I don't usually leave reviews, but Llama Queen on Cesar Chavez in Austin deserves every bit of 5 stars. From the moment you walk in, the vibe just hits in the best way. It's lively, stylish, and welcoming without being overwhelming. It immediately feels like you picked the right spot. The food... wow. I'm Peruvian, and this honestly brought me back home. The flavors were bold, authentic, and beautifully done. You can tell there's real care behind every dish. Easily some of the best Peruvian food I've had in Texas. The service was just as great, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without hovering. Llama Queen really gets it all atmosphere, food, and service, just amazing. Definitely a spot me and my family will be coming back too.

I had a good time here. I can with a group. The outdoor seating area is nice and cozy. The vibe is great. The service was very friendly and the food came out fast. I got the aji de gallina and it was great. It was something new and I'm glad I tried it. There is parking, which is a huge plus. Prices are very reasonable. I'd definitely come here again!

Albert it was a challenge to find with my crazy GPS, I saw the sign and pulled in right off Cesar Chavez. Now that I know where it's at, it won't be so hard to find next time. Service was quick and our waiter was nice and efficient. The drinks were so tasty and a real taste of Peru. The ceviche was nice and tart and the French foes were so ratty with the cheese sauce. My friends enjoyed the food as well. We'll be back for sure. What a great find on the far east side. The parking lot is big enough to find a spot and it's free. Come get it out for a taste of Peruvian cuisine.

This place is just outstanding! I've always been a fan of Peruvian food and this food is up there with some of the best. We started with an empanada and a few different ceviches. What a great start, the flavors woke up our taste buds. Our main dish was the short rib which was so tender, it melted in our mouth. My husband had two drinks which he thoroughly enjoyed but he especially loved the Chicha Sour. Our service could not have been better and the restaurant itself is just darling. We will definitely be back as they will have live music starting at 6 on Saturdays. Win win!

About the restaurant: Easy to find , plenty of parking , great atmosphere, well decorated , open air seating ( with roof) perfect for a date ( if you don't mind the humidity , but they have ventilators covering the entire area) we started by ordering a Cuzqueña and a chicha morada that was very refreshing.we order 2 empanadas that were delicious even that mine had a bit of fat in it but it was good overall , as main dishes we order 2 lomo saltados montados ( with a fried egg) , the plate looked great , the lomo saltado was great , good portion, and well made . definitely a place to visit and enjoy , the owner Rosa came to introduce herself and tell us her culinary story .Peruvian food at it best , a must visit

We came to Llama Queen right after the lunch rush and had no problem finding parking. The space is very nice, with great decor and salsa music playing, and we were seated outside which made for a relaxing meal. We ordered the Aji de Gallina and the Short Rib Seco. Both dishes had great flavor, but the rice on each plate was on the dry side. The Short Rib Seco was tasty, but for the price I wished there had been more protein. My husband ordered the Chilcano and it was very refreshing. For dessert, we tried the Lucuma cheesecake. It was a good cheesecake overall, but the lucuma flavor was very faint and the chocolate drizzle overpowered it. The service was excellent and the ambience was lovely, but the food didn't quite meet our expectations. That said, I would give it another try.

Jalea de Mariscos

This is my first time to try a Peruvian restaurant and I was overall pleased with my experience. It was very nice to be seated quickly without a reservation - really appreciate the accommodation and friendliness of everyone here. Drinks were delicious and great variety. I would steer away from the Jalea de Mariscos, as it all had the same flavor profile and I wanted more variety. The Arroz Chaufa was good but didn't taste very unique from any other regular rice dish. My friends ordered the Pollo a la Brasa. The chicken was very moist and delicious. I think the quarter size is plenty for anyone even if they are very hungry. Someone ordered the half size of this too, and it was just a double serving of the potatoes rather and 'maybe' a little more chicken.

As always, Llama Queen is a hit! I love bringing visitors here when they're in town. I always get a pisco sour and a ceviche, and then typically try a mix of things from the menu. Everything is delicious! Highly recommend the ceviche nikkei and the half chicken. Service is always attentive and so friendly. I typically uber here, but there is a free lot with several spots to the side of the restaurant. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Check it out next time you want to go out for dinner!

