really enjoyed everything about llama queen. The esthetic, the service, the food and the cocktails and the over all vibe! I will say, everything was a bit on the pricy side. Majority of seating is out doors, plenty of shade, fans and misters there were also heaters sitting around when cool weather strikes. Our waitress was kind and knowledgeable about the offerings , she was sure to check in with us through our time here. The arroz mariscos was my favorite dish, topped with the spicy sauce they served separately, I did noticed there was 6 muscle shells but 3 of them were empty. we also had the following: causa limena - it was good I really liked the civiche on top, the chicken salad wasn't too amazing and the potato was intresting, the juice at the bottom was delish! arroz chaufa - this was a fried rice dish , it did have a little cinnamon in it so beware if you don't like cinnamon/ lomo à la hauncaina- I tried the noodles which were a great texture- they sauce it was served in was okay- wasn't crazy about it and I didn't try the meat but heard it was amazing! tacu tacu - pan fried potatoe pattie toooed w onions and cilantro, loved this dipped in the spicy sauce we had on the side! papa andinas -not a favorite, tastes plain with lots of flavorless seasoning dusted on them- they were okay once dipped in the sauces served on the side but the potatoes them self needed salt and maybe another seasoning to make them pop sarza criolla - just a mix a red onions, cilantro and seasonings- a few dishes were already topped with this mixture. 10/10 recommend checking them out ! read more

I am from New York City so my review might be a bit harsh for Austin but the food was pretty average as far as Peruvian food goes. My go-to Peruvian dish is the lomo saltado and I was surprised that the potatoes were *not* french fries. It is typically french fries in other peruvian restaurants. Additionally, they didn't have the typical spicy green sauce that I've come to expect. Instead, they gave me a different green sauce (forgot the name) that did not go with the flavor of the food at all. I will say the chicha morada drink is pretty on point/traditional. Tasted really good. I unfortunately will not be coming back for the lomo saltado. I have not tried their ceviche. Vibes and people are really nice here - the staff are great!! So I do think this is a great spot for a date or for going out but temper your expectations for the food. read more

The flavors are subpar. We tried several dishes. Papa a la huancaina, too dry and salty. Lomo saltado: The rice was straight from a beginner's kitchen, the potatoes are served in big chunks and taste like cardboard, and overall it's not even close to the classic juicy dish, the sauce is thick and barely mixes up with the meat, which at least tasted decently. The chicken: The main villain of the table...terrible, small, dry and lacking flavor completely. Not even close to Peruvian food. Nice place aesthetically speaking, and that's a stretch. read more

