Aji de gallina
Jin S.

I had a good time here. I can with a group. The outdoor seating area is nice and cozy. The vibe is great. The service was very friendly and the food came out fast. I got the aji de gallina and it was great. It was something new and I'm glad I tried it. There is parking, which is a huge plus. Prices are very reasonable. I'd definitely come here again!

short rib

This place is just outstanding! I've always been a fan of Peruvian food and this food is up there with some of the best. We started with an empanada and a few different ceviches. What a great start, the flavors woke up our taste buds. Our main dish was the short rib which was so tender, it melted in our mouth. My husband had two drinks which he thoroughly enjoyed but he especially loved the Chicha Sour. Our service could not have been better and the restaurant itself is just darling. We will definitely be back as they will have live music starting at 6 on Saturdays. Win win!

Albert it was a challenge to find with my crazy GPS, I saw the sign and pulled in right off Cesar Chavez. Now that I know where it's at, it won't be so hard to find next time. Service was quick and our waiter was nice and efficient. The drinks were so tasty and a real taste of Peru. The ceviche was nice and tart and the French foes were so ratty with the cheese sauce. My friends enjoyed the food as well. We'll be back for sure. What a great find on the far east side. The parking lot is big enough to find a spot and it's free. Come get it out for a taste of Peruvian cuisine.

Jalea de Mariscos

This is my first time to try a Peruvian restaurant and I was overall pleased with my experience. It was very nice to be seated quickly without a reservation - really appreciate the accommodation and friendliness of everyone here. Drinks were delicious and great variety. I would steer away from the Jalea de Mariscos, as it all had the same flavor profile and I wanted more variety. The Arroz Chaufa was good but didn't taste very unique from any other regular rice dish. My friends ordered the Pollo a la Brasa. The chicken was very moist and delicious. I think the quarter size is plenty for anyone even if they are very hungry. Someone ordered the half size of this too, and it was just a double serving of the potatoes rather and 'maybe' a little more chicken.

We came to Llama Queen right after the lunch rush and had no problem finding parking. The space is very nice, with great decor and salsa music playing, and we were seated outside which made for a relaxing meal. We ordered the Aji de Gallina and the Short Rib Seco. Both dishes had great flavor, but the rice on each plate was on the dry side. The Short Rib Seco was tasty, but for the price I wished there had been more protein. My husband ordered the Chilcano and it was very refreshing. For dessert, we tried the Lucuma cheesecake. It was a good cheesecake overall, but the lucuma flavor was very faint and the chocolate drizzle overpowered it. The service was excellent and the ambience was lovely, but the food didn't quite meet our expectations. That said, I would give it another try.

As always, Llama Queen is a hit! I love bringing visitors here when they're in town. I always get a pisco sour and a ceviche, and then typically try a mix of things from the menu. Everything is delicious! Highly recommend the ceviche nikkei and the half chicken. Service is always attentive and so friendly. I typically uber here, but there is a free lot with several spots to the side of the restaurant. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Check it out next time you want to go out for dinner!

Lomo saltado was real bland. Had to add salt and sauce to it. Then they automatically add 20% tip to the bill and not knowing that, I tipped on top of that. Wasn't too thrilled about that experience.

Ambiance: 5/5: We grabbed dinner on a Saturday evening. Surprisingly it wasn't really busy, so we got a table outside pretty quick. They had a live band playing which added to the vibe of our experience. Service: 5/5: Our waitress did a great job at checking in and gave good recommendations. Food: 5/5: We ordered the yuca appetizer for the table and it was pretty good. I ordered the ceviche mixto for myself and I really enjoyed it. Will probably order it again next time. Drinks: 5/5: The drinks were ordered were great too.

Salmon Quinoa Salad
Kri A.

The food was so delicious. My favorite plate was the Quinoa Salad with Salmon, it is so filling and healthy that my stomach felt phenomenal after eating here. The salmon was crispy and well seasoned, the broccoli was well roasted, crunchy, and flavorful. The salad and avocado were fresh and blended perfectly with the rest of the plate. - Bonus points if you add the juice from the Leche de Tigre Ceviche on top of the Quinoa Salad, it's soooo delicious. The Ceviche Tasting Platter was phenomenal, the fish tasted fresh, and the juice to food ratio was nice. Out of everything I would come back for the Salmon Quinoa Salad and the Ceviche. If you're thinking about what ceviche you should order: ....literally any of them, they're all going to be really good and fresh. (Pick one & trust your gut) The Lucuma Cheesecake was amazing, super creamy, and I think a really fun food option to pick, if you want to spice up the night. - It's made from Peruvian Lucuma Fruit, Pumpkin, Coffee, Pear, and either Caramel/Chocolate on top; it's definitely a fun and interesting option! The service was great & the ambiance was cozy. Definitely a great place for date night or a small dinner with the fam. The food is definitely on the pricer side, but you get what you paid for; high quality authentic Peruvian Food.