Lomo saltado was real bland. Had to add salt and sauce to it. Then they automatically add 20% tip to the bill and not knowing that, I tipped on top of that. Wasn't too thrilled about that experience.

Ambiance: 5/5: We grabbed dinner on a Saturday evening. Surprisingly it wasn't really busy, so we got a table outside pretty quick. They had a live band playing which added to the vibe of our experience. Service: 5/5: Our waitress did a great job at checking in and gave good recommendations. Food: 5/5: We ordered the yuca appetizer for the table and it was pretty good. I ordered the ceviche mixto for myself and I really enjoyed it. Will probably order it again next time. Drinks: 5/5: The drinks were ordered were great too.

Salmon Quinoa Salad
Kri A.

The food was so delicious. My favorite plate was the Quinoa Salad with Salmon, it is so filling and healthy that my stomach felt phenomenal after eating here. The salmon was crispy and well seasoned, the broccoli was well roasted, crunchy, and flavorful. The salad and avocado were fresh and blended perfectly with the rest of the plate. - Bonus points if you add the juice from the Leche de Tigre Ceviche on top of the Quinoa Salad, it's soooo delicious. The Ceviche Tasting Platter was phenomenal, the fish tasted fresh, and the juice to food ratio was nice. Out of everything I would come back for the Salmon Quinoa Salad and the Ceviche. If you're thinking about what ceviche you should order: ....literally any of them, they're all going to be really good and fresh. (Pick one & trust your gut) The Lucuma Cheesecake was amazing, super creamy, and I think a really fun food option to pick, if you want to spice up the night. - It's made from Peruvian Lucuma Fruit, Pumpkin, Coffee, Pear, and either Caramel/Chocolate on top; it's definitely a fun and interesting option! The service was great & the ambiance was cozy. Definitely a great place for date night or a small dinner with the fam. The food is definitely on the pricer side, but you get what you paid for; high quality authentic Peruvian Food.

Pa-Llama (paloma)

Previously "Llama Kid," it looks like they're all grown up and now a Llama Queen! LQ is located on the Eastside, and is a mostly-patio restaurant. But don't let that deter you during inclement weather. There's plenty of covered shade and fans for the warmer days; heaters and gas fire pits when the temps drop. They also have colorful pink decor, wood sculptures, art, plants...it's a fun vibe. It was happy hour, so we started with discounted yucca fries and ceviche con leche de tigre. LOVE leche de tigre... I could drink that juice. Being that it was New Year's Day and leche de tigre is a hangover cure-all, I was all over that juice. The piscos were flowin' but I think my fave was the Pa-Llama, a mescal cocktail made with lime juice, grapefruit liquor, grapefruit juice, and soda. For my entree, I ordered lomo la huancaina but subbed the beef for chicken. The sauce wasn't as creamy and rich as other places I'd been to, but I still enjoyed it. But my fave, again, was the leche de tigre.

Shrimp Anticuchos
Lianna T.

As all the reviews say, service is here is kind and attentive. Thank you for directing us to your favorite dishes - and creating an overall lovely atmosphere. The restaurant itself has spacious outdoor seating, beneath hanging lights that is so very nice. A perfect date spot or catching up with friends - it feels relaxed and lovely at the same time. We ordered the ceviche sampler as well as the shrimp anticuchos. The ceviche sampler was a fun appetizer - and we enjoyed each of them, which were different enough from each other, but also complimented one another. The anticuchos were tasty as well - and the highlight was the Peruvian corn it sat atop. We also enjoyed tasting the Peruvian juice drinks. Will definitely want to come back to try some of the other dishes.

Is the patio dog friendly? - Actually, I know this is not the case as I stopped by earlier today and was told no dog allowed. But would be good info for others to see on Yelp before arriving at the restaurant. Thanks!!

I was just there and saw dogs on the patio, so they've either changed there rules or it was a fluke night. Call to ask first.

