Fried chicken sandwich and tater tots $18
Joanie L.

Revisited Local 149 for the first time in a decade at least. Very crowded and loud at 7:30 but managed 3 seats at the bar. Competent service from a very busy bartender. We enjoyed our various drinks ($12 ea) and beers (tons of choices) and I thought the fried chicken sandwich was excellent. It was advertised as Nashville hot and there was none of that which I was fine with. Plentiful and excellent tater tots.

It's hard to go wrong with a trendy brunch place in Southie. This place was really good, great service and food, but I felt like it wasn't anything too special. I would definitely go back, but if you're visiting Boston, I recommend checking out other more unique places for brunch. Not pictured was the basic mimosa I got because it's not brunch without a mimosa. The most delicious part of the meal was the mac and cheese balls. They were amazing! I always need to try the place's mac and cheese and I love when the restaurant takes it to the next level, like a mac ball! I thought it was interesting that they served in on marinara sauce, I didn't think it would work well, but it actually did. We also got the breakfast tacos, which were basic and good, can't go wrong with that. And we also go the banana fosters french toast. This was really good, really sweet though so we couldn't finish it. Overall, good basic brunch and good food.

This is the first bad review I've written but I felt compelled because of how bad our food was. Here is a pic of my Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. A paper thin slice of chicken tendons on cold, dry, crumbly bread. A few pickles and a touch of special spicy aioli. Oh, and a small rind of romaine lettuce

Went here after a run around the area and decided to cancel out my whole workout by ordering the Fluffernutter and the chocolate cake. Got a Moscow mule to wash it down. The fluffernutter was heavy but good but the chocolate cake was amazing. The Moscow mule was AMAZING mainly because they make their ginger beer in-house so it's very different and SPICY. The staff was friendly although the interaction was minimal. The dining space is classic bar vibes. Overall would definitely go again for the Moscow mule. GET THE MOSCOW MULE. Overall: Food: 7/10 Drinks: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Price: 8/10

The food and service were good. The chicken sandwich was great and the wings were 10/10. The oysters and octopus were a little disappointing though

A really cute and fun-looking place very close to the water. We sat outside since it was a nice day, and were well distanced from other tables. The food was great! The home fries were amazing-super crispy and well seasoned. The tacos were not too heavy and a great way to start my morning. Only slight issue, recognizing these are hard times, was service was a bit slow. We didn't get water for a while, nor did anyone take our order for a while. This may have been a unique experience since we saw others served more promptly, but just my personal experience that day! A great place to check out, and definitely order something with home fries.

Our one food stop for Massachusetts. We heard about Boston's deep fried Fluffah Nutta and it did not disappoint. The cod was delicious with the yummy Parmesan sauce on top. My two older children loved their burgers (along with 5 options for potatoes - french, sweet, tot, waffle, mashed). Server was EXCELLENT in a friendly and fast way but not overly so. I would love to come back and try their other menu fares. I almost forgot the atmosphere is also entertaining. Okay, bumping it to 5 stars. They deserve it! Dine inside or outside or takeout right now.

Great service for Sunday brunch. Absolutely loved the girl dinner drink! The chicken nachos were a great starter and we both loved our meals. Very filling taking half home for lunch!

Came in on a rainy Friday and the place was jam packed - we immediately put our names in for a table and began huddling near the bar to grab a couple of stools. The place was packed with small groups and dates so knew this was the place to be on a Friday. We ordered a couple of beers and omg they were pricey - I understand that Maine Beer Co could be considered premium and limited in distribution but $10 for less than a pint is just kind of crazy to me.. We ended up waiting over 45 minutes and actually had to go back up to the hostess to remind her that we were waiting - there was a point where we noticed that there were a couple of tables vacant for more than 10 minutes and nobody else waiting for a table, so we were seated in one of those. Service was quick and friendly once we were seated. We had some time to look around and tacos seemed like the way to go so we each got the tacos and they were delish. We also caught a glimpse of someone's tater tot order and we had to get those too..definitely get the tots as an app. Bottom line is that the set up of the restaurant is cool, the beer is cold and the food is good so maybe give it a shot if you've got some time for a drink before dinner.

The first time I went the food and drink was on point, so I returned a week later and ordered the same Boozy Iced Mocha (which I still highly recommend), and the Local 149 Burrito, which was my second choice last time. My friend ordered the breakfast tacos. Both of us were underwhelmed by both of our meals. The saving grace was ordering the Fruity Pebble Waffle Sliders again for brunch dessert, and the espresso martini, which is refreshingly not creamy and is the perfect breakfast coffee drink. I would highly recommend the dishes I tried the first time-- the Eggs Benny and the Waffle Sliders-- as well as the drinks, but now I'm hesitant to return and order anything else off the menu for fear that it will be as disappointing as the burrito and the tacos.

