We love the Loading Chute. In the small town of Creston, it resonates the vibe of country life. The service has been solid for us even when we visit with bigger groups. They start out with fresh baked bread...warm, soft. Nice way to start. The dinners come with salad/soup, steamed veggies, and your choice of baked potato or mashed. We love getting the filet, prime rib, and ribeye. No frills, just awesome steaks. The filet comes bacon wrapped and for any steak you can always ask for blue cheese or horseradish. If you have space, to finish up with a mud pie. It's yum, but definitely filling. For the price, you get what you expect and well prepared at that. With many restaurants these days, you'll pay $30+ for just the entree and then any sides or salads are an extra $10-$15, but here it's all in one. Also, they have a wood fire oven for pizza, but we're usually set on steak. Lastly, they have a large exterior for large parties and events. read more

Ya I'm gonna be pretty high on the holler about this place. Out in the country of Paso Robles....small town...great charm....and it's the ONLY STEAKHOUSE I recommend to people coming into paso. Family owned and run and the hospitality is unmatched. The bbq smell the quality and the portions are fantastic. Wine corkage is minimal which is fantastic. Wine selection in house is on par. I am afraid to review for this place because its a hidden local fav. so if your from out of town, here is my review for you. This place has to be to worst place I have ever been to, everyone is rude and it took forever to get our food. when we finally got it, it was completely wrong and cold. I had to send my food back 3 times until I finally decided to eat what they gave me. the wait staff never came around to see if we ever needed anything, then it took an hour to get our check when we were done eating. Avoid this place as much as possible. Now for my real review. This has to be the best place for steak in the entire area. The prime rib is ALWAYS perfect every time I order it. The wait staff is the best around, always friendly, helpful, and attentive to our needs. I never have to ask for a refill on our drinks, and they care about their work and the restaurant. If you've had a long day exploring Carrizo Plain and want a great meal, drive west on 58 and northwest on La Panza, to Creston and dinner at The Loading Chute. Others have remarked on the decor; not at all what you'd expect for a steak place out in the country, but rather, clean and modern. We had well-traveled guests with us, and we were all very happy with the service, the drinks, quality of the steaks and salads we had, and quite happy with the bill. The food here is good. It's tri-tip country. If you don't eat beef, this might not be your kind of place. We usually stop in on our way to Paso Robles, and sometimes we have several friends along with us. And that seems to be a problem with the Loading Chute. Their policy is "no split checks" on large groups. Knowing this ahead of time, a group of 11 of us came in for lunch. Eight people sat at one table, while three of us decided to sit alone at another table. When the waitress came to take our order we asked if she wouldn't mind splitting the check to put my wife and I one one and our friend on his own. "No, we don't split checks." "Okay, fine. Just put the three us together and we'll work it out," I said. "Oh no, you three are with that group of eight over there and I'm putting all 11 of you on the same check," says waitress. "What?! We know those people, but we're not eating with them. We'd like a single check just for this table." The waitress insisted on combining our table with their check. We had enough of that got up and left. Ended up having a wonderful lunch in Paso Robles. Unfortunately, the experience will keep us from ever going back. I'm sure the waitress could care less, and that's fine. read more

