Its still new and they seem to be working through the kinks but overall I really liked this place. Great beer selection and very reasonable prices. Though I was dying to have the chicken and waffles, they unfortunately had run out. It was 10pm on a Saturday so I guess you take your chances and I'm sure they will have better planning because there were another 2 or 3 dishes that they were out of. This place is absolutely amazing. All meats are farm fresh and local. Amazing beer selection from local brewers too. I mean, what's not to love? The food is flat out AMAZING. If you think otherwise you must be crazy. Braised Short Rib, to die for! Lobster Roll on a croissant, give me 3! Hog Wings! I'll take 20 plz! Seriously, if you don't love this place bringing great, fresh food, made with pride and care, to a place like Southie, you have to be crazy. It has a creative menu that offers such a great variety of choices and dishes that you just can't find any where else and it changes frequently enough to always stay fresh. Place is a joke. The ambiance is cool and the location is solid, but, the service sucks. I've been here a handful of times and every time the service blows. They don't refill your water, they forget to put orders in, the waitresses are too busy texting on their phones to take your beer order nevermind bring the check when you are getting ready to get the hell out of here to go to a bar with REAL service. I've lived in Southie for 3 years and I used to love Farragut house and it's a joke amongst our friends about how POOR the service is now that it is Local 149. The food is inconsistent, sometimes it's bomb, sometimes it's sloppy. I have a pretty solid network of friends in Southie and I foresee this place lasting as long as Wolfie's. Shocking. read more

Wifey loves everything about this place and I like it almost as much. We've been for brunch and everything was great! She had Chicken and Waffles (and has since ordered it for dinner) and I had the Lox and Bagel, which was excellent. We've also been for lunch and dinner, with more mixed results. I had the burger for lunch and found it dry and overcooked, and the fried were underdone so they had that raw potato taste. If anyone had asked, I would have told them, but they didn't. Charcuterie plate was great, and the beer selection is extensive. Went for after work drinks, and ordered three things that they were out of, which was disappointing, especially because two of them were on the blackboard special. Why not just erase them if you're out? Which is what I asked them, but they never did. All that being said, almost everything we have eaten has been good, and the bartenders are really nice and friendly. The local food take is awesome, and the whole place is just really cool and comfy. We only ever sit at the bar, so I can't speak to the waiters or the tables. Highly inventive and fun menu, and cool special events. read more

I had to update my previous review of this place - each time we go the food seems to get better and better and the bartenders are great. You have try the burger that they just added to the menu. I have had great burgers at all the greats: Shake Shack, Sully's, Corner Bistro, Radius, Back Bay Social Club, DB Bistro, Resto - and I would add Local 149 to my personal "Best Burger" list. I would call this an 'artisan' burger because it has such unique flavor, primarily because of the garlic bun and pickled tomato. The beef might not be as high end as the Back Bay Social Club burger, but this burger kicks serious ass. read more

Wonderful neighborhood spot! I just moved in a few houses down and have already made this a regular spot. At first I was attracted by the Mac and cheese balls and the hand crafted and muddled signature cocktails. But after trying the wonderful food, I learned the bartenders were an even better reason to visit Local! Jeff and Ashely were so friendly and welcoming to me in the neighborhood. They are attentive and quick, but still make time to actually chat and get to know their customers. Go for the Mac and cheese, pretzels, or pastas and steak, but stay for the great people and outstanding staff :) read more

I ordered the $16 Steak and Eggs on the menu for brunch. It came with three pieces of steak tips, and 1 egg. Waste of money, and awful portion sizes. The bare bones meal was good, but terrible portion size for the cost. The service there is absolutely horrendous too. So many people standing around, not getting the customers what they asked for and often forgetting things. read more

It's okay. Ambiance good, service good...food is nothing special. It could be but it was just not quite right. Maybe we ordered wrong. The oysters were local and sweet, but not properly shucked so you ended up with a lot of small shell pieces in your mouth along with the oyster. Pork and clams was an interesting combo but didn't come together on the plate. The flavors just didnt go together. Plus the pork osso buco was very, very dry. The dish would have been better with just the fried clams and the potato salad. My friend stuck with a couple of apps and had a better experience....cheese fries and hog wings. Apps might be a safer way to go. Good beer selection though! read more