Pa-Llama (paloma)

Previously "Llama Kid," it looks like they're all grown up and now a Llama Queen! LQ is located on the Eastside, and is a mostly-patio restaurant. But don't let that deter you during inclement weather. There's plenty of covered shade and fans for the warmer days; heaters and gas fire pits when the temps drop. They also have colorful pink decor, wood sculptures, art, plants...it's a fun vibe. It was happy hour, so we started with discounted yucca fries and ceviche con leche de tigre. LOVE leche de tigre... I could drink that juice. Being that it was New Year's Day and leche de tigre is a hangover cure-all, I was all over that juice. The piscos were flowin' but I think my fave was the Pa-Llama, a mescal cocktail made with lime juice, grapefruit liquor, grapefruit juice, and soda. For my entree, I ordered lomo la huancaina but subbed the beef for chicken. The sauce wasn't as creamy and rich as other places I'd been to, but I still enjoyed it. But my fave, again, was the leche de tigre.

Shrimp Anticuchos
Lianna T.

As all the reviews say, service is here is kind and attentive. Thank you for directing us to your favorite dishes - and creating an overall lovely atmosphere. The restaurant itself has spacious outdoor seating, beneath hanging lights that is so very nice. A perfect date spot or catching up with friends - it feels relaxed and lovely at the same time. We ordered the ceviche sampler as well as the shrimp anticuchos. The ceviche sampler was a fun appetizer - and we enjoyed each of them, which were different enough from each other, but also complimented one another. The anticuchos were tasty as well - and the highlight was the Peruvian corn it sat atop. We also enjoyed tasting the Peruvian juice drinks. Will definitely want to come back to try some of the other dishes.

Lomo Saltado
Yelyzaveta B.

Lomo saltado is one of my favorite dishes, but this one really disappointed. The sauce itself was tasty but so watery that it lost all the richness and wok flavor lomo saltado is supposed to have.Potatoes: giant cubes with a starchy aftertaste (chances are cook time wasnt enough). I am assuming the intent was to smash the potatoes, so the juice gets inside, but nonetheless. There were three tiny, narrow pieces of tomato. Tomatoes are supposed to add freshness and acidity, but here they were practically nonexistent. The beef tasted above average, but most of it was cut into large chunks that it turned chewy instead of tender. Unfortunately, beef was overcooked. For a perfect lomo saltado, you want it slightly pink inside with the juices sealed in, not cooked all the way through until dry. The whole point of lomo saltado is the harmony between the sauce, the veggies, the potatoes, and the beef. Here, everything felt disconnected

Lomo Saltado
Cam H.

Four stars, mostly for the vibes. The food was a bit hit or miss--Lomo Saltado was decent, and I enjoyed the potato fries. The ceviche was just okay, and the beet salad was way too salty, though the beet pieces themselves were sweet and tasty. Drinks were a highlight, especially the passion fruit and blue corn options for non-alcoholic choices. I really loved the decor--the string lights give it such a cute, cozy feel, perfect for a date night. Parking was fairly easy, and seating is mostly on a covered patio since indoor space is minimal. Service was very slow. Waitress only checked in 2x during the 3 ish hour window we were there. But she was nice.

Is the patio dog friendly? - Actually, I know this is not the case as I stopped by earlier today and was told no dog allowed. But would be good info for others to see on Yelp before arriving at the restaurant. Thanks!!

I was just there and saw dogs on the patio, so they've either changed there rules or it was a fluke night. Call to ask first.

Every single week we are blown away by the flavor, creativity, and care she puts into her cooking. Her meals are so good that we honestly no longer want to eat out. The food she prepares for us at home is consistently better than what we would order at restaurants, and that says everything. Each dish feels intentional, nourishing, and beautifully balanced, with just the right touches to make it feel special without ever being heavy. Every meal has been outstanding, and the consistency is what truly sets her apart. Chef Steph has completely changed the way we eat at home, and we feel incredibly lucky to have found her. If you are considering working with her, do it. You will not be disappointed.