Albert it was a challenge to find with my crazy GPS, I saw the sign and pulled in right off Cesar Chavez. Now that I know where it's at, it won't be so hard to find next time. Service was quick and our waiter was nice and efficient. The drinks were so tasty and a real taste of Peru. The ceviche was nice and tart and the French foes were so ratty with the cheese sauce. This place is just outstanding! I've always been a fan of Peruvian food and this food is up there with some of the best. We started with an empanada and a few different ceviches. What a great start, the flavors woke up our taste buds. Our main dish was the short rib which was so tender, it melted in our mouth. They have their specialty nuts on the table for a snacky and it was interesting I highly suggest their skewer plate (beef or chicken) , it comes with their flavorful potatoes and corn. The space is very nice, with great decor and salsa music playing, and we were seated outside which made for a relaxing meal. We ordered the Aji de Gallina and the Short Rib Seco. It was very nice to be seated quickly without a reservation - really appreciate the accommodation and friendliness of everyone here. Drinks were delicious and great variety. I would steer away from the Jalea de Mariscos, as it all had the same flavor profile and I wanted more variety. The Arroz Chaufa was good but didn't taste very unique from any other regular rice dish. My friends ordered the Pollo a la Brasa. The chicken was very moist and delicious. I think the quarter size is plenty for anyone even if they are very hungry. But don't let that deter you during inclement weather. There's plenty of covered shade and fans for the warmer days; heaters and gas fire pits when the temps drop. They also have colorful pink decor, wood sculptures, art, plants...it's a fun vibe. It was happy hour, so we started with discounted yucca fries and ceviche con leche de tigre. LOVE leche de tigre... I could drink that juice. Being that it was New Year's Day and leche de tigre is a hangover cure-all, I was all over that juice. The piscos were flowin' but I think my fave was the Pa-Llama, a mescal cocktail made with lime juice, grapefruit liquor, grapefruit juice, and soda. For my entree, I ordered lomo la huancaina but subbed the beef for chicken. The sauce wasn't as creamy and rich as other places I'd been to, but I still enjoyed it. Lomo saltado is one of my favorite dishes, but this one really disappointed. The sauce itself was tasty but so watery that it lost all the richness and wok flavor lomo saltado is supposed to have.Potatoes: giant cubes with a starchy aftertaste (chances are cook time wasnt enough). I am assuming the intent was to smash the potatoes, so the juice gets inside, but nonetheless. There were three tiny, narrow pieces of tomato. Tomatoes are supposed to add freshness and acidity, but here they were practically nonexistent. The beef tasted above average, but most of it was cut into large chunks that it turned chewy instead of tender. Unfortunately, beef was overcooked. For a perfect lomo saltado, you want it slightly pink inside with the juices sealed in, not cooked all the way through until dry. Llama Queen is a true hidden gem. We started with the ceviche tasting, which included a mix of fresh seafood and crispy fried fish--bright, citrusy, and super refreshing. Wonderful experience at Llama Queen! I had been craving Peruvian food and everything here is authentic & flavorful. The owner is from Peru and the menu reflects a variety of local favorites and ingredients. This is actually the only sit-down spot in Austin I know that offers Peruvian and does it so well! First, the ambiance. How CUTE is this place!! Love all the thoughtful touches, colorful pieces of art, and Peruvian decor. The glossy tables and string lights make for a cozy, elevated outdoor dining experience. It's a beautiful and lively space! Inside you'll find a smaller seating area with a colorful bench, little skylight, and eclectic bar area. Drinks are a must, the cocktails here are fantastic! We definitely wanted to try the traditional pisco sour as well as the chicha sour -- a more tangy version made with chicha morada (or purple corn) -- and it was my first time trying the latter. We LOVED them both but especially the chicha morada! So tasty with foamy egg white and it's a gorgg purple color so that's a plus :) To start, we got the yucas fritas (or cassava fries) and they came with a huancaina-like yellow dipping sauce but cheesier, almost like a queso. The combo was fantastic and the yucas fries were made perfectly! Fluffy inside but crispy on the outside. We also got the ceviche tasting, which is a great choice if you can't decide which one you want or want to try them all. This includes all 3 -- ceviche clasico, nikkei, and mixto. My partner loved the clasico and my favorite was the nikkei! The tangy sauceeeee is just amazing. For our entrees, we got the lomo saltado and pollo a la brasa. The lomo saltado is a classic favorite! The pollo a la brasa is a more simple, roasted chicken dish, but the flavors were all there. The potatoes that came with both were addicting! Neither came with a dipping sauce so we asked our waiter for some and he brought out this orange spicy sauce and a green cilantro sauce that complimented the dish well and were great for dipping the potatoes. Finally, dessert! We got the Lucuma cheesecake and Suspiro a la limeña because they sounded the most interesting. Our waiter described Lucuma as a Peruvian fruit and only after biting into it did I realize I have had it before (or something similar!) It tasted like Sapodilla. While unique, the cheesecake was a little grainier than I prefer. The Suspiro a la limeña was a combination of caramel and condensed milk in a martini glass. While it was pretty sweet, what's not to like! Service was great! Everyone we spoke to was attentive and helpful, knowledgeable of the food and ready to offer suggestions. This is a solid place to meet up for dinner to catch up with a friend or small group. It was cold when I went and there is a small kitchen with a few spots for seating indoors but they do have an area enclosed by plastic with tables and heating lamps so that you can eat your meal comfortably. The service is table side so its pretty much as if you're eating at a restaurant, minus the plastic walls. I bet they're able to be opened when the weather is nice which should provide for a great atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind is that the prices for the dishes are on the pricier side. ($25-$30 per entrée) but I would add that their portion sizes are decent. Depending on your hunger level, you can probably stretch out the food over two meals. Now for the highlight, every single thing that I ate there was delicious. I had the Chicha Morada to drink which had a pleasant, not overly tart or sweet flavor. The Papas Bravas were cut perfectly sized and crispy. They were accompanied with a white aioli sauce that was divine. I asked for extra to take home with my potato leftovers. For my main course, I had the Lomo Saltado which came with beef in a brown sauce, more potatoes and rice. The sauce was to die for. I loved dipping my rice and potatoes in it as I ate the meat. It was a perfect combination. I tried my husband's Lomo with Fetuccini. It had a bit of a spice kick for my tastes (I'm a wimp so if you're into spicy food, you will most likely hardly notice it) and the consistency of the white sauce on the fetuccini was delectably creamy. We met up with a friend who we hadn't seen since before the holidays and had plenty to celebrate so we decided to order a slice of the Lucuma Cheesecake. We didn't know what fruit it was but my goodness, the texture and taste of the cheesecake was absolutely mouthwatering. It was a berry compote on top that complimented the creamy, dense, sweet, rich texture and flavor of the cake and the crust was perfect as well.