The outdoor tables are covered with blue umbrellas to protect you from the pesky sun. So I walk into Lima with a food blank slate. I was not super hungry, but I wanted something to quench my hunger. I ordered the Aguadito soup (chicken soup with rice and cilantro) and plantains along with a Alfajores cookie (made with dulce de leche). The soup came with chicken on the bone along with fluffy rice, peas and carrots. OMG...this soup was amazing!!! It tasted like something your grandmother would prepare. I am a picky when it comes to plantain (no green, hard plantain for me). The menu stated, "golden, caramelized sweet plantain, fried to perfection). Lima had me caramelized. My ideal plantain is sweet with a crispy edges. Lima's plantains are my new favorite! Don't tell anyone, but I ate them with my hands...like a little kid. The cookie was also baked to perfection...really enjoyed my cookie. When I walked in, I was immediately escorted to a table by a friendly hostess and server. She was quiet-spoken and super nice. Watching the chefs work up close adds so much to the experience and really highlights the care and skill that goes into every dish. We started with the morita shrimp appetizer, then had the short rib special and the half chicken. Every bite was packed with flavor- the food is consistently incredible. What really sets Ember apart, though, is the service. It's consistently warm, attentive, and perfectly timed without ever feeling overbearing. Overall, I…read morethink Ember Kitchen is certainly worth checking out, but I think I might order a little differently next time. First off - parking is convenient in the Seaholm parking garage. My understanding is that Ember will validate, but it wasn't apparent to me how that works and honestly I walked out forgetting it and having to pay the bill for parking - oh well. I came with a party of six and we were celebrating a birthday. The team at Ember was very accommodating. We were seated downstairs in their "Speakeasy" room. It's a bit dark, but cool atmosphere. There are other dining options if you prefer a bit brighter setting. We were served complimentary birthday shots! These were quite tasty - enough so that I ordered another round of those citrus based shooters. Everyone at the table ordered a cocktail. Nearly all the cocktails on the menu are going to be served in a feminine looking glass and with a flower. The cocktail menu is pretty much for the ladies. On the bright side, they have a good selection of bourbons, tequila, etc available for straight pours at a decent price. Not extensive selection, but I think a good choice - enough that I think you will find something to fit your price point and taste profile. Our waitress was top notch. Very attentive and paid close attention to the orders from our gluten sensitive guest ensuring she ordered safely. We ordered a couple small plates as appetizers for the whole table. Everyone loved the crab cake. I thought it was tasty but wasn't expecting whole kernel corn in a crab cake so that threw me off a little. Market seafood crudo - this is a fish appetizer and as the name implies changes based on availability. The night we ate was a Hamachi or Salmon option. The salmon had a bit more of a spicy sauce so we chose that. It was a hit. We also chose a tuna tartare and it was fresh, good but didn't knock our socks off. When ready for the main course - our waitress had a number of off-menu specials to tell us about and honestly many were very interesting options. In fact, we chose to split a 50oz Tomahawk steak. This was a huge steak plated on a hot platter, already sliced off the bone with some fingerling potatoes. This was honestly the most expensive part of the meal (no surprise), but also the least impressive. Now visually it was a spectacle for sure, but the meat certainly had pieces that were tough with some large pieces of fat. Now I don't mind the fat, but when sliced there were a couple pieces that were nothing but fat, other pieces still that were mostly gristle. We all agreed the seasoning was just missing, it seemed to have no seasoning at all. It was also quite charred. One of the claims to fame here is their Josper oven and clearly it can put a good char on a steak. Some in our party liked it, but I thought it was a bit much. There can be fine line between a good steak crust and a burnt crust. I thought it was a bit much, and maybe why the seasoning seemed missing. On the bright side, it was cooked correctly to order. My only problem was, for the price, this was a complete miss. We also ordered scallops and the morida shrimp. Both were excellent. These were probably worth coming back for. The morida shrimp come served in a bowl with a rich sauce that was enjoyed by the whole party. The scallops come pan seared and were cooked perfectly - which is key to enjoying a good scallop. Be aware that the typical order of scallops though comes with only two scallops - rather light even for a single individual, because these were not on the "small plates" menu, it was supposed to be a full entree. Great experience overall, but we just felt not quite worth what we had to pay for it. Overall, it was just over $150 per person. What could have saved it - for that price, the steak HAS to be on point.