Cute little bar. Went here on a date I had the octopus and chorizo mix that I was skeptical about but turned out to be pretty good. The sweet potato bed really added to the flavor of the octopus. From the time I started this review to now I've been twice. I like their brunch menu a lot! I also happen to be with the said guy mentioned from the first date. We landed here after a long stroll on Castle Island. The place was full on a Sunday afternoon, buzzing with football fans. We were happy to get a corner table. This place has a really cool decor with walls adorning colorful pop art. We tried the regular Fish and Chips. The fish was crunchy on top and soft and warm on the inside. The accompanying fries were decent as well. In all, a really good game snack as always. Hungry and tired, I opted for a burger. This one had Fried Egg, American cheese, Tomato, Grilled Onions, Lettuce and Local Special Sauce. Frankly, even after being too hungry, I couldn't finish this huge burger. But, in all, the burger was quite good. The meat was decently done, the veggies were fresh and the sauce was delicious. This local specialty of theirs was top-notch.

It's a bit tight inside with not much seating and seems like more of a takeaway spot, which is exactly what I did. Staff are nice. The smell of the bacon inside is very enticing. I've been loyal to their Fancy breakfast sandwich which has fried eggs, bacon, cheddar, avocado, (pickled?) red onions, and mayo on toasted bread. While it is not life-changing, I still think it is a very solid breakfast sandwich that is well-balanced. I like the acidity of the red onions and the freshness of the avocado which balances out the oil and fat from the bacon and cheddar. But I would love to try their other popular items like a Mission breakfast burrito, the Crack sandwich, etc!

There's a small park with shaded benches about 2 blocks away (Elliot Norton Park) which is a great place to sit down and devour the food. I ordered the Mission Breakfast Burrito and it was delicious. As of August 2026, the website lists the burrito as $14, but the price on the in-person menu was $16. I would give the burrito 4 out of 5 stars because of the way it was wrapped - about a third of the burrito was just egg and cheese and the toppings (avocado, red onion, hash browns, salsa verde, crema) were crammed on the other side of the burrito. If there was a way for the burrito to be wrapped so all the ingredients were more evenly distributed - this would easily be a 5/5 breakfast burrito. One random detail that stuck out to me was that their drinks in their refrigerator were very cold - no lukewarm sodas here! I would come back here to try their signature "Fancy" sandwich. Overall, this is a very solid breakfast spot in Boston!

I got 99 problems, but brunch ain't one …read more.... I had just finished a long-awaited day in family court, and my best friend Robin came with me for support. Afterward, she treated me to brunch at North Street Grille, and honestly, it was exactly what I needed. When we arrived, there was a line and we were told the wait could be around 45 minutes. Don't let that scare you off. We put our name down, walked around the neighborhood, took some cute pictures of each other and passed the time until Robin received a text letting us know our table was coming up. I'd say we actually waited closer to 20-30 minutes max. As someone who deals with anxiety, I'll admit that when I first saw how busy it was, I was a little nervous about going inside. But once we got settled, that feeling went away. The atmosphere was welcoming, lively and easygoing. There was plenty of conversation and background noise, but funny enough, that was exactly the kind of noise I needed that day. I didn't feel like all eyes were on me. I could just sit down, decompress, enjoy my food and enjoy being with my best friend. And once you're inside, I can completely understand the wait. It's a smaller spot, people are eating, drinking, talking and genuinely enjoying themselves. It doesn't feel like somewhere you want to rush out of and with the food being as good as it was, I understand the line too. Now let's get to the food. That complimentary banana bread? Don't sleep on it. I really enjoyed it. We also had mimosas, which were good and definitely fit the occasion. I ordered the Steak Bomb Omelet with steak, peppers and cheese, along with home fries and toast. Robin had the salmon omelet, and of course I had to taste hers too--it was good! Our waiter was attentive and really nice throughout the meal, which made the experience even better. And speaking of Robin what are the chances I'm sitting there with my best friend Robin, open the menu and see a Robin Special? Shoutout to all the Robins! There were so many other things on the menu that caught my eye that I already know one visit isn't enough. And apparently the restaurant knew when it was time for me to go, because right on cue, I dropped my mimosa glass. I was immediately embarrassed, but shoutout to our waiter because he didn't make a big deal out of it or make me feel uncomfortable. And remember all that background noise I mentioned? For once, I was grateful for it because hardly anybody even noticed. Between coming straight from family court, having my best friend there, the food, the atmosphere and even my little mimosa-glass finale, this brunch ended up being exactly what I needed. Would I come back? Definitely. Next time I'm trying something completely different from the menu, with them delicious-ass banana bread bites.

Maybe some sort of paper between the sandwich and box would be beneficial. The sandwich was a bit bland but maybe it would have been better if eaten in the restaurant. We also had a parfait. The fruit did not look fresh as can be seen on pictures. The yogurt was super sour. Lastly, we had a lox bagel which was pretty good. Service: We went back to use the restroom and while waiting in line, we were asked to wait outside to not be in the way and we would be called in when it was our turn which made sense initially until we realized more people just kept getting up and going to the restroom forming a line. I think the waiter noticed so she told us we could now go in--the line was exactly the same length as when we were asked to go outside. The one thing that really did it for me was the food left in front of the bathroom uncovered. It was the banana bread(?) they give complimentary. Waiters kept passing by to grab some and every single time I cringed horribly. The people waiting in line for the bathroom had to move out the way each time and the waiters wouldn't fully close the lid so it was just exposed. I certainly did not eat the one they gave us complimentary. Ambiance: cozy little shop. It's very very small with alot of tables so very cozy but I really like the vibe it gives. I was super excited as I've seen it recommended on socials and it advertises itself as the best but the multiple hygiene issues I saw, I would not recommend or return.