I never thought I'd be able to justify the luxury of a private chef service, but I keep this…read moreservice as a lifeline in my back pocket for weeks that we just need a little extra help, like when the demands of parenting and working during a global pandemic seem extra burdensome. So far, we've had three appointments, and they've all been wonderful. For each one in advance, you choose the time/date for your chef, three entree items and three sides. The "sides" is a bit of a misnomer, as you can often make meals of these in themselves. They include salads, hot breakfast casseroles, pies, and more. Recipes range from Mongolian Beef to Shepherd's Pie, homemade granola bars, Thai Chicken salad, etc. I imagine if we did this weekly, the options might get monotonous, but doing it every once in a while works out well for us so that there are usually a few new options that appear the next time we're ready to book an appointment. For each item you'll see an estimate on how much extra it will add to your bill in groceries in addition to the base chef cost. The chef will stop at your local HEB to shop for your ingredients fresh right before your appointment. You pay a $35 deposit, which you can get refunded if you cancel the appointment by the stated deadline (and they send you frequent reminders -- they're not trying to pull one over). On average with tip and the cost of groceries, we usually spend around $225 for our family of four. The meals last us a while. Sometimes we share them with friends who could use an extra meal, or sometimes we freeze the leftovers. There are instructions for reheating, freezing, etc. As stated in other reviews the chefs are generally efficient and very tidy, leaving your kitchen looking spotless, with a huge amount of prepared food for you to enjoy (it's hard not to dive right in). Communication by text is great. During COVID, the chef has worn a mask during the appointment and the service has had very clearly communication about canceling in the event of COVID exposure, etc. I appreciate that they're taking it seriously. If I had a couple of critiques, it would be that whatever process gets communicated to the chef regarding ingredients might need to be streamlined. The past two appointments, our chef has had to make a couple of grocery store trips because he forgot items, and this prolongs the preparation process. I would also love to see a bit more variety to the menu options. It would be nice to have it broken down roughly by type of dish (seafood, beef, casserole, etc.) and price (budget friendly or special splurge). Other than those minor tweaks, we love the service, and I imagine we'll keep using it as occasional customers.

As a recipient of the prestigious Texas Monthly Top 100 BBQ Award, the expectations were high--and for the most part, they were met. The venue itself provides a fantastic, relaxed vibe, complete with plenty of TVs and a music stage, making it the perfect spot for chilling out on a lazy afternoon or settling in for an evening hang. The Main Event: Pitmaster Excellence The true test of a Texas BBQ joint is the holy trinity, and here, they nailed the fundamentals: * Brisket: This was Texas BBQ as it should be. The brisket was super juicy, delivered a profound, deep flavor, and possessed a flawless, great bark that spoke to hours of skillful smoking * Spare Ribs: A study in contrast and texture. The ribs offered a satisfying "good pull"--firm enough to bite but still falling cleanly off the bone. The thick, peppery bark was beautifully balanced by a slight sweetness from a pepper jelly glaze, adding a layer of sophisticated flavor you don't always find. * Pork Belly Burnt Ends: These were pure decadence. Each bite provided a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth experience with a distinct and welcome hint of Fierce Whiskers bourbon woven into the smoky, fatty flavor. They are so rich and irresistible, you know you shouldn't eat too many, but good luck stopping. * Jalapeño and Cheese Sausage: This locally sourced link brought the heat with a good level of spice. The flavor was excellent, though the texture leaned slightly toward the processed side, which was the only minor drawback among the meats. The Supporting Cast: Sides A great plate of BBQ requires sides that stand up to the meat, and while two of these were stars, one needs a little work. * Mac & Cheese: An absolute winner. It was cheesy, creamy, and featured an excellent smoked flavor that permeated the dish. The slightly charred edges added a delightful textural counterpoint. * Hash Brown Casserole: This was a surprisingly strong contender, offering a nice assembly of savory flavors. The secret weapon was the corn flake topping, providing an unexpected but welcome crunch, complemented by a satisfying hint of bacon. * Creamed Corn: Unfortunately, this side was the weakest link. It tasted primarily bland, despite a slight peppery note. It desperately needs some fresh jalapeños mixed in to cut through the creaminess and add the essential Texas kick. Final Verdict The meat selection here is truly Top 100 worthy, excelling in technique, flavor, and execution (especially the Brisket and Burnt Ends). The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed gathering. While the Creamed Corn missed the mark, the stellar Hash Brown Casserole and Smoked Mac & Cheese prove that their side game is usually strong. Come for the high-quality, authentic Texas barbecue, stay for the great outdoor patio.