Tried to get something to eat on a recent night around 7pm, and after finding the Seaport area mobbed, I thought about Local 149, which I had been wanting to try. I heard it was opened by the owners of The Biltmore, which I used to absolutely love a few years ago when I lived in Newton. Local 149 is in a very strange spot off the beaten path in Southie, but upon walking in we knew we entered a cool spot. The hostess was very attentive and friendly, and we chose a high top table near the bar. The server proceeded to list off a long list of "beer" specials which I have never heard anyone do, so I thought that was really unique. I ordered the watermelon hefeweizen, which was really good (although I prefer draft over a can). We got a bunch of small plates, including Fried Pickles, Crab Cakes and Smothered Fries. The food was wholesome, tasty and just great. I would love to come back and order some of the entrees. The crowd was all young professionals and it was a great scene. The only reason I refuse to give this a five star rating is that the stools in the bar area are the cheapest, most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in. Go there and sit at the bar or in the restaurant, but avoid the high tops if you want a comfortable seat. read more

Really interesting food choices and a fabulous beer selection. It's a wonderful addition to the southie culinary lanscape, and pioneering in bringing this type of menu to the 'hood. The pressed duck prosciutto club tonight was delicious, the scallops were delicious but a disgracefully small portion for $19 (3 scallops?!). The duck sausage and ricotta pizza is drool-worthy. My BF and I can't really figure out the atmosphere yet. For a place with "local" in the name, we've been there an awful lot but still don't feel like regulars. I love a lot of the decor, the music, the lighting. The stools are seriously uncomfortable. Overall, very worth checking out!! read more

I can't even give the 149 one star, Went there with two other people we ordered the cheeseburger and chicken sandwich .We waited 30 minutes for our food.The cheese burger for $10 was smaller than the bun and the roll was stale. The chicken sandwich was like rubber and tasteless and that roll was stale also.The drink I got (sprite) didn't even come close to tasting like sprite. The fries were soggy and tasteless. They need to upgrade their product and get someone in the kitchen that know's how to cook. read more

I like this place a lot. I always order a few Moscow Mule along with the Farmers Plate and I'm a happy camper. I haven't tried most of the entrees, but the ones I have tasted are pretty good. However, the one time we ordered their bison chili it came out warm at best. Didn't want any special sauce in it so we didn't ask them to reheat. I've been to Local 149 many times now since it has opened. However the last few visits I've left a bit pissed off. I used to come here every weekend at least once either Friday or Saturday since I live close by. Recently, we were in and my girlfriend had a piece of glass in her drink. Now I know that sometimes you can have accidents happen behind the bar and glass can get into the ice bin but nothing was done about it. No new drink, nothing offered, and most of all being a regular you would think they would want me to still come in considering I've brought clients, friends and other acquaintances here for dinner and drinks. Next, I recently heard they have let one of their staff members go, Sean. Let me tell you he may have been your most friendly, easy going, full of personality, and attentive person tending bar along with when he would work the door. After a year it looks like you guys are sliding back and regressing as most places do. Looks as if I may have to start going back to the sports bars on Broadway which is too bad. The other experience I had recently involved one of your waitresses who was basically rushing us out the door. She was very pushy on time and the last thing I want to do is be rushed. We also ordered a few appetizers and two were missing when we ordered them an shortly after our entrees were out. No lie probably about 3 minutes after we got our apps. I enjoyed this place for a whole but times are a changing and it looks as if you might not see me again. read more

Been going to local since their opening. Easily over 50 times and never have had a bad experience. Very good food and an outstanding beer selection, domestic (in cans and bottles) . Monthly changing craft tap selection to satisfy most tastes. On the service end, their servers and bartender's are efficient and knowledgeable about their selections which goes a long way in deciding what to eat/drink. read more

Terrible, they ruined a great bar. If you like the Beer Garden, you will like this place. It is loud and people are knocking in to you the entire time (been there twice now). The first time we went we waited two hours and never got served and the bartender was completely rude. The girls room is downstairs and the boys room is upstairs. My fiance and I just moved to southie and we decided to try Local! It was extremely busy for a tuesday night so we had to wait. We didn't mind because we loved their beer selection and happened to sample a few. When we sat down to eat the food blew us away along with the service. We were waited on by a bubbly brunette, I think her name is Lee who kept us laughing throughout our meal. My fiance got the short ribs that were cooked to perfection and I had the char. It was perfect. Job well done. We are so impressed coming from the south end. We will be back soon read more

A must do when in Southie. They have the most eccentric menu - not your typical pizza, burger, wings place. The servers are always cheerful and knowledgeable. Not the best spot for Sunday football, however. They have the TV's, but no game sound. read more

