try to make as much as they can in house, including the breads and sandwich buns. We each ordered soup, my wife got their bisque and I got a du jour squash soup. My wife got a crab cake sandwich and I got a smash burger. Her sandwich was delightful. The bacon onion jam was amazing, and the burgers were perfectly prepared on my smash burger... and the bun was something special. This time, hostess seemed to have some type of problem deciding where to put us and then took us to the left into what I would call a cocktail lounge. Ok, not going to make a stink on our anniversary. We were put at a large circular table up higher off the ground. And the chairs - or stools more correctly - also of course higher. Let me add, we are both over 80. Still in reasonable good health, but if people came in who used maybe canes or who had more mobility problems, don't know where they would be put. If they fell off a stool, State Hill could have one heck of a lawsuit. The hostess tossed our menus on the table and without another word, left. The waiter came by quickly - a low talker, nice guy but could hardly hear him. We both ordered Mediterranean chicken and my wife got a salad (a very big one it was). Food came promptly, all at one time - the salad with both our dinners. So does my wife eat the salad first and let her food sit and get cold or the food first and then the salad for dessert? (We ended up taking the salad home.) The chicken was, well, chicken. Tasteless chicken at that. And broccolini, which is best described as an unsightly, tasteless (like the chicken), barely edible vegetable. Does the nicer dining room still exist? I don't know - did not think to look as we left. But doesn't matter. We won't be back. About $100 + $20 tip (other than being a low talker, the waiter was nice.) And 3% was added to our bill for using a credit card. Note to management - just raises your prices 3%. Putting it on the bill just doesn't look cool. And teach your service people that salads come first unless otherwise requested. Tell the one male waiter to speak up. And if the nicer dining room is till there, put people there if they are there for their anniversary, not in a cocktail lounge (aka sports bar). Or at least say online that the lounge is all you have.