The Loading Chute has been around forever. I can hardly believe I just got around to telling you all about it! The whole town of Creston is just a click above an ink spot. So don't blink when you come to town or you will miss it! The food is always consistent and good. Mys last trip was an ortega burger and fries, and a few stolen onion rings mooched from my friend. All was cooked perfectly and server promptly and politely and this is the long term top place in Creston. They have a big party area in back for local weddings and bands. I was in Paso Robles recently for a girls' wine tasting weekend & one night we went to the Loading Chute for dinner. It's a rustic, country western cowboy style place with lots of wood, rope, spurs, boots, barrels, etc everywhere & you get served huge, man-sized plates of meat. I'm in. The atmosphere was charming, as was our server. She was so attentive & friendly & kept cracking jokes & making us laugh. The complimentary bread was fresh, hot & amazing. My clam chowder was delicious & so were the garlic mashed potatoes I got with my main course. But all this aside, I would still give this place a five star rating based solely on the prime rib alone. I ordered it medium rare & it was one of the most exquisitely tender, melt in your mouth, insanely delicious pieces of meat I have ever experienced. Hands down. And that creamy horseradish sauce they serve with it... Heaven. Since then, I have seriously considered making that 3 hour drive back up to Paso Robles purely to get the Loading Chute's prime rib again & if you ever happen to be in the area, go there & get it. The Loading Chute is definitely NOT what I was expecting upon my long weekend sojourn to the Central Coast, but it was certainly a pleasant surprise! When I think 'steakhouse,' I think old-fashioned decor, with darker wooden tones, a sort of 'wild west' type theme, with the strength of cocktails as appropriate. The Loading Chute has NONE of the above. But the casual, country-style atmosphere, paired with the INCREDIBLE food and tremendously kind service, just serves to remind us city folk what we are completely missing out on with gems like this one. A well-rounded merlot, four superb cuts of steak (filet for the bestie, prime rib for the bro, porterhouse with blue cheese butter and sauteed mushrooms for the Bono, and ribeye for yours truly), and four outrageously full bellies later, and I realized that we didn't need any of the bells and whistles we'd been expecting. This place gets PACKED (especially during Game 6 of the NBA Western Conf Finals, lol, Go Warriors), so reservations are recommended. Settle in with a great bottle of choice and select pretty much anything from the gigantic menu and you are set! PS. Every. Cut. of Steak. was DIVINE. I should give the Loading Chute more stars for being the best place in the area to catch Covid-19 if this is what you are intending when you dine out or carryout. A crowded restaurant, no additional spacing, and not one staff member wearing a mask in the front or the back of the house. This restaurant was established in the late 1800's and originally served as a general store. After several dusty years, Creston native, Herman Heilman, refurbished it. Locals were not receptive, as they feared the bar would attract tinhorns, hard drinking ruffians and ladies of the evening. It is now a quaint restaurant where the men wore hats and spurs and the BBQ pit was in the middle of the dining room. For the evening, we were the ruffians, ordering several bottles of Wild Horse Chardonnay and Victor Hugo Zinfandel. The Loading Chute is a classic steak house, so I ordered the Ribeye with blue cheese butter. I could cut the meat with my fork and it was flawlessly prepared. Gary started with a giant slice of mud pie. Our new friends were delighted. All dinners come with a salad and soup, potatoes, veggies and homemade bread. It is a giant feast. As we tired each other's meals, shared the wine and broke bread, the uniqueness of this fabulous diner came shining thru. They offer pizza, chicken, ribs and delightful seafood dishes. I especially liked the rosemary pasta with shrimp and scallops, with sun dried tomatoes tossed in a rotelli pasta and served with a rosemary cream sauce. The pork ribs were breathtaking and large, the peppered steak which was a ribeye rolled in cracked pepper and topped with that sautéed red and yellow bell peppers gave my taste buds a thrill. read more

We have been to the "Chute" many times. The location is nice, esspecially if you are going to the Rodeo in mid-September, or tasting the wine in the area. Yesterday we took the extended family (wifes side is staying with us for the holiday), out to lunch here. As usual the staff was welcoming, though the wait can be longer than in the "big" city. The food is awesome, they make a great burger, and the salads are not too bad. We have also been previously for the Sunday buffet (which is every other week), and it is quite the spread. The town itself owns the Chute, so the service tends to be homey. In our case one of the kids plowed through the "kids mac n cheese", and the server brought more at no additional cost (OK, it's mac and cheese - but still appreciated) For ten of us, the bill was just shy of $90, so while I would not say it was cheap, it is good value. read more