The new owner has done an amazing job renovating interior of the bar/restaurant... It's remarkable how different it is. I went on the first official opening night and was pleased with the new look. The music was too loud for sure but that isn't my biggest complaint... The menu seems to be best suited for the south end, not south Boston. Although we enjoyed our apps because they tasted good, they were far too expensive and not what we were looking to eat when we arrived- serving size was small.. For example the duck legs app was the closest thing to a chicken wing and for two small pieces it was around $13. The shrimp tempura was the same deal- 3 shrimps and some fried veggies for around $13- honestly, if they offered some more neighborhood like foods for the common wallet, it would be way more appealing, even if the duck is left on the menu. There was just not enough to chose from and what was there seemed more designed for the high society ($$$). Hopefully the new ownership will be opened to catering to the local folk and still keep their vision of fresh, creative dishes. Unfortunately, we will not be frequenting the establishment like we had hoped if the menu isn't amended and more casual dishes aren't added :(. I went there tonight with my boyfriend for celebratory drinks and had a great time! We sat at the bar right at the end where the charcutarie station was. We chatted a long time with Patrick, the chef that made and hand picked the menu items. The seared tuna sandwich with the eggplant bacon was delicious. My boyfriend had the pork chop with spaetzle and brussel sprouts, also very good. I don't know why people are complaining about the prices... go any where closer to downtown such as lucky's, sportello, barlow's, etc you will pay around the same price. At least the food is good. The service was great and I think they are falling into their pattern of being busy since they have been open about 3 weeks. I would say if you want to eat with no reservations get there btw 6-7pm. The bar gets busy around 8. For a different pace from the other bars on Broadway Local 149 is a great place to have a good drink and tasty meal! read more

I tried hard to like Local 149 since it's around the corner from my house. There food is passable, and their beer selection is good. However, their service is worse than terrible. I can safely say I've never left a restaurant without eating as many times as I have left Local 149 because of horrible service. (Three times total.) Once, the person I was standing with waiting for a table was called "stupid" by a waitress. Most recently we were told the wait would be "20-25 minutes". After waiting for an hour, and watching friends of the host be seated before us we were finally offered a spot at their horribly uncomfortable "communal table" with one backless stool wedged in front of the door. When we asked why other people who came in after us were seated first the host was rude and patronizing. I wanted to like Local 149 because it's so close to home, but I'd rather trek up Broadway and eat at The Franklin where the food and the service is always good. read more

Beer selection was very solid. Food was very mediocre. Service was worse. The hostess, during a very slow time (early Tuesday evening) was not thrilled we entered, and let us stand there, Perhaps we did not meet the cool factor, as my 83 year old dad was with us? She clearly was not thrilled to have to answer a question my father had about the building. Once seated, we sat there for too long, while the staff lingered around a booth in the back, in training or something. Once the waiter arrived, he was fine, but I was expecting a simple apology. All of this would have been fine, had the food been great, but it was simply average. The chicken waffle entree looked a lot more tasty than it was, as the chicken was a bit dry and the waffle hostess-like sweet. Again, the beer selection was very solid, and had the staff cared we were there, I would have tasted a few more. Overall, the place was trying harder to be cool than to be good. read more

Went there today for dinner. The place had about 10 people in there, we were shown to a high table with uncomfortable high chairs. While the waitress was very nice, she never put in the order for my dinner. I ate from my daughters plate and my grandson refused to eat his pizza. I had a slice of his pizza and understand why he did not want to eat it. I would not go back here for dinner. My daughter and grandson were finished with their meals, when the waitress came over and said "oh! your meal didn't come out?". If you give me about ten minutes I'll bring it out. REALLY???, Every one else was finished eating. My daughter paid 13.00 for clam plate which had 6 clams at best, with a few fries, fried pickles and wilted string beans. We could have gone to Sully's and enjoyed delicious onion rings and fried clams for a lot less. I don't know where the WOW factor would come from, as written in another persons review. because it does not exist. I miss the Farragut House. read more

I know everyone LOVES it here. For me, it's just ok. The beer selection is great and I like the atmosphere but the food needs some major work. One one hand it's nice to find a place that buys local and looks for something different than the irish pub burger but what about those of us that don't eat meat? There is almost nothing on the menu that I can even substitute to make a vegetarian meal (not even the salads....and what vegetarian wants to spend $12-$15 for a subbed no meat salad anyway!). I found this very unfortunate when they opened and was really hoping they would make a change and start thinking about the non-meat eaters (as no other restaurant in Southie has yet to do either), but no. I'm sure my friends and I would go more often but we avoid it because I can't eat there. If you aren't a vegetarian I think you'll really like it, but I hope they start to widen their menu variety! read more