The music and the scene inside the restaurant was pure fun! We arrived on a Saturday night with no reservations and only had to wait for about 30 minutes. As soon as we sat down, I knew this would be special! The inside decor is beautiful and our server was so kind and answered all of our questions and helped us order. It was a group of 4 friends so we decided to order several different plates and share everything. We got the coco buns, pepper shrimp, roti, fish rundown, West Indian curry, wild boar pepper pot, coconut rice, and the fried plantains. I can't decide what was my favorite. The roti was perfect and the curry was the best curry I've ever had. If you have a chance to go here- do not pass this up!! Seriously, the best meal in the best city!

There were definitely some issues, but I think that lays more on the restaurant itself rather than the servers. Sure they know the plates name and what is used to make it, but they couldn't tell us what made it a "Guyanese Roti". Was it a bussup shut? Was it dosti? They had no idea. We sent the jerk chicken back so we could get it cut up into some smaller pieces so we could share it, and the kitchen refused. Which was a little annoying, but what was more annoying was that it took them over 10 minutes to just say no. The staff here is not trained to deal with some real deal Trinis who are gonna rib you and ask questions about the food. *Drinks- We enjoyed all the drinks we had! They were all delicious and we liked that they at least used some Caribbean ingredients in them. The beer section is lacking heavily though. To only offer red stripe as the Caribbean beer is very disappointing, especially since Carib and Stag are sold here in the states. The excuse of it being "too expensive" doesn't sit well when I can go to total wine down the road and get it. *Food- The most controversial part of our meal. We ordered quite a bit after being told everything was shareable, but what we found that to not be 100% true. Certain things like the Wild Boar pepper pot were, but the "West Indies" curry was not. Most of the food was sadly not remarkable and didn't have the spice and flavor it should've had. The most disappointing was the curry, it felt more like a Japanese style curry than a West Indies curry. Barely any meat for the 28 dollars you pay, the flavor was just flat with no spice, and whatdeass is the cabbage there for? I don't want to hark too much, because at the end we still enjoyed the food. But do not come here thinking you're going to get the real deal Caribbean cuisine. *Dessert- I guess we wanted a "likkle muore" and ordered desert. We had the flan and tres leches, and both were delicious. If you want a little something sweet, I'd recommend the flan. It was almost a cheesecake texture and the jam it came with complimented that extremely well. Wasn't too sweet and it was a great end to the meal. TLDR; The food is okay, but at this price it's not worth it. It's not true enough to Caribbean food as we would have liked. If they're playing to "local" tastes, they should stop and serve dishes with the spice, seasonings, and strong flavor that is so synonymous with Caribbean food. I wouldn't come back, nor would I recommend it, especially charging $28 for a curry with 4 pieces of meat, 5 potatoes, and 3 pieces of chana. If you do come; get a drink, get the wild boar and roti, get the flan, and maybe grab a shirt that says "jerk your heart out" on your way out.

It's challenging to replicate the same experience locally, as these restaurants lack access to the fresh, local ingredients that define their unique cuisine. Casa Colombia does a good job replicating a true Colombian dining experience. Their menu is extensive with some very interesting offerings. Scanning the dining room, I noticed that their portions are huge. We started with a shrimp cocktail, an empanada, and their version of a rum - mango martini. The small option for the shrimp cocktail was bountiful and easily shared. The housemade cocktail sauce was a perfect accompaniment. The empanada was a tad dry, but their spicy salsa sauce was a great addition. Our "martini" was sweet but very satisfying on a warm afternoon. We did want to try their ceviche, but they are using tilapia as their fish. Quality Seafood is not too far away, and I'm sure that they could offer a better-tasting white fish than plain ole tilapia. We split one of their house specials, the Bandeja Paisa Tipica. This is a traditional Colombian dish, and it is a meat lover's dream served on an oversized platter. Our platter arrived with a chorizo link, beef sirloin, rice, red beans with pork, a huge fried chicharrón, an arepa, a sweet plantain, a slice of avocado (well, there's the only healthy portion), and a fried egg on top. We struggled to eat about 70% of this feast. It's going to take a few visits to the gym to work off this lunch. Dis & Dat: Parking is a breeze as they have their own parking lot.