Stopped by for lunch. Menu was pretty much what you'd expect early in the day. Burgers, sandwiches, sallads & soup. And one pasta dish- not to forget! We had BBQ Bacon Burger ($8.99) Roast Beef & Cheddar Sandwich (9.99) Bottle of Miller Light ($3) Firestone (draft $4.25) Glass of chardonnay ($5.50). I think for that price you could get a sip more. They use the really, small glasses, big enough to put your contacts in ya know... Everybody was happy witht their food. But then again; burgers and sandwiches- how difficult is that? I look forward to coming back for the evening menu with quite a huge steak selection and also personalized pizzas that are supposed to be very yummy?! Nice little place. Great food every time. Mothers day brunch is always a treat to having an outstanding lunch. One of the best french dips I have ever had, great aju sauce and the role it is served on is soft and not soggy. They make their table bread homemade for dinner. If you're looking for an appetizer the sausage platter is delicious. There house specialty for dinner are baby back ribs and the Prime Rib both worth the drive out. One of my favorite restaurants in the Paso Robles area. The steaks are awesome and deserts fantastic. They are quite fussy about the menus and serving times as we had to wait to order lunch off the lunch menu. I asked to substitute biscuits and gravy for the breakfast potatoes, on another occasion, and received both, which was a bit of a surprise, however, I was not charged any extra. They have really good service and really good food you just can't find in other places. read more

The Loading Chute is chock full of charm. We love dining here when we go to the Central Coast. It is chill, laid back, and has some great food. We were seated quickly, even though it was a busy Friday night. I started with the clam chowder. Whole fresh clams swam through the luscious creamy bowl of soup. The flavor was delicious, not your run-of-the-mill clam chowder. It was clear they had made it in-house. I had the tri-tip with mushrooms for my entree - well cooked and seasoned. Best steak I've found in slo county. Worth the drive to the country I heard about this restaurant through word of mouth in Paso and had to check it out. I know that it is a sin to be in California and not go to In-n-Out for hamburgers, but have been there, done that and was not impressed, so please forgive me for the following review. Spending Christmas on the central coast of California - Paso Robles to be exact. Desiring to take up our search for the perfect hamburger, we chose to visit the Loading Chute in the small community of Creston (8 miles SE of Paso). The Loading Chute is your typical cow/horse/farm country bar and resturaunt - warm and comfortable and filled with genuinely nice people. Surprisingly, they have quite an extensive menu which includes about a half dozen or so burger choices. I went with the Old Fashioned Hamburger with cheese and my wife chose the Bacon Cheeseburger (oddly, it must be a Pendleton, OR kind of thing, but she had to order the BBQ Bacon Burger w/o the BBQ sauce), while my mother-in-law decided on the French Dip. They chose French fries as their side - I went with coleslaw. Must say my burger was great, though the coleslaw was a little disappointing, it believe that to be a matter of taste. Both my wife and m-i-l seemed to relish their choices, so am assuming they liked theirs as much as I did. Five stars for great food, service and affordability. It is straightforward, well prepared and traditional food. The steaks are excellent, and the portions are huge! You will be taking food home with you for sure. Stopped in on Sunday with my son-inlaw. They were having Sunday brunch. The services was good. The food was cold,and nothing to write about the only thing that was hot was my omelette which was made on the spot. Coffee was flowing at a good rate. They were also servicing champagne with the brunch, which wasn't a option for us as we were riding m/c. So $25.00 for COLD food. I gave this place a thumbs down. read more

I always visit this place when I go up to my grandparents place in Creston. It is decent all things considered. The feel of the place is great and it definitely feels like an old saloon. I have been here on many occasions when it was very busy and there was loud music playing and cowboys dancing. I have had their ribs, chicken and bacon wrapped filet mignon. All the meals come with huge portions so you will definitely leave full and happy. There is nothing too fancy or special about any of their dishes, but the BBQ items will hit the spot. I wish we would have said something earlier but by the time the waitress cane back everyone was done with their meals so we just decided to email the owner since we didn't want to wait any longer for them to take it back. An excellent place for a steak in the middle of "cow" country. As many other reviews mention, the Loading Chute is basically the only place in Creston big enough to accommodate more than about 10 people! The restaurant is on the large side. There's a patio (though no one was seated there and it didn't look like it was used for that), a barn out back (where they host dancing!), and two-ish dining rooms inside. It's definitely a steak place, but there's also fish and salads on the menu. Both my husband and I were impressed ... he was more so, but he ordered a steak with blue cheese butter that was amazing. It's not modern, or even particularly 'upscale,' but it is a killer steakhouse with a neat, rural feel to it. I had a great time. read more
